The theme of suffering and martyrdom occupies a central place in the history of religion from the earliest time. In the myths of the ancient Near East, the hero is slain, but his death, then, guarantees the revival of life. Sacrifices are means for reaching higher and loftier stages of life; the Biblical and Qur'anic story of Abraham, who so deeply trusted God that he, without questioning, was willing to sacrifice his dear son, points to the importance of such sacrifice.  Greek theater, on the other hand, grew out of a religious festival, and was often concerned with the deepest questions about morality and the relationship between mortals, gods, and fate; it was theoretically a temple of the god Dionysus, with his alter in the center.       Church history is also rich with examples of art enhancing religious teaching. From the beginning of early churches through to the Middle Ages and beyond, people interact with images, music, ritual symbols and drama. Mystery, Miracle, Morality, which have developed successively, have led to the creation of what is called now "the passion plays of Christ". The passion play is a dramatic presentation which depicts Jesus Christ's passion , his trial, suffering, and death. It is a traditional part of Lent in several Christian denominations, particularly in Catholic tradition. The counterpart of the Christian Passion play in Islamic tradition is the "Ta'ziyeh" which means Condolence Theatre. It commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, grandson of Prophet Muhammad. As Christ gave his life as a sacrifice for the sake of humanity, Imam Hussein is seen as having sacrificed himself for the sake of Islam. In both traditions the theme of martyrdom is celebrated through literature.         The reconnection of Church and drama was a recovery of former state of affairs which had been lost. It was a dream that came true on some modern poetic dramatists. Thus, many poetic plays were written on the theme of martyrdom and sacrifice in Christian traditions. In the Islamic tradition, the tragedy of Karbala inspired some modern Muslim poets to write modern poetic dramas about it. Modern poetic drama succeeded in performing a social function by dramatizing complex states of human spiritual and moral beings and it was the fruit of the seeds planted by Christ passion plays and Islamic T'azyia. It is the role of the poetic plays to show that the true meaning of martyrdom is to sacrifice one's self to give life to others, by making use of the heritage of hundreds of martyrs who sacrificed their lives defending the peaceful life of their countries against those terrorists who have killed life and destroyed peace. It is the most suitable time now for the writers of poetic drama to show through their work the difference between the true and genuine meaning of martyrdom and   the deformed one.

Opis:
The Polish version of the article was published in “Roczniki Humanistyczne,” vol. 61 (2013), issue 4. In the Gospels relating the passion of Christ, there is no description of the act of nailing Him to the cross, but there are clearly other biblical testimonies that nails were used for the crucifixion. In many representations, parallel to the nailing of the members of Christ to the cross or raising it with His body, we find placed alongside it, the scene of hammering iron with hammers by Tubal-Kain for the purpose of drawing out the appropriate tones. He hits on the anvil, while Jabal makes a notation of the tones. With this type of illustration, the sound of the hammers during the crucifixion of Christ meets with the sound of the hammers hitting the anvil. Hence, painting and music meet in the iconography of the crucifixion of Christ. It was a sort of Concordia Novi et Veteris Testamenti. In showing this prefiguration, there is also a going back to the history of Pythagoras. It was also an example for the functioning in the Middle Ages, and still later in the Renaissance, of the formulation of the Concordia divi Moysi et divini Platonis.

The presented article analyses the issue of university students’ passion and flourishing in the context of the moderating and mediating role of resilience. Research has shown that passion is related to flourishing, and ego resilience explains this relationship significantly among people with high and average scores. Mediation analysis showed a positive relationship between harmonious passion and resilience coping, consequently affecting flourishing. Thus, higher levels of harmonious passion in students correlate with higher levels of resilient coping, which is associated with greater flourishing. The conclusions suggesting a negative relationship between obsessive passion and flourishing and no relationship with resilience are equally important.

Opis:
The great conductor and scholar of the works of Bach, Helmuth Rilling, commissioned his colleague composers from different countries to write works on the Passion of Christ inspired by the four Gospels. This project known as Passion 2000 was realized on the 250th anniversary of Bach’s death. As part of this valuable initiative and tribute to the Bach, the Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina, the German composer Wolfgang Rihm, the Chinese composer Tan Dun, and the Argentinian composer Osvaldo Goliovo created four considerable works that completely differ stylistically and provide new perspectives on Passion settings. This article presents the following two European Passions from a historical perspective: the St. John Passion by Sofia Gubaidulina and the Deus Passus by Wolfgang Rihm. These composers’ perspectives of the Passion genre expand the traditional framework of this genre as they present the events of the Passion within contemporary contexts and combine musical styles from different historical periods.
Poszukiwanie punktów stycznych religii, nadawanie pasyjnym zdarzeniom współczesnych kontekstów i łączenie muzycznych stylów różnych epok to krótki zarys podejmowanej tematyki.

Opis:
The article seeks to analyze the portrayal of the Jews in two plays from the Chester mystery cycle: “Trial and Flagellation” and “The Passion.” The analysis acknowledges that the cycle is a mixture of, and a dialogue between, the universal standpoint emerging from the presentation of the biblical story of humankind and a contemporary perspective, pertaining to the reality of the viewers. Therefore, while pointing to the unique formal and structural uniformity of the cycle, which strengthens the idea of continuity between the Old and the New Covenant and the role of the Israelites in the history of salvation, it also recognizes the potential of the plays to engage in the current stereotypes. The article examines how the Gospel account of Christ’s trial and death is modified through presenting the Jews as torturers, whitewashing the non-Jewish characters, and placing special emphasis on the question of Jewish ignorance. It is demonstrated how different theological and popular stances concerning the Jewish people are merged and reconciled in the Chester representation of the passion of Christ and it is argued that the plays in question retell the biblical story in such a way that the justification for the expulsion of the Jews from England could be derived from it.

Roberts’s short stories have not received extensive scholarly attention, yet they make up a substantial part of her oeuvre. Her output of short stories is configured in a particular and coherent way, one that overlaps with her novels, but is consistent in itself. This configuration is summed up by the term plenitude. Abundance is noted in: genre and mood—in genre shifts and in a mixture of the comic and the dark; characters and settings—the range of female figures presented in the short fiction, and of time and place settings; character morphology—the recurrence of motifs of emotional excess, of longing, desire, and passion, in the shaping of characters (gender shifting is also relevant here); and language—the recurrence of motifs of excess on the level of language, the list, metaphoricity and self-referentiality, and the interpenetration of a variety of discourses. In her short fiction, Roberts conflates the spiritual and sensual, meals and wild gardens, the dark and the light. The plenitude of her created world and its language are entries to redemptive or consolatory experiences.

Purpose: Drawing from attachment theory and categorization theory, the present study aims to investigate the effects of brand attachment and brand passion on consumer purchase intention, and to explore the moderation effect of product involvement (i.e.a low-involvement convenience product vs. a high-involvement shopping product) in these relationships. Design/methodology/approach: To bridge this gap, we recruited n = 205 young consumers to test the hypotheses using AMOS 24.0 and SPSS 24.0. Exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling, and moderation analysis techniques were used as data analysis methods. Findings: Results show that when brand attachment and brand passion were assessed, the brand passion has the highest effect on purchase intention. Moreover, our data reveal that brand attachment is more likely to lead to consumer purchase intention for convenience products, while brand passion is more promising for increasing consumer purchase intention for high-involvement shopping products. Finally, we provide a detailed discussion of how these results can be applied to both research and practice. Implications: This study offers recommendations for how practitioners can strengthen purchase intentions of convenience and shopping brands in emerging markets. Originality/value: This study is the first to prove that brand attachment is a driver of purchase intention of low-involvement convenience brands, whereas brand passion is a more prominent predictor of the purchase intention of high-involvement shopping brands.

Among many musical genres, one of the most important places is passion. The contemplations of the Passion of Christ through various means of expression have for many years been centered around two works by Johann Sebastian Bach: Passion according to St. John and according to St. Matthew – which are the original and deep musical interpretations of this genre. In the twentieth century the greatest composers referenced to this tradition, among them Krzysztof Penderecki (Passio et mors Domini Nostri Iesum Christi secundum Lucam, 1966), Paweł Mykietyn (The Passion according to St. Mark, 2008), expanding arsenal of musical means of expression to the level of 20-age-old expression. Contemporary composers introduced to the passion music, among others. percussion instruments, whose sound from the dawn of history was connected with various forms of sacrum. This article deals with Carminie Crucis by Stanisław Moryto – a work in which the sounds of elaborate percussion sets talk about the passion of Jesus Christ. The author – active drummer, apart from the analysis of individual parts of the cycle, devotes much attention to executive issues, presenting readers with ready technical and interpretative solutions.
Pośród wielu gatunków muzycznych jedno z najważniejszych miejsc zajmuje pasja. Rozważania Męki Pańskiej czynione za pomocą rozmaitych środków wyrazu, przez wiele lat koncentrowały się wokół dwóch dzieł Jana Sebastiana Bacha – Pasji wg Św. Jana i Pasji wg. Św. Mateusza – będących oryginalnymi i głębokimi muzycznymi interpretacjami tego gatunku. W wieku XX do pasyjnej tradycji odwoływali się najwięksi kompozytorzy, w śród nich Krzysztof Penderecki (Passio et mors Domini Nostri Iesum Christi secundum Lucam, 1966), Paweł Mykietyn (Pasja wg Św. Autor – czynny perkusista, oprócz analizy poszczególnych części cyklu wiele uwagi poświęca zagadnieniom wykonawczym, przedstawiając czytelnikom gotowe rozwiązania techniczne i interpretacyjne.

Opis:
The Passion 2000 project, which came about through the initiative of Helmuth Rilling, posed a particular challenge for composers from outside of European culture and different religious traditions. However, the Chinese composer, Tan Dun, and the Argentinian composer, Osvaldo Golijov, met this challenge by composing the Water Passion and La Pasión Según San Marcos, respectively, and opening up the traditional Passion genre to new perspectives. Both composers began their works with the words of the Gospels and then added in new texts to imbue their works with a more universal message. These interpolations, which refer to twentieth-century tragedies, bring the concept of Christ’s suffering into modern times. By adding aspects of their own cultures to their works, Dun and Golijov essentially broke with the tradition of the Passion genre by presenting the events of the Passion contained in the Gospels through the prism of Far Eastern instrumentation and South American rhythms, while still maintaining the power of Helmuth’s request. Despite obvious references to Johann Sebastian Bach, these works present an unconventional approach to the Passion genre and open this form of religious music up to new possibilities for communication between the artist (composer) and the listener.
Niemniej jednak zarówno The water passion Tan Duna jak i La Pasión según San Marcos Osvaldo Goliova otwierają przed gatunkiem pasji nowe perspektywy.

Sofia Gubaidulina is one of the most important composers living today. Among her many works acknowledged and awarded prizes on the international forum, the diptych St John Passion and St John Easter [The Resurrection of Christ according to St John], the opus magnum of that outstanding Russian composer, occupies a special place. This work focuses the most important features of her music, such as a profound theological message based on a compilation of fragments from the Old Testament, Gospels and the Apocalypse of St John, as well as her musical rootedness in the cultural tradition of the churches of both East and West. Gubaidulina adapts the achievements of the artistic avant-garde in new and original ways, while at the same time she is an ardent champion of traditional universal values grounded in the message of the Bible and Christian cultural tradition. This paper presents St John Passion by Sofia Gubaidulina in the context of its theological and intercultural dialogue, as well as attempting to characterise the phenomenon represented by this composer, who raises anew reflection on the fate of humankind in the context of existential questions, while remaining faithful to the idea of high art, exquisite and open to various understandings of the idea of beauty.

The main goal of this paper is to reconstruct David Hume’s theory of action from the perspective of the second book Of the Passion in his work A Treatise of Human Nature. My paper will proceed in three steps. In the first part I present the main assumptions of Hume’s views on action together with a general outline of his theory. I show that for Hume action has a uniform character and that there is a constant relation between action and the motive which can be understood as desire or aversion. Next, in the second part, the main elements involved in the process of human activity will be outlined, such as: passions, will, liberty, and reason. Although Hume emphasizes that the passions are the main motive of action, since they have the power to initiate and withhold action, reason also plays an important role. In order to come to a better understanding, I will consider the functions which these elements are playing in human action and some of the problematic issues which are connected with them such as, whether each of the passions can motivate a person to action, what the relationship between passions and will is, and what kind of relation between passions and reason can be found. Finally, in the third and last part of my paper, I will conclude with a schematic outline of human action and the relation between different components engaged in the process of action.

These seven dimensions were: Interest and Engagement (IE), Interaction with Students (IWS), Passion for Teaching (PT), Creativity and Innovation (CI), Professional Development (PD), Subject Knowledge Enrichment (SKE), and Professional Commitment (PC). The responses of teachers were taken on five points Likert scale. The standardization of the scale was completed on 558 teachers, who were teaching at Primary, Secondary and Senior Secondary level schools in the state of Haryana in India. Multi-stage random sampling was used to select the sample. Results: Item analysis was done by calculating t-value and r-value for each statement; twenty items were deleted and 95 items were retained. Factor analysis (principal component methods) generated seven factors behind the teacher enthusiasm scale which explain 44.02% of the total variance together. Cronbach's Alpha of the final teacher enthusiasm scale was .957. The final teacher enthusiasm scale contains 78 items. Discussion: The findings of the present study suggest that it would be a useful tool for future research and will help in assessing the enthusiasm of the teachers. The results have demonstrated that this teacher enthusiasm scale is a reliable and valid tool. Implications for practitioners: The teacher enthusiasm scale would be useful for different stakeholders (government, school administration and management) as they can evaluate the enthusiasm of teachers while selection process and due weightage can be given to the enthusiastic candidates. Enthusiastic teachers can work effectively for children with special needs along with normal students.
