Opis:
The Holy See, with territorial residence is the Vatican City State, is the only sovereign European entity with diplomatic ties to the Republic of China (ROC), the official name for Taiwan, which presently has fifteen diplomatic allies in total. Holy See - ROC relations were established in 1942. In 1971, when the ROC lost its seat in the UN, the position of the Pontifical representative in Taiwan was downgraded from ambassador to chargé d'affaires, and it has remained so ever after. The Holy See and relations with it are unlike those with other sovereign entities, which are often influenced by geopolitical or commercial considerations. The Apostolic Palace is not interested in receiving foreign aid or signing trade agreements, but in securing religious freedom for the Catholic flock and respecting human rights. This can play in favour of Taiwan when it comes to preserving its formal relations with the Holy See. The People's Republic of China (PRC) demands that the Vatican conforms to the one-China policy by severing its diplomatic ties with Taiwan, as one of the two conditions for normalizing relations with Beijing. The 2018 Provisional Agreement between the Holy See and the People's Republic of China on the Appointment of Bishops marked a turning point in the Sino-Vatican dynamics. Yet, as long as there is no actual religious freedom for the Catholic Church in China, the Holy See remains very reluctant to switch diplomatic allegiance to the PRC. However, the 2018 agreement and the élan of the Papal policy towards China perhaps indicate that, for the Chair of St. Peter, diplomatic relations with Beijing may be 'well worth a mass'.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The paper aims to determine in what manner official papal titles are an expression of supreme power in the Church. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The principal problem refers to the ecclesiological correlation between papal titles and primatial power, as well as the ongoing changes in the understanding of power within the Church, manifested by the departure from iurisdictio in favour of communio. Methods involve source text analysis (of the Holy Scripture and ecclesiastical documents), interpretation, and comparison. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: All names of the highest office in the Catholic Church are derived from the so-called primatial texts which describe St Peter the Apostle and his mission. Together with the practice of the first centuries of Christianity, they have provided a basis for establishing the dogmatic truth about the primacy of St Peter and his successors. The primacy involves supreme jurisdictional power in the Universal Church. In this context, the author proceeds to analyse current papal titles which expose the scope and the multifaceted nature of the power exercised by the Bishop of Rome. Furthermore, the author presents modifications in the official papal titles, which are simultaneously a reflection of ecclesiastical changes in the area. RESEARCH RESULTS: It has been established that some titles are an expression of real jurisdictional power (e.g. Bishop of Rome, Sovereign of the Vatican City State), while others carry historical and honorary importance (e.g. Primate of Italy) or manifest contemporary tendencies to highlight the religious character of the office (Servant of the Servants of God). CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: A departure from the secular understanding of power in favour of a religious and ministerial direction encourages further, praxeological research, as the primatial practice of individual pontificates (gestures and symbols) precedes the official primatial doctrine.

Studying language through naturally-occurring data is easily feasible nowadays thanks to the use of concordancers. Using the software package AntConc by Laurence Anthony, the author approaches the linguistic style of Pope Francis in four of his apostolic exhortations. His lexical frequencies are compared to those of Venerable Fr. Tomás Morales, a Spanish Jesuit (1908–1994) who is considered a prophet of our time for anticipating the teachings of the Second Vatican Council twenty years beforehand. The two have several aspects in common, mainly in making laypeople aware of the universal call to sanctity and the missionary responsibility acquired in baptism. The results of the comparison show a similarity in the lexical choices. The article’s conclusions and implications are considered in relation to the word in education and in evangelization.

Pope John Paul II in his oral and written teaching emphasised that Jesus Christ is the Redeemer of every human being and the same time underlined the value and dignity of every person, as well as his/her calling. In the 21st century, it is still worth recollecting the depth of teaching of John Paul II, especially the truth about the human being and his/her vocation through the mystery of the Redeemer. Therefore, this article will present some points from the documents written by Pope John Paul II, which refer to the Christian vocation of a lay man.

Opis:
Karol Wojtyla (1920–2005), later to become Pope John Paul II (since 1978), was one of the greatest contemporary thinkers. He was a Christian philosopher and Catholic theologian. His thought exerted an in! uence on diverse generations and representatives of many cultures, religions and nations. He was an authority not only for Catholics but also for many infidels and even atheists. He often made controversies because of His firm opinions. He was an aim of liberal as well as conservative critique. The liberals criticized Him due to His uncompromising and conservative attitude to female priesthood, homosexuality, contraception and abortion. The conservatives accused Him of apologizing and conciliatory tone of His voice in relationships with other religions, especially with Jews and Muslims. Because these parts of His thought became most controversial, they were and usually are commented on and analysed by world mass media. But few people found Him a leading contemporary theoretician of civilization despite the fact that He constructed a coherent theory of civilization that is unfortunately distracted in His numerous papers. And my article is dedicated to this theory. I would like to present the core of His civilization’s conception.

Opis:
This study investigates Pope Benedict’s visit to Turkey as a global media event. The presentation includes the interaction between the global and the local in mass communication studies. The argument is that this visit makes visible some contradictions such as: East/West, EU/Turkey, Christian/Muslim, Catholic/Orthodox. Before this trip, it was presupposed that these contradictions and stereotypes reinforced by the media were to set the agenda; however, it did not happen to be the case. Instead, the existing frames had been replaced by the new ones, which was called a frame shift in news reporting. The discourse method is used to prove this hypothesis. Data were collected during the trip and the visual materials helped in building our theoretical perspective. The aim is to observe the handling of this media event by Western press. Within this perspective, our sample had been formed by pioneering newspapers: Le Monde, Le Figaro, La Libération, The Guardian, The New York Times, Financial Times, Der Spiegel, BBC on-line and Time (magazine).

Opis:
The author draws attention to the value of truly human encounters in the process of evangelization. The development of mass media does not change the fact that many people are lonely, left to their own fate. The anonymity of WhatsApp or Facebook and other communication applications does not generate lasting interpersonal relationships. Meanwhile, evangelization should cultivate the value of specific, personal and lasting interpersonal encounters. A human being is created to live in a community. Therefore, authentic, unplanned encounters can become a moment of faith sharing. The author sees the evidence of this thesis in the practice of the annual benediction of houses in the parish of St. Marcella in Rome. This form of encounter, as well as other (on the street, on the bus, on the beach) can initiate something that belongs to the action of the Holy Spirit. To make this possible, every Christian must first experience a personal friendship with Jesus.
Tymczasem ewangelizacja powinna pielęgnować wartość konkretnych, osobistych i trwałych spotkań międzyludzkich. Ludzka istota jest stworzona by żyć we wspólnocie.

The Twentieth Century provided the religious and irreligious alike with tremendous challenges in regards to belief. Evil and carnage were pervasive and the Church was in decline. In that cultural moment rose an interpreter of that challenge who theodicy was clear and efficient in answering the complex challenge of evil in the modern world. John Paul II, more than almost any other figure of the age, addressed the vexing issue of evil in the modern world. In the corpus of his writing mankind comes to know evil through an act of memory, remembering from where evil sprang, and what evil has done in man to separate him from his creator. And mankind comes to terms with identity of evil as seen and experienced through the act of suffering. Through processing memory, and examining identity, mankind can discover how Jesus Christ’s work on Calvary places us at the threshold of victory.

Mariology
Pope Francis
Opis:
Francis is a Marian Pope. His six-year-long pontificate so far has resulted in a large number of speeches dedicated to Mary (about 130). The repetitiveness of certain themes and expressions allows us to speak about the specificity of his Mariology and to bring out new and original themes. The article does this in two points. The first concerns the methodology of the Francis’ Mariology. It is a “Mariology in context,” salvific-historical, respecting the principle of nexus mysteriorum. Its loci theologici are the Bible, interpreted in its entirety; conciliar Mariology; theologia mentis and theologia cordis, which is born out of religious experience. It has an eminently pastoral colour. The second point, out of a broad thematic range, distinguishes the statements concerning Mary which are close to Francis: The Mother of God – a synthesis of grace and faith; Mary – the personal concretization of the Church; Hodegetria – the first and perfect disciple of Christ; the Handmaid of man; the Icon and Mother of Mercy; the Star of the New Evangelization; the Queen of tenderness.
Artykuł czyni to w dwóch punktach. Pierwszy dotyczy metodologii Franciszkowej mariologii. Posiada ona zabarwienie wybitnie pastoralne. Drugi punkt spośród obszernej skali tematycznej wypowiedzi o Maryi wyróżnia te, które są bliskie Franciszkowi: Matka Boga – synteza łaski i wiary; Maryja – osobowa konkretyzacja Kościoła; Hodegetria – pierwsza i doskonała uczennica Chrystusa; Służebnica człowieka; Ikona i Matka miłosierdzia; Gwiazda nowej ewangelizacji, Królowa czułości.

Opis:
The subject of this work is the numerical simulation of a turbulent diffusion jet flame fueled with a mixture of CH4, H2, and N2. Simulations have been investigated with various two-equation turbulence models to improve prediction of jet flow fields. The calculations are validated against existing experimental data obtained by Raman and laser Doppler velocimetry. In particular, a comparison of three two-equation turbulence models and their influence on combustion proces is presented, namely the Pope corrected k-ε model, standard k-ε model and the realizable k-ε. For combustion modeling the eddy dissipation concept (EDC) model with a 25-step reaction is considered. The numerical results for mean velocity components, temperature, and major chemical species are presented and compared with the experimental data. The goal of the work is to investigate the capabilities of the used turbulence models in proper predicting of the round jet spreading in a nonpremixed jet flame. Simple geometry allows for reliable flow simulations. Calculations were performed using FLUENT 2D and 3D solver. The Pope correction has been applied via the user defined function. The advantages and disadvantages of the models are discussed in detail in the meantime during presentation of the results.

The article presents the entanglement of the Catholic Church and the media by focusing on the case of the Second Vatican Council and the television broadcast of its events. The mass media attention of the council stimulated, according to the author, a double level: the media conveyed more information about the church event than it had ever done before, but at the same time, the mass media influenced the discussion of the council fathers. The article also analyzes, through the lens of the Council, the recent relationship between the Catholic Church and the Italian television.

Opis:
“Particular Churches, in which and from which, the one and only Catholic Church exists, are principally dioceses. Unless the contrary is clear, the following are equivalent to a diocese: a territorial prelature, a territorial abbacy, a vicariate apostolic, a prefecture apostolic and a permanently established apostolic administration” (canon 368 of the Code of Canon Law). In December 2016, the Bishop of Tarnów convened the 5th Synod of the Diocese of Tarnów. The main purpose of a Synod – in the opinion of the Bishop of Tarnów – was to demonstrate the spiritual, pastoral and material heritage of the Christ’s Church in the Diocese of Tarnów; to revive faith, hope and love in the personal and community relationship with Christ in the Church; and to indicate new pastoral ways in the changeability of the world towards the unchangeability of Christ. Taking this into consideration the article analyzes the following issues: the definition of a synod; the purpose of a synod; convocation of and presiding over a diocesan synod; the preparation of a synod; Pope Francis about synodality, and finally “The Church is our neighbour” – a synod as an expression of love for the Church.
