Opis:
Biodiesel is widely perceived as a source of ecological energy used to power compression ignition engines as an alternative to fossil fuels. Depletion of fossil fuels and increasing environmental awareness of society has led to an increased demand for energy derived from renewable sources. This phenomenon requires acquisition of raw material used for biofuel production. In order avoid controversies related to misuse of edibles; sources of biofuel production should be viewed as inedible or waste materials. This paper presents an analysis of possible sources of animal material intended for biofuel production. An examination of the quality assessment for biofuels obtained in the laboratory setup, produced from swine lard and turkey fat is presented. The results have been compared to rapeseed biofuel and commercial diesel fuel as fuels commonly used to power compression ignition engines. The paper concerns an examination of pure biofuels and their mixtures with commercial diesel fuel in three different proportions. Parameters such as density, viscosity, acid value, cold filter plugging point, oxidation stability, sulphur content, total contamination, water content and flash point has been examined according to procedures outlined in the PN-EN 14214 Standard. Based on the results, biofuels and their mixtures have been analysed for use in compression ignition engines.

Opis:
Ukraine has rather big potential of biomass available for energy production. Biomass (excluding the share that is used by other sectors of economy) can cover up to 9% of the total primary energy demand. Technologies of biomass utilization are mostly at the beginning of their development in Ukraine, but they have good prospects for commercialization in the near future. The quality classification is interesting for both small and big consumers. The quality classification is focused to the most important commercial biofuels as briquettes, pellets, wood chips, crushed wooden fuel, wooden logs, sawdust, bark, straw bales. That classification is flexible and thus manufacturer or customer can choose any properties class corresponding with produced or required fuel quality. That free classification does not bind mutually different properties of individual fuels. Its advantage is in fact that manufacturer and customer can agree with a certain characteristics for each simple case. In the paper are presented Europian examples of specification of properties for briquettes, pellets, straw bales and for classes of high-quality solid biofuels for household. Development of bioenergy technologies would reduce Ukraine dependence on imported energy carriers, enhance its energy security at the expense of organizing energy supply based on local renewable sources, create a lot of new jobs (mostly in rural area), contribute greatly to the improvement of ecological situation.

Opis:
The objective of the presented work was to examine the optical properties of selected bio-fuel waste. Three independent optical methods: UV-Vis spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy and chromametric measurements were applied to establish the possible quality control test for the obtained substances. The following by-products were tested: distilled glycerine, technical glycerine and matter organic non glycerine fraction from rapeseed oil bio-fuel production. The results show that analysis of UV-Vis spectra can give rapid information about the purity of distilled glycerine, while no direct information can be obtained concerning the concentration and kind of impurities. Transmission mode is more useful as compared to absorption, concerning the detection abilities of average UV-Vis spectrometers. Infrared spectroscopy can be used as a complementary method for determining impurities/admixtures in samples. Measurements of chroma give the quickest data to compare the colour of biofuel by-products obtained by different producers. The condition is, however, that the products are received through the same or similar chemical processes. The other important factor is application of well defined measuring background. All the discussed analyses are quick, cheap and non-destructive, and can help to compare the quality of products.

Opis:
The impact of biomass addition to the RDF oversize fraction on quality parameters obtained from this blend of briquettes produced under semi-industrial conditions was analysed. For the purposes related to the experiment four RDF mixtures with fragmented biomass of common willow Salix viminalis L., differing only with percentage participation of base elements, were prepared. The briquetting process was performed with the use of a semi-industrial briquetting machine at the determined compaction pressure of 47 MPa and a diameter of a sleeve (and a briquette at the same time) of 50 mm. Selected quality parameters of produced briquettes were determined, i.e. density, mechanical strength DU and compression strength. The best parameters were obtained for briquettes produced from the blend with a 50% share of willow (ρ=843.9 kg·m-3, DU=86.1%, Rc=0.46 MPa). The lowest parameters were in case of briquettes without biomass addition. Statistical analysis of research results indicates that biomass additions to RDF significantly affect the improvement of quality parameters of the obtained briquettes.
