Opis:: Over the recent years, rural space has been a subject to continuous changes, both at the structural and qualitative level. The way Polish rural areas look today results from long-lasting changes determined not only by historical, but also social or economic factors. The areas currently face a number of problems, including unfavourable ownership structure. The purpose of the study was the analysis of the spatial structure of agricultural parcels, and the assessment of its effect on the possibilities of development of selected study areas. Spatial analyses were performed, providing the basis for the determination of the urgency of conducting arrangement-agricultural works with the most considerable impact on the development of the areas. Two rural areas were selected for the study: Jabłonów in Brzeźnica commune, Żagański County, Lubuskie Voivodship, and Gardzienice Pierwsze in Piaski commune, Świdnicki County, Lubelskie Voivodship. The areas, like the voivodships in which they are located, are distinguished by a completely different agrarian structure. According to data of the Central Statistical Office, in Lubelskie Voivodship farms reach an average size of 7.57 ha, and in Lubuskie Voivodship – 20.75 ha. Study areas selected this way permitted the presentation of various problems resulting from the ownership structure of land, and a proposal of the rearrangement of the space for the purpose of sustainable development.

Opis:: There are low levels of farm mechanization in South Africa despite government efforts to improve access to infrastructure and finance through the Comprehensive Agricultural Support Programme (CASP). The objective of this study is to assess the levels of mechanisation in the emerging sector and the determinants thereof. The sample size consisted of 163 randomly selected maize and sunflower emerging farmers in North West Province. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to assess level of mechanization and the Tobit regression model was used to analyze factors that influence usage of farm machinery. The study revealed that variables including land tenure (p < 0.05), financial assistance (p < 0.01), access to loans (p < 0.05), and accessibility to road infrastructure (p < 0.01) positively influenced usage of mechanization. In addition, the variable age (p < 0.01) had a negative statistically significant influence on farm mechanization. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that the government should consider scaling up the CASP to finance more farmers and review its land reform policy to ensure ownership of land to more young smallholder farmers who can use mechanization services for efficient agricultural production.

Opis:: In this work research into real costs of technical service of cereal combine harvesters were undertaken. On the example of the Claas cereal combine harvesters firms costs of the repairs carried in the during their of exploitation were estimated. Obtained results show lower values of real costs of the repairs in comparison with the values of calculation of these costs.
Przedstawiona praca ma charakter poznawczy. Jej podstawowym celem jest poznanie wartości nakładów finansowych ponoszonych w związku z obsługą techniczną nowoczesnych maszyn rolniczych. Na przykładzie kombajnów zbożowych eksploatowanych w warunkach krajowego rolnictwa podjęto próbę oszacowania rzeczywistych kosztów ich obsługi technicznej i porównanie ich z kalkulacyjnymi kosztami napraw. Kombajny zbożowe należą do najdroższych i najczęściej stosowanych w polskim rolnictwie maszyn do zbioru. Decyduje o tym znaczny (56,9% w 1999 roku) i wzrastający udział zbóż podstawowych w ogólnej strukturze zasiewów (Rocznik statystyczny...2000). Ponadto można zaobserwować, niezależnie od typu i wielkości gospodarstw rolnych, powszechny zbiór zbóż oraz innych roślin uprawianych na ziarno i nasiona metodą jednoetapową za pomocą kombajnów zbożowych.
