Opis:
In this paper, a new mechanism for detecting population stagnation based on the analysis of the local improvement of the evaluation function and the infinite impulse response filter is proposed. The purpose of this mechanism is to improve the population stagnation detection capability for various optimization scenarios, and thus to improve multi-population-based algorithms (MPBAs) performance. In addition, various other approaches have been proposed to eliminate stagnation, including approaches aimed at both improving performance and reducing the complexity of the algorithms. The developed methods were tested, among the others, for various migration topologies and various MPBAs, including the MNIA algorithm, which allows the use of many different base algorithms and thus eliminates the need to select the population-based algorithm for a given simulation problem. The simulations were performed for typical benchmark functions and control problems. The obtained results confirm the validity of the developed method.

Objectives: The objective of this article is to present a research protocol to explore mental health care in the Moroccan immigrant collective. Methods: The study will be carried out through a qualitative perspective under a combination of the phenomenological approach and ethnomethodology. The selection of participants will be carried out by non-probabilistic sampling. Several types of profiles will participate in the study, both healthcare professionals and Moroccan patients, and semi-structured interviews will be conducted. Findings: The application of this research protocol will increase the knowledge about mental health care in the Moroccan immigrant group. By having health professionals more knowledge about it, they can create more specific health promotion and prevention programs for the Moroccan group, helping them in their adaptation process and reducing the stress and/or anxiety of the process. Conclusions: It is recommended to carry out this research protocol in different health centers to obtain reliable conclusions about mental health care in the Moroccan immigrant collective

The text focuses on the migration in the European Union and in Poland at the begging of the 21st century. It aims to prove that even if the reasons and consequences of migration are varied, they have significantly shaped the development of human civilization and have been a part of human socialization. Furthermore, this text points out that the phenomena of globalization and democratization have affected the population movement and caused new patterns of contemporary migration. The European Union is a great example of cooperation between different countries in order to realize the principle of free population movement, which was put to the test over past years. Additionally, this article characterizes the Polish migration, especially the inflow of immigrants to Poland. Poland has become an emigration and an attractive immigration country. This text revels also the consequences of migration in modern Europe.

Based on the collected statistical material, the analysis of population changes in the North Caucasus regions since the last allRussian population census until 2018 was conducted. The article considers the main factors of the current population reproduction, and trends in the dynamics of the population in the North Caucasus were set. Based on the obtained data, the subjects of the North Caucasus are divided into two categories. The first are Russian-speaking regions where the absolute population growth is observed due to a positive migration balance that covers the natural decline of the population. The other category includes mainly national republics with a high natural growth that covers a significant migration outflow of the population. Despite the favorable demographic situation in the region under study, there is a trend towards the end of the demographic boom that is typical of the entire North Caucasus region. In general, there is a stabilization of the birth rate and natural growth, and a decrease in the intensity of migration movements.

Poland, traditionally a country of emigration, started to record a positive migration balance in recent years. However, thus far, no forecast has indicated the possibility of Poland’s transition from a net sending to a net receiving regime. This study indicates the theoretical underpinnings of such a change and provides an international migration projection. To this end, we refer to the historical experiences of other European countries, more advanced in terms of the Demographic Transition (DT), Second Demographic Transition (SDT) and Migration Transition. We develop a deterministic migration projection of four types of flow (the in- and out-migration of nationals and foreign citizens) up until 2060, combined with the United Nations’ Bayesian probabilistic models of fertility and mortality projections. The results show that Poland will evolve from having a net sending to having a net receiving status around 2030–2034. The combined effect of migration flows on population ageing will not be significant but, in the long run, when considered separately, the four types of flow will have non-negligible, though opposite, effects: the outflows will contribute to population rejuvenation, while the inflows will accelerate population ageing.

Maintenance of the optimum quantity of population in mountainous regions of the world and management of migration processes are among urgent matters. The problem is so difficult that it requires a complex study and foresees regional originalities. Therefore, the main objective of the research is to study the aims and factors involving potential migrants in possible migration processes, based on the example of Georgia, in particular on the example of the mountainous region of Adjaria. The research was mainly based on sociological questioning and an in-depth interview method, by which a comparison of surveys conducted in the Soviet period and in independent Georgia as well as a comparison of quantitative and qualitative properties of migration processes were performed. As a result of the research, it was concluded that main reasons causing potential migration processes in the modern period are not social, but economic and ecological factors. Besides, in different social groups, geographical originalities of trends of expected migration processes were found. Therefore, events managing the expected migration processes are set, which would bear huge importance for working out the country’s migration policy and efficiently fulfilling municipal programs.

Opis:
The aim of research presented in the paper is to explore the comparison of Total Fertility Rates of Polish women in England and Wales, with the rates for Polish women who are residents in Poland. Population censuses in Poland and the United Kingdom in 2011 provide information for such comparisons and show higher fertility rates of Polish women abroad than in Poland. Two specific questions were investigated. The first one is the question of the number of children born in Poland. It was observed that the number estimated on the basis of census data was not consistent with birth records in the register. The second question concerns the number of the usually resident population in Poland. We provide quality assessment of 2011 population census in Poland, estimates of actual and usually resident population. Based on thorough evaluation, a correction of the population estimates is proposed (RAF). Due to non-response and data omissions, the idea of Small Domain Estimation is applied with two a priori age and sex distributions: from the Polish Census Survey and upon the UK census. Fertility in Poland is estimated with regard to usually resident population published on the Census Hub, our RAF estimates and LFS data. The estimates of women at reproductive age differ for over 495,000, what cause certain discrepancies in TFR. Additionally we analyse changes in timing of birth and provide tempo adjusted TFR. The paper shows consequences of population estimates for measuring fertility. It was found that depending on the population estimates TFR in Poland differs from 1.31 for actual population to 1.45 for RAF estimates and 1.63 for tempo-adjusted TFR. Via detailed empirical examination of the usually resident population estimates in Poland we show inconsistencies resulting from the flexibility in interpretation of definitions given by EU 1260/2013 and specific regulations of individual countries.

Labour migration of people at productive age is a common practice in Western countries based on capitalist economy and parliamentary democracy. Post-accession migration from Poland is a mass phenomenon nowadays, having a double impact on the situation of the oldest family members: they face the need to undertake new versions of old traditional roles or – on the other hand – they are left alone, often in deteriorating health conditions and without assistance in everyday routines. The aim of this analysis is to provide recommendations for social policy on possible solutions supporting and supplementing the care offered for old persons in the situation of migration of their adult children. The analysis is based on the existing data and reports.  Recommendations proposed in the article are directly and indirectly related to forms of care which should be provided to older adults. Aid and assistance are viewed as a chain of interrelated processes; for example, higher digital competences of older adults would allow them to communicate with their families abroad and would help them to be independent in shopping or fixing financial and administrative affairs, as they could do this online.

International migration is a global phenomenon that is growing in scope, complexity and impact. Migration is both a cause and effect of broader development processes and an intrinsic feature of our constantly globalizing world. While no substitute for development, migration can be a positive force for development when supported by the right set of policies. The rise in global mobility, the growing complexity of migratory patterns and its impact on countries, migrants, families and communities have all contributed to international migration becoming a priority for the international community. Labour migration, in the modern world, has undergone and continues undergoing serious evolution. In addition to regional migration, the flows have intensified in domestic and foreign labour market. It should be pointed out that, for migration processes the following factors are critical: progress in the field of transport, development of mechanization and aviation communications as well as modern systems of communication, media and information technology. A fundamental role in the formation of migration potential and its growth in Ukraine play, on the one hand, demographic phenomena, as well as increasing unemployment; on the other hand, significant changes in the global economy, the emergence and development of powerful economic centers of the modern manufacturing industries, the comprehensive development of the service sector. Political decisions to limit labour migration in Ukraine are unlikely to play a significant role in international relations. Neither restrictive measures nor development strategy as a whole will not be able to rein in international labour migration in the short term. Two strong factors contribute to the displacement of population. These factors include the spread of a global culture, the rise of international capital, goods and people. The world community must learn to live in the conditions of mass migration in the near future.

Extended gravity models were run to highlight the differences between the migratory behaviours of Italians and foreigners. The model was implemented to detect the different effects of the Italian and foreign populations, and the distances between the provinces of origin and destinations of the inter-provincial migration of Italians and foreigners. Estimations obtained for the years 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2015 highlight the different evolutions of the phenomenon.

The main issue of the study was to determine the importance of the climate factor for migration flows in Russia, as well as its impact on the intraregional level. The article also discusses the possible prospects that global warming may bring to Siberia. According to the results, the climate factor does not have a crucial influence on the decision to relocate in Russia, but it remains one of the most important, along with economic, social and political factors. At the regional level, the climate factor is less important than the agglomeration factor and others. The impact of global warming has now affected the overall increase in temperatures in Siberia, which is not yet sufficient to generate additional migration flows.

Opis:
A computer experiment study of population evolution and its dynamics is presented for two competing species (A and B) which share two habitats (1 and 2) of a limited environmental capacity. The Penna model of biological aging, based on the concept of defective mutation accumulation, was adopted for migrating population. In this paper, we assume and concentrate on the case when only one species (A) is mobile. For isolated habitats and for any initial population, we get at equilibrium spatial population distribution (A, B) in which A occupies location ’1’ only, while B-species is the ultimate winner in ’2’. This is achieved by suitable choice of model parameters so habitat ’1’ is more attractive for species ’A’ while location ’2’ is more advantageous to ’B’. However, population distribution begins to differ when migration between habitats is allowed. Initially stable distribution (A, B), becomes (A, A&B) with a mixed stationary population in location ’2’. For a higher migration rate, initial (A, B) distribution goes to (A, A) distribution, in which A species is dominant also in a less friendly habitat ’2’. However, a further increase in migration rate brings sequence (A, B)b(B, B). In short, for sufficiently high mobility of A-species, they eliminate themselves. Other scenarios not discussed here were also studied. They offer a rich variety of different sequences of population distribution regarding their size as well as other characteristics.

Opis:
As in many other countries in the world, great economic, social and demographic changes after the Second World War took place in Poland, too. Against this backdrop, the question arises whether these changes can be observed also in towns located in peripheral and economically underdeveloped areas. Therefore, the subject of discussion is Ostrołęka and its population in the years 1946–2015, population growth and migration as constituent parts of shaping total population growth of the town. It has been proved in the article that, in particular phases of the town’s development, the importance of these elements changed. For example, in the years 1947–1975 with total population growth of 18 761 people, the share of the migration balance was 65.7%, in the years 1976–1989 61.8%, in the years 1990–1999 55.2% and in the years 1999–2015 the outflow of population exceeded the inflow, and the size of the population growth did not manage to compensate for the loss related to the negative balance. As a result of such processes in Ostrołęka there was a population loss of 2000 people. The vast majority of towns and rural communes in Poland are affected by such phenomenon, whereas Ostrołęka, unlike most Polish towns, in the years 1999–2015 still was characterized by positive population growth.

Opis:
This paper addresses the changes in the demographic development of Ukraine in the last 125 years in quantitative parameters of demographic sustainability: alterations in population size, its gender and age structure, and natural and migration movement. Demographic sustainability is considered to be the capacity of a country’s or a region’s demography to preserve a consistent population size with optimal proportions between its age categories. Eight historical-demographic stages related to specific military-political and socio-economic events are outlined and analysed. Demographic catastrophes and crises in Ukraine were directly related to the aggression of totalitarian regimes. They occurred at the initial stages of demographic transition, so Ukraine was capable of restoring the population size, albeit with deeply disturbed demographic structures. The large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine increases the risk of the occurrence of a modern demographic catastrophe. Nowadays, the demographic sustainability of Ukraine cannot be achieved autonomously without the positive impact of external factors – the respective governmental demographic and socio-economic policies.
