Opis:
This article discusses plasma cutting technology and its influences on the quality of the resulting cut. Plasma or a plasma arch consists of positive and negatively charged particles, excited and neutral atoms and molecules. As it contains free particles, it is electrically conductive and thus subject to the effects of the electrical and magnetic field. The basis of CNC machine design is described in the article, which has at least 3 axes (x, y, z), but there are also more technologically demanding applications, such as pipe cutting, profile and cutting using chamfer to prepare surfaces for welding, where these multi-axis devices are frequently used. The principle of plasma cutting and the plasma cutting phase is described in this article. The materials that can be divided by a plasma arc are described in detail, including graphs displaying the dependence of sheet thickness on the cutting speed. The article describes and lists the gases that are used in plasma-arc cutting, such as oxygen, argon, hydrogen and nitrogen. Important components of plasma cutting technology are the parameters that can be adjusted and set before the cutting so that the cut is of good quality. The most comprehensive chapter deals with the influences that affect plasma cutting quality. Cutting quality can be influenced by a number of factors. Everything starts with the proper choice of a CNC machine and a plasma source. The quality also depends on the expertise and experience of the machine operator and the setting of the plasma cutting parameters. This issue of influences on the plasma cutting quality is based on long-term experience in the field of the thermal cutting process.

Opis:
An experimental linear direct current (DC) plasma generator, with stepped anode, stabilized with air/water vapor, argon/water vapor and argon/air vortexes operating at atmospheric pressure had been designed and constructed in Plasma Processing Laboratory at Lithuanian Energy Institute (LEI, Kaunas). It was designed specially the innovative and environment-friendly plasma treatment of organic materials. Three different types of gas stabilization in plasma generator were experimentally investigated and their thermal and electrical characteristics were compared.

Poly Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH)
Opis:
Singeing is a common post slaughtering process of livestock and this has been associated with the introduction of high level of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH) in the meats. There is dearth of information on alternative singeing technology for safe meat. Therefore, this study is aimed at proffering an alternative method for singeing livestock carcass as a post-slaughtering process to reduce accumulation of PAH in meat. An experimental study, involving the use of a singeing device (singeing torch) sourced locally was conducted. Singeing was carried out on a sacrificed goat using conventional methods and the Singeing Torch (ST). Five grams of meat samples singed with kerosene, tyres and the ST were collected from two abattoirs and observed for physical qualities. The physicochemical properties such as pH and PAH were determined using standard procedures. Results were compared with International Agency for Research in Cancer guidelines. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and ANOVA at 5% level of significance. Bright appearances with red coloration for ST singed meat while black patches and dull appearances were observed on meat singed with kerosene and tyres respectively. ST singed meat showed a better olfactory quality, a more neutral PH value and PAH of 7.3 and 3.30 (n/ng), while kerosene and tyre singed meat showed 6.8 pH value, 4.20 (n/ng) and 6.61 (n/ng) respectively with mean of 0.194±0.56, 0.248±0.94 and 0.389±1.21 respectively. The principal PAH compounds in ST meat identified were 1-Methylnaphthalene, 2-Methylnaphthalene, Acenaphthene, Pyrene and Benz(a)anthracene. This study indicates that meat singed with ST had lower PAH contents and better physical quality. The use of device and method that generates no chemical contaminants such as the ST should be encouraged for the singeing process of livestock carcasses as a strategy for the control of chemical contaminants of meat.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to present the characteristics of infections caused by the TORCH complex pathogens, identified as “others”, in women during pregnancy and their influence on the foetus. The “other” TORCH pathogens include: Treponema pallium, Listeria monocytogenes, Parvovirus B19, Varicella zoster virus, Measles virus, Myxovirusparotitis, influenza virus, viruses such as: HIV,HCV,HBC and also Chlamydia trachomatis. These pathogens are not only responsible for developing certain clinical symptoms in pregnant women but they also have a significant influence on child’s health and might be the cause of congenital disorders in infants. The consequences of TORCH infections may be visible in children directly after the birth, during infancy, or become present later, after several years. The most serious consequences are caused by foetal infection during early pregnancy. They may result in severe congenital disorders in foetus or cause miscarriage. Tests and examinations of women who plan pregnancy, and regular checks of the course of pregnancy allow for a proper care of mother and child.
Do najpoważniejszych konsekwencji prowadzą zakażenia płodu we wczesnym okresie ciąży.

Opis:
Low carbon steel material and T-joints are frequently used in ship building and steel constructions. Advantages such as high deposition rates, high quality and smooth weld metals and easy automation make cored wires preferable in these industries. In this study, low carbon steel materials with web and flange thicknesses of 6 mm, 8 mm and 10 mm were welded with conventional GMAW and double channel shielding gas metal arc welding (DMAG) method to form double fillet T-joints using metal cored wire. The difference between these two methods were characterized by measurements of mean welding parameters, Vickers hardness profiles, weld bead and HAZ geometry of the joints and thermal camera temperature measurements. When weld bead and HAZ geometries are focused, it was seen filler metal molten area increased and base metal molten area decreased in DMAG of low carbon steel. When compared with traditional GMAW, finer and acicular structures in weld metal and more homogenous and smaller grains in HAZ are obtained with double channel shielding gas metal arc welding.

Opis:
The study aims to clarify the influence of pre-chamber (PC) configurations on the combustion process in the main chamber (MC) of medium-speed spark-ignition gas engines equipped with an active PC. A constant volume combustion chamber was prepared to simulate the chamber configurations of the gas engines. A high-speed shadowgraph was applied to visualize the torch flame development and the combustion process in the MC. Experiments were done by changing the charged gas in the MC, the number, and the diameter of the PC orifices. Combustion was most accelerated when the PC orifice configuration was set appropriately so that the adjacent torch flames would combine with each other. It was also found that the unburned mixture in the PC, which ejected prior to the torch flame, supported the penetration of the torch flame.
