One of the enhanced oil recovery methods, which enables to recover an additional 15–20% of oil resources is the CO2-EOR method based on carbon dioxide injection into partially depleted reservoirs. Determination of the optimal process control facilitates effective use of natural resources. The idea of this paper is to develop an algorithm that optimizes the CO2-EOR process. This algorithm is based on the combination of artificial intelligence, control theory and computer simulation of hydrocarbon reservoirs. The effect of the proposed solution is the CO2-EOR process control, which is optimal in the case of the adopted objective function expressing the economic value of the project. The obtained results suggest that the use of artificial intelligence methods in the hydrocarbon production allows to improve the process efficiency by an additional 31% compared to the project carried out with the use of engineering knowledge.

When the infectious coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 broke out it resulted in a global crisis. In the fight of Covid-19, China’s government relied on its strength to apply new technologies, i.e. for controlling and containment of the virus by tracing and tracking Chinese citizens. Relying on the trajectory of industrialisation, China has pursued a path of innovation. While it is reasoned that China’s advantage might have origin in the experience of the SARS outbreak almost two decades ago, this article argues that mainly China’s innovation- driven climate has favoured the application of new technologies in combatting the current crisis. Based on the innovation-driven trajectory this article explores China’s pathway out the corona crisis and how this might strengthen China’s role in global health governance. In order to pursue this aim, this article explores several areas, in which the next generation of technologies, such as AI-based diagnostic or intelligent robots were applied and concludes with an outlook based on the formulated political agenda, strategic considerations and initial international cooperation regarding China’s impact for global health.

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are one of top investment priorities in these days. They are aimed at finding applications in fields of special value for humans, including education. Chatbots are one of those AI-driven solutions that support learning and teaching processes also in higher education institutions. In this paper there are presented two cases of chatbot technology implementation at Polish universities. Chatbots develop students’ technical and programming skills, but also provide the possibility of gaining linguistic expertise. However, a chatbot’s teaching mastery depends also on its users. That is why it is important to get students to truly understand AI systems and feel responsible for the conversation. But above all, we should ensure that chatbots respect human and civil rights.

Opis:
With the growing number of city vehicles, traffic management is becoming a persistent challenge. Traffic bottlenecks cause significant disturbances in our everyday lives and raise stress levels, negatively impacting the environment by increasing carbon emissions. Due to the population increase, megacities are experiencing severe challenges and significant delays in their day-to-day activities related to transportation. An intelligent traffic management system is required to assess traffic density regularly and take appropriate action. Even though separate lanes are available for various vehicle types, wait times for commuters at traffic signal points are not reduced. The proposed methodology employs artificial intelligence to collect live images from signals to address this issue in the current system. This approach calculates traffic density, utilizing the image processing technique YOLOv4 for effective traffic congestion management. The YOLOv4 algorithm produces better accuracy in the detection of multiple vehicles. Intelligent monitoring technology uses a signal-switching algorithm at signal intersections to coordinate time distribution and alleviate traffic congestion, resulting in shorter vehicle waiting times.

Opis:
In many discourses, popular as well as scientific, it is suggested that the "massive" use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), including Machine Learning (ML), and reaching the point of "singularity" through so-called Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and Artificial Super-Intelligence (ASI), will completely exclude humans from decision making, resulting in total dominance of machines over human race. Speaking in terms of manufacturing systems, it would mean that the intelligence and total automation would be achieved (once the humans are excluded). The hypothesis presented in this paper is that there is a limit of AI/ML autonomy capacity, and more concretely, the ML algorithms will be not able to become totally autonomous and, consequently, the human role will be indispensable. In the context of the question, the authors of this paper introduce the notion of the manufacturing singularity and present an intelligent machine architecture towards the manufacturing singularity, arguing that the intelligent machine will always be human dependent. In addition, concerning the manufacturing, the human will remain in the centre of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and in Industry 4.0. The methodology to support this argument is inductive, similarly to the methodology applied in a number of texts found in literature, and based on computational requirements of inductive inference based machine learning. The argumentation is supported by several experiments that demonstrate the role of human within the process of machine learning. Based on the exposed considerations, a generic architecture of intelligent CPS, with embedded ML functional modules in multiple learning loops, is proposed in order to evaluate way of use of ML functionality in the context of CPS. Similar to other papers found in literature, due to the (informal) inductive methodology applied, considering that this methodology does not provide an absolute proof in favour of, or against, the hypothesis defined, the paper represents a kind of position paper. The paper is divided into two parts. In the first part a review of argumentation from literature in favour of and against the thesis on the human role in future was presented, as well as the concept of the manufacturing singularity was introduced. Furthermore, an intelligent machine architecture towards the manufacturing singularity was proposed, arguing that the intelligent machine will be always human dependent and, concerning the manufacturing, the human will remain in the centre. The argumentation is based on the phenomenon related to computational machine learning paradigm, as intrinsic feature of the AI/ML1, through the inductive inference based ML algorithms, whose effectiveness is conditioned by the human participation. In the second part, an architecture of the Cyber-Physical (Production) Systems (CPPS) with multiple learning loops is presented, together with a set of experiments demonstrating the indispensable human role. Finally, a discussion of the problem from the manufacturing community point of view on future of human role in Industry 4.0 as the environment for advanced AI/ML applications is registered.

Opis:
As with the powerful digitalization of the world in the 21st century, maritime affairs, like all other areas, are facing not only new opportunities, but also new big challenges and problems. From the point of view of the development of new technologies, it seems that everything is possible, for example the bringing of so-called "intelligent ships" and “smart ports” into one global system on base of internet of things and big data applications. However, if to look at the matter further, a number of factors and obstacles may appear which could be major threats to the normal functioning of such a system. While it is clear that systems with such high degree of complexity are even technically vulnerable, it seems to the author of this paper that questions that are no less difficult are in the field of human relations. For example, when ships and ports are becoming more and more "smarter" and need less and less people to intervene in their interactions, who at the end will be responsible for everything that can and definitely will happened at sea or in the port? What about liability of cargo carrier if “carrier” is an autonomous ship without any person on-board during the entire journey? How to ensure cyber security? How to be secured against the risks of so-called artificial intelligence systemic errors? It is possible that only new non-trivial approaches can lead to acceptable results in this area, but what they may be and whether these approaches are possible at all - these questions are still waiting for answers.

The study aimed to develop a system supporting technological process planning for machining and 3D printing. Such a system should function similarly to the way human experts act in their fields of expertise and should be capable of gathering the necessary knowledge, analysing data, and drawing conclusions to solve problems. This could be done by utilising artificial intelligence (AI) methods available within such systems. The study proved the usefulness of AI methods and their significant effectiveness in supporting technological process planning. The purpose of this article is to show an intelligent system that includes knowledge, models, and procedures supporting the company’s employees as part of machining and 3D printing. Few works are combining these two types of processing. Nowadays, however, these two types of processing overlap each other into a common concept of hybrid processing. Therefore, in the opinion of the authors, such a comprehensive system is necessary. The system-embedded knowledge takes the form of neural networks, decision trees, and facts. The system is presented using the example of a real enterprise. The intelligent expert system is intended for process engineers who have not yet gathered sufficient experience in technological-process planning, or who have just begun their work in a given production enterprise and are not very familiar with its machinery and other means of production.
