Opis:
The contribution examines three types of intelligences (emotional, social and general) in relation to school performance of secondary school students (N=169). Empirical analysis indicated its zero to weak negative correlations (0.01≤R≤0.30) with factors, dimensions and global emotional intelligence measured by the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Adolescence Form (TEIQue–AF, Petrides, 2001) and weak negative correlations (0.18≤R≤0.29) with dimensions of social intelligence measured by The Tromso Social Intelligence Scale (TSIS, Silver, et al., 2001). On the other hand, the general intellect assessed by the non–verbal standardized Test of Intellectual Potential (TIP, Říčan, 1971) had a moderately negative relationship with school performance expressed by an average of marks in Mathematics (R=–0.39**).

Opis:
The article presents the results of exploring the purposes of using digital tools to support student learning at universities. This comprises some identified types of digital tools and the frequency of their use by academic staff, which varies due to their level of digital literacy. Then the collected data is provided concerning the numbers of academic staff using basic electronic communication methods. The above data were collected in Polish and Czech universities and later compared to each other. The presented study was conducted over the period 2015–2016 within the IRNet project – International research network for study and development of new tools and methods for advanced pedagogical science in the field of ICT instruments, e-learning and intercultural competences in Poland (University of Silesia, Faculty of Ethnology and Educational Science in Cieszyn) and the Czech Republic (University of Ostrava, Pedagogical Faculty). The undertaken research was aimed at recognizing academic teachers’ activities concerning their support in university students’ learning process.

Opis:
Student engagement and retention are major concerns for universities around the world. It is vital to improve student retention by delivering quality education and engaging students in their studies, leading to student success and graduation and integration in the workforce. This study examines a degree of engagement in two Polish universities. The aim of this research was to evaluate and compare student engagement between two respondent groups. Data for this study were collected from 394 university students through selfevaluation using internet-based survey instrument. The differences between the universities were compared according to the current state, target state and, creative tension, describing the gap between a person’s feeling of current reality and target for future. The analysis of the test results clearly demonstrated the possibility to use such an application to evaluate the students’ engagement and, the comparison clearly identified considerable differences between the two university cases.
Analiza wyników testów wyraźnie pokazała możliwość wykorzystania aplikacji do oceny zaangażowania uczniów, a porównanie wyraźnie wskazało znaczne różnice między dwoma przypadkami uniwersyteckimi.

Opis:
In the philosophical-pedagogical analysis of the undertaken issues, some theoretical and methodological conceptualizations have been applied that refer to Paweł Boski’s theory of the cultural identity based on values and practices in bi-or multicultural socialization and Harold J. Noah’s model of the comparison of academic education. The assumption was also made that the research into the quality of life of Polish and Ukrainian university students enables one to learn the way(s) in which students understand themselves, the others and the world - the way(s) anchored in their own experience and culture. The undertaken studies also address the important problem of forming students’ identity in the stage of the so called emerging adulthood. It occurs in the countries where a knowledge-based economy dominates and where the intensive changes both decrease the young’s motivation to engage in adult roles and make the young postpone them.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was to ascertain the level of academic performance in Auxiliary Machinery 2 subject and navigational trip among marine engineering students at maritime university, specifically JBLFMU-Molo, Iloilo City, Philippines. It further aimed also to determine the relationship of the two variables. The researchers used the quantitative research method and employed the descriptive statistics for the analysis of data among the randomly selected participants of the present study. The statistical tools were frequency, mean, and Pearson’s r. To come up with the data needed for this study, the questionnaire – checklist on “Navigational trip” was developed by the researchers. Results revealed that as an entire group, the level of academic performance was “excellent” and the navigational trip was “moderately satisfactory” among marine engineering students. The correlation between navigational trip and auxiliary machinery 2 subject was “positive and significantly correlated.”
