Opis:
Purpose: This study aims to determine the correlation between death anxiety and anxiety in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Materials and methods: This study has been conducted on the individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who were over 65 years. They received outpatient and inpatient treatment at a hospital. 171 elderly persons that were determined via power analysis were included in the research. Data was collected using a survey form, Death Anxiety Scale, State Anxiety Scale, and Trait anxiety scale. We used the following test statistics: t-test, ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis Variance Analysis, and Pearson Correlation Test analysis. Results: 66.1 percent (113) of the participants are male and 33.9%(58) female; mean age is 726.83. The mean death anxiety score of the participants is 9.044.02. The mean State Anxiety score of elderly individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is 44.81.29; the trait anxiety mean score is 48.851.13. In those chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients, we found a significant (p<0.001) correlation between state and trait anxiety, and that the latter two are high in cases where death anxiety is high. Conclusion: We found that death anxiety and anxiety are high in patients with COPD.

The study was conducted to identify significant predictors of psychological distress in the group of young Polish adults during COVID-19 epidemic outbreak. The web-based cross-sectional survey was applied to 975 Polish respondents (755 female, 77.44%) aged 18-35 years. They were divided into two age groups: younger (18-25) and older (25-35). All participants completed: General Functioning Questionnaire (GFQ), COVID-19 Risk Perception Scale (C-RPS), State Anxiety Inventory (STAI-S), and General Sense of Threat to Life Scale (GSTLS). The Polish adults aged 18-25 years manifested significantly higher psychological distress, state anxiety, and a sense of threat to life, but they perceived less risk in COVID-19 epidemic compared to older participants. Risk perception and a sense of threat to life were indirectly related to state anxiety and psychological distress. Significant predictors of psychological distress in the group of young adult Poles during the COVID-19 epidemic are: state anxiety, risk perception, and a sense of threat to life, where risk perception and a sense of threat to life mediate the relation between state anxiety and psychological distress.

Objectives Anxiety is a negative emotion that acts as a mediator between stress stimuli and emotional (physiological) reaction patterns. The myofascial system is particularly sensitive to stress. The aim of this study was to determine which of the 2 popular methods used to reduce psychophysical tension, i.e., soft tissue manipulation and Jacobson’s progressive relaxation, is more effective. Material and Methods This study was conducted at Gdansk University of Physical Education and Sports in the sports psychology laboratory and the manual therapy room. After performing specialist consultations and interviews to exclude potential participants with contraindications to any of the interventions, the final sample included 90 people who were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 treatment groups. In group I, soft tissue techniques were applied, including the techniques of post-isometric muscle relaxation, elements of myofascial relaxation of tissues, and elastic tissue deformation using the Swedish massage limited to the cervicothoracic complex. In group II, Jacobson’s progressive relaxation was performed. The training consisted of tightening and relaxing specific muscle groups. The experiment was conducted under an ambulatory condition, consisting of a single physiotherapeutic session (group I) or a single progressive relaxation session using the Jacobson method (group II). The level of anxiety was assessed twice, i.e., immediately before and after the therapy. Results According to a repeated-measures ANOVA, each therapeutic impact was effective in reducing the level of perceived anxiety. Furthermore, the level of perceived anxiety in group I decreased significantly more than that in group II. Conclusions In conclusion, both the soft tissue manipulation and Jacobson’s progressive relaxation techniques were efficient methods of minimizing the negative effects of stress. The article describes the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and quarantine on the personality of contemporary adolescents. Due to the relevance of the topic around the world, the work focuses on adolescence, which is the most vulnerable to the changes caused by the pandemic. The features of adolescents, their new psycho-social formations and the specifics of the crises of this period are described. The emphasis has been placed on the significance of the role of communication in adolescence, where the leading tendency is peer communication. The research process was somewhat complicated due to the introduction of such quarantine regulations as distance learning, ban on mass gatherings, and so on. The article presents the results of an empirical study of the impact of quarantine on the personality of adolescents, namely the assessment of state (reactive) anxiety and identifying and assessing communication and organisational aptitudes of an individual (a communication study). Restrictions on social interactions in adolescence, physical activity, and inability to learn offline during quarantine lead to changes in the psycho-emotional state of adolescents, that is increased anxiety, depression, fear, aggression, etc. However, the article reveals both the negative and positive aspects of the impact of quarantine on an individual. In conditions of social isolation, uncertainty of the situation, and the influence of emotional tension, certain interpersonal and intrapersonal conflicts can occur leading to changes in the psychological state of an adolescent. Therefore, the implementation of quarantine regulations should entail awareness raising work among the population in order to reduce the impact of managing risk factors. The article describes the features of psychologists’ psycho-correctional work with adolescents, educational and awareness raising work with parents and teachers to help adolescents adapt to the new living conditions in quarantine and distance learning.
Artykuł opisuje wpływ pandemii i kwarantanny Covid-19 na osobowość współczesnego nastolatka. Ze względu na aktualność tematu na całym świecie, publikacja skupia się na okresie dojrzewania, który jest najbardziej narażony na zmiany wywołane pandemią. Opisano cechy nastoletniego dziecka oraz specyfikę kryzysu tego okresu. Nacisk kładzie się na znaczenie komunikacji w okresie dojrzewania, gdy wiodącym trendem jest komunikacja z rówieśnikami. Proces badawczy nieco skomplikowała sytuacja z wprowadzeniem wymogów kwarantanny: nauczanie na odległość, zakaz masowych zgromadzeń i tak dalej. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badania empirycznego wpływu kwarantanny na osobowość nastolatka, a więc ocenę poziomu niepokoju sytuacyjnego (reaktywnego), oraz rozpoznanie i ocenę tendencji komunikacyjnych i organizacyjnych jednostki (badanie sfery komunikacyjnej). Ograniczenia interakcji społecznych w okresie dojrzewania, aktywność fizyczna, niemożność uczenia się offline podczas kwarantanny, prowadzą do zmian stanu psychoemocjonalnego dorastającego (wzrost niepokóju, depresji, strachu, agresji itp.). Artykuł ujawnia jednak zarówno negatywne, jak i pozytywne aspekty wpływu kwarantanny na jednostkę. W warunkach izolacji społecznej, niestabilności sytuacji, pod wpływem napięcia emocjonalnego mogą wystąpić konflikty interpersonalne i intrapersonalne, które prowadzą do zmian stanu psychicznego adolescenta. Dlatego wdrożenie środków kwarantanny wymaga pracy edukacyjnej ze społeczeństwem, w celu zmniejszenia wpływu zarządzanych czynników ryzyka. W artykule opisano cechy pracy psychokorekcyjnej psychologów z młodzieżą, pracy wychowawczej z rodzicami i nauczycielami, mającej na celu przystosowanie młodzieży do nowych warunków życia w kwarantannie i kształceniu na odległość.

This study examined the relationship between motivation, stress, anxiety and emotions as predictors of academic boredom among degree students of National Teachers’ Institute Osogbo, Osun State. The respondents of this study were 310, Fresh and Second year students. The study adopted descriptive research design of cross sectional type. Four research instruments were utilized for data collection. They are; - i Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, ii Academic Motivation Scale (AMS), iii Academic Boredom Scale (ABS) and iv Academic Emotions Questionnaire (AEQ). Three research questions were raised and answered in this study. Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) and Multiple Regression Analysis was the statistical tool used for analyzing the data collected. The result obtained from the descriptive statistics and intercorrelations among the study variables indicates that academic boredom correlated with anxiety, motivation, emotion and stress. Also the independent variables had joint significant relationship with academic boredom. In order of magnitude motivation was the most potent predictor of academic boredom. Suggestions were made on how stakeholders in education can design educational programmers, structure work environments, counsel clients and manage individual’s day-to-day live events in order to reduce academic boredom in all categories of learners.

El artículo pretende aportar un análisis de un conjunto de representaciones públicas del pasado reciente argentino desde la perspectiva de una filosofía queer de la historia. En él se sostiene que tal enfoque provee valiosas herramientas para indagar cómo y por qué forjamos nuestro pasado como lo hacemos, cuál es el “desorden” que la narrativa histórica con frecuencia intenta “ordenar” y con qué mecanismos lo hace, y cómo se vincula todo ello con nuestros intereses presentes. Con este objetivo, se describen y analizan, en primer lugar, distintos mecanismos que se ponen en juego en la producción de representaciones acerca de los eventos liminales que conmovieron a la Argentina en los años 70, específicamente respecto a los modos en los que se selecciona, presenta y describe a lxs protagonistas de la resistencia al terrorismo de Estado. Finalmente, se propone leer estas prácticas de la memoria pública como fenómenos de ansiedad política, repensándolas a la luz de la potencia que nos ofrece una mirada queer.
The paper offers an analysis of various public representations of Argentina’s recent past from the perspective of a Queer Philosophy of History. It contends that this approach offers valuable tools to look into how and why we shape our past like we do, what comes as the “mess” that historical narratives often try to “tidy up,” how they achieve this, and how all of this relates to our present interests. With this aim, the paper describes and analyzes different mechanisms that are put into play when producing representations of the liminal events that shook Argentina in the 1970s, focusing specifically on the ways in which those who were part of the resistance against State terrorism tend to be selected, presented and described. In its conclusions, it suggests reading these practices of public memory as cases of political anxiety, rethinking them through the potential offered by a queer perspective.
