Opis:
The geoinformation software market is becoming increasingly competitive. New improvements and tools are created, which are provided to the users with subsequent updates. Additionally, completely new software is appearing as well. Nevertheless, for the past several years, ArcGIS and QGIS have been the most popular software in Poland. There are many handbooks and manuals describing their possibilities. Both systems offer numerous functions. This does not mean, however, that the results of identical spatial analyses performed in ArcGIS and QGIS will be identical as well. The comparison of the results of such analyses performed on vector and raster data is the main objective of the conducted study. The research demonstrates, that selected analogical tools implemented in discussed systems provides different results especially in the range of spatial analyses performed on raster data.

In this paper, we investigate the upwelling phenomenon using data of 97 monitoring stations in Ouargla and El Oued valleys located in the Low Septentrional Sahara south of Algeria. This research paper constitutes a contribution to the morphological, hydrological, hydrogeological study of the water table in order to understand the processes of upwelling groundwater. By using ArcGIS as a mapping tool, we worked on real UTM coordinates in X and Y for real data overlay drawn maps in clear and usable way of this phenomenon. On the other hand, we propose a new method based on neural network to model the level flctuation of the groundwater as well as to predict the evolution of the water table level. The obtained model allows us to warm this harmful phenomenon and plan sustainable solutions to protect the environment. The finding shows that the obtained model provides more significant accuracy rate and it drives more robustness in very challenging situation such as the heterogeneity of the data and sudden climate change comparing to the related research.

Opis:
The authors of the review aim to understand and assess cartographic Heat Maps' (HM) designs, tools, and applications. The paper consists of two parts. First describes HM in the context of neocartography and map design by tackling such issues as denfiition, input data, methods of density determination and generalization, colour schemes, legend construction, and base maps. The second part assesses the range of 17 tools used for creating HM. Tools are divided into non-GIS tools (visualization tools and programming libraries) and GIS applications (desktop and webGIS). GIS desktop software has been selected due to its popularity and wide application. Paper presents an expert assessment of this software with the use of a research questionnaire. The analysis made it possible to develop a division of tools based on their embedding in computer programs and applications and taking into account the types of visualization. It also made it possible to indicate tools that can be used by both professional GIS users (e.g. analysts, cartographers) and the general public, including teachers using HM to visualize geo data for geography lessons. The limitation of the review was the analysis from the expert's point of view. It would be desirable to include novices perspectives in future studies due to the wide demand for visualization.

Opis:
Planning and marine spatial development are based on an exceptionally wide range of knowledge and information which are used in the process of creating plans and their later evaluation. The first type is spatial data describing the present state of the natural and anthropogenic environment within a widely understood spectrum. Second type data are statistical information describing spatial occurrence in the environment. Geoinformation within a planning process is hugely important, as the quality of spatial data influences decisions made and final results of planning work. Undoubtedly, efficient spatial database management and creating a compatible system to operate it are the key elements of effective work in a planning process. In Europe, the monitoring process together with creation of tools supporting database management is highly developed. There is a range of examples for the use of the spatial information systems in work linked to preparation and evaluation of spatial management plans at sea. Due to the specifics of works related to spatial planning in Poland, this paper presents a new solution for the future monitoring of the generated plans. The nature of this paper is determined by the local approach to taking advantage of the ArcGis software related with the use of a range of tools in the monitoring approach to plans of spatial management of the Polish marine areas. The purpose is to demonstrate a selected tool which is supposed to improve the planners’ work, from the point of view of the use of statistical data linked to the dynamics of changes in the coastal area. This is an exemplary use of the tool which might be modified at will, according to the needs of a user. Due to such a solution, the tool can be adjusted to the most of required data based on statistical tables.
Charakter pracy określa regionalne podejście do wykorzystania możliwości oprogramowania ArcGis związanej z użyciem narzędzi w podejściu monitoringu planów zagospodarowania przestrzennego polskich obszarów morskich.

Prolonged water erosion leads to severe soil degradation, with highly visible scars. Consequently, the quantitative and descriptive estimation by mapping of the phenomenon has become the main objective of a great deal of research. It is this perspective that this study takes, based on the Revised Universal Soil Losses Equation (RUSLE) for a relatively accurate estimate, by integrating Arc GIS tools and remote sensing using high spatial resolution (10 m) image from the Sentinel 2A satellite. The model uses data on precipitation, soil, topography and vegetation cover management. The methodological approach taken implements this model in order to optimize its use by the various potential users in their planning and decision making studies. An application was carried out in the Oued Isser watershed (Tlemcen, Algeria). Soil loss maps were produced and the results indicate a high variation in soil losses in the study area and show that the highest values are concentrated on steep slopes, hence the great influence of the topographic parameter relative to other factors in the model.

SFMToolbox is an ArcGIS Python toolbox developed in ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) to perform preprocessing tasks for the automatic creation of maps of soil fertility parameters. Through SFMToolbox, users can automatically produce 12 soil fertility parameter maps as a batch at one time. It is easy to use, where users can only provide input; the output files are automatically created from the name of the sample point and saved in the defined workspace. During the execution of the tools, various processes, such as Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW) – a technique of interpolation, reclassification, adding color, merging, projection, area calculation, and legend are done automatically for all 12 parameters at the same time. The SFMToolbox was validated as part of the following case study: village – Kashipur, tehsil – Balrampur, district – Balrampur, state – Uttar Pradesh, Country – India. The results show that the user can quickly generate maps and save time, improve accuracy, and reduce human intervention and ensure uniformity among maps. This toolbox also applied to Cycle II data from the Government of India’s Soil Health Card (SHC) scheme and timely produced 12-parameters soil nutrient maps for 630 districts in a uniform format. The toolbox may be used by public and private organizations to make timely decisions on agricultural and environmental issues.

Opis:
This research focuses on the ground water quality index in Ado-Ekiti State, Nigeria. Groundwater sample wells were randomly collected and their spatial locations captured using a handheld GPS. Water samples were taken from 45 wells and their physio-chemical properties were analyzed in the laboratory. Spatial distribution maps of the water quality parameters were then developed. Herein, the Kriging method of interpolation from geospatial analyst wizard in Esri ArcGIS software was deployed in the generation of thematic maps of water quality parameters. A drinking water quality index was subsequently developed to describe the overall quality of groundwater in the study area. Laboratory analysis of 34 wells showed water of acceptable use as it conforms to WHO standard, while 11 wells were found to have unsuitable water for domestic use. The results further show spatial variation in the water quality. The south central depicts poor water quality, fair water quality in the south-east, while the North, north east, north-west down to the south west depicted the best water quality.

Opis:
The paper presents the application of ArcGIS for environmental modelling of the landscapes in northern Iceland (17.00°W–23.00°W, 64.30°N–67.00°N). The aim was to explore the vegetation distribution by NDVI and ISOCLUST classification of the land cover types. Data include the Landsat TM image. Freely available satellite remote sensing data from the Landsat mission have been processed by GIS to deliver information on land cover types from image classification and NDVI vegetation index. Landsat products provide geospatial data on regional scale with moderate temporal (weekly) and spatial (30–10 m) resolution, making them useful for environmental monitoring and landscape studies. The tools include the ArcGIS software used for raster processing. Data processing was performed in the three steps: 1) comparative analysis of the visualized sixteen band combinations to assess the distinguishability of vegetation and other land cover types in colour composites; 2) computed NDVI standardized vegetation index; 3) unsupervised classification of the Landsat TM by the ISOCLUST algorithm. Large glaciers Hofsjökull and Langjökull were detected on various colour composites, and the visibility of the water/land borders is assessed (Blöndulón lake), agricultural areas near the Varmahlíð, vegetated areas around the Akrahreppur municipality. Computing the NDVI and using ISOCLUST by ArcGIS software enabled to distinguish various land cover types and map landscapes in the study area. The computed NDVI shown the presence and condition of vegetation, that is, a relative biomass in the area of northern Iceland. The NDVI was used based on the contrast of the two channels from a multispectral Landsat TM raster data.

Geographic information systems can be used in many areas (e.g. trade, marketing, logistics, public administration, meteorology, forestry, agriculture, environmental monitoring, aviation). Young people born in the era of IT want and need to use and learn new technologies and applications. Students are interested in internet of things, virtual reality, augmented reality, big data and mobility. These technologies create large amounts of information that has to be appropriately captured, ordered/filtered and presented preferably in a graphical from. Nowadays we can observe growing interest in presentation of phenomena/processes in a form of interactive maps that can be created with the use of GIS - computerized systems for capturing, storing and visualizing data related to positions on Earth’s surface. The aim of the paper is to present results of research on students’ knowledge and skills in the area of geographic information systems. The article contains theoretical background of GIS. Presents the course framework entitled ''E-logistics and GIS''. The course was prepared for students of logistic at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Poland. The main part of the article contains the results of quantitative research in the area of gaining knowledge and skills on GIS that were performed in June 2016 on a group of students of logistics. The performed research shows that students associate GIS mainly with maps, location, data processing, they acquire knowledge and skills in the area of GIS watching video tutorials, following the instructions received from teacher and by observing and listening their colleagues. Providing avalanche-threatened areas with modern thematic data mapping is an urgent task. It will allow us to predict and prevent catastrophic consequences of snow avalanches. The purpose of this paper is to create a set of thematic raster maps of Polonyna Borzhava mountain ridge, including a physical map, a map of relative avalanche hazards, and a map of avalanche paths, on the basis of analysing certain morphometric and environmental factors. Modelling and analysing morphometric parameters of the ridge surface were implemented, and they were represented as factors of avalanche occurrence. The areas with consistent snow avalanche occurrence in the Polonyna Borzhava mountain ridge were allocated by combining cartographic material, remote sensing data, statistical meteorological data and some geomorphometric data about the surface in one unified geographic information system. Thematic mapping of snow avalanches of Polonyna Borzhava ridge has been implemented in the scale of 1:50000. The resulting thematic maps can be used when developing winter tourist routes.

Opis:
This paper concerns the register of prices and values (RCiWN) for real estates database modelling, applying CASE (Computer Aided Software Engineering) tools. The paper’s first part contains legal basis and technical guidelines for register of prices and values (RCiWN) managing. The main purpose of researches that had been performed there was register of prices and values database creating. The register’s modelling includes the following stages – conceptual modelling, logical model building and physical model creation. The process of conceptual modelling has already been done before, for the Technical instruction G-5 contains register’s objects catalogue and their relation schema. The logical model has been built according to practically ready conceptual model that is included in instruction G-5. The register of prices and values objects, including corresponding attributes and links among them were created in Microsoft Visio. The UML notation was used. The author’s intention was the register of prices and values database creating with ArcInfo software, so the template from ESRI, ESRI XMI Export tool and SemanticsChecker macro were used. The register of prices and values for real estates were then exported into XML format file, that is semantically correct and corresponds with ArcInfo UML model. The final result of this work is the register of prices and values for real estates database in mdb format, ready for filling with data and possible further processing with ArcGIS software and other programs managing databases. The additional result is XML file that might be used for other works concerning ground and building cadastre system.

Opis:
Public transportation plays a significant role in urban areas, transporting a large percentage of people. There is no existing study dealing with the balance between transportation demand and supply in Baghdad city; thus, there is a need to assess service equity before implementing any major services. The aim of the present research is to study the equity of transit need. The methodology uses geographic information systems (GISs) and spatial multi-criteria analysis to determine equity. Nine criteria were used in this study (land use, population density, commercial activities, medical locations, bus stops walkability, educational activities, bus terminal, and income) to determine a transit need map. Expert opinion surveys are conducted to determine pairwise comparisons between these criteria to estimate the weight of each criterion. Spatial analysis in ArcGIS 10.8 is utilized to apply methodology. The transit need map is obtained, and the need for transit service is represented by a value for each cell. In addition, the map output is important to public transit planning, as it maximizes the optimal transit route selection depending on the transit need. The output of this study (a transit need map) represents a powerful tool for the decision-makers to prioritize transportation programs and ranking alternatives. Gap analysis is used to measure equity between various zones. The results show that the transit supply provides higher service coverages in the Central Business District (CBD) and decreases as the distance to CBD increases.
