Article deals with the field of machinery, namely with the protecting of devices for mechanical driving systems. New construction of safety-overrunning clutch, operating on gearing principle, where safety and overrunning parts are mutually integrated, has been proposed and studied in the article. It has practical importance for building, based on modular principles, machines. As the result of the theoretic studies, the expressions to calculate the following specific clutch torques have been obtained: rating torque, torques of beginning and ending of operation. On the basis of the mentioned studies, the expressions to estimate the clutch main operation characteristics have been obtained - nominal torque exceeding coefficient, accuracy and sensitivity coefficients. These expressions are practically important for proposed clutch calculations. The analysis performed demonstrates that in order to increase the clutch load capacity, the grooves must be made with less inclination angles to clutch axis. Obtained results indicate the advisability of installing the clutch on low-speed shafts. It is shown that the clutch overload sensitivity could be increased by the reduction of the spring rigidity. The calculations performed also demonstrate that balls diameter reduction has a positive effect on the clutch operation parameters. Obtained expressions and numerical results are practically important for proposed clutch calculations. It is shown that in terms of the accuracy of operation, the studied coupling fully corresponds to the level of common and investigated designs of safety clutches.

The aim of this study is to develop an analytical model to determine temperature and thermal stresses distributions in a single plate clutch during the slipping phase. Proposed expressions enable calculation of temperature and thermal stresses on the contact surface as well as at any depth inside the friction material and at any instant during the slipping period. It was investigated how the maximum temperature on the friction surface varies with the thickness of the friction facings of the clutch disc and the intensity of convective cooling.

Article deals with safety-overrunning clutches for mechanical transmissions. Modern design of safetyoverrunning clutch with grooves sides inclined to semi-coupling radius has been described and researched in the article. It has practical value for creation modular-type machines. On the basis of the theoretic studies, the expressions for obtaining the main specific operation parameters have been proposed: rating torque, beginning and ending operation torques. As the result of the studies, the equations for estimation the clutch main operation characteristics have been received - rating torque exceeding coefficient, coefficients of clutch accuracy and sensitivity. On account of modeling and comparison with clutch where grooves sides are parallel to the radius made a number of important conclusions. The analysis performed demonstrates that clutches with inclined to radius grooves sides in general have higher operation characteristics compared with clutches with parallel to radius grooves sides, particularly higher accuracy coefficient and lower rating torque exceeding coefficient. Obtained results make it possible to recommend for highly loaded large-mass systems clutches with low values of grooves to clutch axe and grooves sides to radius inclination angles, because it provides balls contact with plane sides grooves surfaces and through this allows to decrease contact stresses compared with clutches with grooves sides parallel to radius; allows to provide high load capacity with low rating torque exceeding in overload mode; in clutches with inclined to radius grooves sides friction impact manifests less in operation with high rotation frequency.

The study was conducted at Akpehe poultry farm, Makurdi. The objectives of the study were to assess the additive genetic effects of dam-sire, dam and maternal effects on clutch traits with the aim to apply these to selection and breeding in order to improve these traits.120 birds were used for the study, 60 each for the Fulani and the Tiv ecotypes. The birds were housed singly in identified cages and hand mated in the pen. Data were collected on clutch size, clutch number, pause length and number, month, sire, dam and ecotype. Ecotype significantly affected clutch size and clutch number. Pause length and number were not affected by ecotype. The additive genetic effect of the sire and dam significantly affected clutch size and clutch number. Heritability estimates due to sire on pulse length and pulse number were very low, while the heritability estimates for clutch number and clutch size were moderate. Non additive genetic effect of the dam ,other maternal environment as well as month significantly affected clutch number, pause length and number. Selecting superior birds based on clutch size and number due moderate heritability estimates will lead to genetic improvement in egg number especially when dam conditions and management employed are improved.

The current trend in foundries is to achieve the production of high quality and competitive cast components. The innovation and optimization of current processes is a necessary element to achieve this goal. With the help of numerical simulations, it is possible to replace financially demanding and time-consuming experiments in real conditions with simulations that can reliably represent foundry process using computer technology. By a detailed analysis of the simulation results, we can predict various risks that could negatively affect the production process. This article monitors the influence of changes in the design of the gating system on the surface quality of a clutch wheel casting made of ductile iron, in the production of which two models of the gating system for casting were constructed in CAD software. Verification of gating systems was performed using the simulation software NovaFlow & Solid. The aim of the design change of the gating system is to reduce the amount of liquid metal used per casting, which can have a significant economic impact on industrial production. For this purpose, several simulations of the gating system of the casting were performed, while 2 which are the most representative for the mentioned problem were selected for the needs of the article. The main task of the simulation was to set the cellular network and conditions as close as possible to the reality of casting and the subsequent design and modification of the gating system.

The article describes the results of experimental research concerning a prototypical hydrodynamic clutch controlled via changes in flow rates of the working fluid. The aim of the research was to collect experimental data to confirm the practical possibility of using such a control method of the hydrodynamic clutch and to compare this with other currently used methods. A change in flow rate of the working fluid was obtained by increasing the distance between rotors. The experimental research was conducted on a test rig built specifically for this purpose. On the basis of the research, the influence of the clutch filling level, the direction of rotation and the temperature of the working fluid on the clutch torque were determined. The experimental research shows that the transferred torque is significantly influenced by the width of the gap between rotors, the rotational speed of the input shaft, the clutch filling degree and the temperature of the working fluid. Thus, these values may be used to control the torque transferred by the hydrodynamic clutch. The temperature of the working fluid is not recommended as a control value due to the fact that it is dependent on the working conditions of the hydrodynamic clutch. On the basis of the test results, it was proven that hydrodynamic clutches controlled by increasing the distance between rotors can be successfully used, for example, in drive systems of wind farms.

At our department we pay attention in the long term to the pneumatic flexible shaft couplings – their development, research and application to the torsionally oscillating mechanical systems (TOMS). Their main advantage is, that gaseous medium pressure change in their compression space causes a change of the dynamic torsional stiffness and thereby the natural frequency of the mechanical system. This fact we use by tuning of mechanical systems, especially during its operation and therefore is necessary to know the character of the transitional effects at pressure changes in the coupling. This paper deals with presentation and evaluation of measured processes of transitional effects at rapid and slow air pressure changes in pneumatic coupling, applied in specific TOMS.
Od dłuższego czasu, na naszym Wydziale szczególnie skupiamy się na elastycznych sprzęgłach pneumatycznych – interesuje nas ich rozwój, badania z nimi związane oraz ich zastosowanie w drgających skrętnie systemach mechanicznych (TOMS). Ich podstawową zaletą jest fakt, iż zmiana ciśnienia czynnika gazowego w przestrzeni kompresji powoduje zmianę dynamicznej sztywności skrętnej i w rezultacie zmianę częstotliwości własnej systemu mechanicznego. Fakt ten jest wykorzystywany w tuningu systemów mechanicznych, szczególnie podczas pracy urządzenia, a zatem istotna jest wiedza dotyczaca charakteru efektów przejściowych przy zmianach ciśnienia w sprzęgle. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi prezentację i ocenę zmierzonych procesów efektów przejęciowych w przypadku szybkiej i wolnej zmiany cięnienia powietrza w pneumatycznym sprzęgle, zastosowanym szczególnie w TOMS.

Within the complex dynamic systems such as power drive every part becomes a potential vibration driver with negative impact on the environment, maintenance and useful life of the mechanical systems. In addition, the purpose of this paper is to show the application of a new type of the flexible shaft coupling – pneumatic flexible shaft coupling – with the main aim to examine the impact of the given coupling on the magnitude of the torsional vibration and, practically, its consequent vibration in the mechanical drive system.
W skomplikowanych systemach dynamicznych takich jak napęd zasilający każda część jest potencjalnym nośnikiem wibracji mającym negatywny wpływ na środowisko, utrzymanie i żywotność danego systemu mechanicznego. Celem niniejszej pracy jest pokazanie zastosowania nowego typu elastycznego sprzęgła na poziomie drgań skrętnych oraz pokazanie w praktyce wibracji bedących konsekwencją drgań w mechanicznym systemie napędowym.

The article presents experimental and theoretical studies concerning the possibility of using a controlled hydrodynamic clutch in a wind power plant’s drive system. The hydrodynamic clutch is controlled by changing the distance between the hydrodynamic clutch rotors. The control system is supposed to maintain a constant angular velocity of the electric generator shaft. The considered method of control has not been used so far in power plant's drive systems. The advantages of using a controlled hydrodynamic clutch is simple structure, high durability and low weight of the entire drive system. The equations of the mathematical model for the drive system are formulated on the basis of: the balance of torques and the equations of the hydrodynamic clutch with retractable rotors. The equations are based on the one-dimensional flow of the working fluid along the mean line of the stream. The model calculations are conducted numerically. In order to be able to determine the coefficients of the mathematical model, experimental research is conducted on a test bench designed specifically for this purpose. The research determines how the rotation direction and size of the gap between rotors influences the torque transferred by the hydrodynamic clutch, for selected values of the clutch’s filling degree and the working fluid’s temperature. On the basis of the model calculations results it was determined that a hydrodynamic clutch controlled by increasing the distance between rotors may be successfully used in drive systems of wind power plants to maintain a constant angular velocity of the electric generator shaft.

This paper discusses the influence of factors shaping electrorheological characteristics of a clutch. Dependencies on the torque transmitted by the output shaft of the clutch were determined for various rhelogical models. The main part of the work is devoted to rheological modelling of the electrorheological cylinder clutch. The discussed rheological models include: visco-plastic and visco-elasto-plastic Bingham models, visco-elasto-plastic Gamota-Filisco, and Li models. The research stand and possible tests are described. The remaining part of the work discus- ses electrorheological characteristics of the ER fluid. Moreover, directions for further research on the laboratory stand designed and made by the author were formulated.
W artykule omówiony jest wpływ czynników na charakterystyki reologiczne sprzęgła. Dla różnych modeli reologicznych określono zależności na moment przenoszony przez wał wyjściowy sprzęgła. Główna część pracy poświęcona jest reologicznemu modelowaniu elektroreologicznego sprzęgła cylindrycznego. Do omawianych modeli reologicznych włączono: lepko-plastyczny i lepko-sprężysto-plastyczny model Binghama, lepko-sprężysto-plastyczny model Gamota-Filisko i Li. Opisano układ pomiarowy stanowiska badawczego i jego możliwości badawcze. W pozostałej części pracy omówiono charakterystyki płynów elektroreologicznych ER. Wyznaczono także kierunki przyszłych badań na stanowisku laboratoryjnym zaprojektowanym i wykonanym przez autora.

This method includes two stages, an analytical stage (composed of 36 algebraic formulas) and a field stage based on the finite element method (FEM). The design procedure is presented systematically, step-by-step, and the results of the consecutive steps of the design calculations are depicted graphically against the background of the entire considered clutch. The essential advantage of the integrated method with this two-stage structure is the relatively high accuracy of the first analytical stage of the design procedure and the rapid convergence of the second field stage employing the FEM. The essence of the new method is the introduction of a yoke factor ky (the concept of which is based on the theory of induction machines) that determines the ratio of magnetomotive force required to magnetise the entire magnetic circuit of the clutch to the magnetomotive force required to magnetise the movement region. The final value, the yoke factor ky is determined using loop calculations. The simplicity of the developed design method predisposes its use in optimisation calculations. The proposed method can also be adapted to other MR devices analysed in shear mode.
