The article is focused on issues of the secure operation of official statistics in Ukraine during the application of martial law. It was found that the gaps in conventional sources of statistical data caused by the war needed to be filled with data from alternative sources, including Big Data. The level of digitalisation in Ukraine as the basis for using Big Data was analysed by the proposed indices of internetisation, social progress and digital transformation. Thanks to our research, several problems (methodological, legal, financial, and managerial) were identified as vital for statistical offices on their way to the implementation of Big Data in statistical processes. Our proposals concern tools for Big Data processing, such as Data Hypercube as a way for presenting Big Data for their visualisation, applications of Web scraping in estimating the consumer prices index, analyses of labour and real estate markets, and the applications of specialised software for the collection, processing and analysis of Big Data sets.

Economic processes taking places in the EU markets require systematic changes that will facilitate the international exchange of socio-economic information. All this creates a need for modification of the business statistics information system. System modification is just one element of transformations undertaken by the Central Statistical Office aimed at reforming most of its surveys. These changes focus among other things on exploiting administrative sources for purposes of public statistics. Participation of Poland in the MEETS program offered a unique chance to take steps towards a reform of the present state of business statistics. The results obtained in the MEETS program study was the basis for this article. The objective of the paper was to present the possibility of using administrative registers to short term statistics in the light of DG1 survey.

Opis:
The article concerns ethical rules compiled by both public statistics and users of public statistics. Ethical rules in statistics are partly codified in the European Statistics Code of Practice published by Eurostat, the statistical bureau of the European Union. The implementation of this code is subject to periodical reviews. The second part of the paper deals with various manipulations of statistical data performed by their users. The thesis of the paper states that if non-ethical practices appear, either in public statistics or in manipulations by users, they are relatively quickly denounced. This thesis is supported by some empirical facts.

Terminy ,,zastosowania matematyki'' i ,,matematyka stosowana'' są często używane wymiennie.  Niektórzy jednak nadają im różne znaczenia. Ja wolę ten drugi termin, bo tak określa się tę dziedzinę w większości języków, w nazwach wydziałów, nazwach znanych czasopism, etc. O ile termin  ,,zastosowania matematyki'' sugeruje wykorzystanie wcześniej opracowanych metod, to termin ,,matematyka stosowana'' wskazuje na nową jakość odróżniającą ją od matematyki teoretycznej, nazywanej również niezręczną kalką z angielskiego ,,matematyką czystą'' - Pure and Applied Mathematics, n.p. z nazwy czasopisma Communications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, podobnie Journal des Mathematiques Pures et Appliquees, lub Annali di Matematica Pura ed Applicata, żeby pozostać tylko przy nazwach znanych (i o dużej tradycji) czasopism.
Terms ,,the application of mathematics '' and ,,applied mathematics'' are often used interchangeably. Some people, however, give them different meanings. I prefer the latter term, because it is the name of  this field in most languages, the names of departments, names of well-known magazines, etc. While the term "the application of mathematics" suggests the use of previously developed methods, the term "applied mathematics" indicates a new quality that distinguishes it from theoretical mathematics, also known as a carbon copy of the English awkward "pure mathematics" - Pure and Applied mathematics, e.g. the name of the journal Communications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, like the Journal des Mathèmatiques Pures et Appliquèes, Annali di Matematica Pura ed Applicata, to remain only the names of famous (and with high tradition) magazines.

The Weibull distribution is one of the important distributions used in reliability theory and life-testing experiments. The generalised versions of the Weibull distribution give a more flexible model for these studies. The Weibull–G family of distributions is one of the extended versions extensively studied. In this paper, we have studied moments properties of generalised order statistics for the said distribution in terms of a single moment, product moments and characterisation. Several examples and special cases are presented. The results can be applied to all distributions belonging to this family.

The goal of this study was to establish technical and tactical performance goals for elite male volleyball players (Spanish first division). This paper is the result of scientific collaboration between volleyball coaches and researchers. The process of establishing the goals and the reference values of the performance goals was: 1) conceptual analysis, establishing the criteria for the analysis of players’ and teams’ performance (researchers and coaches); 2) mathematical analysis, data collection and data analysis of the possible performance goals; and 3) practical analysis, establishing the performance goals according to their usefulness and applicability following the SMART principle. Seven performance goals were established to evaluate the technical-tactical actions of the players in training and in competition. Protocols utilized can be used as references of how to calculate the technical and tactical performance goals in sport.

26 marca 2016 odszedł od nas w wieku 61 lat po ciężkiej chorobie dr hab. inż. Zdzisław Józef Porosiński - matematyk specjalizujący się w badaniach operacyjnych, teorii gier I statystyce matematycznej. Swoje wykształcenie i doświadczenie naukowe uzyskła w czasie studiów, a następnie pracy na Wydziale Podstawowych Problemów Techniki. Studiował na kierunku Matematyki Stosowanej na tym wydziale. Po studiach pracował w zespołe profesora Stanisława Trybuły. Jest autorem kilkudziesięciu prac poświęconych zagadnieniom optymalizacji stochastycznej I teorii gier. Jego publikacje na MathSciNet są pod ID:141240. Przez wiele lat był zastępca dyrektora Instytutu Matematyki odpowiedzialnym za kształcenie w zakresie matematyki na Politechnice Wrocławskiej. Jego studenci, współpracownicy i przyjaciele zapamiętają Go jako szlachetnego i prawego Człowieka, znakomitego organizatora, wykładowcę i człowieka nauki.
On 26 March 2016 passed away at the age of 61 after a serious illness, Dr. Hab. Eng. Zdzislaw Józef Porosiński -- a respected specialist in the field of operations research, game theory and mathematical statistics. He received his scientific formation at the Wrocław University of Technology. His MSc and the Engineer diploma was issued by Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technologies where he studied applied mathematics. Then he was a member of the decision theory team led by prof. Stanisław Trybuła. He is the author of many scientific publications in the optimal stopping and stopping game problem mainly. His selected publications reported in MathSciNet are ID:141240. For many years he was the Deputy Director of Didactics at the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, Wroclaw University of Technology. Great colleague, good man. We will remember him also as an excellent organizer, lecturer, and researcher.

How criminological are statistics of justice? How useful are courts efficiency data? How the public and public administration uses abuses this data? Paper is focused on the problems of collecting, processing and presenting statistical data on justice system for the purposes of the system itself, as well as for criminology. It considers five issues: public criminology and public statistics, so called standard criminological statistics, such as recorded crime, suspect, convict- ed, penalties, penal measures, prisoners etc., Polish Ministry of Justice statistics (if they are criminological or not or which of them could be interesting for criminologists) and results of current research of Economic Analysis of Justice Unit in Polish Institute of Justice. It was inter- esting how official statistics concerning courts efficiency are used and maybe abused in public debates, in criminology, criminal policy, and public media.
Czy statystyki wymiaru sprawiedliwości to statystyki kryminologiczne? Na ile przydatne mogą być dane statystyczne dotyczące efektywności sądów? W jaki sposób mogą być one wykorzystane przez administrację publiczną, opinię publiczną i/lub kryminologię publiczną? Artykuł koncentruje się na problemie gromadzenia, przetwarzania i prezentacji danych statystycznych dotyczących wymiaru sprawiedliwości dla celów samego systemu, a także dla kryminologii Omawia on pokrótce pięć kwestii: nurt kryminologii publicznej i tak zwane standardowe statystyki kryminologiczne, dotyczące m.in. zarejestrowanych przestępstw, podejrzanych, skazanych, kar, więźniów, itp., statystyki Ministerstwa Sprawiedliwości oraz wybrane wyniki najnowszych badań Sekcji Analiz Ekonomicznych Wymiaru Sprawiedliwości Instytutu Wymiaru Sprawiedliwości. Szczególnym przedmiotem zainteresowania pozostają możliwości i sposoby wykorzystania statystyk sądowych w kryminologii i polityce kryminalnej oraz debacie publicznej i mediach.

The statistical process is a multifaceted, socially immersed research process. Statistics as a research activity is-and statistics as a product are-influenced by a variety of factors, covariates, and participants/stakeholders in data generation, analysis, dissemination and use. The aim of this paper is to identify and systematize key elements of the socio-cognitive status of statistics and of relations between statistics and society. To this end, a conceptual meta-model of the statistical process, involving an interwoven “logic of method” and “logic of action,” provides a framework for the exploration of statistics from the perspective of sociology. Given that social, cultural, and political conditions affect the quality of statistical products and the status of statistical institutions, sociological study seems especially well suited to dealing with the complexity of the issues involved. To be successful, however, advances in the sociology of statistics are also desirable.

Nutrient pollution such as nitrate (NO3−) can cause water quality degradation in rivers used as a source of drinking water. This situation raises the question of how the nutrients have moved depending on many factors such as land use and anthropogenic sources. Researchers developed several nutrient export coefficient models depending on the aforementioned factors. To this purpose, statistical data including a number of factors such as historical water quality and land use data for the Melen Watershed were used. Nitrate export coefficients are estimates of the total load or mass of nitrate (NO3−) exported from a watershed standardized to unit area and unit time (e.g. kg/km2/day). In this study, nitrate export coefficients for the Melen Watershed were determined using the model that covers the Frequentist and Bayesian approaches. River retention coefficient was determined and introduced into the model as an important variable.
