Modulation and regulation of biosynthesis process by means of antisense oligonucleotides lay the foundation for new therapeutic strategies, among others against cancer, viral or angiogenesis diseases. The aim of this account is the presentation of molecular basis of antisense strategy and mechanism of action of antisense oligonucleotides. Furthermore we present the state of art in clinical studies of application of antisense oligonucleotides in some of civilization diseases.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to present and promote pro-health benefits offered by the Bodystyling method, highlighting opinions of female residents of Leuven in Belgium. In order to characterise the method of Bodystyling, the following research methods were used: document analysis, analysis of material from web pages concerning the subject matter, interviews, and observation. The authorial survey questionnaire was carried out in November of 2015 among a group of female residents in Leuven, Belgium. The majority of the group constituted women aged 20-30 years who were university graduates, performing sedentary work with salary of 2000-4000 EUR, married and with children. The main reasons for undertaking the Bodystyling exercises were: health improvement and weight reduction. The majority of women observed a positive influence of the Bodystyling exercises on physical and mental dimension of their health. The offer of Bodystyling is an interesting one for the purpose of prophylaxis, and as a support, in treatment of the diseases of civilization.

Steady decline in habitual physical activity in children and youth has resulted in an increase in body weight with age and a decline in functional ability. Hypokinesia in conjunction with poor diet and stress levels are prerequisites of lifestyle diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases and obesity. In this partial research, being part of the VEGA research No. 1/1343/12 "Selected risk factors of obesity and exercise prevention", we looked at the incidence of health problems related to BMI and physical activity in college students. We calculated BMI based on anthropometric measurements of body height and weight. Using the questionnaire method, we collected data concerning subjectively assessed incidence of health problems and overall representation of physical activity (PA) in the lifestyle of respondents. The study group comprised 1,963 students, including 1,169 female and 794 male undergraduates from two Slovak universities. Health problems with the largest incidence were back pain, alergy, low blood pressure, headache, palpitation and respiratory diseases. Our research confirms that a greater representation of PA in students' lives positively relates to a lower BMI. The results of logistic regression confirm a significant relation between BMI and the following health problems: back pain, palpitation, high blood pressure, obesity, low blood pressure and respiratory illnesses. PA significantly corresponds with the occurence of health problems related to upper respiratory tract and high blood pressure.

Opis:
The health style of the population has deteriorated in the last 10 years, given the possibilities offered by an increasingly advanced civilization. The paper attempts to find the answer to the question whether the development of motorization has an effect on civilization diseases. To this end, the paper began with an analysis of the registered numer of means of transport in Poland and an analysis of the number of cases of malignant and respiratory tract cancers. Then, the focus was on the analysis of exhaust toxicity, discussing its definition and determining the limit values for exhaust toxicity occurring in the means of transport. In the next section, the paper was carried out on the toxicity of exhaust gases of lorries and passenger cars affecting human health. Finally, the paper ends by summarizing the results and drawing the appropriate conclusions.

Opis:
Background: excess body weight in the populations of both developed and developing countries has been a health, social and economic issue for more than 30 years. The causes of overweight and obesity are complex and rooted in many different factors. The reasons why people gain weight need to be explored to prevent obesity-related diseases, to improve the quality of life and health status in the populations. Aim: to discuss genetic and environmental factors impacting on obesity. Materials and methods: a literature-based meta-analysis. Results: various factors contributing to excessive weight gain need to be explored; obesity prevention measures should include health-promoting education, changing eating habits in families as well as recipes and menu options in catering, and also by encouraging sports activity at every ontogenetic stage. Patients with genetic susceptibility to obesity should be supported in prophylaxis through education, elimination measures (diet) and the necessary pharmacological management so that they can remain active and independent for as long as possible. Conclusions: overweight and obesity are now a global problem. In only two generations, health complications due to excess adiposity have become hard to ignore. The process is parallel to the progress of civilisation, with the related stress, processed food, lack of exercise, insufficient sleep. Today, people have access to many modern conveniences in everyday life, and therefore more time for leisure, but still, maintaining normal (healthy) weight is becoming increasingly difficult.
Należy szukać powodów tycia w celu zapobiegania chorobom powiązanych z otyłością, aby podnieść jakość życia i stan zdrowia społeczeństw. Podsumowanie: nadwaga i otyłość to obecnie problem ogólnoświatowy. Zaledwie w ciągu dwóch pokoleń notuje się powikłania zdrowotne z powodu nadmiernego otłuszczenia. Proces ten jest równoległy z rozwojem cywilizacyjnym, związanym z nim stresem, przetworzoną żywnością, brakiem ruchu, zbyt małą ilością snu. Obecnie ludzie dysponują technicznymi udogodnieniami w życiu codziennym, a przez to mają więcej wolnego czasu, a mimo to utrzymanie prawidłowej (zdrowej) masy ciała jest coraz trudniejsze.

Opis:
ObjectivesCardiovascular and metabolic disorders constitute major health problems in the working populations in Europe. The aim of this project was to evaluate the health condition of workers employed in a Polish research and medical institution, and then to establish the necessary preventive actions by creating a modern model of occupational healthcare integrated with civilization disease (CivD) prevention.Material and MethodsOverall, 100 workers voluntarily participated in a health program for CivD prevention during mandatory prophylactic examinations. Data from these examinations was collected in a system of electronic documentation to enable the analysis of the workers’ health condition and risk factors of CivDs.ResultsWomen accounted for 72% of the employees who voluntarily participated in the prevention program, and 80% of the subjects had university education. As regards the health condition, 27% of the patients had elevated systolic, and 23% diastolic, blood pressure, and 21% had an abnormal fasting glucose level. Stressful job was an important factor correlated with an excessive body mass index, diastolic blood pressure, as well as total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Smoking, sedentary work and a lack of physical activity were significant factors for abdominal obesity. Generally, 94% of the program participants required some further interventions in lifestyle, diagnostics or treatment.ConclusionsCivilization disease prevention should focus on increasing physical activity both in leisure time and at the workplace as far as practicable. There is a need for implementing projects leading to occupational stress reduction and smoking cessation. Men as well as workers with vocational and elementary education need to be recruited for prevention programs dedicated to employees.
