Opis:
The Android operating system (OS) has become the dominant smart phone OS in recent years due to its accessibility, usability and its open-source philosophy. Consequently, this has also made it a popular target for attackers who aim to install malware on Android devices and take advantage of Android’s coarsegrained, non-revoking permission system. This project designs, implements and evaluates a security tool named COMBdroid, which addresses these security concerns in Android by enforcing fine-grained, user-defined policies. COMBdroid modifies an application before installation, allowing it to override points of security vulnerabilities at run-time. As a proof of concept we have implemented three policies in COMBdroid. This paper documents the development process of COMBdroid, deriving design decisions from the literature review, detailing the design and implementation, and proving the program’s effectiveness through evaluation.

Opis:
Malware is a shorthand of malicious software that are created with the intent of damaging hardware systems, stealing data, and causing a mess to make money, protest something, or even make war between governments. Malware is often spread by downloading some applications for your hardware from some download platforms. It is highly probable to face with a malware while you try to load some applications for your smart phones nowadays. Therefore it is very important that some tools are needed to detect malware before loading them to the hardware systems. There are mainly three different approaches to detect malware: i) static, ii) dynamic, and iii) hybrid. Static approach analyzes the suspicious program without executing it. Dynamic approach, on the other hand, executes the program in a controlled environment and obtains information from operating system during runtime. Hybrid approach, as its name implies, is the combination of these two approaches. Although static approach may seem to have some disadvantages, it is highly preferred because of its lower cost. In this paper, our aim is to develop a static malware detection system by using text categorization techniques. To reach our goal, we apply text mining techniques like feature extraction by using bag-of-words, n-grams, etc. from manifest content of suspicious programs, then apply text classification methods to detect malware. Our experimental results revealed that our approach is capable of detecting malicious applications with an accuracy between 94.0% and 99.3%.

We present a design of a Mobile Grid Resource Management System aimed at integrating mobile resources to an existing Grid infrastructure, while creating a platform for interoperability with telecommunications providers. In order to reduce the load on an existing infrastructure, we separate responsibilities and run additional features on mobile resources. Finally we present the Ikaros-EG implementation, IkarosM android application and the mobile-Grid concept. The system used for our implementation was the NCSR “Demokritos” ZEUS computer Cluster, where the Ikaros-EG framework consisting of a meta-data collector and the Ikaros-EG plug-in has been installed. The ZEUS cluster has local and Grid access to data and meta-data from numerous scientific experiments. Our objective was to incorporate the mobile resources using the NCSR Demokritos campus wireless infrastructure in order to run applications concerning accounting, statistics, or further data/meta-data formatting.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to offer a close reading of the 2018 science fiction video game Detroit: Become Human which, despite its promising and novel narrative, offers a simple and otherwise familiar narrative of conscious androids who gradually begin the fight for emancipation from their human creators and owners. However, offering a complex branching narrative with multiple endings affected by the player’s choices, the game encourages the discussion on the relationship between the player and the game system, furthermore drawing on the posthuman and transhuman theories, the concepts of Donna Haraway’s cyborg (1999) and the postmodern identities theories. On the narrative level the android characters will be scrutinized as embodying the humanist underpinning, especially when contrasted with the human characters who are lacking the agency and the self-consciousness. Furthermore, on the non-diegetic level, the game strategies will be shown as influencing the player who, in contact with the game is allowed to experiment with their identities, and, furthermore, to explore the transhumanist and postmodern identities.

Nowadays, there is a common tendency to seek simpler and faster solutions that could be used in a process of software development. At the same time two other trends can be observed - rapid increase of mobile applications popularity and introducing IT concepts to non-IT specialists. This is why App Inventor 2 is one of the tools that software development community is interested in. The goal of this paper is to verify the possibility of using App Inventor as a tool for creating personal applications and compare it with possibilities given by Java, which is a native environment for Android platform. Comparison was based on application for managing personal text notes which was created in both solutions. The application had the same layout as well as analogical code, and it was the subject of performance tests followed by a survey. Performance test revealed that both implementations provided efficiency which is good enough for everyday use and small size personal applications. Survey participants preferred application built in Java due to its better responsiveness and visual appearance. Concluding, current shape of App Inventor, makes it useless for professionals, but useful for non-IT specialists for creating personal applications.

Opis:
As android robots become increasingly sophisticated in their technical as well as artistic design, their non-verbal expressiveness is getting closer to that of real humans. Accordingly, this paper presents results of two online surveys designed to evaluate a female android’s facial display of five basic emotions. Being interested in intercultural differences we prepared both surveys in English, German, as well as Japanese language, and we not only found that in general our design of the emotional expressions “fearful” and “surprised” were often confused, but also that Japanese participants more often confused “angry” with “sad” than the German and English participants. Although facial displays of the same emotions portrayed by the model person of Geminoid F achieved higher recognition rates overall, portraying fearful has been similarly difficult for her. Finally, from the analysis of free responses that the participants were invited to give, a number of interesting further conclusions are drawn that help to clarify the question of how intercultural differences impact on the interpretation of facial displays of an android’s emotions.
