    The subject of this article is an overview of Polish publishing in the exile during the World War II and first post-war years. The literary activity was mostly linked to the cultural tradition of the Second Polish Republic. The author describes this phenomenon quantitatively and presents the number of books published in the respective years. He also tries to explain which external factors, not only political and military, but also financial and organizational, affected publications of Polish books around the world. The subject of the debate is also geography of the Polish publishing. It is connected with a long term migration of different groups of people living in exile. The author not only points out the areas where Polish editorial activity was just temporary, but also the areas where it was long-lasting. The book output was a great assistance to Polish people living in diasporas, as well as to readers living in Poland. The following text is an excerpt of the book which is currently being prepared by the author. The book is devoted to the history of Polish publishing in exile.

    Edmund Campion (1540-1581) was a Jesuit priest and fellow of St. John’s College in Oxford, who was, first and foremost, most famed in his time for his extraordinary rhetorical skills. Today, a glimpse of the exceptional oratorical skills of the man can be provided by books and very rare copies of which can be found in Poland’s libraries. This attests to the exceptional Polish interest in Campion’s works throughout the centuries. This article presents the partial results of original research findings in an area often neglected by English and Polish literary historians. It aims to provide a descriptive survey of Campion’s rare books which can be found in selected libraries in Poland. By employing methodology drawn from the disciplines of History of the Book and Philology, it is hoped that the reader can be thus more acquainted with the existence of the rare books found in Polish libraries and thus equip him with a better and deeper appreciation of the unique cultural and historical value of the rare books in Polish library holdings. The article begins by briefly describing the history of the provenance of some of the Campion rare books which we have today thanks to the bibliophile and collection initiatives of some of Poland’s eminent statesmen such as Tadeusz Czacki and Adam Kazimierz Czartoryski. This is then followed by a brief history of Campion and his times. Particular emphasis shall be made on the history of the printing of “Rationes Decem,” as it was printed secretly. Finally, a brief description of the relveant rare books, that is translations and later editions of the “Rationes” shall be briefly described. The wide interest, as best illustrated by Skarga’s mentioning of the text or the Pisecius’ reply, in the “Rationes” shall also be discussed as it testifies to the wide interest that the person of Campion and his text enjoyed in the times of the Polish Commonwealth.

    The following study of a small collection of Conrad’s journalism related to Polish independence distinguishes The Crime of Partition as the final and most mature voicing of the Polish-Romantic, tyrtaean, and balladic intertextuality of Lord Jim’s author. Conrad, however, while referring to Adam Mickiewicz’s Lilie and The Books and the Pilgrimage of the Polish Nation, does maintain some distance from his allusions and reminiscences. Rather, the romanticizing that saturates the sketch integrates the entire argument, and what is more, it also promotes intriguing intellectualization: the Polish literary tradition, here reduced to a colorful convention (e.g. frenetic, as in Lilie), released from its “limiting” framework, is a kind of carefully planned, sophisticated literary play for Conrad. It can be appreciated by Conrad’s non- Polish reader, uninitiated in the pathos of the Polish problem, the one to whom the writer speaks in particular in this case.
    Studium spośród niewielkiego kręgu Conradowskiej publicystyki niepodległościowej i okołoniepodległościowej wyróżnia Zbrodnię rozbiorów jako ten tekst autora Lorda Jima, w którym ostatecznie i w pełni dojrzale dochodzi do głosu polskoromantyczna, tyrtejsko-balladowa intertekstualność. Conrad wszelako, odnosząc się do Mickiewiczowskich Lilii oraz Ksiąg narodu polskiego i pielgrzymstwa polskiego, nie pozostaje bynajmniej niewolnikiem własnej aluzji czy reminiscencji. Romantycyzacja, którą nasyca swój szkic, integruje raczej cały wywód, co więcej – sprzyja też jego intrygującej intelektualizacji: polska tradycja literacka, zredukowana tutaj bowiem do barwnej (np. frenetycznej jak w Liliach) konwencji, a uwolniona ze swoich „usztywniających” ram, stanowi dla Conrada rodzaj skrzętnie zaplanowanej, wyszukanej „gry literackiej”, którą docenić może niewtajemniczony w patos sprawy polskiej, zagraniczny czytelnik Conrada – ten, na którym pisarzowi zależy w tym przypadku najbardziej.

    In 2006 Maria Janion wrote in The Uncanny Slavdom that “the new narrative of the humanities can tell the story of our culture differentlyˮ. Since that time such 'new narratives' have multiplied literally right in front of our eyes. While in the late 2000s the existence of a distinct Slavic fantasy subgenre was a matter of controversy, hotly debated by both authors and academics, today its presence and popularity is too conspicuous to leave any room for doubt. Each year the market is flooded with dozens of new Slavic fantasy books, which are then discussed in countless blogs, vlogs, discussion groups, and podcasts. The growth of interest in Slavic fantasy is phenomenal and seems to be part of a larger trend gaining ground not just in Poland but also in other Slavic nations. This gives rise to a number of questions which this article tries to address: What is Slavic fantasy? What place does it occupy in modern popular culture? What effects, beneficial or less so, will it have?
