borehole heat exchangers
Opis:
The climatic conditions and the heating and cooling load between Ghent, Belgium, and Krakow, Poland, are compared. The cost of heating and cooling is calculated and compared. Heating in Belgium is done by using natural gas, just like in Poland, but due to higher gas prices, cost of heating is higher in Belgium than in Poland. That is why an interesting alternative for heating and cooling, namely borehole heat exchanger coupled with a heat pump, is calculated. This seems to be an economic and environmentally friendly alternative for heating and cooling.

Opis:
Borehole heat exchangers (BHE) are made as hydraulic systems consolidated by cement slurry in boreholes. They mediate in heat exchange between the receiver on the surface (heat pump), and the reservoir of thermal energy (rock mass). In the analytical description of temperature changes accompanying energy download and return to the rock mass, the temperature of the entire borehole heat exchanger is assumed to be the same. In fact, the exchanger temperature changes both in the vertical and horizontal cross-sectional view of the exchanger. Accordingly, the temperature of the interface of the hardened cement slurry and the rock mass differs from the one which was adopted for design calculations. The article shows the differences between the theoretical and actual state, when the temperature was measured with a thermal imaging camera. It also includes suggestions regarding the mathematical description of temperature changes on the side surface of the heat exchanger. Measurements were made by a model of a BHE equipped with a single U-tube.

Opis:
The regeneration of rock mass heat resources with the use of four sources can be done with the use of installations owned by the Geoenergetics Laboratory, Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas AGH UST. This paper is devoted to one of them, i.e. an air heater. In the case of increased thermal energy consumption the rock mass can be excessively cooled, which may cause problems with providing thermal standard for buildings making use of ground as a source of heat. New additional sources supplementing the process of heat resources regeneration is a key element of maintaining the high efficiency of the heating-cooling system. A real case exemplifying how free thermal energy can be stored with an air heater in the summer season is discussed in this paper. The procedure and respective conclusions are analyzed. The results of most important measurements are tabularized and their functions plotted in the form graphs.

Opis:
For the correct design, the number and the location of borehole heat exchangers, it is necessary to know thermal properties of rocks and the exchanger. This applies particularly to larger installations, more than 100 kW. One of the methods of determining these values is Thermal Response Test. This method is based on measurements in the first drilled borehole heat exchanger. Based on results of the TRT geothermal analysis is made. The analysis defines: the number of wells, the arrangement of wells, and the parameters of temperature of heat carrier after long-term use. This analysis based on calculations using specialist software. This paper presents the determination of the number of borehole heat exchangers and working conditions (temperature of the heat carrier) of an underground heat reservoir accessed using borehole heat exchangers for the building of the Primary School in Myszków.

Opis:
Underground heat exchangers (BHE) are used witch elements to transport energy between the ground and other objects on the surface of the land. For simplification described in mathematical apparatus, they works are explain how linear heat source. The temperature is the same in all bodies of this model. This reduction to let easy describe theoretical changes temperature in BHE through transporting energy to / from rock in analytic mathematic method. The bad effect of this method is present by the same value of temperature in horizontal cross‑section and along BHE. The analysis of change of temperature field in the sealing cement BHE is a possibility for numerical simulation or laboratory model. Computer simulation needed according energy transport law. It to say about quantity of energy conducting between horizontal cross‑section of BHE cells, on which is divided. The second method obtains value of temperature points of the sealing cement. This is to be realized by sensors set up in to the horizontal cross‑section of BHE of laboratory model. This is possible thanks constructed the model of cross‑section of BHE.

Opis:
Sometimes there is not enough room for drilling vertical borehole heat exchangers. Hence, the idea of slant boreholes emerged. They can provide access to a rock mass, being an underground heat reservoir, located beneath infrastructure. To optimize the average value of thermal conductivity and use those layers in a given geological profile that possess best properties in the view of thermal efficiency, Geothermal Radial Drilling is used, being a very efficient technology. A GeoDrill 4R drill rig, specially designed for the Geothermal Radial Drilling technology, enables drilling at an angle between 30 and 65 degrees, which in turn, together with data on the geological profile, allows for designing the layout of exchangers so as to obtain longest possible section of a given exchanger within most energetic layers. The paper includes a description of a few investments which use Geothermal Radial Drilling for heating purposes. It also presents a comparative study between Geothermal Radial Drilling and conventional vertical borehole exchangers.

Opis:
The Geoenergetics Laboratory at the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas in Krakow is presented in this paper to mark its 10th anniversary. The origins of the Laboratory, its equipment and the design of borehole heat exchangers belonging to the field research station are also discussed. Recently, the construction of 14 new borehole heat exchangers was designed and the boreholes will be drilled in the area of AGH University. They will perform heating and cooling for the new S1 building of the University. Every borehole heat exchanger will be tested, with the effective thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistivity calculated after a thermal response test on every borehole. The difference between boreholes should show the difference of borehole thermal resistivity, but the effective thermal conductivity should be the same.

Opis:
The mountain areas, due to their specificity, require special approach to issues concerning heating and air-conditioning of buildings. After presenting general information on demand for heat in a standard residential building, the forecasting of demand for final energy by particular branches of economy has been presented. Fossil fuels are most commonly used in heating buildings. In this kind of systems the heat is supplied to the consumer by means of heating pipes provided by heat power stations or combined heat and power stations or it is generated in boilers owned by the consumers. The remote heat source can also be energy from geothermal power station, as it is in the Podhale region. There is an alternative solution to these systems in the form of heat pumps that are often connected to borehole heat exchangers. Depending on the energy balance of the heating system and air-conditioning of a particular building the latter system can be additionally aided by solar collectors. This method requires only a power service connection, which is available almost in every building. Moreover, practical uses of the proposed system, which should be more widely applied in the mountain areas, have been described.
