The article is going to present the main reasons for which Palestinian women decide to take part in suicide bombing. The brief characteristic of Palestinian female bombers will allow answering the following questions: What makes women to conduct suicide attacks? Is this a kind of fight for emancipation or gender equality? To what extend participating in a terrorist attack is a sovereign decision of a woman and to what extent are they used as a new type of weapon and treated just like a tool?

This paper provides a phenomenology of the suicidal process. It begins with an examination of the self and the breaks that occur within the world that the suicidal individual endures. This includes an examination of suicidal hopelessness, termed in this paper as ontological petrification. It follows with the role in which hope plays in the suicidal. The paper then turns to carrying out the action of suicide, including a discussion of the suicide note and the developing form of the suicide note as found in live-streams on social media. The paper concludes by describing the completion of the suicidal process, and the persistence of the suicidal drive in the suicidal individual. The paper makes use of suicide notes, video suicide notes, and stories of suicides.

Objectives: Pill-takers seem to have some deficiencies in developing problem-solving styles, in which it plays an important role in their mental health. The present study has aimed to examine the role of problem-solving styles in individuals who have suicidal behavior by taking pills. Methods: This research is a case-control study in which 100 people who had attempted to commit suicide by taking pills and had gone to the toxicity emergency room of the Razi Educational and Therapeutic center in Rasht city, were compared with 100 normal people who were selected as the control group. These two groups of people were compared with each other in terms of their problem-solving styles (which is measured using Cassidy and Long problem solving styles questionnaire). Results: After adjusting the effects of the confounding variables, i.e. level of education, marital status, residential status, history of psychiatry and alcohol addiction, it became clear that pill-takers group in comparison with the control group scores significantly higher in the non-adaptive problem-solving styles i.e. helplessness, problem-solving control, and avoidance styles (P < 0.0001) and also lower scores in adaptive styles, i.e. creative, confidence and approach styles (P < 0.0001). The interactive effects of group membership and gender were not significant in any of the problem-solving styles (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Problem-solving styles are regarded as important risk factors when it comes to attempting to commit suicide by taking pills. Thus, it is essential to teach problem-solving styles to at-risk patients in order to preventing suicidal behavior.

In this article, I raise some questions about two human phenomena—suicide and euthanasia, in which people choose to die, and take steps to arrange their deaths. I am concerned with these phenomena at three levels: With the language that we use to describe and talk about them. With the ways in which the words we use impact on how we relate to those who wish for death or who act in ways that suggest that they do, even if they don’t. With some ethical issues that arise in relation to them. I begin with a discussion of the impoverished language and conceptual landscape of suicide and suicidal self harm, and suggest that this poverty of language is unhelpful, because it frequently leads to the mislabelling of deliberate self-harming and apparently self-harming acts. Through discussion of some problems with the current language, and of some real and hypothetical stories about suicide and acts that resemble suicide, but are distinct from it, I introduce some new ways of thinking about and labelling these most distressing of human phenomena. Later, I turn to the way in which the term ‘assisted suicide’ has begun to be used to label ‘arranged deaths’ that are more properly referred to as ‘euthanasia’. Nowadays, in many countries, including mine, more and more people not only want to have the opportunity to decide on the time of their dying, but want to arrange their deaths with the blessing of the legal system. The wishes of these people are important, because they concern the balance between life and death; between suffering and release; between care and its lack; between the public good and the private will, and between liberty and constraint. Most discussions of ‘assisted suicide’ and euthanasia focus on particular cases in which people wish to die, or on the way in which ‘arranged deaths’— whatever we call them—are viewed and treated legally in different countries. By contrast, I say a little about the reasons for the growing popularity of the term ‘assisted suicide’. En route I try to answer the question ‘When people choose to die, does it matter what we call it?’ I end with some comments about suicide, euthanasia and human dignity.

Opis:
Suicide should be considered one of the most drastic ways of solving life problems by an individual, and today it is increasingly becoming an effective tool for terrorists. Statistics show an increase in the number of terrorist operations, in which the intended effect is the bomber’s suicide, and the number of victims is also growing. The research problem posed in the article is: "How does the need to make sense of the surrounding reality foster the motivation of suicide terrorists?". The hypothesis formulated for the analysis is as follows: "Suicide is the sense-making factor around which most potential terrorist-suicides organize their lives. The factors conducive to forming an attitude of readiness to commit suicide are part of a culture that glorifies suicide, giving it new meanings, attractive to the individual’s personal and social identity". The statistics and literature concerning the issue of suicides, especially those of a terrorist nature, are subject to analysis. According to the authors of the article, suicide committed by a terrorist is not an effect of loss of will to live, helplessness, or depression, but it is a factor that generates important existential senses motivating to act. For that reason, the popularity of terrorist suicide operations and the effectiveness of organizations applying terror as a tool to fight for their goals are increasing.

The paper discusses and analyses the criminological aspect of suicide in Poland in the period of 2014-2019. The first part of the paper introduces classification of suicidal behaviour and terminology related to auto-aggression and self-harm acts. On the basis of statistical data provided by the Polish Police Headquarters, the authors present and analyse the structure and dynamics of completed and attempted suicides in the studied period and show the scale of the phenomenon and its development tendencies. In the second part of the paper, the authors provide a criminological classification of violent death due to its cause. Based on the literature of the subject, the authors then make an analysis of selected deadly methods which by definition are the consequence of the suicidal decision or the consequence of a murder disguised as suicide or simply, consequences of an unfortunate accident. The paper culminates with the analysis of the phenomenon of suicide in Poland based on the Police statistics with respect to the effectiveness of methods used in order to take one’s own life. In the ratio of suicidal deaths to suicide attempts the authors determine the methods which trigger the highest percentage of deaths i.e. the methods with higher level of aggression or higher determination of the suicidal individual. It is also observed that the Police list of suicide methods features new additions.

Lexical Means in Communicating Emotion in Suicide Notes - on the Basis of the Polish Corpus of Suicide NotesPolish Corpus of Suicide Notes (PCSN) is a relatively large set of authentic suicide notes that are linguistically annotated on several levels. In order to identify features characteristic for this genre we compared PCSN with the collected subcorpus of counterfeited suicide notes. In this paper we focus on the lexical means of expressing emotions. Our goal was to analyse ways of expressing emotions in this specific genre. Our initial list of lexical markers was based on Markowski’s list of the lexis common for different genres. The list was next expanded with the help of the plWordNet 2.0 - a lexico-semantic network. The expansion was based on the manually selected noun and verb hypernymy branches according to their correspondence to the elements of the initial list. For words from the extended list, a quantitative analysis was performed for both authentic and fake suicide notes. We have also analysed the use of the lexical markers of emotions, feelings and emotional states, as well as emotion operators, and ways of expressing personal evaluation, affection and hate.

Suicides are a major problem in the modern world. In the literature, they are investigated in their sociological, psychological, health-related, and criminological aspects. The age of the people committing suicide is diverse, with the most vulnerable groups being children and the elderly. Aging is a natural and universal process of life. The changes it causes are gradual, but irreversible at the same time. They involve many spheres of life of an individual. In today’s world, there is a cult of youth, resulting in the elderly not being fully respected by the society. Especially in the urban environment, an elderly person is frequently treated as anonymous and often decrepit. The manner in which they generally conform to the requirements of reality influences their aging in a positive or negative way. Retirement, socioeconomic consequences, reduction of life autonomy, the felt loneliness, lack of support on the part of relatives, and diseases may ultimately push an elderly person to committing suicide. Using the Scopus, Wiley Online Library, PubMed and Web of Science repositories in the current study we have carried out an analysis of research literature from 2014–2015 in regard to suicide risk factors and specificity among the elderly.
Zaprzestanie wykonywania pracy zawodowej, konsekwencje socjoekonomiczne, ograniczenie samodzielności, samotność, brak wsparcia ze strony bliskich i obecność zmian o charakterze chorobowym mogą popychać osobę starszą do popełnienia samobójstwa.

The Hippocratic Oath strictly prohibits the administration of lethal medication and assisting someone in killing him or herself. A significant number of people, however, have felt that this strict prohibition is no longer tenable. They are of the opinion that, in some cases, medicine should help a patient to die peacefully, rather than prolong unbearable and pointless suffering. After discussions of euthanasia had been going on in Europe and the U.S. for more than a century, euthanasia was legalized in two countries, Belgium and the Netherlands, in 2002. At present, there also exist legally sanctioned possibilities for assisted suicide in- besides the Netherlands-Switzerland and Oregon. All these developments have generated an enormous amount of literature on the subject of euthanasia. Given the huge quantity of recent articles on the attitudes of physicians towards euthanasia, a review seemed relevant.

Amelia Rosselli
Opis:
In one of her many poetic motivation descriptions included in her literary works and comments, Amelia Rosselli points to tough-life experience as a factor influencing her artistic creativity. The Italian twentieth-century poet repeatedly emphasizes a direct impact of mental well-being as the driving force of her writing process. A gloomy flashback, hand in hand with a concept, experience, and fantasy, influence the expression of her pieces and structures the literary space. A minor overtoned reference to the grievous reality of Fascist Italy connected with the murder-for-hire of family members, sudden and premature death of her sweetheart and brother, mental illness in the context of the DNA memory, and, finally, the promise of suicide had all impacted noticeably upon the verses of her poems. Another thing worth mentioning is the issue of stress and hardships lived through by Amelia Rosselli’s mother and her immediate relatives just prior to the poet’s birth. According to the latest developments in medicine and cognitive sciences, any psychical damage influences bodily and mental functioning of persons not only directly affected by them, but also their descendants. The linguistic terms applied in the pieces of the Italian poet provoke a discussion of the phenomenon of post-memory. The term, which was proposed by Marianne Hirsch to refer to collective trauma inheritance, has been recently broadened by psychologists to encompass individual memory as well. The fragments written in four language codes (Italian, French, English, and music notation) offer hints to be used in the psycho-emotional analysis of the poet. Additionally, scrutinizing Amelia Rosselli’s nostalgic lyrical pieces, we can discern, by referring to psychological sciences, how the composition-making can constitute an auto-psychotherapy procedure. In terms of interdisciplinarity, the experience of melancholy and nostalgia in Amelia Rosselli’s artistic creativity covers the psychological, social, historical, cultural, political, and artistic areas.

Opis:
Under aerobic conditions, tyrosinase is inactivated by dopa as a result of suicide inactivation, and, under anaerobic conditions, as a result of irreversible inactivation. However, tyrosine protects the enzyme from being inactivated by dopa under anaerobic conditions. This paper describes how under aerobic conditions the enzyme acting on tyrosine is not directly inactivated but undergoes a process of indirect suicide inactivation provoked by reaction with the o-diphenol originated from the evolution of o-dopaquinone and accumulated in the reaction medium.
