Opis:
The aim of the article was to study regional innovative development through the implementation of projects and programs of subregional smart specialization to strengthen consumption safety. To ensure the conceptual integrity of the study, such methods as theoretical generalization, comparison, dialectics, analysis and systematization, institutional analysis, statistical analysis and the smart specialization approach to innovative regional development were used. As a result of the conducted research, an inextricable relationship was established between consumption safety and regional innovative development. The state, problems and prospects of innovative development and smart specialization are studied on the example of Zaporizhzhya National University one with a number environmental problems and corresponding negative consequences for public health, has significant threats to consumption safety. It was found that the application of a sectoral approach to smart specialization will create conditions to position regional producers and products as resource- and environmentally friendly, which will strengthen competitiveness, increase enterprise income, reduce their environmental impact and raise the quality of life of the region. The importance of sectoral and subregional smart specialization (at the level of united territorial communities, urban areas, rural settlements) to strengthen consumption safety is substantiated.

Opis:
Purpose: For most products, for example, toys, food, cosmetics, there are regulations in European law that define safety requirements. However, each year, several thousand products potentially dangerous for consumers appear on the market. Producers’ organizations, as well as public institutions and consumer organizations are fighting to keep them as few as possible, yet, different market forces play a role here and they are still on the market. Therefore, consumers should be educated and knowledge about such products should be disseminated. Design/methodology/approach: In the research part, the products deemed unsafe in years 2015-2021 were analyzed. Additionally, the 80 latest alerts on dangerous products were also thoroughly analyzed. Data was collected from The European Commission Safety Gate system, The comparative analysis method was used as well as the documentary analysis. Findings: The aim of this article was to identify the main types of risk to consumers, related to the consumption of non-food products. The conducted analysis shows that it is mainly a risk of injury, poisoning, allergic reaction, as well as chocking and suffocation, but the risks vary greatly depending on the product group. It is significant that dangerous products are often intended for children, therefore the conscious attitude of parents is important. Research limitations/implications: It should be taken into account that the situation may change over time, that may be related to new legal norms, to a change in the economic situation on international markets due to new products, to greater awareness of producers, for example. Therefore this type of research should be discussed in a broader context. Practical implications: The analysis shows the need for an alert system against dangerous products. The results indicate that stereotypes about the ‘safe country of origin’ can change; in practice, therefore, consumers need new knowledge about dangerous products which will help them make informed decisions. Up-to-date knowledge is also needed by the sellers - they can make decisions about cooperation with suppliers that will be more favorable to them. Social implications: The awareness of the presence of dangerous products on the market is important for the health of consumers, but it is also important for producers themselves due to the potential damage that can be caused to consumers and the environment.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to develop and test a theoretical model that explains that the impact of consumer perceptions of apparel safety on their consumption behavior is moderated by consumers’ attitude and the price in the relationship studied. A survey questionnaire was developed and conducted first in a pretest by 231 participants to initially identify possible measurement problems. Another 321 potential consumers subsequently filled in the questionnaire on our website, out of which 296 questionnaires were used to verify the validity and reliability by statistical analysis and the structural equation model. The paper identifies a set of apparel safety perception dimensions that do not drive safe consumption practices. It is further seen that price is more likely to moderate the relationship with consumer behaviors than perceptions and attitudes. Therefore, the paper significantly fills the gaps between apparel safety perceptions and apparel safety consumption behavior. The findings of the paper have significant implications for apparel companies who wish to explore the apparel market potential in China.

Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of obesity, alcoholic beverage consumption, unhealthy alcohol use and sudden sleep onset at the wheel among Italian truck drivers. In addition to prevalence rates, this study also aimed at investigating potential predictors for sudden-onset sleepiness and obesity. Material and Methods A sample of truck drivers was extracted from the database of the High Risk Professional Driver Study. Data concerning demographics, anthropometry, medical information and working conditions were collected using anonymous questionnaires. Logistic regression analyses were performed to assess the association of the reported body mass index (BMI), alcohol consumption and sudden sleep onset with working conditions and general lifestyle factors. Results Three hundred and thirty-five questionnaires were collected. According to their BMI, 45% of the participants were overweight and 21.4% of them were obese. Twenty-four point two percent declared they drank alcoholic beverages during working hours or work breaks and 21.3% of the drivers had an Alcohol Use Disorders Identyfication Test Consumption (AUDIT C) score ≥ 5 (the threshold value for unhealthy alcohol use). Forty-one point six percent of the interviewees experienced one episode of sudden sleep onset at the wheel per month (5.5% per week and 0.9% daily). Predictive factors for obesity were: length of service (odds ratio (OR) = 1.09, confidence interval (95% CI): 1.04–1.15, p < 0.001) and the AUDIT C total score (OR = 1.34, 95% CI: 1.08–1.66, p = 0.008). Predictive factors for sudden-onset sleepiness at the wheel were: age > 55 years old (OR = 5.22, 95% CI: 1.29–21.1, p = 0.020), driving more than 50 000 km per year (OR = 2.89, 95% CI: 1.37–6.11, p = 0.006) and the Chalder Fatigue Questionnaire (CFQ) score > 11 (adjusted OR = 2.97, 95% CI: 1.22–7.21, p = 0.016). Conclusions This study strongly emphasizes the need for intervention in order to reduce and prevent important risk factors for the sake of road safety and truck drivers’ health.

Opis:
The objects of the study are parallel-structure machine systems with redundancy associated with safety assurance of continuous material flow. The problem concerns systems in which the supply of materials takes place continuously (24 hours a day), and the system of operated machines must ensure the receipt and movement of the material at a strictly defined time and in the desired quantity. It is a system where the presence of a failure poses a threat to human life and environmental degradation. This paper presents a method for system condition assessment and upgrading for maintaining proper operation under conditions of continuous operation. A database of information about the current parameters of the system components (measurements, monitoring) is necessary for condition assessment. The method also uses lean techniques (including TPM). System evaluation and selection criteria for a suitable structure in terms of further operation were proposed. Exemplification was performed for an underground mine drainage system. As a part of the identification, selected parameters of the system components were measured, and their characteristics (motors, pumps, pipelines) were developed. The results of the analysis and the values of the adopted criteria were compared to the indicators for new pump sets. A two-option system upgrade was proposed, in addition to machine operating schedules, maintenance periods, and overhaul cycles.

Opis:
Technological development in the aviation business is usually dictated by diverse safety, economic, environmental, and social goals set by governments, regulatory agencies, and the market. Recently, a rapidly increasing interest in making air transportation climate neutral has been observed. The objective of this study is to analyze the historical trends of aircraft engine fuel efficiency, identify parameters affecting engine efficiency and initiate a discussion about future technology development needed to meet the expectations. The commercial turbofan engines test data comparison is provided in this study, followed by a theoretical assessment. The presented test data trends show a clear correlation between specific fuel consumption decrease and engine parameters like bypass ratio and overall pressure ratio increase, which is confirmed by theoretical assessment. Based on performed analysis results, a bypass ratio increase was indicated as the one potential path to reduce aircraft engine fuel consumption. Bypass ratio improvement could be achieved by fan diameter increase and rotation speed reduction in the case of turbofan engine architecture. A larger fan rotor requires a high torque drive and significantly increases engine weight which could be compensated by the lightweight design of the engine components, e.g., by applying composite materials.
