Ride comfort has always been considered to be essentialfor vehicle development. Nowadays it is one of aspects of wehicle industry that is getting more and more important. Disturbances in vehicle motion, for example drive across an obstacle or drive of a rail vehicle across the transition curve may be the reason for ride comfort disturbances. These excitation values may define the subjective negative comfort assessment by a passenger or a driver. Sudden changes of acceleration with low frequencies are particularly perceptible. That is why the attempts of evaluation of these disturbances are included in standards as PCT and PDE indexes for rail vehicles. In order to designate these indexes filtration of the recorded lateral acceleration runs is done. The values of changes of lateral acceleration, of lateral jerk and roll rate in time intervals are defined. This kind of analysis in which only the amplitudes of values measured were taken into account and in which 2 Hz filter was used may cause discrepancy between subjective assessment and evaluated level of vibration. Wavelet transform that is the tool of time-frequency analysis makes non-stationary signals such as acceleration signals in case of comfort disturbances possible. The problem of evaluation of vibration level that is basedon wavelet transform analysis appears. In order to evaluate this vibration level algorithm of matching pursuit MP may be used to match the mother wavelet to the recorded signal in the best way possible. The article presents an attempt of matching pursuit algorithm with Gabor dictionary for evaluation of the discomfort level that was based on the run recorded in the tram.

Purpose: This descriptive study was planned to investigate the comfort levels of women with urinary incontinence. Materials and methods: The study comprised 219 women with a complaint of urinary incontinence admitted to the outpatient clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of a university hospital between June – December 2015. The Sociodemographic Characteristics Questionnaire, Urinary Incontinence & Frequency Comfort Questionnaire (UIFCQ), and International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Short Form (ICIQ-SF) were used. Results: The study results demonstrated that the mean score the participants obtained from the UIFCQ was 4.20 ± 0.74 and that their comfort levels were moderate. Their mean score for the ICIQ-SF was 10.41± 4.98, and urinary incontinence adversely affected their quality of life in 74% of them. While the mean UIFCQ scores were KW = 48.673, p=0.00 for the frequency of urinary incontinence, t=2.33, p=0.02 for receiving treatment, KW = 58.267, p = 0.00 for the amount of urinary leakage, KW=26.37, p=0.00 for the educational attainment, t=7.04, p=0.03 for the number of births, the mean ICIQ-SF scores were KW = 13.74, p =0.00 for the educational attainment and t = 24.02, p=0.00 for the number of births (p <0.05). Conclusions: It was determined that the comfort level of the participants with urinary incontinence was moderate, that urinary incontinence affected the quality of life and that as their comfort level increased, so did their quality of life.

The paper presents the anthropodynamic dummy constructed at the Department of Automotive Vehicles and Transportation of the Kielce University of Technology, Kielce, Poland. The dummy is shown at the concept and design stages, and as a final construction. The first part of the study presents structural and dynamic requirements, and also the structure and construction selected for the dummy. The vertical dynamics of the body of a seated human is accounted for by conducting detailed analysis of the variation range of mass parameters and of the dummy elastic and damping parameters. The second part of the study presents the results of experimental simulations performed for the dummy.

In order to improve the efficiency and accuracy of predicting the thermal and moisture comfort of skin-tight clothing (also called skin-tight underwear), principal component analysis (PCA) is used to reduce the dimensions of related variables and eliminate the multicollinearity relationship among variables. Then, the optimized variables are used as the input parameters of the coupled intelligent model of the genetic algorithm (GA) and back propagation (BP) neural network, and the thermal and moisture comfort of different tights (tight tops and tight trousers) under different sports conditions is analysed. At the same time, in order to verify the superiority of the genetic algorithm and BP neural network intelligent model, the prediction results of GA-BP, PCA-BP and BP are compared with this model. The results show that principal component analysis (PCA) improves the accuracy and adaptability of the GA-BP neural network in predicting thermal and humidity comfort. The forecasting effect of the PCA-GA-BP neural network is obviously better than that of the GA-BP, PCA-BP, BP model, which can accurately predict the thermal and moisture comfort of tight-fitting sportswear. The model has better forecasting accuracy and a simpler structure.

The thermal resistance of fabrics containing silk showed a higher value in comparison with lyocell-rich blends. The water vapour permeability, absorbency and wickability of lyocell and lyocell-rich blends were found to be superior as compared to 100% silk fabrics. With respect to aesthetic comfort properties, the drape of the lyocell rich fabrics was good in comparison with 100% silk fabrics.
W badaniu stwierdzono, że tkaniny zawierające jedwab mają wyższą wartość oporu cieplnego w porównaniu z mieszankami bogatymi w Lyocell. Stwierdzono również, że przepuszczalność pary wodnej, nasiąkliwość i podatność na skręcanie Lyocell i mieszanek bogatych w Lyocell były lepsze w porównaniu ze 100% tkaninami jedwabnymi. Pod względem komfortu estetycznego, tkanin bogatych w Lyocell wypadły lepiej, w porównaniu z tkaninami 100% jedwabnymi.

In order to increase the child's safety when traveling in a passenger car, special child seats are used to minimize the child's injuries in a car accident. The aim of the article is to discuss the topic of design solutions for child seats. It should be noted that child seats are built in order to increase the safety of the transported child during a car accident. Child seats are crash-tested. Unfortunately, no tests related to vibration comfort are carried out. Undoubtedly, attention should be paid to the vertical vibrations that penetrate from the road surface, through the structure of the passenger car, to the seat of the child seat. Vibration comfort is particularly important in the case of long journeys. Because the current child seats on the market are adjusted only to the mass and age of the child. Choosing the right car seat is not a simple task. Not every child will feel comfortable in a seat adapted only to mass and age. The anthropometric dimensions of the child are of great importance. Therefore, more and more child seats are created that allow you to change the position of the backrest or seat in such a way as to ensure both the safety and comfort of the child during the journey.

This paper focuses on an attempt of an employment of a continuous wavelet transform as a tool of time-frequency analysis to identify and asses the comfort on discrete events. A short review of practical procedures for predicting vibration discomfort defined by ISO 2631-5 and BS 6041, ENV 12299 is enclosed. The results of research of tram temporary comfort disturbances are also described in the paper. The research enclosed the comfort on curve transitions and comfort on discrete events. Research was carried out in the old city centre as in this area there are a lot of curves and large number of excitations can be expected. An exemplary analysis of tram comfort using a continuous wavelet transform is presented. The signals in time intervals in which PCr and PDE indexes that have high values are analyzed. Moreover, the evaluation of comfort disturbances using wavelet transform based on Morlet mother wavelet is done. The continuous wavelet transform that was employed proves high usefulness of this method for assessment of temporary comfort disturbances. The results of Fourier transform of the signals measured are also presented in this article. Traditional methods based on the vibration dose value and frequency weighting methodsfor assessment of these vibrations are less useful in respect to non-stationary character of temporary disturbances.

Opis:
Transmission of sensible and insensible perspiration is an important factor for fabric comfort. Improvement in the thermal comfort properties of knitted fabrics results in the achievement of fabric comfort. In this research, the thermal comfort properties of six bi-layer knitted fabrics were studied. The bi-layer knitted fabrics were made with different combinations of yarn in the inner layer and outer layer. The yarn combinations selected were polyester staple yarn-polyester staple yarn, polyester staple yarn-cotton, cotton-cotton, polypropylene-cotton, micro denier polyester-cotton, and micro denier polyester- micro denier polyester for the inner and outer layers, respectively. To find the thermal comfort properties of the six bi-layer knitted fabrics, an objective fabric test was carried out. The results showed that the bi-layer fabrics made from micro denier polyester, both in the inner and outer layers, exhibit better thermal comfort properties, thereby providing a higher level of comfort; hence, they are preferred for active sportswear. The water vapour permeability, air permeability, thermal resistance and thermal conductivity of the bi-layer knitted fabric made up of micro denier polyester as the outer and inner layer were found to be higher when compared to the other bi-layer structures. The results were discussed together with one – way ANOVA test results at a 0.05 significance level.
Przenoszenie wyczuwalnego i niewyczuwalnego potu jest ważnym czynnikiem zapewniającym komfort użytkowania wyrobu. Poprawa właściwości komfortu termicznego dzianin skutkuje uzyskaniem komfortu użytkowania wyrobu. W pracy zbadano właściwości komfortu termicznego sześciu dwuwarstwowych dzianin. Dzianiny dwuwarstwowe zostały wykonane z różnych kombinacji przędzy w warstwie wewnętrznej i zewnętrznej. Wybrane kombinacje przędzy to: przędza cięta poliestrowo-poliestrowa, przędza odcinkowa poliestrowo-bawełniana, bawełniano-bawełniana, polipropylenowo-bawełniana, mikro denierowy poliester-bawełna i mikro denierowy poliester-poliester odpowiednio dla warstwy wewnętrznej i zewnętrznej. Aby określić właściwości komfortu termicznego sześciu dwuwarstwowych dzianin, przeprowadzono obiektywne testy wyrobów. Wyniki pokazały, że dwuwarstwowe dzianiny wykonane z poliestru mikro denierowego, zarówno w warstwie wewnętrznej, jak i zewnętrznej, wykazują lepsze właściwości komfortu termicznego, zapewniając w ten sposób wyższy poziom komfortu; dlatego są preferowane w produkcji aktywnej odzieży sportowej. Stwierdzono, że przepuszczalność pary wodnej, przepuszczalność powietrza, opór cieplny i przewodność cieplna dzianiny dwuwarstwowej wykonanej z poliestru mikro denierowego jako warstwy zewnętrznej i wewnętrznej są wyższe w porównaniu z innymi strukturami dwuwarstwowymi. Wyniki przeanalizowano za pomoca testu ANOVA na poziomie istotności 0,05.

The dynamic development of built-up areas observed in the last few decades resulted in strong environmental transformations, especially in terms of climate phenomena. One of the factors which significantly affects the climate and bioclimate of urban areas is wind. Wind can cause discomfort to pedestrians or heat loss in buildings, if the wind speed around buildings is too high. The paper presents two examples of research conducted by the author, related to the issues of wind flow in built-up areas, based on the numerical simulations. The numerical simulations become an increasingly frequently used tool to determine the wind climate. Simulation results provide designers with important information on the influence of the buildings and their layout on the local changes in airflow. They allow testing of alternative solutions and effectiveness of various remedial measures.

The paper analyses thermal sensations, preferences and acceptability as well as humidity sensations of students in the intelligent building "Energis" of the Kielce University of Technology (Poland). The tests were performed in 8 lecture rooms, during which the volunteers filled in the anonymous questionnaires (with 3 to 7 possible answers for each question) and – simultaneously – physical air parameters were measured with Testo 400 microclimate meter. The study aimed to determine if the intelligent building provides proper indoor environment conditions during the heating season and to assess the accuracy of the standard methodology for thermal comfort determination. Experimental analysis of thermal and humidity sensations revealed that a share of the respondents critically assessed the indoor environment: 17% regarding temperature and 30% regarding humidity. Moreover, the standard methodology for thermal comfort calculations proved overwhelmingly inaccurate compared to the experimental data (with the results for 6 rooms being beyond the 50% error range). Since smart buildings are still not very common in Central Europe, the experimental data obtained in the study can be valuable both from the scientific but also practical point of view – providing useful data for building engineers and designers.

The paper discusses the mathematical model of thermal comfort in the hyperbaric facility. Based on human thermal balance and thermal comfort conditions the comfort equation for the hyperbaric environment was derived. The comfort equation enables to calculate all those combinations of the diver’s activity, clothing (thermal insulation, moisture permeation factor) and environmental variables (temperature, pressure, composition, relative humidity and velocity of the breathing gas and mean radiant temperature), which would create thermal comfort in the hyperbaric environment. The paper presents also the solution of thermal comfort equation for dives up to the depth of g = 590 m, with helium-oxygen and hydrogen-oxygen breathing mixture, as well as the comfort diagrams.

Recent investigations show that active noise control methods can improve noise reduction capabilities of aircraft-type windows in the low-frequency region. Being a privileged path for external noise transmission and one of the main causes of high interior noise levels in a treated aircraft, a proper design of the aircraft window can significantly contribute to the reduction of cabin noise levels with a minimum impact on the aircraft mass and performances. This is the first part of two companion papers. In this paper (Part 1), the vibro-acoustic design of a triple-pane aircraft-type window prototype is presented. Numerical and experimental activities addressing the structural dynamics and the actuation performances are described in detail. The effectiveness of the piezo-stack actuators in the excitation of the flexural bending modes of the structure by means of adaptive in-plane and eccentric dynamic forces is experimentally investigated. An experimental modal analysis is carried out to determine both single partition and coupled fluid-structure modal frequencies used to validate the finite element model. For the purpose of estimating the sound radiation characteristics of the window prototype, a numerical procedure coupling boundary and finite element methods will be detailed in the second part of this paper (Part 2) to solve the coupled acoustic-structure problem in the exterior acoustic domain.
Ostatnio przeprowadzone badania pokazały, że skuteczność aktywnych metod redukcji hałasu stosowanych w oknach montowanych w samolotach można podnieść w zakresie niskich częstości. Wobec szczególnie korzystnych warunków transmisji zewnętrznego hałasu w samolocie i jego wysokiego poziomu, odpowiedni projekt okna lotniczego może znacząco przyczynić się do ograniczenia hałasu w kabinie, przy minimalnej ingerencji w masę i osiągi samolotu. Prezentowany artykuł stanowi pierwszą część podwójnej publikacji na omawiany temat. W tej części opisano projekt profilu wibroakustycznego prototypu trójszybowego okna lotniczego. Bardzo szczegółowo przedstawiono numeryczne i doświadczalne aspekty badań mających na celu określenie dynamiki układu oraz wydolności aktywnego sterowania. Stosując adaptacyjny, płaski i mimośrodowy układ przykładanych sił, przeprowadzono badania eksperymentalne nad skutecznością piezoelektrycznych elementów wykonawczych w tłumieniu giętych postaci drgań okna. Dla weryfikacji modelu elementów skończonych dokonano także doświadczalnej analizy modalnej, co pozwoliło na wyznaczenie częstości własnych pojedynczej struktury oraz układu ze sprzężeniem poprzez oddziaływanie z płynem.Wczęści drugiej oszacowane zostaną charakterystyki radiacji dźwięku w prototypie okna. W tym celu użyta będzie procedura łącząca metodę elementów brzegowych i skończonych, która umożliwi rozwiązanie sprzężonego, akustyczno-strukturalnego problemu emisji hałasu w zewnętrznym obszarze akustycznym.

Over recent years, cycling has emerged as a particularly desirable mode of transport in Europe. Many local authorities, together with cycling lobbyist and advocating groups strive to get cycling to an accepted level of urban mobility. Certain movements have already introduced the citizens’ science approach aimed at improving the local conditions for cyclists with crowd-sourced data collection. With this in mind, this paper presents an entry-level analysis of vibration from various surfaces which might affect the comfort of cyclists in the city of Žilina. The emphasis is placed on the analysis of the road surface with a smartphone application and a so-called instrumental or a probe bicycle. The results of testing are presented in the context of the problematic issues that occur in the infrastructure. The results are aimed at drawing attention to the fact that not all infrastructure is properly built, designed or maintained. There is a relationship between properly planned and built cycling infrastructure and the cycling traffic. An Android smartphone with the Phyphox application was used in the analysis as an example of citizen’s science.

Opis:
The microclimate parameters, such as temperature and air velocity, have a large influence on the sensations, as well as on the effectiveness of the student learning. Therefore, the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems are designed to provide such parameters of the internal environment, which will guarantee thermal comfort for people staying in classrooms. The analysis of selected air parameters was realized based on the two rooms located in the building of Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering at Lodz University of Technology. For this purpose, the DesignBuilder program was used to obtain the temperature and air velocity distributions in the students presence zone.
