W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono aktualne trendy w pomiarach religijności i postrzegania religii w społeczeństwie. Jednocześnie przedstawiono wyniki badań religijności przeprowadzone wśród młodzieży na Słowacji i w Holandii. Zaprezentowane analizy opierają się na danych ilościowych oraz na wynikach badań grup fokusowych w obu krajach. Oprócz oceny wybranych wskaźników, uzyskanych w badaniach, przedstawiono także pewne różnice w religijności młodzieży.
It is crucial to understand the religious ideas among youth, to set up the adequate pastoral practice. The study presents current trends in the measurement of religiosity and the perception of religion among public. At the same time, it deals with the research focused on the religiosity among youth in Slovakia and the Netherlands. The research is based on quantitative data and in the same time on result of focus groups in both countries. In addition to evaluation of selected indicators of the research sample, the study presents some differences in religiosity among youth.

The paper presents preconditions of present social institutions in Ukraine in connection with the necessity to implement the idea of sustainable development. Similarity of basic religious norms with terms of sustainable development concept has been indicated. The role of religion as a social institution in spreading and implementation of the global idea of sustainable development in Ukraine has been substantiated. The necessity to introduce the religious and cultural values into systems of upbringing of people for support of the world community's sustainable development has been postulated.
W artykule omówiono uwarunkowania obecnych instytucji społecznych na Ukrainie w kontekście konieczności wprowadzenia idei zrównoważonego rozwoju. Wskazano na podobieństwo podstawowych norm religijnych z wytycznymi odnoszącymi się do zrównoważonego rozwoju. Udowodniono znaczącą rolę, jaką na Ukrainie mogą odegrać instytucje religijne i społeczne. Wrócono uwagę, na konieczność uwzględniania wartości religijnych i kulturowych w procesach edukacyjnych i wychowawczych, aby lepiej wspierać zrównoważony rozwój globalnej społeczności.

This article reveals dependence between sense and life orientation and religious beliefs of believers. It is established that the tendency to understand God as a merciful and doting mentor is related to the aspirations to order one’s life according not only to spiritual and moral values but also to pragmatic and egoistic values which help preserve one’s individu-ality, contribute to fi nancial growth and solving personal problems. Domination of nega-tive ideas about God are accompanied by the indifferent attitude of a person to the issue of sense and life orientations.

Opis:
The main subject covered in this paper is the coexistence of the religious experience of the Church and the experience of national community in the teaching of Joseph Ratzinger–Benedict XVI. The starting point is the understanding of experience in the writings of Joseph Ratzinger–Benedict XVI. In his view, experience manifests itself in three ways: through faith and liturgy, through testimony and through saints. This, in turn, translates to the national experience, which encompasses such areas as culture and academia, religious and universal values, natural law, family and education, and the principles of subsidiarity and solidarity in development and progress. The interdependence between the Church and the national community reflected in the works of Joseph Ratzinger–Benedict XVI highlights the need for these two institutions to work together towards the common good of those who constitute the Church and those who constitute the nation, regardless of their religious beliefs or political convictions. Throughout Cardinal Ratzinger’s teaching, one can observe that the religious experience of the Church provides a starting point for the national experience that manifests itself in the brotherhood of all people.
Głównym zagadnieniem artykułu jest współistnienie doświadczenia religijnego Kościoła i doświadczenia wspólnoty narodowej w nauczaniu Josepha Ratzingera-Benedykta XVI. Punkt wyjścia stanowi rozumienie doświadczenia w pismach Josepha Ratzingera-Benedykta XVI. Doświadczenie to przejawia się w na trzy sposoby wiara i liturgia; świadectwo oraz świeci. to z kolei przekłada się na doświadczenie narodowe, które obejmuje następujące zagadnienia: kulturę i uniwersytet; wartości religijne i uniwersalne; prawo naturalne; rodzinę i wychowanie; oraz na zasadę pomocniczości i solidarności w rozwoju i postępie. Współzależność Kościoła jak i wspólnoty narodowej w nauczaniu Josepha Ratzingera-Benedykta XVI kładą nacisk na współpracę tych dwóch instytucji w dziedzinie dobra wspólnego tych, którzy tworzą Kościół oraz tych którzy tworzą naród nie zależnie od wyznawanej religii czy przekonań politycznych. W nauczaniu kard. Ratzingera, papieża Benedykta XVI widać, że doświadczenie religijne Kościoła stanowi punkt wyjścia dla doświadczenia narodowego, które widać we wspólnym braterstwie ludzi.

A person is responsible for the implementation of values and at the same time is responsible for treating himself/herself as a value. A human person is capable of self-determination, because s/he can act deliberately. Through self-reflection, a person can choose a course of action for himself/herself and assert “inner self” to the outside world through their choices. The person is also responsible to himself/herself for self-fulfillment. It’s the fulfillment of a person that leads to happiness, which consists in the realization of freedom by choosing the truth. It is associated with the relationship to other people and to God. In this article, the issue of religious education in the family, with special attention to Christian values, as the foundation of education has been presented. Firstly, the author highlights the most significant values in religious education, which is freedom of the person, love, responsibility, and then he shows the role of values in the transmission of content: salvation, Jesus Christ, the Church and Mary.

The article presents an overview and analysis of a research study of the repertoire of Polish religious songs after 1945. The article aims to present how the religious values of sacrum and sanctum are realized in them through the medium of linguistic and musical means of expression. The author also examines the categories of religious poetry as proposed by Maria Jasińska-Wojtkowska, and considers religious songs as multi-faceted acts of auto- and social communication. A phenomenological perspective adopted by the songs encourages holiness and acts of goodness through the pursuit of God – the supreme value. The article is an original text. Its goal is to demonstrate how the religious values of sacrum and sanctum are realized through the medium of linguistic and musical means of expression in Polish religious songs created after 1945. The author considers religious songs as multi-faceted acts of auto- and social communication. The methods employed by the author are analysis of song lyrics, as well as analysis of selected aspects of the musical component of the songs. The main results are as follows: the analyses reveal that the lyrics of the religious songs are imbued with the values of sacrum and sanctum, expressed through the choice of topics, the words and phrases used, and a type of poetics specific for sacrum. As a consequence, the songs provide vessels for religious values. Moreover, the structures of the songs are such that they include, as their inherent components, the author and the addressee of the values of sacrum and sanctum. The results of the analyses may be employed further as a basis for continued research, in particular in the following areas: reception of religious songs; practical applications of the reception of religious songs, both in pedagogical work and in the context of child education and socialization, especially in terms of religious upbringing and education. The songs encourage holiness and acts of goodness through the pursuit of God, the supreme value. The article also explores the social impact religious songs have on an individual’s attitude to the world and interaction with the religious community. The article’s original contribution consists mainly in the research perspective it applies to the analyses of the research material, i.e. the author’s hermeneutic and phenomenological approach. Moreover, the article’s strong point lies in its comprehensive treatment of songs as both literary and musical works.

The historical, political, social and cultural issues of the past have strongly impacted upon the current Religious Education at preschools in Poland. In the beginning of socio-political transformation of Poland the confessional nature of Religious Education was one of the demands presented not only by the Church, but also by society. Today, even the presence of Religious Education is discussed. In order to understand better the arguments supporting Religious Education at preschools in Poland, this article will provide kindergarten teachers’ opinions on the basis of a research survey, which was conducted among preschool teachers from Malopolska and Silesia region in April and May 2018.

Aim. The aim of the article is to identify opportunities for religious education in the field of promoting the values of sustainable development. By identifying key concepts, define options for future strategies in the implementation of sustainable development values in school teaching of religious education. Methods. The starting point is the analysis of the current religious education curriculum, which governs the teaching of religious education and is approved by both state and church authority. Based on the analysis, identify strengths and weaknesses and define potential areas within the curriculum where sustainability values can be applied. Results. The values of sustainable development and Christian values are based on a common anthropological platform, which is based on the dignity of the human person. Religious education should also be based on this platform. Conclusion. In order to apply the values of sustainable development, it is necessary to adjust the current curriculum in terms of content and scope of topics. At the same time, it is necessary to innovate in the way of training future teachers. The goal of innovations is the internalization of sustainability values within the value orientation of both teachers and students. Cognitive value. Christian values and the values of sustainable development are not in conflict. The content of the religious education curriculum has the potential to innovate its content to meet the current requirements of the United Nations (UN) agenda as well as the teachings of the Magisterium.

Aim. The aim of the research is to explore the functionality of the Open Education Model of religious education for the “form[ation of] an internal moral compass,” as Steven Hitlin and Jane Allyn Piliavin (2004) describe the modern understanding of values. In other words, the author will attempt to explore first what the model has to offer in terms of equipping students with the necessary skills so that they will successfully navigate through the conflict of values, and second the potential application and limitations of the model. Methods. The exploration is based on a 2014 production by Pure Flix Entertainment, the first movie in the God’s not Dead series. The author will consider two educational cases presented in the movie using a close reading method. Results. The study seems to prove that that the God’s not Dead movie accurately portrays the conflict of values experienced by young adults in present-day America. It also appears to consistently promote the Open Education Model as a type of religious education that provides considerable assistance to the learners in retaining their beliefs in the world of mixed values, especially in the time of crisis. The model appears to lend sound conceptual framework missing in other models, but its full application is time and effort consuming and fails to provide more comprehensive approach to religious diversity. Conclusion. The Open Education Method of religious instruction in the environment dominated by a multicultural approach, seems to offer valuable concepts that may facilitate educational process proposed by other models and thus deserves more thorough consideration in academic research.

The article deals with the church and religious life of Ukrainians in the context of national and political processes during the 1960s and 1970s. The author characterizes the anti-religious policy of the Soviet government, shows its directions, forms, and methods, studies the attitude of Ukraine’s title nation representatives to religious persecution and to manipulation of religious consciousness by the communist leadership, and highlights comprehensive atheistic activities and the elimination of the ways for reviving religiosity among people. The author reveals the essence, the process of creating and artificially enforcing the new Soviet ritualism in Ukrainians’ lives. This ritualism has become a convenient tool for popularizing communist ideology in the Ukrainian SSR, destroying historical memory and undermining the national identity of the Ukrainian people. The new Soviet ritualism was also a means for implementing the policy of denationalizing Ukrainians, beginning with the age-old religious oppression of Ukrainian customs, traditions, and rituals. The model of state-church policy of the Soviet power in the described period was based on the use of a variety of forms and methods of struggle against religion, including: a comprehensive control over clergy activities, destruction of religious sites and sacred objects, as well as administrative, moral, and political pressure on believers. Displacing religion, the Soviet totalitarian state destroyed not only native religious customs of the Ukrainian people, but also violated the principles of the centuries-old traditional culture and undermined the national fortitude of Ukrainians.

W prezentowanym artykule nakreślono szeroką wizję znaczenia religii w życiu współczesnej Europy. Na początku autor naszkicował sytuację prawną i społeczno-polityczną, w której należy rozpatrywać pozycję różnych religii i wyznań chrześcijańskich występujących w Finlandii. Następnie omówił zasady organizacji nauczania religii w fińskim systemie oświatowym. Po tym zaprezentował katalog wartości demokratycznych, do których przestrzegania zobligowane są zarówno wspólnoty religijne, jak i szkolne nauczanie religii. W tej części artykułu szczególnym punktem odniesienia jest Kościół ewangelicko-luterański. Następnie przedmiotem rozważań autora jest wpływ religii na nastawienie do przedsiębiorczości. Ostatnia część poświęcona jest rozważaniom na temat zależności między sytuacją religijną w Unii Europejskiej a kryzysem (nie tylko gospodarczym), w jakim się znajduje. Według autora zachowanie pokoju religijnego jest koniecznym warunkiem rozwoju zjednoczonej Europy i wyrównywania dysproporcji, jakie w niej istnieją.
Presented article outlines a broad vision of the importance of religion in the life of modern Europe. At the beginning, the author outlined the legal and socio-political context in which the position of different religion denominations and Christiany in Finland has to be considered. Then, the principles of organization of religion teaching in the Finnish education system were discussed. After that, a catalog of democratic values, which both religious communities and school religion teaching are obliged to apply, was presented, the Evangelical Lutheran Church being a particular reference point. The next subject of the author's reflection was the impact of religion on the attitude towards entrepreneurialism. The last part is devoted to reflection on the relationship between the religious situation in the European Union and the crisis – not just economic – in which the EU finds itself at present. According to the author, the religious peace is a necessary condition for the development of the united Europe and reducing the disparities that exist in it.

News Values vs. Gospel Values. Religious messages in the media – case study of celebrity gossip column “Virtues and Vices”. By conveying religious messages through a media communication channel, researches often point to the “news non-value” of religious events. This is a conflict between “news values” (headed by conflict) and “gospel values” (which are Christian virtues). However, some religious topics are also interesting for the secular media. Among them, the most popular are the stories and fortunes of well-known people (and their private lives). The Slovak weekly, “.týždeň”, has published a regular column of Virtues and Vices, since 2011, in which celebrities – including many Christians – openly talk about their strengths and weaknesses. This study offers a content analysis of the presented virtues and vices; answering the question, what (Christian) virtues and their negations are of interest to the secular media?
Wartości newsa a wartości ewangelii. Przekazy religijne w mediach – studium przypadku plotkarskiej kolumny „Cnoty i wady”. Analizując przekazy religijne w mediach świeckich, badacze mediów wskazują na zjawisko dysonansu pomiędzy wartościami ewangelicznymi a newsowym charakterem tych przekazów. Tematy religijne są coraz częściej przedmiotem przekazów w mediach świeckich. Wśród nich popularne są historie i losy znanych osób (oraz ich życie prywatne). Słowacki tygodnik „.týždeň” od 2011 roku regularnie publikuje kolumnę „Cnót i przywar”, w której celebryci – w tym wielu chrześcijan – otwarcie mówią o swoich mocnych i słabych stronach. Niniejsze opracowanie zawiera analizę treści przedstawionych w nich cnót i wad, odpowiadając na pytanie, jakie chrześcijańskie cnoty i ich negacje interesują świeckie media.

The article constitutes a continuation of the discussion between Henry Hardy and myself, which was initiated in AFPiFS in 2019 as a result of my publishing a review of Hardy’s book: In Search of Isaiah Berlin: A Literary Adventure (2018). In the present commentary I address again the nub of our disagreement, that is the relationship between Berlin’s pluralism and universalist religions, like Christianity and Islam. According to Hardy pluralism undermines universalist religions. I distance myself from his standpoint and argue that it is possible to reconcile adherence to pluralist perspective in ethics with religious belief. Besides, I return to the objection raised in my review of Hardy’s book and take up the thread of conflicts within values. I sustain my charge that Hardy does not take seriously enough the implications of conflicts within single values.
Artykuł jest kontynuacją dyskusji, jaka rozwinęła się w 2019 roku na łamach AFPiFS między Henrym Hardym i mną po opublikowaniu przygotowanej przeze mnie recenzji książki Hardy’ego In Search of Isaiah Berlin: A Literary Adventure (2018). W komentarzu do odpowiedzi Hardy’ego ustosunkowuję się do kluczowego przedmiotu naszego sporu, to jest do relacji między pluralizmem wartości i uniwersalistycznymi religiami. Hardy utrzymuje, że pluralizm z zasady podważa tego rodzaju religie, ja zaś nie podzielam tego stanowiska i argumentuję za możliwością zharmonizowania optyki pluralistycznej z perspektywą religijną. Podejmuję ponadto wątek konfliktów, do których niekiedy dochodzi w obrębie poszczególnych wartości. Tym samym powracam do wysuniętego w mojej niegdysiejszej recenzji zarzutu dotyczącego niedostatecznej wagi, jaką Hardy przypisał w swej książce tego typu konfliktom. Podtrzymuję swoją obiekcję, eksponując doniosłe konsekwencje kolizji wewnątrz wartości.
