This article deals with the re-interpretation of Tadeusz Hołuj’s drama Puste pole (1963; The Empty Field) and its theatrical staging by Józef Szajna in 1965. Based on the drama I want to demonstrate how the artists – who were both survivors of the concentration camp in Auschwitz – managed re-presenting the Holocaust despite the political situation and the accompanying anti-Semitic government campaign in Poland in the 1960s. The reception of the drama of then and nowadays shows how that re-presentation was once interpreted due to the political circumstances, which made the issue of the Holocaust and the Jews bannend from public life, language, and memory. Finally I explore how Hołuj’s drama can be read today when we approach it via postcatastophic re-reading determined by after-knowledge, retrospection, and retroactivity.

Opis:
The paper is aimed to improve person re-identification accuracy in distributed video surveillance systems based on constructing a large joint image dataset of people for training convolutional neural networks (CNN). For this aim, an analysis of existing datasets is provided. Then, a new large joint dataset for person re-identification task is constructed that includes the existing public datasets CUHK02, CUHK03, Market, Duke, MSMT17 and PolReID. Testing for re-identification is performed for such frequently cited CNNs as ResNet-50, DenseNet121 and PCB. Re-identification accuracy is evaluated by using the main metrics Rank, mAP and mINP. The use of the new large joint dataset makes it possible to improve Rank1 mAP, mINP on all test sets. Re-ranking is used to further increase the re-identification accuracy. Presented results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A high number of IT implementation projects still end in failure or only partial success. Some IT projects, however, are terminated already during project completion due to unsatisfactory progress of work or other organisational problems affecting the project. Particularly noteworthy are re-implementation projects, where an MIS is implemented again. The aim of this article is to present a characteristic of a re-implementation-type IT project consisting in an MIS-class system implementation. The author presents the results of his research conducted with the multiple case study method. The conclusions may be interesting both for practitioners and theoreticians of business informatics specialising in IT project completion

This paper reviews and parallels the thesis of disembedding–re-embedding of ideas, objects and practices in the translation paradigm (à la Scandinavian institutionalism) with the discussion of reinvention in the diffusion of innovations theory (as put forward by Everett M. Rogers). The main inquiry to be answered is the extent to which these two propositions might be taken as theoretical allomorphs of a generic treatment of the dialectics of circulation of ideas. The analysis of the two assumptions makes use of Djelic’s (2008) classification of three main framing types within sociological studies of diffusion: diffusion as epidemiology, diffusion as encounter with embeddedness, and diffusion as mediation and construction. The main input of the article is that it shows that the re-invention hypothesis links the diffusion of innovations theory with the diffusion as encounter with embeddedness model, while the disembedding–re-embedding of ideas perspective associates the translation paradigm with the diffusion as mediation and construction model. The paper further discusses the dynamics as well as the theoretical implications of these theoretical affinities for the Scandinavian translation stream.

This study discusses the cross-cultural re-conceptualization of the slogan ‘I’m lovin’ it’, popularized in Poland by a global fast-food restaurant chain, which occurs in the inter-linguistic transfer between English and Polish. The analytical framework for the study is provided by Cultural Linguistics and the Re-conceptualization and Approximation Theory. The analysis is based on proposals submitted by 45 translators asked to come up with a Polish equivalent of the slogan. The results indicate that because the semantic networks for the meaning of love do not overlap between English and Polish perfectly, attempts at the cross-cultural transfer of the slogan can be approached only as more or less accurate approximations of the original meaning constructed according to culture-specific norms, expectations, and attitudes.
Artykuł omawia międzykulturową re-konceptualizację znaczenia sloganu ‘I’m lovin’ it’, spopularyzowanego w Polsce przez międzynarodową sieć restauracji, jaka zachodzi między językiem angielskim i polskim z perspektywy Lingwistyki kulturowej oraz Teorii re-konceptualizacji i aproksymacji. Przedstawiona analiza została oparta na propozycjach przekładu zaproponowanych przez 45 rodzimych użytkowników języka polskiego. Uzyskane rezultaty wskazują, że ponieważ sieci semantyczne dla znaczenia czasownika ‘love’ w języku angielskim i znaczenia czasownika ‘kochać’ w języku polskim nie do końca się pokrywają, próby przeniesienia znaczenia tego sloganu na język polski można traktować jednie jako mniej lub bardziej trafne aproksymacje oryginalnego znaczenia według norm, oczekiwań i postaw funkcjonujących w kulturze docelowej.

Opis:
he combination of TEM research and Raman spectroscopy to characterization of MWNTs-Re nanocomposites gives a new notion about the structure and quality of materials obtained. TEM studies indicate that the functionalization method significantly influences the morphology of obtained MWCNTs-Re nanocomposites. Due to the specific spectrum recorded for the MWCNTs they can be distinguished from other forms of carbon, furthermore comparative analysis of the results at different stages of the manufacturing process confirms the covalent modification of the MWCNTs structure. The D-band intensity compared to the G-band intensity provides valuable information about the quality of the sample, in particular indicates the existence of contamination and/or the presence of structural defects. Preliminary results suggest that the high-temperature manufacturing process of MWCNTs-Re nanocomposite improves the quality of the carbon material intended for the experiment.
Wykorzystanie transmisyjnej mikroskopii elektronowej oraz spektroskopii ramanowskiej, zastosowanych do scharakteryzowania nanokompozytów typu MWCNTs-Re, umożliwia określenie struktury i jakości uzyskanego materiałów. Badania TEM wskazują, że sposób funkcjonalizacji znacząco wpływa na morfologię otrzymanych nanokompozytów typu MWCNTs-Re. Charakterystyczne widmo ramanowskie uzyskane dla nanorurek wielościennych umożliwia ich identyfikację, ponadto analiza porównawcza uzyskanych wyników na różnych etapach procesu wytwórczego potwierdza kowalencyjną modyfikację struktury MWCNTs. Stosunek intensywności pasma D do intensywności pasma G informuje o jakości badanych próbek, w szczególności wskazuje na występowanie ewentualnych zanieczyszczeń i/lub obecność defektów strukturalnych. Wstępne wyniki badań wskazują, że proces wytwarzania nanokompozytu typu MWCNTs-Re z zastosowaniem wysokiej temperatury wpływa na poprawę jakości wyjściowego materiału nanorurkowego.

The quotient cohomology of tiling spaces is a topological invariant that relates a tiling space to one of its factors, viewed as topological dynamical systems. In particular, it is a relative version of the tiling cohomology that distinguishes factors of tiling spaces. In this work, the quotient cohomologies within certain families of substitution tiling spaces in 1 and 2 dimensions are determined. Specifically, the quotient cohomologies for the family of the generalised Thue-Morse sequences and generalised chair tilings are presented.

The aim of the article is to present the changesthattook place after the death of Joseph Stalin in 1953 in the Soviet Union and in somecountriesincluded in its “externalempire”. The “Iron Curtain”, which divided the worldintotwoparts, began to shiftafter the Generalissimo’sdeath and revealed differences in the approach of individualcountries to the „newcourse” announced by Stalin’ssuccessors. In somecountries, the death of the Kremlindictatorbeganchanges in the policy of the time, in others the methodscharacteristic of Stalinismwerecontinued, whichmeant the activity of anall-powerfulapparatus of repressionseeking real and imagined “enemies”, the central authority of unlimitedpower with mass terror and striving for totalcontrol of citizens and allmanifestations of social life. The textpresents the most importantelements of the policy of the Communistparties in the Soviet Union, GDR, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania and Bulgaria in 1953 whichwereconsistent with the process of re-Stalinization, characterized by similarity to governmentsduring the dictator’s life and de-Stalinization, thatis, the reversals of methods and toolsknown in the Stalinism period.

We summarize recent developments in the area of the coherent propagation of laser pulses through dielectric media. We will show that the principle of dynamical adiabaticity opens new avenues to control the non-perturbative and resonant interaction between two laser pulses and a three-level medium. Examples include the formation of stable wave forms that can travel through optical dielectric media in a loss-free manner with arbitrary pulse shapes, novel possibilities to store optical information in dielectric media in the form of spatially dependent excitations and techniques to exploit this information to control laser pulse envelopes

Re-exam is a form of supplementary assessment designed to provide second opportunity for students who scored final course marks between [30 and 40). This study employed survey design that involves both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Questionnaire, interview and document analysis for collecting data from both primary and secondary sources were designed and executed. 315 students and 15 instructors were incorporated as a sample using stratified random and purposive sampling techniques respectively. Available sampling technique was utilized to add 10 cluster registrar heads and 18 registrar data managers as a sample. The finding of the study showed that: poor academic background of the students, health problem at the time of exam and deliberately scoring FX grade were the main causes that expose students to score FX grade. Additionally, it was found out that, majority of students scored FX grade in across departmental courses than home base courses. The finding further indicated that, re-exam is playing great role in helping low achieving students to improve their academic achievement as 43% of the students who scored FX grade in their first assessment have scored C and above marks after re-exam. The relationship between study year level and the number of students who scored FX grade (r = -0.92, p < 0.05) is negative and significant. The computed t-test result t(971) = 1.0, p> 0.05 indicated that males and females are not differed significantly on their achievement of re-exam

 RE teachers are required to demonstrate the professional, theological, psychological and pedagogical knowledge and skills delineated in professional and institutional standards to facilitate the process of learning and upbringing. True respect for the pupils does not only call RE teacher for the adaptation of the teaching method, but also demands to develop many skills and undertake the emotional, intellectual, personal and religious formation. Handlungskompetenzen (the a ctionrelated competencies) seems to be very important for every teacher, but especially for RE teacher and catechist, because they are influenced by teacher’s beliefs and values. These competencies are the complex abilities needed to enact spontaneously specific knowledge in learning situation. This paper highlights the importance of the teachers’ actions or reactions in critical and/or challenging teaching/learning situations and ability to explain a topic in the response to pupils’ difficulty and questions. Equipping RE teachers and catechists to meet the needs of diverse pupils means also to help them in planning the educational actions and critical evaluation of didactical processes. Consequently, RE teacher or catechist needs to be not only a teacher, but also pedagogue and faith witness. Therefore, he/she should be characterized by a willingness to lifelong learning, enthusiasm for self-study and broad mindedness.

The article focuses on the interpretation of selected aphorisms of the Romantic poet Adam Mickiewicz (1798–1855) provided by Bolesław Prus (1847–1912),a prose writer and a representative of realism in Polish post-Romantic literature. Prus interpreted religious, sometimes almost mystical, aphorisms as commendation of hard work, activism, and as a manifesto of practical ethics. Inspired by the mystical thoughts of Angelus Silesius, Jakob Böhme and Saint-Martin, Mickiewicz’s aphorisms are perceived as exceptionally ambiguous. Prus, however, projected his own literary and philosophical mindset onto the micro-texts of the Romantic poet and, in consequence, oversimplified their meaning. What he did is here called a projectional interpretation.

We analyze propagation of ultra short light pulses in a transparent, dispersive, nonlinear medium. A general formula for femtosecond wave packet evolution is developed and applied to specific problems. Theoretical and experimental results for wave packet distortion by lenses, wave packet rotation in birefringent media and group velocity matching in sum frequency generation are presented. Numerical results for splitting of femtosecond wave packets in dispersive Kerr media are also presented.

Obesity, at present, seems to be a very serious health problem all over the world. The surgery is said to be the most successful treatment of obesity. With the increase in the quantity of conducted bariatric procedures, the number of revision treatments increases as well. The aim of the study was to analyze the indications, results and complications after repeated bariatric surgeries. Material and methods. The repeated bariatric procedures performed in 2009‑2015 have been retrospectively analyzed. The endpoint of the study was the evaluation of early surgical treatment resultsup to 30th day after repeated surgery. Results. Overall, amongs 103 obese patients with a BMI over 35 kg / m2 , qualified for bariatric treatment 7 revision surgeries were conducted (6.8%). Two operations were carried out by laporotomy, other by laparoscopy. In the study group, neither any deaths were noted in perioperative period nor life-threatening complications. The frequency of complications- Surgical site infection and bleeding from the staple lines of stapler in the study group appeared to be 28.6%. Conclusions. Qualification for repeated bariatric surgeries should be based on a thorough analysis of the condition of the patient, previous outcome of the bariatric treatment: evaluation of weight loss as well as possible complications of the original surgery.
