Opis:
The objective of the study was to compare the sum of actual sunshine duration in Poland, based on satellite and ground-based measurements during the period of 1983-2015. Results from the first group of data were derived from sunshine duration measurements from 44 surface synoptic stations belonging to the Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW-PIB). The second group of data includes values from observations of Meteosat geostationary satellites (SARAH-2 climate data record), provided by the EUMETSAT Satellite Application Facility on Climate Monitoring (CM SAF). The study showed that in Poland, values of linear correlation coefficients (r) between both datasets are high, and range between 0.80 and 0.95. Differences in daily sums of sunshine duration are low, with the prevalence of positive deviations, i.e. slightly higher values for satellite data. The largest positive deviations were found in Tarnów, Zielona Góra, and Racibórz (+0.3 h), with equivalent negative deviations in Warsaw and on Kasprowy Wierch (−0.4 h). Moreover, minor discrepancies were found for the long-term variability of the mean annual sums of actual sunshine duration. However, after 1995, the deviations were insignificant, and averaged 4 hours. Differences between both data series are caused by several factors, including an underestimation of aerosols optical depth (AOD), as well as the failure to consider the type of clouds covering the Sun’s disc. With its high spatial resolution (0.05° × 0.05°), the satellite data can be a valuable source of information, particularly in regional studies of the spatial variation of sunshine duration.

Global Solar Radiation Model
Opis:
Building solar plants with suitable placement in the correct geographic areas by utilizing information of solar radiation is the starting point of an investment projects of a solar energy facility. In these premises, several solar radiation models have been improved in order to estimate the solar radiation at a given location, all around the world. Complete and accurate solar radiation data at a specific region are quite important for the solar energy related researches. A number of formulas and models have been developed to estimate solar radiation for the locations, where measured values are not available. Thus, several empirical correlations have been developed in the literature. In this study, models such as the Angström equation, which is reviewed in literature, are used to estimate global solar radiation from sunshine duration in Turkey. In addition, the solar radiation models were examined at the identified solar radiation regions. This study investigates either the correctness of the model itself or the correctness of the estimation of global solar radiation, based on a set of statistical parameters such as R², RMSE, MBE, MABE, MPE and MAPE.

Opis:
In the course of analysing the annual air temperature in Wrocław (TWr), a rapid change of the thermal regime was found between 1987 and 1989. TWr increased by >1°C, a strong, statistically significant positive trend emerged. The analysis of processes showed that strong warming in the cold season of the year (December–March) occurred as a result of an increase in the NAO intensity and warming in the warm season because of increased sunshine duration in Wrocław (ShWr). Multiple regression analysis has shown that the winter NAO Hurrell’s index explains 15% of TWr variance, and the ShWr of the long-day (April–August) period 49%, whereas radiative forcing 5.9%. This indicates that the factors incidental to the internal variability of the climate system explain 64% of the TWr variability and the effect of increased CO2 concentration only ~6%. The reason for this rapid change of the thermal regime was a radical change in macro-circulation conditions in the Atlantic-European circular sector, which took place between 1988 and 1989. The heat, which is the cause of warming in Wrocław, comes from an increase in solar energy inflow (April–August) and also is transported to Europe from the North Atlantic surface by atmospheric circulation (NAO). These results indicate that the role of CO2 in shaping the contemporary temperature increase is overestimated, whereas the internal variability of the climate system is underestimated.
