Opis:
The paper presents an application of signal processing and computational intelligence methods to detect presence of the wood boring insects larvae in the wooden constructions (such as the furniture of buildings). Such insects are one of the main sources of the degradation in such objects, therefore they should be detected as quickly as possible, before inflicting serious damage. The presented work involved the acoustic monitoring for detecting the presence of the larvae inside pieces of wood. An accelerometer was used to record the sound, further analyzed by a computer algorithm extracting features important for artificial-intelligence (AI) based classification employed to detect the old house borer’s (Hylotrupes bajulus L.) activity. The presented task is difficult, as the sounds made by the larvae are of relatively low amplitude and the background noise caused by people, electrical appliances or other sources may significantly degrade the accuracy of detection. The classification of sounds is needed to separate sources of noise which deteriorate the proper larva detection and should be suppressed if possible. The employed classification was based on features defined in the time domain followed by the support vector machine used as the binary classifier. The results allowed us to assess the effectiveness of the old house borer’s detection by the acoustic analysis enhanced with the AI algorithm.

Opis:
The article presents the results of the experimental verification of the deep hole boring bar tool model. The aim of the work was to obtain a verified boring bar tool model, which in further scientific research will be a starting point for creating a prototype of a tool with a new design, in which dynamic properties will be improved. The research was divided into two stages. In the first stage, modal studies of the model and the real object were carried out. The obtained discrepancy between numerical and experimental results below 8% allows to state that the model is characterized by dynamic properties occurring in the real boring bar. In the second stage of the research, static tests were carried out. The object was loaded with forces of 98.6 N, 195.0 N, 293.8 N. The obtained slight discrepancy in the results of numerical and experimental tests below 3% allows to state that the model reflects the static properties of the real boring bar. The high convergence of the theoretical and experimental results allows for the conclusion that the numerical model has been verified positively.

Opis:
Chatter in machining processes is strong dependent on the dynamic compliance behaviour of the machine tool and workpiece. The critical cutting depth where chatter occurs is in inverse proportion to the absolute value of the negative real part of the complex dynamic compliance response function of the machine tool. Therefore, while designing a machine tool, its dynamic behaviour should be investigated and optimized, e.g. by using the finite element method. If further design optimization are not possible, active damping system might help avoiding chatter of the machine tool. Active damping systems can compensate the dynamic displacements between tool centre point of the machine tool and workpiece by applying dynamically correlated external energ (e.g. compensation forces) onto the machine structure. Next to an explanation of the general idea and systemizatio of active damping systems, this paper gives examples of recent research activities in the field of active damping systems for machine tools of the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of Aachen University, Germany. The main challenges while designing active damping systems for machine tools are carved out.

Opis:
Complex geological structure as well as long-term intensive operation of oil and gas deposits in Borislav-Pokutska zone of Carpathians leads to changes in thermo-dynamical parameters of pools, rock deformation and, as a result, to crippling of the boreholes and creasing and damaging of boring casing. The abovementioned actions not only complicate extraction of oil and gas but increase the technological charge on the environment. In this study 3 types of materials were investigated: PCT-I-100 – traditional tamping cement, CREA and CREA-LF tamping mixes produced by dry mixing technology that were designed by authors. Dry mixes are characterized by higher level of SiO2 because of addition of milled sand and provide better cementation quality. Developed materials are characterized by lower dehydration and water reduction, thanks to clearly chosen composition and modern chemical admixtures usage. The method of borehole eliminative cementation is also presented by authors.

Opis:
In this paper, the analysis of vibrations on surface roughness generated during boring with the application of the conventional boring tool and one with the damper is presented. The experiments included the measurement of vibration accelerations carried out with the piezoelectric sensor, as well as the evaluation of surface roughness parameters after each machining pass. The obtained results reveal that in the investigated range, no stability loss was found. Furthermore, the growth of the rotational speed induces the increase of vibration level, as well as the growth of the differences between the vibration values generated during boring with the conventional tool and one equipped with damper. Vibrations have also the direct influence on the machined surface roughness. In case of the tool equipped with the damper, the tool’s overhang L had more intense influence than rotational speed n. However, for the conventional boring tool this dependency was unequivocal.

The resolvability of Stephen's problem with convective heat transfer met in problems of the theory of not isothermal filtration is considered in the paper. The speed of a liquid phase is considered to be known and congruent with the Darcy law. Everywhere where the temperature of fusion of paraffin is lower, it is considered to be equal to zero.

Opis:
The operating subway tunnel is often damaged due to excessive deformation in China. In order to ensure the safe for operation, remediation and protection measures must be taken, especially in soft soil areas. This paper presents a case study on remedial scheme of damaged TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) tunnel adjacent to excavation combining with MJS (Metro Jet System) and micro-disturbance grouting technology in Hangzhou, China. The track bed settlement, horizontal displacement and convergence of the TBM tunnel caused by MJS and micro-disturbance grouting construction were analyzed and discussed. The results showed the characteristics of soil layer under the tunnel have significant influence on the treatment effect. Even if multiple grouting was adopted, the treatment failure may occur under the combination action of external loads such as traffic load or surcharge load, which should be considered when civil engineers design remediation scheme. The results can provide practical experience and guidance for similar treatment scheme of damaged TBM tunnel.

Opis:
One of the effective techniques to strengthen the subgrade is boring and mixing technology, which is based on the immersion of vertical elements – piles into the subgrade. This method of strengthening significantly affects the stress state of the track superstructure. Two options of the placement of strengthening elements are examined in this paper. To determine the influence of position of strengthening elements on the stress state of the track superstructure, appropriate finite-element models were created. The models fully reflect the geometric and deformation characteristics of a real subgrade, which is strengthened by piles. The calculated stress state of the track superstructure is shown and analyzed in this paper. The main contribution of the paper lies in optimization of the geometric parameters of the technology to reduce the stress state of the "track superstructure–subgrade–soil basement" system. The results show that the location of piles near the rails is more effective than the location of piles near the ballast section.
