    Badania prowadzone wśród dzieci dostarczają wiele wątpliwości, problemów i pytań. Niestety, wiele takich problemów pozostaje nierozwiązanych. Z drugiej strony badania z udziałem dzieci mogą być fascynującą przygodą w ich świat. Są bardzo pożyteczne, gdyż pomagają tworzyć relacje między dorosłymi a dziećmi, gdy nie ingerują zanadto w ich życie prywatne. W poniższym artykule dokonuję refleksji nad procesem badawczym* z perspektywy etyki i problemów etycznych dotyczących dzieci. Moim celem jest zagłębianie się w trudności, ale także w możliwości towarzyszące badaczom pracującym z dziećmi. Artykuł może być inspiracją dla wszystkich, którzy chcą prowadzić badania z udziałem dzieci. Artykuł pokazuje, jak radzić sobie z niektórymi kwestiami etycznymi, które mogą spotkać badacza angażującego dzieci w badania.
    Research involving children renders numerous doubts, problems, and questions. Furthermore, many of such issues remain unresolved. On the other hand, research involving children can be a fascinating adventure into their word. They are very useful, and help to create relations between adults and children, and what is more help children without big interference in their private life. In this article, I reflect upon the research process* from the perspective of research ethics and ethical issues concerning children. My aim is to delve into difficulties, but also opportunities that accompany the researchers working with children. The article aims to inspire researchers who want to conduct research involving children. It shows how to cope with some ethical issues which researchers may face.

    A Rio de Janeiro crossing during the Winter of 2011. Urban, social and economic contrasts and contradictions of a city that is preparing to host the World Cup in 2014 and the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in 2016. The ‘street cleaning’ of cidade maravilhosa: the next sporting competitions and respective ‘showcasing’ will show neither people living on the streets nor rampant drug trafficking. The city seems to look forward to the events while at the same time the common people have different opinions: from hopes of a new opportunity for Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, to fears of new contradictions, speculations and iniquities.

    W artykule prezentuję refleksje na temat badań z dziećmi ulicy. Pokazuję, w jaki sposób jako badacz próbowałam dotrzeć do świata dziecka ulicy i zrozumieć go. W czasie projektu badawczego miałam wrażenie, że jestem turystą (Bauman, 1993) w nieznanej przestrzeni pełnej sekretów i tajemnic. Artykuł jest głosem w dyskusji na temat badań z dziećmi jako uczestnikami badań, którzy wprowadzają badacza jak turystę w nieznany dla niego świat. Przeprowadziłam badania za pomocą następujących metod: obserwacja uczestnicząca (Angrosino 2010), wywiady fokusowe (Barbour 2011) i reportaże zdjęciowe (Sztompka 2005; Banks 2009). Dzieci były moimi przewodnikami w świecie ulicy. W artykule prezentuję doświadczenia prowadzenia badań z dziećmi oraz proces swojego dojrzewania jako badacz świata dziecka. Moja podróż wzbogaciła mnie jako badacza i chciałabym się tym podzielić. Przedstawiam dzieci ulicyjako zaangażowanych uczestników badań, którzy mogą być bardzo pomocni w zrozumieniu ulicznego życia.
    In this article, I present my reflections about research with street children. I show how I, as a researcher, tried to go into child`s word to understand it. During the research project I had a feeling that I was as the tourist in the unknown space full of secrets and mysteries. I took an inspiration to that comparition from Z. Bauman (1993). That the article is meant to contribute to a discourse about research with children as participants who like tourist guides bring us into their world. I conducted my research with street children as participators using participant observation (Angrosino 2010), focus interviews (Barbour 2011) and photo reports (Sztompka 2005; Banks 2009). Children were my guides in the street world. In this article I present my experiences of doing research with children and also how I, as a researcher, matured to qualitative research. My journey has enriched my practice of doing research and I wouldlike to share it. I introduce street children as involved participants of research who are very helpfull in understanding street life.

    The main objective of this paper is to present Polish street children’s situation in connection to their rights. It is based on a PhD project that ran from 2009 to 2012. The phenomenon of street children is increasing worldwide, necessitating new ways of working with and supporting these children. Increasingly, not only material help but also emotional support for children`s choices being put forward. Therefore it is very important to spread knowledge about street children`s life. Research results described in this paper could help educators work with street children. Their life is presented within the legal framework concerning the rights of children. This kind of look clarifies not only street children`s situation, but also possible ways to help them. The empirical material is based on a documentary method, which includes participant observation, group discussion and photo-reports which give to street children the possibility to document their lives. It brings researchers and educators close to children and help to meet their choices and lives.
    W artykule zaprezentowana jest sytuacja polskich dzieci ulicy oraz ich prawa. Opiera się na badaniach naukowych przeprowadzonych w ramach pracy doktorskiej, które trwały w latach 2009–2012. Pomimo odległej daty projektu badawczego, zjawisko dzieci ulicy jest nadal aktualne, co więcej skala tego problemu społecznego narasta. Dlatego tak ważne jest poznanie sytuacji dzieci ulicy oraz wypracowywanie metod pomocy materialnej dla nich oraz udzielanie im wsparcia emocjonalnego. Sytuacja dzieci ulicy jest zaprezentowana w tym artykule w odniesieniu do praw dzieci. Takie ukazanie tego zjawiska może pomóc pedagogom, pracownikom socjalnym i nauczycielom pracować z dziećmi ulicy. Wskazuje drogę towarzyszenia im. Materiał badawczy został opracowany w oparciu o metodę dokumentarną, która zawiera w sobie obserwację uczestniczącą, dyskusję grupową oraz reportaże zdjęciowe. Takie zestawienie metod pozwoliło badaczkom pozwolić dzieciom udokumentować ich życie, zbliżyć się do nich i spróbować zrozumieć ich wybory.

    The text outlines fragments of Georgian Romani and Dom children’s reality through the prism of their everyday life and educational practices. Romani (or Roma) and Dom children are usually perceived by the majority of society as well as by national and ethnic minorities as an identical, uniform group. Their images are burdened with stereotypes and they themselves – as begging participants in public space – have become inconvenient for the majority of the society, hence excluded and marginalized. With regard to social representations, Roma and Dom children can be included in the category of “street children”, children “out of place”, “invisible” children, and children remaining “at the crossroads” of tradition and postmodernity. A portrayal of the situation of Roma and Dom minorities in Georgia reveals the reality of children in big city environments as well as the dimensions of their social exclusion and poverty. The text was written within field research: “The forgotten minorities in Georgia” conducted by the author in 2013 and 2014 in Georgia, South Caucasus.

    W artykule poruszono problematykę usamodzielnienia się młodych ludzi, którzy ze względu na niesprzyjające warunki życiowe mają trudny start w dorosłe życie. Rozpoczęcie niezależnego życia, nawet przy wsparciu i pomocy bliskich, może wiązać się z wyzwaniami codziennego ponurego dorosłego życia. Osiągnięcie samodzielności jest znacznie trudniejsze dla młodych ludzi opuszczających placówki wychowawczo-opiekuńcze (wychowanków) lub młodzieży, która unika kontaktów z dorosłymi i w konsekwencji żyje w środowisku ulicznym. Celem tego tekstu jest zwrócenie uwagi na proces usamodzielnienia się dzieci ulicy. Autorka zastanawia się, czy w ogóle jest to możliwe i na czym powinno polegać usamodzielnienie się dzieci ulicy i co powinno wskazywać na zakończenie tego procesu, kto wspiera te dzieci i wprowadza je w dorosłe życie. To bardzo wyjątkowa grupa docelowa dla opiekunów i pracowników socjalnych, których pomoc ogranicza się do czynności wykonywanych wyłącznie na ulicy. Czy zatem streetworkerzy, czyli pracownicy socjalni pracujący z dziećmi ulicy, mogą pokierować nimi w kwestii uzyskania niezależności? Tekst porusza te problematyczne kwestie, a więc rozważa pojęcie niezależności dzieci ulicy.
    This paper discusses the issue of gaining independence by young people who, owing to their adverse life circumstances, face a difficult start in adult life. Beginning an independent life, even with the support and aid of relatives, may involve confronting the challenges of everyday bleak adult life. Gaining independence is much more difficult for young people who leave educational and care centers (care leavers), or youth who avoid contacts with adults, and consequently live in a street milieu. The aim of this text is to focus attention on the process of gaining independence by the street children. It considers if it is possible for them at all, and what should gaining independence by street children involve, and what should indicate the completion of this process. The paper asks who supports these children, and introduces them to adult life? This is a very unique target group for care providers, and social workers whose assistance is limited to those activities carried out only in the streets. Hence, can street workers, that is social workers who work with street children, guide them with respect to gaining independence? The text addresses these problematical issues, and so considers the notion of street children’s gaining independence.
