Opis:
In this study, electric field effect was investigated by dry band arcing test method. ADSS (all-dielectric self-supporting) cables are usually placed on power grids. These cables are affected by temperature and are exposed to many environmental effects such as wind and UV rays. In this study, the effect of water flow over ADSS cable on electric surface erosion on dry surfaces was investigated by electric arcing method, according to IEEE 1222 standard and the electric field intensity at the surface and the electric potential distribution were analyzed using the finite element method.

Opis:
Carbon nanotube (CNT)-, carbon black (CB)-filled fluoroelastomer (FE) and unfilled FE compounds were prepared (CNT/FE, CB/FE and FE). The oil-based drilling mud (OBD) aging resistance of these elastomers were assessed by tests of atomic force microscopy (AFM), optical microscopy and X-ray diffractometry (XRD). Weight gain, swelling and hardness were also determined. The whole conclusion is that CNT/FE can be used as O-rings in OBD drilling while FE and CB/FE can not.
Metodami mikroskopii optycznej, mikroskopii sił atomowych (AFM) i dyfraktometrii rentgenowskiej (XRD) badano odporność starzeniową kompozytów na bazie fluoroelastomeru (FE) napełnianego nanorurkami węglowymi (CNT) lub sadzą węglową (CB), poddanych działaniu płuczki wiertniczej na bazie oleju (OBD). Oznaczano też przyrost masy, stopień spęcznienia i twardość próbek poddanych starzeniu w środowisku płynu wiertniczego. Stwierdzono, że fluoroelastomer napełniony nanorurkami węglowymi jest odporny na działanie płynu wiertniczego i można go stosować w materiale uszczelek w urządzeniach wiertniczych wykorzystujących płuczki na bazie oleju.

Opis:
Composites are materials used for various types of constructions in the automotive industry, aviation, and shipbuilding. Due to the wide use of these materials, there is a problem with their recycling. Such material requires appropriate processing technology, which has been developed to obtain a recyclate with a specific granulation. The use of hand laminating technology made composites with the addition of polyester and glass recyclate with granulation of 1.2, as well as content: 0%, 20%, 30%. These types of materials are exposed to various types of atmospheric factors that affect their durability. Aging is defined as changes in the composite when exposed to atmospheric conditions, such as sunlight, temperature, thermal cycles, water in various forms and wind. This article uses recycled polyester and glass composites to investigate the effect of aging in seawater on their strength properties. These tests can be used to pre-assess the applicability of newly developed materials as construction or protective coatings. They were carried out on a specially prepared station for accelerated tests, with elevated temperature (35ºCC), as well as brine spray imitating sea atmosphere. The method is used to accelerate the aging processes occurring in composite materials. Samples were subjected to cycles of 5, 30 and 60 days respectively. Samples were weighed and measured before and after each cycle. In order to investigate the effect of aging on strength properties, the composites underwent a static tensile test in accordance with the standard for plastics. Studies have shown that as a result of the aging process, the strength properties decrease slightly, which affects the favourable assessment of these materials as constructional.

Opis:
Carbon nanotube (CNT)-, carbon black (CB)-filled fluoroelastomer (FE) and unfilled-FE compounds were prepared (CNT/FE, CB/FE and FE). The compounds were subjected to heat air aging and characterized by tensile test and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis. Results show that CNT improved tensile properties of FE before and after aging. All samples show stress induced crystallization (SIC) during tension. XRD results show that under all conditions, the crystals were in the form of γ-phase. For both aged and un-aged specimens, the degree of crystallinity (Xc) is low. After tensile stretching, Xc  of un-aged specimens increases tremendously, with larger crystal size. Under the same conditions, the order of elongation at break (EL) was FE > CB/FE > CNT/FE. Normal modulus (NM) and tangent modulus (TM) at the same conditions was in the order of CNT/FE > CB/FE > FE. Tensile strength had the order of CNT/FE > CB/FE > FE.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different plasticizing aging solutions on wear resistance and hardness of selected universal resin-based dental composites. Methods: Three light cured (one nanofilled, two microhybride) and one hybride chemical cured composites were aged at 37 °C for 48 h in distillated water, ethyl alcohol solution or Listerine mouthwash. After aging the microhardness tests were carried out and then tribological tests were performed in the presence of aging solution at 37 °C. During wear testing coefficients of friction were determined. The maximal vertical loss in micrometers was determined with profilometer. Results: Aging in all liquids resulted in a significant decrease in hardness of the test materials, with the largest values obtained successively in ethanol solution, mouthwash and water. The effect of the liquid was dependent on the particular material, but not the type of material (interpreted as the size of filler used). Introduction of mouthwash instead of water or ethanol solution resulted in a significant reduction in the coefficient of friction. The lowest wear resistance was registered after aging in ethanol and for the chemical cured hybrid composite, but the vertical loss was strongly material dependent. Conclusions: The effect of different aging solution, including commercial mouthrinse, on hardness and wear was material dependent, and cannot be deduced from their category or filler loading. There is no simple correlation between hardness of resin-based dental composites and their wear resistance, but softening of particular composites materials during aging leads to the reduction of its wear resistance.

Opis:
Paper chromatography is a method that allows rapid assessment of the condition and identification of fuel, water and soot contaminants in engine oil. The paper contains an analysis of the suitability of rapid paper chromatography for assessing the operating quality of engine oil. It takes into account the comparison of physicochemical parameters by classical methods with the quality of commercial paper chromatography. The presented research allowed verifying the suitability of paper chromatography for laboratory evaluation of engine oil quality. It was found that a more extensive analysis of the oil condition is possible provided that the chromatographic separation time of oil dispensed onto filter paper is increased from 1 minute to 40 minutes. Linear relationships were observed between the surface area of the stain core after 40-minute separation and selected viscosity parameters (e.g. kinematic viscosity measured at 40°C). Based on rapid paper chromatography, it was found that reasonable decisions can be made about the quality of engine oil, and thus about replacement or further use of the oil.

Opis:
The field of personal protective equipment (PPE) has led to several high technology innovations. Indeed, improved protection against the various possible encountered risks is looked for, in particular at the workplace. This has generated the development of new materials and new manufacturing technologies, as well as the introduction of new applications for existing ones. However, the remaining challenges are numerous. This paper presents some of the new technologies introduced in the field of protective clothing against heat and flames, mechanical risks and chemical aggressors. It also describes new challenges that are currently worked on, in particular the effect of service aging and the need for testing methods that reproduce realuse conditions. Finally, it discusses various existing and potential applications of nanomaterials and smart textiles for PPE.
