Opis:
Background. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a disorder often occurring in women at reproductive age. An important factor in PCOS pathogenesis is insulin resistance, which pronounces hyperandrogenism and leads to the development of various metabolic disorders. Objectives. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of reduction diet with low glycemic index (GI) on anthropometric parameters of women with PCOS and the assessment of the effectiveness of the diet on body mass and adipose tissue reduction. Material and methods. The study was performed on 24 women with PCOS diagnosed with Rotterdam’s criteria. Anthropometric measurements and bioelectrical impedance were performed. All participants received 7-day diet and recommendations relating to the change in lifestyle. After three months of using the dietary recommendations the measurements were repeated. Results. Statistical significance was observed for body mass (↓on average by 5.93 kg±2.95), BMI (↓2.14 kg/m2±1.2), circumference of: waist (↓7.7 cm±5.9), hip (↓4.8 cm±5.4), arm (↓1.9 cm±3.7) and measurements of skin fold under the shoulder blade (↓4.8 mm±4,6), above iliac crest (↓6.76 mm±5.7) and above triceps brachii muscle (↓5.25 mm±7.4). Considering body composition measurements, statistically significant were differences in the measurements of BCMI (↑18.042±8.8), TBW expressed in percentage (↑2.729±2.75) and in litres (↑0.071±5.15), FM in percentage (↓3.291±5.6) and in kg (3.354 kg±4.9). Conclusions. Body mass reduction using a rational diet with low GI is an effective method to support of PCOS treatment. Using reduction diet for three months together with increased physical activity enables to reduce body weight by on average 5.93 kg, which increases the chances to treat infertility in women. This should be the suggested type of diet in PCOS treatment.
Wprowadzenie. Materiał i metody.

The aim of this study was to investigate the anthropometric characteristics of Ethiopian female premier league volleyball players in relation to playing positions. The study encompassed 42 female premier league volleyball players (age: 25.60+6.4 years). The players were categorized on the bases of playing position: including: -setters (n=5), middle blockers (n=7), outside-hitters (n=11), opposite hitters (n=11), and liberos (n=8). Anthropometric measurements such as: five basic, six body lengths, six body circumferences, and five skinfolds were assessed. Descriptive statistics and One-Way ANOVA were used to identify the differences among the anthropometric characteristics of the players’ at different playing positions. Significant mean differences were separated using the Tukey B a,b mean difference test at P < 0.05.The result revealed that there were significant differences in standing height, sitting height, standing reach height, arm and leg lengths among female volleyball players in different playing positions. However, the differences in weight, BMI, body circumferences, and skinfolds were not significant. Up on the results, it was possible to conclude that players’ anthropometry is among the factors that affect success in a game. Considering players’ anthropometry seems to be crucial at the time of selection and assigning of players to playing positions.

Purpose: To determine effect of working in the night shift system on nutritional status, anthropometric measurements, and risk of cardiovascular disease of health staff. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between August-November 2017 at Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University among 111 health staff. Data was collected with a questionnaire form including questions about demographic characteristics, nutritional status and anthropometric measurements. SPSS 21.0 statistical package program was used for statistical analysis and p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Based on waist circumference, 14.3% of men and 31.1% of women were at high risk, and based on waist/hip ratio, 4.8% of men and 33.3% of women were at risk of cardiovascular diseases. It has been shown that eating patterns are disrupted during shifts (89.2%), and 73.9% of participants cannot eat because their meals cool down during shifts. The difference in the numbers of main and snack meals consumed by health staff during the night shift was statistically significant (p<0.05). Body mass index, waist circumference, and hip circumference measurements decreased with increasing shift time. However, body mass index, waist circumference, and hip circumference increased as time spent in the profession increased. Conclusion: It was seen that night shift health staff are at risk of cardiovascular disease due to insufficient and unhealthy nutrition. It is clear that nutrition education programs are required for health staff working night shifts to reduce excess weight and obesity in this population.

Early identification of anthropological potential in swimmers is considered important to the recruitment and selection of children and adolescents to perform extensive and strenuous training. The aim of the research was a comparative analysis of the anthropometric parameters and indicators of adult, elite swimmers with people who had never trained for swimming. It was assumed that the specific characteristics of the swimmers’ somatic composition referred to the laws of swimming biomechanics. Methods: Anthropometric measurements were taken in a group of elite male swimmers (N = 28), aged 17–24. The same set of measurements was taken in a homogeneous control group of students of physical education. An anthropometric profile significantly differentiating swimmers from the control group was constructed. Next, a linear forward stepwise discriminant analysis was conducted to investigate which indices can be used to distinguish the two groups. Results: It seems significant that a specific somatic composition trait of swimmers in the form of a relatively long shank was observed, which had not been observed in earlier studies. Additionally, indices of relatively slim hand dimension, and indices describing a “reversed triangle” shape of trunk, were the most powerful discrimination variables between the two examined groups. Conclusion: The results obtained cannot be generalised to the entire population of swimmers, however referring them to the laws of biomechanics of swimming allows for the continuation of research into identifying the prognostic traits desirable for success among young swimmers.

Opis:
Humanoid robots and humans look alike, and therefore are expected to adjust their posture in a similar way. We analysed a set of human static postures that should be considered for humanoids acting as caretakers. A dynamic situation was studied to learn how humanoids can react in a dynamical way. Human data were obtained with a professional motion capture system and anthropometric tables. The static postures were studied using a segmented human body model, but for motion analysis the single and double pendulums with moving masses were also employed. For robot motion synthesis we need to know the relation between the posture and the postural stability. We have shown that the positions of mass centres of the pendulum segments (which match the human body point masses) are crucial for postural stabilization. The Zero-Moment Point criterion was applied for the dynamic case. The static analysis demonstrates that there are some common features of the postures. The dynamic analysis indicated that both pendulums are good models of human body motion, and are useful for humanoid motion synthesis. In humanoids, it is easier to apply results represented by inverted pendulums than postural models represented by stick diagrams. This is because humanoids and humans do not obviously share the same mass distribution and sizes (proportions) of all body segments. Moreover our descriptions indicate where to locate the supporting leg/legs in single and double support, which in general, is missing in inverted pendulum models discussed in the literature. The paper’s aim is to deepen the knowledge about the adjustment of human postures for the purpose of robotics.

It is an obvious fact, that dimensions of children’s feet depend on gender and age. However, due to the secular trend, as well as demographical changes the dimensional parameters of the feet may change. In years 2007-13 IPS carried out anthropometric measurements in malls in cities of Poland. The project called The healthy Foot Academy was realized thanks to the initiative of BARTEK company and its financial support. 4996 boys aged 1-11 were examined. 7 parameters, having a decisive impact on the dimensions of lasts and footwear, were measured. Simultaneously there were made plantograms, in which the Clarke’s angle were determined, as well as α,β,γ angles used as indicators of the foot shape.
W latach 2007-13 IPS przeprowadził pomiary antropometryczne w galeriach handlowych, w miastach Polski. Projekt Akademia Zdrowej Stopy został zrealizowany dzięki inicjatywie firmy BARTEK i jej wsparciu finansowemu.

Background. Low birth weight (LBW) is an important predictor of neonatal morbidity and mortality. It reflects the nutritional status of the mother and the quality of health care services during pregnancy. Objective. The objective of this study is to determine the factors associated with low birth weight of children born to Moroccan pregnant women in the province of El Jadida. Material and Methods. This cross-sectional case-control study was carried out in the maternity ward of El Jadida provincial hospital on 344 parturient women, half of whom had given birth to children with an LBW and the other half of children with normal weight (NW) at birth. Information on maternal gestational and socioeconomic characteristics as well as eating habits was collected using a questionnaire and anthropometric measurements were taken on the newborns. Results. The study identified 172 parturient who gave birth to newborns with LBW and 172 parturient who gave birth to newborns of NW. The proportions of LBW are greater in first-time mothers (50.6%) and professionally inactive (86.6%). The mean weight of LBW newborns is 2013.95 ± 372.95g compared to 3380 ± 217.59g for NW newborns. The determined factors associated with LBW are the low socio-economic level (OR = 3.18; 95% CI: 1.09-9.23), insufficient monitoring of prenatal consultation (OR = 2.91; 95% CI: 1, 71-4.95), origin from rural areas (OR = 0.52; 95% CI: 0.30-0.91) and lack of nutritional education (OR = 0.17; 95% CI: 0, 09-0.34). The daily calcium intake in mothers of newborns with LBW is 33.82% of the recommended daily allowance (RDA), the daily iron requirement coverage was 50%, folates 66, 16% and zinc 87.72% of the RDA. Conclusions. Well-targeted and coordinated education and awareness-raising actions on early pregnancy and feeding pregnant women could have a positive impact on improving the birth rate of children with a weight deficit.

Introduction and aim. Childhood hypertension is an important precursor to adult hypertension. This study was used to investigate blood pressure level and nutritional status of pupils in public primary schools that were benefitting from the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme in southwest Nigeria. Material and methods. A cross-sectional study conducted among randomly selected 40 public primary schools where feeding programme was on-going in Oyo and Ogun States. Pretested semi-structured questionnaire was used to obtain information from the pupils. Anthropometric measurements and blood pressure readings were assessed using relevant tools. Results. Some of the pupils (129; 41.6%) aged 10-15 years (p<0.0001) were stunted compared to those aged 5-9years (60; 11.3%). Undernutrition among pupils aged 10-15 years was 47.7%, which was significantly higher than (p<0.0001) among pupils aged 5-9 years, 18.5%. Overall, prevalence of hypertension among the pupils was 6.0%. No significant difference between male and female groups with regards to MUAC (p=0.115), blood pressure (p=0.302) and BMI-for-age (p=0.100). A significant association found between blood pressure and BMI-for-age (p=0.004). Conclusion. Prevalence of blood pressure among the pupils assessed suggests more presence of high blood pressure in the population of primary school pupils. School feeding programme could be an avenue to improve nutritional indices among the pupils.

The purpose of this study was to develop a body characteristic index (BCI) based on the distribution of maximal oxygen uptake per body mass (VO2max/mass), body surface area per body mass (BSA/mass), and percentage of body fat (Fat%) to evaluate the relative level of individual physiological responses to heat strain in a group of workers. BCI was based upon the data obtained from 10 males and 10 females exercising for 60 min on a treadmill at 2 relative exercise intensities of 25% and 45% VO2max in mild, warm wet, and hot dry climate condition, separately. BCI was developed into 2 formulas, which were proved to be better predictors for heat strain responses than each individual characteristic, and more sensitive than body type to describe the distributions of individual characteristics and distinguish the differences in physiological responses to heat.

Opis:
The aims of the study were to assess whether commonly used anthropometric indices are associated with body fat measures obtained by Bioel ectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) method, and to determine the best anthropometric predictor of BIA - based body fat percentage (%Fat) and visceral fat rating (VFR) in elderly women. The sample consisted of 24 women aged 80 years and older, the residents of long - term care facilities in Upper Silesia (Poland). All women were subjected to standard anthropometric measurements including the following variables: body weight, body height, waist circumference, hip circumference and neck circumference. On the basis o f these measures Body Mass Index (BMI) as well as waist - to - hip ratio (WHR) were calculated. The subjects’ %Fat and VFR were determined by body composition analyzer TANITA BC 420MA (Japan). Pearson’s correlation coefficients were used to quantify the relati onships between variables. Stepwise multiple regression analysis with backward elimination was performed to identify possible predictors. The basic characteristics of the investigated subjects were as follows (mean±SD): age - 85.5±3.7 years; body weight - 60.4±11.6 kg; body height - 150.6±7.6 cm; BMI - 26.6±4.6 kg/m 2 ; %Fat - 31.3±9.6%; VFR - 10.7±2.5. Both of BIA - based measures significantly, positively correlated with body weight, BMI and circumferences of waist, hip and neck (r values from 0.477 to 0.835) . The multiple regression analysis for %Fat revealed that the body weight was the only variable statistically significant (r 2 =0.414; p<0.001; SEE =7.503%), and for VFR the significant β coefficients were obtained for BMI and neck circumference ( 0.625±0.133 and 0.341±0.133, respectively) ( r 2 =0.754; p<0.001; SEE =1.313). Among popular anthropometric indices of body composition in the oldest old group o f women, body weight seems to be the best predictor of body fat percentage, and VFR could be predicted by BMI along with a neck circumference.

Opis:
Swoistością człowieka odróżniającą go świata zwierzęcego jest mowa. W celu prześledzenia ewolucji zdolności mówienia wśród naczelnych wykonano pomiary trójkąta górno-twarzowego trzewioczaszki według Martina i Sallera(1957), określającego rozmieszczenie narządów odpowiedzialnych za artykulację dźwięków w formie głosek.Opracowanie matematyczne dotyczyło m.in. statystyki opisowej pomiarów zilustrowanej wykresami pudełkowymi.
The specific feature of humans, that distinguishes them from the animal world, is the speech. The speech is a form of communication in which we use comprehensive signs to express verbally ourselves and the surrounding reality. This definition imposes the opinion that the origin of the speech can be considered from the appropriately high level of the brain development. In order to trace the evolution of the ability to speak among the Primates, the measurements of the superofacial triangle of the splanchnocranium, according to Martin and Saller (1957), were carried out. The triangle characterises the distribution of the organs responsible for articulation of the sounds. The mathematical analysis concerned i.a. the descriptive statistics of the measurements, illustrated with the bar charts. On this basis, the Mahalanolobis distances between the examined taxons of primates were measured and presented graphically in form of the discriminant analysis. The applied model helped to divide entirely the monkey and apes from the Hominidae, and to form two clusters of taxons.  The conclusion is that the ability to speak is a sign of a quality change in the evolution of the Primates that led to the Homo sapiens form. Animals do not use such a wide spectrum of recognizing the surrounding reality and their interactive communication is based on the experience and instinct.

Opis:
This research is aimed to produce instrumental test as well as anthropometric, biometric measurement and swimming skill with equation model and software. The instrument is used to identify the skill of swimming athletes. The kind of research used is quantitative with development model approach. The sample is taken using quota sampling technique involving 60 people (30 males and 30 females) for the first testing, and 120 people (60 males and 60 females) for second testing. Thus, the total samples include 180 people. The data is analyzed using factor and discriminant analysis with the help of the SPSS software. The result in the period-1 shows that there are 16-item instrumental tests for male and female. The result for period-2 is using factor analysis with the amount 0.60 and contained 16 instrumental items for male and 14 instrumental tests for female participants. The result for period-3 using factor and discriminant analysis is obtained 12 instrumental tests for both males and females. The software that is obtained is FASTI (Fahrur Rozi Swimming Talent Identification).
Niniejsze badania mają na celu opracowanie testu instrumentalnego, a także pomiaru antropometrycznego, biometrycznego i umiejętności pływania za pomocą modelu równania i oprogramowania. Test instrumentalny służy do określenia umiejętności pływaków sportowych. Zastosowane oprogramowanie to FASTI (Fahrur Rozi Swimming Talent Identification).
