Opis:
In the world of RNAs and proteins, similarities at the level of primary structures of two comparable molecules usually correspond to structural similarities at the tertiary level. In other words, measures of sequence and structure similarities are in general correlated - a high value of sequence similarity imposes a high value of structural similarity. However, important exceptions that stay in contrast to this general rule can be identified. It is possible to find similar structures with very different sequences, as well as similar sequences with very different structures. In this paper, we focus our attention on the latter case and propose a tool, called StructAnalyzer, supporting analysis of relations between the sequence and structure similarities. Recognition of tertiary structure diversity of molecules with very similar primary structures may be the key for better understanding of mechanisms influencing folding of RNAs or proteins, and as a result for better understanding of their function. StructAnalyzer allows exploration and visualization of structural diversity in relation to sequence similarity. We show how this tool can be used to screen RNA structures in Protein Data Bank (PDB) for sequences with structural variants.

Social networking sites have gained much popularity in the recent years. With millions of people connected virtually generate loads of data to be analyzed to infer meaningful associations among links. Link prediction algorithm is one such problem, wherein existing nodes, links and their attributes are analyzed to predict the possibility of potential links, which are likely to happen over a period of time. In this survey, the local structure based link prediction algorithms existing in literature with their features and also the possibility of future research directions is reported and discussed. This survey serves as a starting point for beginners interested in understanding link prediction or similarity index algorithms in general and local structure based link prediction algorithms in particular.

Opis:
This article presents the results of a study concerning the forecasting of mean transaction prices per 1 m2 in eight residential markets in Poland. The first research problem was an attempt to study the dependencies between the similarity of price development between these markets and the values of the errors of price forecasts that were constructed based on this similarity. The analysis showed a lack of a negative linear relationship. This means that a greater similarity in price development in different markets did not allow for the construction of forecasts with a smaller error. The second research problem was a construction of global mean price forecasts. The results showed that the proposed method of constructing global forecasts was, compared to the traditional one, better in the case of some markets, and worse for others.

Opis:
Refactoring is performed to improve software quality while leaving the behaviour of the system unchanged. In practice there are many opportunities for refactoring, however, due to conflicts and dependencies between refactorings, only certain orders of refactorings are applicable. Selecting and ordering an appropriate set of refactorings is a challenging task for a developer. We propose a novel automated approach to scheduling refactorings according to their conflicts and dependencies as well as their contribution to design quality expressed by a desired design. The desired design is an improved version of the current program design, and is produced by the developer. Our approach is capable of detecting conflicts and dependencies between refactorings, and uses a sequence alignment algorithm to identify the degree of similarity between two program designs expressed as sequence of characters, thereby measuring the contribution of a refactoring to achieving the desired design. We evaluated our approach on several sample programs and one non-trivial open source application. Our results demonstrate the ability of the approach to order the input refactorings so as to achieve the desired design even in the presence of intense inter-refactoring conflict and dependency, and when applied to a medium-sized, real-world application.

Unified Modeling Language
Opis:
The Unified Modeling Language (UML) is one of the standard languages that are used in modeling software; therefore, UML is widely taught in many universities. Generally, teachers assign students to build UML diagram designs based on a predetermined project; however, the assessment of such assignments can be challenging, and teachers may be inconsistent in assessing their students’ answers. Thus, automated UML diagram assessment becomes essential to maintaining assessment consistency. This study uses a behavioral diagram as the object of research, since it is a commonly taught UML diagram. The behavioral diagram can show a dynamic view of the software. This study proposes a new approach to automatically assessing the similarity of behavior diagrams as reliably as experts do. We divide the assessment into two portions: semantic assessment, and structural assessment. Label similarity is used to calculate semantic assessment, while subgraph edit distance is used to calculate structural assessment. The results suggest that the proposed approach is as reliable as an expert in assessing the similarity between two behavior diagrams. The observed agreement value suggests a strong agreement between the use of experts and the proposed approach.

Opis:
The intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs) have a more significant contribution to describing and dealing with uncertainty. The intuitionistic fuzzy measure is a significant consideration in the field of IFSs theory. However, Pythagorean fuzzy sets (PFSs) are an extension of the IFSs. PFSs are more capable of modelling uncertainties than IFSs in real-world decision-making scenarios. The majority of PFSs research has concentrated on establishing decision-making frameworks. A similarity measure is a key concept which measures the closeness of PFSs. IFSs-based similarity measures have been proposed in the literature. This type of similarity measure, however, has a drawback since it cannot satisfy the axiomatic definition of similarity by offering counter-intuitive examples. For this study, a similarity-based on logarithmic function for Pythagorean fuzzy sets (PFSs) is proposed as a solution to the problem. A decision-making approach is presented to ascertain the suitability of careers for aspirants. Additionally, numerical illustration is applied to determine the strength and validity of the proposed similarity measures. The application of the proposed similarity measures is also presented in this article. A comparison of the suggested measures with the existing ones is also demonstrated to ensure the reliability of the measures. The results show that the proposed similarity measures are efficient and reasonable from both numerical and realistic assessments.

This paper is an attempt to use the sophistication index developed by Lall et al. (2006) to analyze the export structures of Turkey and Poland. Export sophistication index is calculated to determine the sophistication levels of each industry at the 3 digit ISIC system. These index values are then used to compare export sophistications of Poland and Turkey. The findings indicate that export structures of the two countries were similar with regard to their sophistication levels in 1985, Poland’s position improved and Turkey’s position declined in the last two decades. Today Poland is exporting relatively more sophisticated manufactured products than Turkey.

The publication presents the application of similarity analysis of distance courses. This method has been applied to define similarity of cement concrete intended for airfield pavements. The scope of works included standard concretes intended for airfield pavements and concretes after frost resistance test. The test has been conducted in diversified media used in the course of winter maintenance. The nature of resistance of pavement quality concrete was discussed with respect to frost resistance thereof. Research procedure was presented and the obtained laboratory tests results were discussed. Concrete samples were subject to observations using scanning electron microscope in order to define changes occurring in the internal microstructure. Chemical microanalysis of concrete composition before, in the course of and after the frost resistance test and the occurring changes were specified. The obtained laboratory tests results were intended for the purposes of the similarity analysis. Results obtained in case of standard pavement quality concrete were considered as comparative values. Characteristics of the remaining concretes were referred to these values and then similarity of distance courses were analysed. It was proved that BWMt concrete was the most similar concrete to the comparative concrete.
