An important element in microelectronics is the comparison of the modelling and measurements results of the real semiconductor devices. Our paper describes the final results of numerical simulation of a micromechanical process sequence of the atomic force microscopy (AFM) sensors. They were obtained using the virtual wafer fab (VWF) software, which is used in the Institute of Electron Technology (IET). The technology mentioned above is used for fabrication of the AFM cantilevers, which has been designed for measurement and characterization of the surface roughness, the texturing, the grain size and the hardness. The simulation are very useful in manufacturing other microcantilever sensors.

Growth of demand for containerized cargo shipping has put more ports into pressure to accommodate larger vessels. Considering the limitations on dimensions of navigation channels, this is not feasible unless aiming for significant capital dredging or alternatively creating high precision predictions of vessel motions subjected to environmental forcing and interaction with shallow and restricted waterway. NCOS ONLINE (Nonlinear Channel Optimisation Simulator) is a state of the art navigation support tool which combines DHI’s high level forecast of environmental conditions with mathematical model of ship motions to add an extra level of accuracy in predicting the under-keel clearance and vessel swept path to boost the efficiency of navigation and pilotage within restricted channels. NCOS Manoeuvring Module utilizes an autopilot scheme based on PID (Proportional / Integral / Derivative) controller and Line of Sight Algorithm to FORCE Technology’s SimFlex4 manoeuvring solver for prediction of manoeuvring ship swept path and response, which will effectively bring the accuracy of real time full bridge simulator to fast time operation support tool. In this paper, the result of mathematical model is validated against fullscale measurements of containership transits through Port of Auckland Navigation channel by comparing pilot commands, leeway drift and swept path through output of portable pilotage unit. According to the results the model is found promising to predict the behaviour of human pilots with precision required in operational use. Finally, the swept path and manoeuvring performance of a sample transit is assessed on different environmental conditions and tide stages to evaluate the safe transit windows in operation.

Simulator based training has its own unique features and problems associated with it. There is a need to discuss these issues in order to understand the real meaning of simulator based training and to handle it effectively. Like other fields of training, use of simulation in the maritime industry is owing to the multiple factors covering technological, financial and training needs of the time. When properly used, supported by well trained and experienced instructors, simulator training, through its risk free environment, can contribute to a reduction in accidents and improve capability and efficiency, by providing trainees with the necessary experience and self confidence to carry out their roles, functions and tasks.

Opis:
Safety of navigation is especially challenging and critical when a ship approaches and manoeuvres in harbour areas. Improving the safety especially in the first and last phase of a voyage is crucial and requires measures addressing both the human and technical-technological elements including support systems that shall provide human operators with information relevant for decision making. The present situation is characterized by the introduction of numerous sophisticated technical and support systems often integrated with several components becoming increasingly complex. On the users end, changes are not that obvious and not that rapid as for technology. However, new approaches are under development or already in use. They are characterized by applying and adapting solutions from other transport modes. In this way, tasks and procedures on ships, that are highly safety-relevant and containing high portions of manoeuvring activities have been changed to high back-up procedures as in air planes. For port manoeuvres e.g. the system of pilot/co-pilot was introduced on ferries in a sense that one officer is operating and the other is monitoring and checking the safe performance. In cruise shipping, new structures replacing the traditional rank-based with a flexible system based on job functions. This system creates a kind of a safety net around the person conning the vessel. Each operation is cross checked before execution by one or two other persons. The first obvious consequence is higher costs due to doubling personnel. On the other hand there is also a need for a technology appropriately supporting the checking officer by enabling her or him to monitor what the conning officer is doing. “Fast-Time Manoeuvring Simulation Technology” (FTS) developed at the Institute for Innovative Ship Simulation and Maritime Systems (ISSIMS) has huge potential to fulfil this task. FTS calculates within one second of computing time up to 1000 seconds of real manoeuvring time by a very complex ship-dynamic simulation model for rudder, engine and thruster manoeuvres. It enables prompt prediction of all manoeuvres carried out by the conning officer for the observing officer, too. Predictions of path and motion status allow all officers to see whether the manoeuvring actions have at least the correct tendency or indicating the need for corrections. This new type of support is called Simulation-Augmented Manoeuvring Design and Monitoring (SAMMON) – it allows not only overlooking the next manoeuvring segment ahead but also for the following or even for series of manoeuvring segments. This technology has been used within two research projects: COSINUS (Co-operative Ship Operation in Integrated Maritime Traffic Systems) set out for implementing FTS into integrated ship bridges and to also communicate the manoeuvre plans and display it to VTS centres. Within the European project MUNIN (Maritime Unmanned Navigation through Intelligence in Networks) this technology has been used to investigate if it is possible to steer autonomous ships, in case it would be necessary.

The understanding of the structural and dynamic complexity of neural networks is greatly facilitated by computer simulations. An ongoing challenge for simulating realistic models is, however, computational speed. In this paper a framework for modeling and parallel simulation of biological-inspired large scale spiking neural networks on high-performance graphics processors is described. This tool is implemented in the OpenCL programming technology. It enables simulation study with three models: Integrate-andfire, Hodgkin-Huxley and Izhikevich neuron model. The results of extensive simulations are provided to illustrate the operation and performance of the presented software framework. The particular attention is focused on the computational speed-up factor.

Opis:
In this study, the influence of air inlet layout on the flow field distribution and particle movement trajectory for the vertical turbo air classifier are analyzed comparatively using the numerical simulation method. The air inlet layout adjustment can increase the axial velocity and turbulent dissipation rate at the feeding inlet and do not generate the axial negative velocity, which improves powder material pneumatic transportation and dispersion capacity; the air inlet layout adjustment can match the airflow rotation direction with the rotation direction of the rotor cage, which can eliminate the vortices in the rotor cage channel effectively. Moreover, the particle movement time is shortened and fast classification is completed, which can decrease the particle agglomeration probability and weaken the ‘fish-hook’ effect. The optimization scheme of the air inlet layout is Type-BC. In accordance with the numerical simulation results, the calcium carbonate classification experimental results indicate that the classification performance of the classifier is improved using Type-BC.

The aim is to determine the premises and possible problems, considering human absence, in the technological process at an inland container terminal. Statistical methods are used to analyze the market of robotic automation and the perspective for unmanned technology introduction. Simulation modeling of inland container terminal operation with various types of equipment, to study the applicability of robotic automation. The choice of modeling equipment results from the impossibility of completing an experiment on the real object, difficulties of analytical modeling (the system contains casual relations, nonlinear logic, stochastic variables), and the necessity to analyze the system’s time behavior. Consideration of robotic automation in a terminal warehouse complex is of particular importance due to technological progress followed by the freight terminal to be an area with highly organized technological processes and the need for highly paid specialists.

The paper analyzes the prospects for the formation and implementation of digital data transmission technologies on railways of Kazakhstan, taking into account the potential for the development of high-speed railway transport (HSRWT), as well as new approaches for solving the development problems of advanced automated dispatch control systems (ADCS). It was shown that the solution of these problems is possible by automatization of the train traffic coordination based on the use of the potential of the GPRS data transmission technology. The work further developed models and algorithms used in ADCS of the railway transport. There has been carried out the formalization of the tasks of navigation data transmission for ADCS and for the subsystems of the railway rolling stock movement coordination, including HSRWT using GPRS data transmission technology. Also, the article describes a modernized algorithm for simulation of the GPRS channels operation in ADCS. The proposed algorithm differs from the existing ones by the ability to make predictive estimates for determination of the railway rolling stock location. Also, the developed algorithm provides opportunities for coordination of the trains movement, taking into account the optimization of the GPRS resources use.

Opis:
The science fiction of Philip Kindred Dick is a manifestation of the unprecedented challenges of man in modern times. This essay is a sociological study of Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric sheep? based on Michel Foucault’s concepts as well as Jean Baudrillard, and Thomas Mathiesen’s theories about power and its techniques. The library research method is used to trace some elements of the technology of power and the sociopolitical issues in multiple layers of the novel which reflects implicitly the nineteen sixties’ mood. The high-tech society of it is watched, controlled and conducted through advanced devices, media, consumerism, and pseudo- religion doctrine. The Foucauldian surveillance and panopticism are discussed in this carceral society where the minds of the individuals are routinely inspected in search for deviancy; and where their moods are regulated and their feeling are shared voluntarily. In addition to panopticism, due to the important role of the media in the novel, Mathiesen’s synopticism is discussed. The man’s efforts for compensating what he had destroyed i.e. the devastated nature result in Baudrillard’s concepts of hyperreality and simulation that blur the line between real and unreal. Do Androids Dream illuminates the revolutionary mood of nineteen sixties, the uprising of the youth and marginal groups against the prevalent beliefs and values. It also reflects the anxieties of atomic age, cold war paranoia, and McCarthyism. In the novel, the individuals are ubiquitously surveilled and mercilessly conducted; the truth does not have an existence of its own, and it’s just part of the regime.

Strip backfilling mining technology is of great significance for eliminating coal gangue, improving coal recovery rate, harmonizing the development between resources and environment in diggings. This paper firstly analyzed the roof control mechanism, the deformation and failure mechanism and characteristics of the filling body through theoretical analysis. Then, through numerical simulation combined with the geological conditions on site, a gangue strip filling scheme was designed for the 61303 working face of the 13th layer of the rear group coal of the Wennan Coal Mine in Shandong Province, and the filling scheme of filling 50 m and leaving 25 m was determined. Finally, an on-site engineering test was carried out on the 61303 working face. Through the analysis of the measured data of “three quantities” after the filling test, it can be seen that the test has achieved a good engineering application effect and verified the rationality of the filling scheme design. It solves the coal gangue problem, improves the resource recovery rate, and provides a reference for other similar mines.

In contrast to casting to conventional non-reusable 'sand' moulds, for which calculating technique for an optimum design of the gating system is comparatively well-developed, a trial-and-error method is applied mostly for casting to ceramic shell moulds made by the investment casting technology. A technologist selects from gating systems of several types (that are standardized by the foundry mostly) on the basis of experience. However, this approach is not sustainable with ever growing demands on quality of castings and also the economy of their fabrication as well as with new types of complex sizeable castings introduced to the production gradually (by new customers from the aircraft industry above all) any more. The simulation software may be used as a possible tool for making the process of optimising gating systems more effective.

The paper presents simulation research results of electric car motion processes with special functionality and construction facilitating its use by the disabled. The model of the structure: motor car – human being – environment has been used in the research. Special attention has been paid to the issue of the, so called, driveability of the car driven by a driver with a lower limb disability who is performing this activity from the wheelchair and not the driver seat. The driveability of the car has been assessed based on the technical stability analyses for the conditions of the ”moose test” manoeuvre. The research results have been used in the process of virtual pre-prototyping finalized with the construction of a non-commercial pre-prototype of a car created within the framework of ECO Mobility project. Simulation model of a motor car mechanical systems has been constructed in MBS technology. For description of the tyred wheel, TNO Delft Tyre model has been used. In the model of a control system, the description of programmable systems of the rear wheel drive electronic differential has been included. The model of a driver and the conditions for conducting the “moose test” manoeuvre have been presented.
