The present study was conducted in the lobbies of 16 Taiwanese urban hospitals to establish what contributes to the degree of noisiness experienced by patients and those accompanying them. Noise level measurements were then conducted by 15 min equivalent sound pressure levels (LAeq, 15m, dB) during daytime hours. The average LAeq itself was found to be poorly related to perceived noisiness. Levels variations were better correlated, more continual noise may actually be perceived as noisier. According to the findings of a multiple linear stepwise regression model (r = 0.91, R2 = 0.83), the 3 independent variables shown to have the largest effects on perceived noisiness were 1) 1/(L5−L95), 2) effective duration of the normalized autocorrelation function (_e, h), of all LAeq, 15m over 9–17, and 3) percentile loudness, N5, 15m. These results resemble previous studies that had assumed that a larger fluctuation of noise level corresponds to less annoyance experienced for mixed traffic noise studied in a laboratory situation. As an advanced approach, for hospital noise that consisted of 12 audible noise events, subjective noisiness were evaluated by the noise time structure analyzed by autocorrelation with loudness and levels variation.

The paper presents a method for assessing the hydrological inertia of the river catchment areas using the autocorrelation function. The method presented can be used as the criterion for the determination of the degree of hazard to the river basins from the potential hydrological droughts. The basins with high inertia are less susceptible to the shortages of supply and are less threatened by the occurrence of hydrological droughts.

Opis:
The paper deals with coded design of signals of remarkable correlation quality or minimizing of codes with respect to correlation function owing to the best spatially distributed impulses of coded signals. The method based on application of remarkable properties of particular combinatorial structures called "Gold Numerical Rings" (GNR)s, provided to simplify finding the optimal variants for synthesis of the signals is described. Method for coded design of the signals using GNRs, can be well applied in electronic engineering, control systems, telecommunications and radio-engineering.
Referat dotyczy konstruowania sygnałów o dobrej jakości korelacyjnej lub kodów minimalizowanych według funkcji autokorelacji poprzez jak najlepsze rozmieszczenie kolejności impulsów kodowanych sygnałów w przestrzeni. Opisana metoda bazuje na szczególnych właściwościach pewnych rodzajów struktur kombinatorycznych, zwanych "Złotymi Pierścieniami Liczbowymi" (ZPL), pozwalających uprościć poszukiwanie optymalnych wariantów syntezy takich sygnałów. Metoda konstruowania sygnałów za pomocą ZPL może być z powodzeniem stosowana w energoelektronice, układach sterowania, telekomunikacji i radio-inżynierii.

This paper presents a new simple and accurate frequency estimator of a sinusoidal signal based on the signal autocorrelation function (ACF). Such an estimator was termed as the reformed covariance for half-length autocorrelation (RC-HLA). The designed estimator was compared with frequency estimators well-known from the literature, such as the modified covariance for half-length autocorrelation (MC-HLA), reformed Pisarenko harmonic decomposition for half-length autocorrelation (RPHD-HLA), modified Pisarenko harmonic decomposition for half-length autocorrelation (MPHD-HLA), zero-crossing (ZC), and iterative interpolated DFT (IpDFT-IR) estimators. We determined the samples of the ACF of a sinusoidal signal disturbed by Gaussian noise (simulations studies) and the samples of the ACF of a sinusoidal voltage (experimental studies), calculated estimators based on the obtained samples, and computed the mean squared error (MSE) to compare the estimators. The errors were juxtaposed with the Cramér-Rao lower bound (CRLB). The research results have shown that the proposed estimator is one of the most accurate, especially for SNR>25dB. Then the RC-HLA estimator errors are comparable to the MPHD-HLA estimator errors. However, the biggest advantage of the developed estimator is the ability to quickly and accurately determine the frequency based on samples collected from no more than five signal periods. In this case, the RC-HLA estimator is the most accurate of the estimators tested.

In this paper a new 2D representation for local damage detection is presented. It is based on a vibration time series analysis. A raw vibration signal is decomposed via short-time Fourier transform and new time series for each frequency bin are differentiated to decorrelate them. For each time series, auto-correlation function is calculated. In the next step ACF maps are constructed. For healthy bearing ACF map should not have visible horizontal lines indicating damage. The method is illustrated by analysis of real data containing signals from damaged bearing and healthy for comparison.

The article presents new tools for investigating the statistical properties of the harmonic signal autocorrelation function (ACF). These tools enable identification of the ACF estimator errors in measurements in which the triggering of the measurements is non-synchronized. This is important because in many measurement situations the initial phase of the measured signal is random. The developed tools enable testing the ACF estimator of a harmonic signal in the presence of Gaussian noise. These are the formulas on the basis of which the statistical properties of the estimator can be determined, including the bias, the variance and the mean squared error (MSE). For comparison, the article also presents the ACF statistical analysis tools used in the conditions of synchronized measurement triggering, known from the literature. Operation of the new tools is verified by simulation and experimental studies. The conducted research shows that differences between the MSE results obtained with the use of the developed formulas and those attained from simulations and experimental tests are not greater than 1 dB.

The aim of this paper is to study periodic solutions of Marchuk's model, i.e. the system of ordinary differential equations with time delay describing the immune reactions. The Hopf bifurcation theorem is used to show the existence of a periodic solution for some values of the delay. Periodic dynamics caused by periodic immune reactivity or periodic initial data functions are compared. Autocorrelation functions are used to check the periodicity or quasiperiodicity of behaviour.

The paper presents a novel hybrid spectrum sensing method used in cognitive radio and presents a hybrid detector (HD) which improves the sensing performance. The proposed HD takes advantage of the energy detection (ED) principle and a method based on Covariance Absolute Value (CAV), as well as on Cyclic Autocorrelation Function (CAF). The paper shows the limitations of using ED, resulting from the uncertainty of spectral density of noise power estimation, known as the SNR wall. The paper describes a system model and presents simulation results for the OFDM signal of a WiMAX-based communications system. The simulation results refer to an ideal environment with well-known parameters, and to an environment with uncertain spectral density of noise power estimation.

Commonly used noninvasive fetal monitoring is based on fetal heart rate (FHR) variability analysis of the Doppler ultrasound signal coming from the mechanical activity of the fetal heart. Estimation of periodicity of acquired signals using the autocorrelation technique is very important. The determination of cardiac intervals using the Doppler signal is more difficult than in electrocardiography, where the R-waves are evident. We investigated the influence of the autocorrelation window size on the FHR variability analysis. The indices describing the FHR variability calculated for signals obtained using two different autocorrelation techniques with various window lengths were compared with the reference ones obtained from fetal electrocardiogram. The optimal window was a compromise between artifacts resistance and the averaging level of instantaneous variability.

Opis:
Results of the ab initio molecular dynamics calculations of silicon crystals are presented by means of analysis of the velocity autocorrelation function and determination of mean phonon relaxation time. The mean phonon relaxation time is crucial for prediction of the phonon-associated coefficient of thermal conductivity of materials. A clear correlation between the velocity autocorrelation function relaxation time and the coefficient of thermal diffusivity has been found. The analysis of the results obtained has indicated a decrease of the velocity autocorrelation function relaxation time t with increase of temperature. The method proposed may be used to estimate the coefficient of ther-mal diffusivity and thermal conductivity of the materials based on silicon and of other wide-bandgap semiconductors. The correlation between kinetic energy fluctuations and relaxation time of the velocity autocorrelation function has been calculated with the relatively high coefficient of determination R2 = 0.9396. The correlation obtained and the corresponding approach substantiate the use of kinetic energy fluctuations for the calculation of values related to heat conductivity in silicon-based semiconductors (coefficients of thermal conductivity and diffusivity).

The paper presents a method for determination of damping during in-flight flutter tests. The method is based on a new estimate of the correlation function. Actually, the necessity has emerged of a new estimator of the autocorrelation function which, when applied to finite unsteady signals of short duration, does not change the values and signs of damping coefficients. The paper provides theoretical backgrounds of the proposed method. The new correlation function was applied to the AND AT procedure [4,5,6] for flutter analysis. The procedure was verified based on both simulation data and in-flight vibration measurements.
Artykuł prezentuje metodę wyznaczania tłumienia w czasie prób flatterowych w locie. Metoda oparta jest o nową estymację funkcji korelacji. Prezentowany estymator funkcji autokorelacji, zastosowany do skończonych, niestacjonarnych, krótkich sygnałów nie zmienia wartości i znaków wyznaczonych współczynników tłumienia. Artykuł przedstawia teoretyczne podstawy proponowanej metody. Metoda ta zastosowana została w procedurze analizy flatterowej ANDAT. Testowano ją stosując sygnały symulowane oraz zarejestrowane w czasie prób w locie. Praca zrealizowana została w ramach programu EUREKA E!2419 "FLITE".

Real estate turnover is a spatial phenomenon, because the location of properties refers to geographic space. Transaction prices are attribute values which distribution in geographic space can be subject to an analysis. The analysis of spatial autocorrelation of transaction prices of properties permits detection of local outlier transactions, detection of clusters of high and low prices, and the assessment of the statistical significance of such clusters. Transaction prices of undeveloped properties intended for building development obtained in suburban areas, and the location of such properties may suggest the intensity of the occurring processes of functional transformations. Results of statistical analyses of the spatial distribution of unitary transaction prices of such properties may constitute an element of specific characteristic of rural communes located in the vicinity of large cities. The article presents results of the analyses and their interpretation for selected rural communes of the Otwock district. The study was conducted in the scope of research grant entitled: "Spatial analysis of undeveloped land property transactions for the purposes of prediction of unfavourable changes in land use at variance with the idea of sustainable development of suburban areas", implemented in 2015 at the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography of the Warsaw University of Technology.

Spectral methods constitute a useful tool in the analysis and synthesis of Boolean functions, especially in cases when other methods reduce to brute-force search procedures. There is renewed interest in the application of spectral methods in this area, which extends also to the closely connected concept of the autocorrelation function, for which spectral methods provide fast calculation algorithms. This paper discusses the problem of spectral decomposition of Boolean functions using the Walsh transform and autocorrelation characteristics.
