Opis:
The article aims to synthetically present the idea of priesthood in the Praise of the Ancestors (Sir 44–49), a text that contains a theological reflection and description of selected characters in the biblical story from the point of view of a sage living at the turn of the 3rd-2nd centuries BC. First, the successive stages of history depicted by Ben Sira and their possible connections to priesthood are outlined. Then, priesthood as viewed by Ben Sira was presented using specific examples of individuals known from the history of biblical Israel (Aaron, Phinehas, David, Samuel, Joshua son of Jehozadak). However, kings from the Davidic dynasty no longer reigned after the Babylonian exile, even though the sage compares the governor Zerubbabel, who came from the House of David, with the high priest Joshua, son of Jehozadak. The sign of the covenant, however, remained the high priest. Anonymous references to women in the Praise of the Ancestors also feature references to the reality of the cult. Closing the Praise of the Ancestors, Adam is a type of priest that foreshadows the story’s culmination in the description of the high priest Simon II (Sir 50:1–21). The priesthood in Ben Sira’s view is the keystone that connects the past to the present.

The Praise of Ancestors
Opis:
The Praise of the Ancestors (Sir 44–49) offers an interpretation of the story of Biblical Israel as seen through the eyes of Ben Sira. His telling of this story, permeated with God’s working, contains the names of male protagonists only. Still, analysis of textual versions of the Praise of the Ancestors (Hebrew, Greek and Syriac) enables us to detect some anonymous allusions to women (Sir 46:13; 47: 6.19; 48:19, 49:7). The present article attempts to investigate the reasons why there are no named references to Biblical heroines from Israel’s history, individuals who are mentioned in other books of the Bible. One answer might be found in the particular focus and educational purpose of the Praise, which was to provide a life model for young boys. Another reason might lie in the genre of the Praise, which was used in reference to women in Greek texts, but not in the Bible, where the name lists of praised heroes contained male names only. However, the most convincing reason for the absence of female names in the Praise of the Ancestors is found in its association with the priesthood of Biblical Israel. For the writer of the book, true high priests of the Jerusalem Temple constituted the ultimate keystone of the covenant between God and his people. Women, being absent from the official priesthood of Israel, are consequently absent from Sir 44–49.

Opis:
The article deals with the position of Senwosret I in the royal ideology of Hatshepsut and Thutmose III. Innovations introduced by this king to the architecture, as well as new motifs of decoration that appeared for the first time during the reign of Senwosret I, were not copied by other rulers for a long time. The Thutmoside co-regents were the first to reproduce or to exploit them purposely in their own constructions. The particular role of Senwosret I was also attested in the cult of this royal ancestor performed during the reign of Hatshepsut and Thutmose III, both on the official and private level. The study shows that Hatshepsut and Thutmose III emphasised those elements of Senwosret I activity which had a direct connection with the concept of kingship and its renewal, and referred to the time of renewal of the sacred landscape of Egypt and the regeneration of the sacred kingship, namely the whm mswt era – initiated by Amenemhat I, but continued and completed by Senwosret I.

Opis:
The Nomad’s Star is undoubtedly the most prominent poem of Bair Dugarov. Having appeared in the critical time of post-Soviet searching of selfidentification among the Buryats, the poem instantly gained popularity. In this article, I argue that the poem The Nomad’s Star becomes the guiding light for the modern generation of Buryats after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Dugarov calls upon his contemporaries not to forget the nomadic principles of the ancestors. He employs such motifs and artistic images which reproclaim the ideas of lineage continuation, the ancestors’ cult, and harmony in the family – values that are relevant and vital at all times. I close read the poem The Nomad’s Star and outline main cultural concepts depicted in it, such as “route,” “hearth,” “lineage,” and others, which promote the revival of ethnic consciousness in the memory of the Buryats. I support my argumentation with the words of the poet himself and literary critics’ opinions. The public discourse and social network materials devoted to The Nomad’s Star are also called upon, evidencing the poem’s role and significance in contemporary Buryatia.

Opis:
W artykule poniżej można wyróżnić dwa tematy: Pierwszy to próba innego spojrzenia na znane fakty z jej biografii: - starania o członkostwo Akademii Nauk (nie antyfeminizm, a raczej ksenofobia), - francuska wojskowa służba radiologiczna (poziom techniczny a zastosowania praktyczne), - cena radu (rola rynku). Drugi temat to przedstawienie nieznanych lub mało znanych, faktów z życiorysu Marii: - jej praca we Włoszech w 1918 r. w poszukiwaniach złóż rud uranu i oznaczaniu zawartości radonu w źródłach wód mineralnych, - podróż do Brazylii, - mniej znane fakty z życia jej przodków (dziadkowie, stryj Zdzisław).
In the paper below one can distinguish two subjects. First is an attempt of another viewpoint in the well known events in the biography of Maria Skłodowska-Curie: - her attempts to enter the Academy of Science (not antifeminism but xenophobia), - French military radiology (technical level and practical application), - the price of radium (variation with time). Other subject is presentation of some unknown or less known facts from Maria biography: - her work in Italy in 1918 in searching the uranium ore and determining of radon content in mineral waters, - her trip to Brasil, - her ancestry (grandparents, uncle Zdzisław).

Caleb (son of Iepphonne)
Opis:
Caleb is a secondary character in several episodes of the Exodus as well as the conquest of the Promised Land (Numbers 13–14; Josh 14:6-14). Praise of the Ancestors (Syr 44–49) contains a presentation of the biblical history of ancient Israel as the history of the covenant and a place of God's intervention. Sirach presents, according to his own criteria, the most relevant and positive characters of this history. Caleb in Sirach’s description (46:7-10) is a faithful scout, who, together with Joshua, in the face of the rebellion of the Israelites, bears witness to an exemplary trust in God and encourages the Israelites to follow his lead. His courage and faithfulness are rewarded by receiving an inheritance of the piece of land in the Promised Land, which then becomes the property of his offspring. In the brief account of Sirach, Caleb has become a timeless example of the wise man – a sage who lives according to the word of God and encourages others to take up this challenge.
