Using Corine Land Cover to predict habitats occupied by moose Alces alces. The aim of the study is to assess the possibility of predicting the habitats occupied by moose on the basis of Corine Land Cover. The second aim was to assess whether the impact of the structure of land cover on the population density of moose can change over time with an increase in population numbers. The data for analysis was the number of moose in 293 hunting districts assessed each year in spring in Podlaskie Voivodship. The data covered ten years from 2010 to 2019. The boundaries of each hunting district were compared to the Corine Land Cover layer, and the share of each type of coverage was calculated. The impact of cover types on moose numbers was analyzed in generalized linear models. The moose population showed a distinct increase of population numbers over the last 10 years in the Podlaskie Voivodship. In all the analyzed years, four cover types explained the distribution of moose. The numbers of moose decreased along with the increasing share of arable lands, but was positively related to the presence of inland marshes and share of deciduous forest. In 2010 and 2011, additionally two cover types explained the distribution of moose in the models, similarly in 2019. Obtained results show that the current range of moose in the Podlasie Voivodeship allows the reliable prediction of its numbers on the basis of Corine Land Cover. Impact of some cover types has changed with time.

The real estate cadastre is the primary source of information on land use. It re cords information related to the division of land into types based on the actual way of land use or development. The distinguished types of land use depend on many geographical factors, as well as historical and economic conditions. The study presents a comparison of the detail of land use classification registered in the real estate cadastre in areas functionally related to the urban areas of 9 European countries: Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Spain, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Germany and Poland. The research concerned the determination of the degree to which the classification of land use in urbanized areas is detailed, whether the studied European countries are characterized by the same number of distinguished classes of ob jects at different levels of detail, and what percentage are the distinguished classes of land use objects in urbanized areas in relation to all of the distinguished classes of objects land use at different levels of detail of classification. The study used legal acts regulating land use issues which have been made available in national languages by government institutions.

Opis:
The aim of this research was to present the land cover structure and landscape diversity in the West Polesie Biosphere Reserve. The land cover classification was performed using Object Based Image Analysis in Trimble eCognition Developer 8 software. The retrospective land cover changes analysis in 3 lake catchments (Kleszczów, Moszne, Białe Włodawskie Lakes)was performed on the basis of archival aerial photos taken in 1952, 1971, 1984, 1992, 2007 and one satellite scene from 2003 (IKONOS).On the basis of land cover map structure, Shannon diversity index was estimated with the moving window approach enabled in Fragstats software. The conducted research has shown that the land cover structure of the West Polesie Biosphere Reserve is diverse and can be simply described by selected landscape metrics. The highest level of land cover diversity, as showed by Shannon Diversity Index, was identified in the western part of the West Polesie Biosphere Reserve, which is closely related to the agricultural character of land cover structure in those regions. The examples of three regional retrospective land cover analyses demonstrated that the character of land cover structure has changed dramatically over the last 40 years.

Opis:
The formation of ice cover in winter on rivers, channels and run-of-reservoirs, changes flow characteristics significantly. Calculations of water surface profiles or discharge along a river reach with ice cover by means of 1-D models, requires detailed values of the roughness coefficients of the river bed and underside of the ice cover. Numerous studies dealing with roughness coefficients of the river bed with free surface flow were carried out in the past, however, very few investigations were performed on the determination of the roughness coefficient of the underside of ice cover. Data of calculations indicate that this coefficient may vary considerably with space and time, depending on the character of the ice cover, flow characteristics and meteorological conditions. In 1-D models roughness coefficient of the bed and of the underside of the ice cover must be combined into one composite roughness coefficient. The paper presents determination of roughness coefficient of the underside of ice cover based on velocity distributions in the Vistula River cross-sections with ice cover. It may be assumed that vertical velocity distribution has a logarithmic character in the regions near the bottom and ice cover. Taking into account this assumption the procedure for the calculation of Darcy-Weisbach friction factor f and Manning roughness coefficient n is proposed, basing on the data of velocity measurements in a given vertical. It was found that roughness coefficient of the underside of the ice cover varies in a much larger range than the bottom roughness coefficient and depends very much on the character of the ice cover.

The article deals with the research on the quantitative classification of land use, which directly affects the amount of land use data collected in the real estate cadastre. For the purpose of this article, the cadastral systems of seven European countries – Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, Spain, Lithuania, Germany and Poland – have been examined, taking into account how detailed is the classification in agricultural and forest areas. The research covered the provisions of legal acts applicable in the researched seven European countries and made available in national languages by the government bodies. The article asks the following three questions: 1) whether the researched countries adopted the same approach to isolating classes of items related to agricultural and forest areas; 2) whether the researched countries feature the same number of classes of items recorded at various levels of detail; 3) what is the percentage of the distinguished item classes of land uses in the agricultural and forest areas in relation to all of the distinguished item classes at all the levels of detail. The conducted research can be used as a material supporting works consisting of the modernization of the functioning of land registration in the real estate cadastre in Poland.

The trophic activity of soil mesofauna, especially earthworms (the Lumbricidae family), is a key element in increasing the fertility of agroecosystems. Thee food strategies that earthworms use as part of the trophic networks in soil, and especially their food preferences, are still unknown. Much is known about what is the food substrate of earthworms, but the food preferences of individual species, as well as the possibilities and dynamics of food processing are not fully understood. The aim of the experiment was to observe the amount and dynamics of food uptake by the earthworms of the species Lumbricus terrestris L., which is a common species of soil Oligochaeta in agricultural areas, as well as to propose a new decomposition rate measuring the strength of the earthworm population and its contribution to the mechanism of processing plant organic matter.

The objective of this paper is the assessment of the share of individual land cover categories in centric and ring-shaped evaluation polygons. In the analyses the data from the Corine Land Cover project for 2006 and 2012 were used. These data are available through the Urban Atlas. The basic spatial statistics concerning the land cover categories were determined. As a result of the analyses, information about land cover changes that took place over a period of 6 years was obtained, observed with increasing distance from the assumed reference point. An inference was also made regarding the possibility of determining the changes taking place in selected units in the period of 2006–2012.

Gully erosion is an important form of soil erosion, however, little was done on the effect of gully erosion controlling approaches. A program for controlling gully erosion was carried out in Heshan Farm in black soil region of northeast China from 1994 to 1996 include two approaches: "Soil fill" and "Vegetation cover". From the investigation at 2009, Soil fill approach can protect the original place of gully erosion well, but this apporach ignores the whole impact at the catchment scale, and may cause to new gully appear. "Vegetation cover" approach is better to control gully erosion than "Soil fill" approach, but has little effect on controlling the headcut retreat.

Crop models of simulation are utilised effectively to evaluate the management of irrigation strategies which help in managing the water use. The aim of this study was to verify the validity of the Aquacrop model of maize under the surface and sprinkler irrigation systems, and a cultivation system, borders and furrows, and for two varieties of Maze (Fajr and Drakma) at two different sites in Iraq, i.e. the Babylon and Al-Qadisiyah governorates. The current study conducted an experiment to evaluate the Aquacrop model capacity in simulating canopy cover (CC), biomass (B), dry yield, harvest index (HI), and water productivity (WP). The results of RMSE, R2, MAE, d, NSE, CC, Pe indicated good results and high compatibility between the measured and simulated values. The highest achieved results were identical to the method of sprinkler irrigation due to the decrease in the amount of water consumed and the furrows cultivation method as the aerial roots were covered and the cultivar was Drakma. The highest values for the statistical data were $R^2$ (90 and 96%), RMSE (0.60, 0.73), MAE (0.5, 0.67), d (0.97, 0.97), NSE (0.87, 0.90), for the Babylon and Al-Qadisiyah sites, respectively. As for the CC values, they were very compatible with the values of $R^2$ and ranged between (92–99)%. The prediction error was Pe and minor errors were found. Thus, the Aquacrop model can be used reliably to evaluate the effectiveness of proposed irrigation management strategies for maize.

Przedmiotem badań była ocena sekwestracji węgla, jako popularnego wskaźnika regulacyjnych świadczeń ekosystemowych, przy użyciu dwóch baz pokrycia terenu – Urban Atlas (UA) i Corine Land Cover (CLC). Badania objęły zachodnią strefę miejską i podmiejską Warszawy z fragmentem Kampinoskiego Park Narodowego (gminy Stare Babice, Izabelin, Łomianki i dzielnice Warszawy – Bemowo, Bielany).
