Opis:
The slide bearing material MB11 fatigue resistance has been investigated with the application of SMOK - test stand in which dynamic unidirectional loadings to the test bearing is generated. Slide bearing layer consists of the bronze (Cu Pb22 Sn 3) sintered to the steel shell. Each of the tested bearing has been subject to the standard 20-hour test, under conditions of the full fluid lubrication. Methodology of the experiments, metallurgical test results and fractographic description of the lining fatigue crack zone are presented. The values of the fatigue strength parameters are also estimated. For the loading pattern that is characteristic for the test devices such as SMOK tester, because of the nominally negative high normal stresses in the damage area, the mechanisms of cracks generation could be explained as follows: yield stress can be reached when during compression at the bearing working temperature the local plastic deformation can appear. After completing the test, in the region of plastic deformation, the tensile stresses can be generated due to the temperature reduction. Slide material is much more sensitive to the tensile loadings than to the compressive one, especially in the area that is weaken by empty spaces. That might be reason for cracks generation. Additionally in the case of the thin-wall bearing shell, assembled in the elastic housing, the circumferentially oriented cracks can appear. It has been observed for high bearing loadings applied on the SMOK tester. Fatigue cracks in the MB11 material tested on the SMOK machine are of the surface net pattern, positioned paralleled to the slide surface (Fig. 8). Mainly structural cracks can be noticed when analyzing the metallographic description. This is related to the porosity of the alloy structure. This is much different from the aluminum alloy structure (the bearing alloy that was previously investigated) where arterial structures of cracks were dominant. The slide surface is the place of cracks nucleation. When in slide layer there are bigger soft material elements or voids it is also possible to observe generation of cracks in any place of the bulk thickness. During consequent development of the process the micro-cracks are spreading out and going to the next defected parts of the alloys. The continuous surface of separation is then developed. The micro-cracks space net which is typical for this kind of damage is not precisely oriented but rather random. The eventually oriented fracture is due to the not uniform structure.

Opis:
In recent years more and more frequently can be met ships in which propeller shaft water-lubricated polymer bearings have been applied. It results from their simplicity and associated relatively low initial and operational cost as compared with the complex classical sealed system based on oil-lubricated bearings. It is worth mentioning that the water-lubricated bearings are also environmentally friendly as no risk of pollution with lubricating oil used in classical systems, is involved. Design procedure of bearings in question based on materials made available by producers is relatively simple. However it turns out that choice of an appropriate sliding material, clearance value and optimum arrangement of lubricating grooves may greatly influence bearing’s properties. As results from the performed research investigations, bearing of the kind is a highly sensitive unit. Problems of choosing a suitable bearing clearance, designing an optimum bush geometry, selecting a proper bush material are crucial for life time of the bearing. In particular the problem is in forming hydrodynamical properties of bearing as owing to its operation in the fluid friction regime durability of bearings, the very responsible units of propulsion transmission system, can be greatly extended.

Opis:
Gas foil bearings are on the cutting edge of bearing systems that spread worldwide. Although it is a common practice to apply such systems to high-speed fluid-flow machinery, their modelling and analysis still pose a number of problems. This article describes the methodology used to assess dynamic properties of a rotor-bearings system supported by foil bearings. Particularly close attention has been paid to the system operation in a transitional state during which a gaseous lubricating film is formed. The conception for the description of the rotor support characteristics was implemented in a computer program that is still under development. The approach that has been taken makes it possible to analyse the system properties throughout a whole range of rotational speeds. Another approach used in the past enabled for analyses of the dynamic performance of rotors, but only on the condition that bearing operation is correct (i.e. only fluid friction in bearing is present). The new model allows for much broader analyses of bearings operation, as confirmed by the obtained results. The article discusses exemplary results of analyses and shows a way one can assess the dynamic properties of rotating machinery equipped with foil bearings even when analysed under transient operating conditions.

Opis:
As demand for high-performance fluid-flow machines (including micro-turbines) increases across the globe, new non-conventional bearing systems are needed. In the last years, specialized technical solutions involving the use of gas foil bearings have been progressively introduced. The application of carefully selected, thin foils as key parts of foil bearings ensures stable operation of the rotor, which is supported by such bearings, even at very high rotational speeds. The article discusses the tests performed on the foil bearings incorporating a friction relieving polymer coating. The research was conducted on an advanced test rig allowing the experiments to be run at high speeds and elevated temperatures, which is in conditions that are typical for micro-turbine operation. The measurements of bearing components’ temperature and vibration levels were carried out at various rotational speeds. The tested bearings were also assessed from the point of view of wear and durability. Conducted research demonstrated that the carefully selected materials that were used to manufacture foil bearings’ key components have successfully contributed to achieving reliable operation within a wide range of rotational speeds, providing very good dynamic properties for the rotor.

Opis:
The wire-raceway bearings are a subcategory of slewing bearings. Their popularity has recently increased due to their advantages, including weight that is lower than that of other similar slewing bearings, and the ability of transferring various loads, such as axial load, radial load and tilting moment. Currently, metal rings (steel or aluminum) are the most popular choice for all kinds of slewing bearings; however, with advent of additive manufacturing a new ‘chapter’ opens for the development of wire raceway slewing bearings, where the interface between the rolling elements and the raceway is the same as in other bearings (i.e., contact between steel-steel). At the same time, rings can be made from other lightweight materials, such as composites or plastics, with high-level shape customization due to 3D printing. Stress between wire raceways and rings is much lower. Hence, rings’ lower material properties do not significantly affect bearing capacity. Proper calculation methodology should be created to analyze lightweight wire raceway bearings, as materials can differ significantly from typical materials covered by current theories. The paper presents a prototyped 3D-printed bearing with rings made from polylactic acid (PLA). The bearing stiffness is measured and compared with the simplified finite element analysis (FEA) model using the equivalent bearing model with nonlinear springs and beam elements.

This paper presents the project of the test stand to determine the friction force, the relative eccentricity and temperature distribution m the slide journal bearing during the lubrication with ferrofluid or classic oil. The test stand is built on the basis of TUM 25 lathe's corps. There is the shaft with a diameter of journal d = 100 mm supported on two supports attached to the lathe's body. There is a sleeve in the housing with the electromagnets installed in the centre of this shaft. The housing of sleeve is loaded bv a transverse force with hydrostatic supports (cylindrical and flat one). Measurement of friction force is made by strain gauge force sensor Friction force is measured on the body shells. At the same time is performed measurement of both sleeve and journal displacements by four inductive displacement's sensor s and four whirl-stream ones to determine the relative eccentricity and displacement of sleeve axis towards oj the shaft axis. The slide bearing is supplied bv the ferrofluid which is thermatly stabilized in ultrathermostat. In the paper is shown particular plan for experimental research. These studies are intended to demonstrate the changes of relative eccentricity and temperature distribution in the bearing. Additionally are presented the changes of friction forces caused by the bearing surfaces shape and ferrolubricant with different concentrations of magnetic particles Fe3O4. The gap of slide bearing can be affected by the external longitudinal magnetic field with different ralues of magnetic field strength. The bearing may by loaded a transverse force varying stepwise, or continuously with values from a few to several thousand Newton. A/so, the rotational velocitv of Journal can be changed stepwise, or continuously from 0 to 6000 rpm using a programmable inverter.

Magnetic bearings are used in several applications, but they didn’t succeed in the machine tool industry, due basically to their low damping, with its associated low chatter free cutting capacity. This work shows the development of a high speed milling spindle supported on magnetic bearings with high chatter resistance. That is achieved by using control strategies which add damping to the bearings. Excitation by means of the magnetic bearings is used to identify its dynamic behaviour and to optimize the damping parameters. Finally the results of the industrial validation are presented; showing an increase of six times in the cutting capacity.

This paper reports on a study of the influence of solid particle contamination on the wear process in water-lubricated slide bearings (steel-acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) and steel- polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)). To compare the wear of the shaft journal and bushes (NBR and PTFE) when lubricated with fresh water and contaminated water, an experiment was carried out to identify key factors that influence the state of wear of slide bearing. The amount of wear was checked by means of geometric structure measurements on the journals, namely, roughness profile measurements using both a contact profilometer and an optical microscope. The obtained results enabled correlations between the material comprising the sliding sleeve, roughness of the journals and contamination inside the water-lubricated slide bearings.

The core of the presented problem is to numerically and experimentally determine, or to indicate, the values of the optimum pressure and liquid velocity values appearing near the cells, of micro-bearing cooperating surfaces, and to find ways of controlling the friction forces between particles of the liquid and the cell of the micro-bearing cooperating bodies in the thin boundary layer. Investigations of the physical and strength features are expected to be performed for various hinds of micro-bearing superficial layer and for efficient and damages micro-bearings. In order to begin treating the surface structure of a superficial layer on the cooperating micro-bearing surfaces it is absolutely necessary to have at one's disposal the proper model of a liquid flow in the thin layer, and to obtain the proper values of friction forces. During presented research are realized the following tasks: 1.  The methodology of analytical and numerical efforts to obtain characteristics on the micro- and nano- level of pressure, liquid velocity and friction forces, 2.          The methodology of experimental efforts on the nano- level to measure thin layer lubricant properties between cooperating micro-bearing surfaces. 3.          The methodology of experimental research on the micro- and macro -level to measure cooperating surfaces in micro-bearing

The paper presents the research on the effect of elevated temperature on the dynamic performance of a rotor supported by foil bearings. The tests were carried out on the test rig equipped with a module for increasing temperature around the bearings. A 3 kW motor with two ceramic ball bearings was connected to the shaft by means of a flexible coupling. The shaft was supported by gas foil bearings. The maximum rotational speed of the rotor was 24000 rpm. The tests were performed with the operating rotor, covering multiple start and stop cycles at room and elevated temperatures. During the first stage of experimental investigation vibration, displacement and temperature values for the two bearings were recorded. Then, the temperature was raised to approx. 200 ◦C within one of the bearing supports. The parameters mentioned above were registered and compared with the results obtained during room temperature operation. After each test bearings were disassembled, regenerated as necessary and reassembled. After analysis of the results achieved, it could be noted that the system was sensitive to the altering of operating conditions of the rotor. The elevated temperature around the shaft has increased its diameter, thereby reducing the lubricating gap. In spite of adverse operating conditions affecting the rotor, the whole system operated in a safe and stable manner.

In this paper are presented the possibilities to attain the artificial intelligence features of slide micro-bearings taking into account: 1.           Cooperation between super thin boundary lubricant layer and thin superficial layer lying on the micro-bearing shaft and sleeve with various shapes. 2.           Application of a novel method of depositing thin organic and inorganic layer (superficial layer) onto a metal substrate utilizing electro-spraying (electrostatic atomization) method. The new achievements presented in this paper are aimed at application of this technology to functional layer deposition in micro-bearings. Electro-spraying is a low-energy process of liquid atomisation by means of electrical forces. Electro-spraying device consists of a capillary nozzle connected to a high electric potential whereas the substrate is grounded. The liquid flowing out the nozzle is subjected to an electrical stress, and fine droplets are generated from the meniscus or the jet formedat the nozzle outlet. Depending on physical properties of the liquid to be spraye dań d spraying conditions, the size of the droplets can be in the submicron size range. In the electro-spraying process, a solution or a suspension of a material to be deposited is atomised into droplets, which can be targeted onto a substrate to form a condensed product, for example a thin layer after solvent evaporation. The deposition efficiency of charged droplets on a target is much higher than for uncharged ones due to electric forces, which drive the droplets along the electric filed lines towards the substrate.

Opis:
The slewing bearings are applied in heavy working machines and operated in extreme conditions. A characteristic feature of these bearings are a high load which determining a large deflection of a contact zone rolling element - raceway. This phenomenon combined with the effects of a bearing clearance causes a significant increase in a contact angle of the bearing. This in turn causes displacement of the contact zone to an undesirable position. In the construction of slewing bearing is applied of a large value of the osculation ratio. This leads to occur of large sizes of the contact zone identified in a radial cross-section. The sizes are comparable to values of the radius of the ball. The contact zone is type of quasi-linear. Effects of changes the position of the contact zone in the double-row ball slewing bearing has been presented in the paper. The raceway profile for such bearing consists of the arc section changing in the radial section. When the contact zone includes a change point of curvature of the raceway profile it comes to a concentration of a contact stress, and this is unfavourable for operation of the bearing. In order to eliminate this phenomenon to the profile introduced a transition curve. For this purpose was selected a clothoid. The curve ensures a gradual change of curvature from the arc section of the profile to the zero curvature of the straight profile section. The raceway profile becomes the smooth curve of the second rank. In the article are presented a numerical model of the contact zone for the double-row ball slewing bearing and the distributions of a pressure in the contact zone for the ordinary and modified raceway profiles. The calculation results have been presented as graphs of the distributions of the pressure along the contact zone. It has been shown that the introduction modification of the raceway profile eliminates the concentration of the pressure along the contact zone profile. The results obtained can be used during design of the raceway profiles of the double-row ball slewing bearing.

The article describes a test stand with a spindle equipped with an active bearing preload system using piezoelectric actuators. The proper functioning of the spindle and the active system was associated with the correct alignment of the spindle shaft and the drive motor. The article presents two methods of shaft alignment. The use of commonly known shaft alignment methods with dial indicators is insufficient from the viewpoint of being able to control this preload. This work aims at making the readers aware that, for systems with active bearing preload, the latest measuring devices should be used to align the shaft. The use of commonly known methods of equalization with dial gauges is insufficient from the point of view of controlling this preload. Increasing the accuracy of shaft alignment from 0.1 to 0.01 mm made it possible to obtain a 50% reduction in the displacement of the outer bearing ring during spindle operation.
