In Jesus Christ, the human person finds greatness, dignity and worth of humanity. This article reflects on the doctrine of the great African bishop, St. Augustine of Hippo and Pope John Paul II. It discusses the truth about Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of humankind. The concept of redemption as represented by the bishop of Hippo is in essence sacerdotal and sacrificial as it is ultimately expressed by the sacrifice of the Cross. The Cross of Jesus Christ manifests the great and merciful willingness of God towards the fallen human person who is the slave of sin. The triple victory of Christ: over sin, death and Satan, restores the human person to life in the communion with God.

The Mae Enga are friendly, hospitable, strong of character and different from the other groups of Papua New Guinea. Through a brief reflection on the traditional world-view centered life and on evaluation of their concept of life, the study forms a foundation for dialogue and inculturation. The material used in this article, beside the literature, is data collected during my research in 2020, via one-on-one interview (30 women and 30 men) and group discussions (10 women and 10 men) from two villages: Par and Yampu). A qualitative method was employed. The findings of the research show that the whole life of the Mae Enga is oriented towards reciprocal relationships with the entire universe to experience abundant life here on earth, within one’s own clan community. Despite the socio-cultural changes that influence their values, beliefs and attitudes, the “life” remains the central value but the ways of obtaining life have changed. The traditional religion is giving space to Jesus Christ the Life, who takes Mae Engans “beyond” their own clan and offers to them a new identity as followers of Christ, Ktaisanya Tata (Tribe of Jesus Christ). The presented reflection creates a space for dialogue between Christianity and culture. Jesus Christ enters the present Mae Enga socio-cultural reality in order to transform it, to offer a new identity and a new dimension in their search. In turn, the Mae Enga offer to the world the “Face of Christ” with its own cultural features and values, with its ways of worship and reconciliation.
Niniejsza prezentacja jest próbą stworzenia przestrzeni dialogu pomiędzy chrześcijaństwem a kulturą. Jezus Chrystus wkracza w dzisiejszą rzeczywistość społeczno-kulturową ludzi Mae Enga, aby ją przemienić, a także zaoferować nową tożsamość i nowy wymiar w ich poszukiwaniach pełni życia. Z kolei Mae Enga oferuje światu „Oblicze Chrystusa” z rysami i wartościami własnej kultury, kultu i pojednania. Artykuł bazuje na badaniach antropologów, jak również na wywiadach z 80 osobami: 60 osób wzięło udział w wywiadach osobistych, a 20 uczestniczyło w dyskusjach prowadzonych w grupach. Rezultaty badań pokazują, że tradycyjne życie ludzi Mae Enga ukierunkowane jest na życiodajne relacje z całym wszechświatem, które warunkują doświadczenie upragnionej “pełni życia” tu na ziemi, w kręgu członków własnego klanu. Pomimo nieuchronnych zmian społeczno-kulturowych, które wpływają na ich wartości, wierzenia i postawy, życie jest wciąż najwyższą wartością, ale dzisiejsza młodzież wybiera współczesne sposoby, by je osiągnąć. Religia tradycyjna ustępuje miejsca Chrystusowi, Panu Życia, który obala bariery pojedynczych klanów i daje im nową tożsamość naśladowców Chrystusa; Ktaisanya Tata (Tribe of Jesus Christ).

The Christ the King Church in Gliwice was designed in 1934 by Austrian architect Karl Mayr. It is the only religious building of this artist in our country, which largely determines its value and uniqueness. The construction of the church took a year to complete. Unfortunately, due to lack of funds, the tower was not built, and the rectory was erected with the money allocated for its construction. The unfinished work became a field for the development of various concepts of the tower, but it was not until 2018–2019 that a tower designed by Robert Krawczyk, an architect from Gliwice, was built. The aim of this paper is to present the new tower of the Christ the King Church in Gliwice against the background of its previous concepts, history of the church, the choice of formal and technical solutions and in the light of project-related research. The study was based on the author’s research conducted since 2008, as well as in situ analyses and an interview with the Author of the design of the new tower. As a result, a cross-sectional knowledge of the implementation of the church tower over the decades of the temple was obtained.
Kościół Chrystusa Króla w Gliwicach został zaprojektowany w roku 1934 przez austriackiego architekta Karla Mayra. Jest jedynym dziełem sakralnym tego twórcy w naszym kraju, co już w dużej mierze przesądza o jego wartości i unikatowości. Wznoszenie świątyni trwało rok, niestety z braku funduszy nie wybudowano wieży, a za pieniądze przeznaczone na jej konstrukcję postawiono plebanię. Niedokończone dzieło stało się polem do opracowania różnych koncepcji wieży, jednak dopiero lata 2018–2019 przyniosły rezultat w postaci realizacji opracowanej przez gliwickiego architekta Roberta Krawczyka. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie nowej wieży na tle jej poprzednich koncepcji, historii kościoła, wyboru rozwiązań formalnych i technicznych oraz badań okołoprojektowych. Opracowanie powstało na podstawie badań prowadzonych przez autorkę od roku 2008, a także analiz in situ oraz wywiadu z autorem projektu nowej wieży. W ich wyniku otrzymano przekrojową wiedzę na temat realizacji wieży kościelnej na przestrzeni dziesięcioleci.

Artykuł próbuje odpowiedzieć na pytanie o model katechezy maryjnej w naszych czasach. Współczesna katecheza maryjna powinna być – na wzór katechezy apostolskiej i patrystycznej – biblijna, chrystologiczna, eklezjalna i antropologiczna, czyli wierna Bogu i człowiekowi. Nie może być ckliwa i egzaltowana czy oparta tylko na emocjach i pobożności ludowej. Domaga się pogłębienia biblijnego i patrystycznego, czyli fachowej interpretacji i aktualizacji tekstów Starego i Nowego Testamentu, odwołujących się do osoby Matki Jezusa. Trzeba też sięgać do Ojców Kościoła i wielkich teologów maryjnych, którzy byli piewcami Matki Słowa. Nie wolno również zapomnieć o rozwoju tradycji maryjnej w kulturze i sztuce, czyli o inkulturacji maryjnej. Dobrym tego przykładem jest kult Matki Jezusa na ziemiach polskich, gdzie rycerstwo już w XV w. śpiewało pieśń maryjną Bogurodzica przed bitwą pod Grunwaldem. Nasza carmen patrium to pierwsza pogłębiona biblijnie i kulturowo katecheza maryjna.
This paper attempts to answer the question about the model of Marian catechesis in our times. Modern-day Marian catechesis should be – following the way similar to the Apostolic and Patristic catechesis – Biblical, Christological, ecclesial and anthropological, i.e. faithful and loyal to God and the man. It can not be mawkish and exalted or based only on emotions and popular piety. It calls for the Biblical and Patristic deepening, i.e. for professional interpretation and revision of the texts of the Old and New Testament that refer to the person of Jesus’s Mother. We should also go to the Fathers of the Church and the great Marian theologians who were eulogists of the Mother of the Word, nor we must forget about the development of Marian tradition in art and culture, i.e. about Marian inculturation. A good example of this is the cult of Jesus’s Mother in the polish lands where knights, as early as in the 15th century, sang a Marian song Bogurodzica (Mother of God) before the Battle of Grunwald (First Battle of Tannenberg). Our Carmen Patrium is the first Biblically and culturally deepened Marian catechesis. Keywords

One of the most important problems of Polish Catholic community of faith at the present time is the idea of the enthronement of Christ the King of Poland – very well known, and yet controversial. This pastoral and spiritual movement, for the first time in the history of the Catholic Church in Poland, seems to divide seriously the Polish Catholic community into two parts: those who are almost fanatical followers of this idea claiming that only the enthronement of Christ the King will save the modern world from darkness, and on the other hand a serious opposition towards this group, that is the environment treating the very enthronement as a serious element of darkness within the Catholic family in Poland. Perhaps, an analysis and practical pastoral application of the idea of leading Christ onto man’s spiritual peak which was presented by blessed John Henry Newman in his writings will be a sort of rescue in this dispute.
Jednym z ważniejszych problemów wspólnoty katolickiej w Polsce jest bardzo popularna w tym czasie i w pewnym sensie kontrowersyjna idea Intronizacji Chrystusa na Króla Polski. Ten ruch duchowy i duszpasterski, pierwszy raz w ciągu długiej historii Kościoła katolickiego nad Wisłą, wydaje się poważnie dzielić polskich katolików jakby na dwa stronnictwa: tych, którzy niekiedy wydają się być prawie fanatykami powyższej idei, sądzącymi, że jedynie Intronizacja Chrystusa może wybawić nowożytność z jej ciemności; oraz mocna opozycja wobec tego typu myślenia, która właśnie pomysł Intronizacji traktuje jako poważną ciemność teologiczną wewnątrz katolickiej rodziny w Polsce. Być może do rozwiązania tej trudnej dysputy teologicznej przyczyni się analiza i praktyczne, duszpasterskie zastosowanie poprzednio istniejącej już idei intronizacji Chrystusa na szczyt duszy ludzkiej, która przedstawiona została w duchowych pismach błogosławionego Johna Henry‘ego Newmana.

Mark the Hermit is one of the most important theoreticians of ascetic life in the ancient Church. In his ascetic writings, he takes up a number of subjects, including teaching about freedom and grace. This is not a systematic doctrine, but rather statements scattered in his works, occasional, often similar to each other. “Freedom” is defined by St. Mark the Hermit by the term ἐλευθερία, while “grace” – by the term χάρις. He also reminds us that freedom is given to man by Christ; man also receives it in the sacrament of baptism, because it frees him from the burden of sin. Grace, in turn, is presented by Mark the Hermit always as a gift from God given to man. Therefore, the Kingdom of Heaven is a gift, and not a reward for deeds, and the salvation that we receive from Christ is also grace. St Mark the Hermit’s teaching on freedom and grace certainly differs from the views of the Messalian sect, whose followers did not want to admit that grace and freedom are given to the baptised, so that they can perfect themselves throughout their lives and become similar to God.

The Author of the paper looks for a key to the theological thought of the Apostle Paul. The fact that it lacks a clear definition results in authors radically differing in their perception, for instance, regarding the relationship between the Old and the New Testament, and as a result, whether or not the Old Testament has a decisive influence on the Pauline thought, continuing along this line: whether the Apostle in his view always remained a Jew, or whether he distanced himself from Judaism. The fact that we do not have a category clearly defining the relationship between the Old and New Testament salvific reality results in an abundance of contradictory opinions. That is also transferred to other areas of the Pauline theology. The interpretation of Paul’s theology tends to be determined by preconceptions, built upon various ways of understanding the significance of the Old Testament, or various relationship to Judaism and its thought. The author of the paper indicates a concept, treated as marginal by scholars, of a new creation in Christ as the key to understanding the Pauline thought. It lays in the background of all themes treated by Paul and connects them into a single, coherent entity.

The essence of the proclamation of the Good News is a call to conversion, which seems absent from the Fourth Gospel due to the lack of any direct reference. The biblical idea of conversion is first expressed there by a call to believe in Jesus as the Son of God; then by the repeated motif of coming out of darkness into the light, approaching and discovering (accepting) the truth; being born of God and the Spirit, approaching Jesus, testifying about him, accepting and following him, and finally glorifying God. This study aims to present this multi-faceted process, whose framework is outlined by John, first in the prologue to his Gospel and then developed in the narrative. The same order is applied in the individual stages of this analysis employing a synchronic approach, which enables the readers to derive the edifying call to turn to Jesus and follow him to gain eternal life from the final, i.e., canonical, version of John’s text.

Jednym z najważniejszych zabytków kultury liturgicznej stróżów Grobu Bożego jest dokument Constitutiones Generalis Capituli Miechoviensis. Jego treść stała się przyczynkiem do podjęcia analizy dotyczącej recepcji postanowień ogólnokościelnych wskazanych przez ojców Soboru Trydenckiego w postanowieniach kapituły, których efektem jest wskazany dokument. Badane konstytucje zawierają bardzo obszerną paletę przepisów, które w sposób bezpośredni lub mniej zaawansowany ukazują ogromną troskę o poprawność liturgiczną w miechowskim konwencie. W pierwszej części przedstawiona została ogólna charakterystyka liturgicznej tradycji zakonników Grobu Bożego. Następnie ukazane zostały wyniki badań wskazanego dokumentu. Przeprowadzona analiza dotyczy jedynie  tekstów odnoszących się do poszczególnych osób odpowiedzialnych za przygotowanie i przebieg celebracji liturgicznych. Obejmują one pełniących następujące oficja: przełożonego generalnego, kustosza skarbca, starszego i młodszego zakrystianina, kaznodziei i kantora. Wskazana tematyka osadzona została w kontekście uchwał Soboru Trydenckiego, co pozwoliło wyciągnąć wnioski o zbieżności dwóch normatywnych instytucji. Wartym podkreślenia jest fakt doprecyzowania postanowień  Tridentinum dla potrzeb wspólnoty. Są one jednak zawsze zgodne z nadrzędnym dokumentem
The subject of this study is a book entitled Constitutiones Generalis Capituli Miechoviensis. The Author talks about the texts, which directly relate to different parts of the rite that in a direct way are connected to the liturgy and care for the beauty of that liturgy, consistent of the reforms made by the Council of Trent.

The christological title Christus totus seldom appears in modern theology. It seems that the reason for this stems from the lack of precise understanding and interpretation of the very title. Therefore, the article: “Christus totus − different ways of interpretation”  is an attempt at the presentation of theological wealth hidden behind it. From ecclesiological aspect, Christus totus expresses the unity of Christ − the Head and Body of the Church. Without covering over the identity of the Divine Person, Jesus Christ must be eternally and inextricably perceived with the Church, which takes over and borrows from its Divine Head new subjectivity. Christus totus, in the anthropological perspective, is a paradigm of the new man. On the one hand, He is the new Adam, a social, corporate being, yet on the other hand, He is a Personality characterized by His total openness to others. Jesus Christ is a man who does not exist for Himself but for others, opening wide the boundaries of His existence. From the cosmic perspective Christus totus is finally cosmic Christ, because He remains in the relation of cause and effect of the entire creation. However, Christ does not fade away in the Universe in any pantheistic sense, but remains in it, being present as the incarnated Son of the Father, performing real transformation of the Universe into New Heaven and New Earth.

The Dream of the Rood constitutes one of the most intriguing products of Old English literature, both in terms of its highly imaginative, heroicised depiction of Christ and the Cross and on account of its numerous Christian and pre-Christian intersec- tions. One of the most arresting issues in it, however, particularly as regards the poem’s cultural background, is its mention of a sorhleoð (l. 67), the ‘sorrow-song’, or ‘dirge’ that the disciples begin to sing once they have placed the body of the Saviour in the sepulchre. Given that there is no mention of any songs being chanted at the time of Christ’s burial in the canonical Gospels, it seems rational to suggest that the anonymous poet must have supplied this ‘missing’ information on the basis of his own, perhaps somewhat antiquarian, knowledge of the burial customs in Anglo-Saxon England.

Artykuł dotyczy polskiej religijności i pobożności doby potrydenckiej, łączącej nova et vetera — elementy odziedziczone po wiekach dawnych oraz zupełnie nowe. Religijność tamtego okresu z jednej strony opierała się na dziedzictwie późnego średniowiecza, z drugiej zaś — wprowadziła elementy nowej pobożności, rozbudowała pewne formy kultu. Artykuł rejestruje różne formy kultu Męki Pańskiej, obrzędowość kalwaryjską, praktyki ascetyczne, pobożność maryjną i obszar hagiografii. Koncentruje się przede wszystkim na polskich cechach religijności potrydenckiej, ale wprowadza także kontekst europejski w celu wskazania szerszych doświadczeń w tym zakresie, zwrócenia uwagi na narodowość i powszechność katolicyzmu polskiego oraz uwydatnienia dialogu z Europą.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest ukazanie staurologicznej wiarygodności genezy Kościoła. Tak postawiony problem został rozpatrzony w trzech punktach. Kolejno zaprezentowano następujące zagadnienia: eklezjalne aspekty królewskiej godności Jezusa (I); eklezjotwórczy charakter wydarzeń na Gol- gocie (II) oraz Pentekostalny aspekt śmierci Jezusa (III). Ukazując wiarygodność Kościoła w jego genezie trzeba mieć na uwadze złożoną strukturę Eklezji: naturalną i nadprzyrodzoną, historyczną i ponadhistoryczną, widzialną i niewidzialną. Właściwe ukazanie wiarygodności Eklezji wymaga zatem dostrzeżenia widzialnych elementów jego genezy oraz poznania i zrozumienia nadanej im przez Boga treści i historiozbawczego sensu.

Opis:
Staying in the stream of the pastoral program of the Church in Poland, which is carried out under the slogan “Gathered at the Holy Supper,” the content of the article focuses on the analysis and synthesis of the documents of the Magisterium of the Church and theological publications on the Eucharistic sacrifice. First, the article discusses the Eucharistic making present of the sacrifice of the Cross as a gift of glorified Christ, and then draws attention to the active participation of the faithful in the Eucharistic making present of Calvary. The context of God’s mercy in the Eucharistic Sacrifice is also emphasized. The climax of the article is the interpretation of the eschatic dimension of the Eucharist, confirmed by the testimony of the life of Christians, joining in the sacrifice of Christ and in his death and resurrection, which result in the perfect joy of the saved in heaven.
Pozostając w nurcie programu duszpasterskiego Kościoła w Polsce, realizowanego pod hasłem „Zgromadzeni na Świętej Wieczerzy”, treść artykułu koncentruje się na analizie i syntezie dokumentów Urzędu Nauczycielskiego Kościoła oraz publikacji teologicznych o Ofierze eucharystycznej. Artykuł omawia najpierw eucharystyczne uobecnienie Ofiary Krzyżowej jako daru Chrystusa uwielbionego, aby następnie zwrócić uwagę na potrzebę czynnego udziału wiernych w eucharystycznym uobecnieniu wydarzenia Kalwarii. Podkreśla się też kontekst miłosierdzia Bożego w Ofierze eucharystycznej. Zwieńczeniem artykułu jest interpretacja eschatycznego wymiaru Eucharystii, potwierdzona świadectwem życia chrześcijan, włączających się w ofiarę Chrystusa oraz w Jego śmierć i zmartwychwstanie, które owocują doskonałą radością zbawionych w niebie.
