Opis:
Objectives Both physical and psychosocial risk factors contributing to musculoskeletal disorders occur in the professional nursing group, and previous literature suggested that their interaction may increase the risk of musculoskeletal pain among nurses. The aim of the study was to examine perceived workload and stress as well as physical findings and musculoskeletal complaints in nurses. Material and Methods The participants consisted of 42 female nurses, age range 23–60 years. They marked on a pain drawing the site/sites that was/were painful at the moment of testing, its duration and intensity. Thereafter they were examined using the movement and respiration domains from the Global Physiotherapy Examination (GPE). Furthermore, a subjective workload measure was made using the paper version of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Task Load Index and stress was assessed using the Perceived Stress Questionnaire. Results Almost the entire study group declared that pain experienced in at least 1 location was chronic, i.e., had lasted ≥1 year (97%). The most frequent locations of pain were low back (22.4%) and cervical/head (21.6%) regions. In the GPE, most scores indicated restricted and reduced movement, with the subdomain flexibility having the highest deviation from the predefined standard. Furthermore, the results indicated hampered respiration, especially visible in standing position. Out of all workload scores, the highest was obtained for temporal demand. Perceived stress level was found to be moderate and significantly associated to chronic chest/ thoracic pain. Interestingly, the compression of thorax test positively correlated with mental (r = 0.42, p < 0.05) and physical demand (r = 0.35, p < 0.05), whereas the elbow drop test and temporal demand correlated negatively (r = –0.37, p < 0.05). Conclusions To sum up, the majority of nurses participating in this study had long-lasting pain and limited flexibility of the body and hampered respiration, which both may enhance intensity of experienced musculoskeletal pain.

Opis:
Hereditary hemochromatosis (HH) is a rare genetic disorder, developing secondary to the accumulation of iron in tissues, which may lead to multiple organ failure. If untreated, it may result in liver cirrhosis or cardiomyopathy. The damage to the pancreas and the anterior pituitary, on the other hand, leads to a decreased production and secretion of hormones that are essential to life. Common symptoms of HH, that are distressing for patients, include joint pain, particularly involving hands and wrists, as well as the chronic fatigue syndrome. Iron overload affects the skeletal system, leading to osteoporosis. The pathological accumulation of iron in the anterior pituitary impairs the gonadotropin synthesis, resulting in reduced serum levels of testosterone in men and estrogens in women. This, however, contributes to lower bone mass. In vivo tests have also revealed that abnormal iron accumulation is related to an increased activity and number of osteoclasts, as well as the influence on the differentiation and activity of osteoblast-lineage cells. Based on a systematic review of literature, hereditary hemochromatosis (HH) will be presented as a chronic disease, affecting most of the endocrine glands.

Opis:
The concept of electronic circuit breaker came into focus realizing that conventional circuit breakers such as MCBs take longer time to trip. Therefore, for sensitive loads it is very important to activate the tripping mechanism at the shortest possible time, preferably instantaneously. This project is demonstrates fast tripping mechanism as against the slow one like MCB. Electronic circuit breaker is based on the voltage drop across a series element proportional to the load current, typically a low value resistor. This voltage is sensed and rectified to DC which is and then compared with a preset voltage by a level comparator to generate an output that drives a relay through a MOSFET to trip the load. The unit is extremely fast and overcomes the drawback of the thermal type. It uses a microcontroller from 8051 family. The project was designed to shut down the power supply when it is overloaded. Conventional circuit breaker like MCB based is on thermal bimetal lever trip mechanism. It is very slow and the trip time is dependent upon the percentage of overload. This project senses the current passing through a series element and the corresponding voltage drop is compared against the preset voltage proportional to the current by a level comparator to generate an output for the load to trip.

Background: In large-scale corporations in the software engineering context information overload problems occur as stakeholders continuously produce useful information on process life-cycle issues, matters related to specific products under development, etc. Information overload makes finding relevant information (e.g., how did the company apply the requirements process for product X?) challenging, which is in the primary focus of this paper. Contribution: In this study the authors aimed at evaluating the ease of implementing a semantic knowledge management system at Ericsson, including the essential components of such systems (such as text processing, ontologies, semantic annotation and semantic search). Thereafter, feedback on the usefulness of the system was collected from practitioners. Method: A single case study was conducted at a development site of Ericsson AB in Sweden. Results: It was found that semantic knowledge management systems are challenging to implement, this refers in particular to the implementation and integration of ontologies. Specific ontologies for structuring and filtering are essential, such as domain ontologies and ontologies distinct to the organization. Conclusion: To be readily adopted and transferable to practice, desired ontologies need to be implemented and integrated into semantic knowledge management frameworks with ease, given that the desired ontologies are dependent on organizations and domains.

Road safety problem is still topical, especially since the number of vehicles and the volume of traffic are increasing. It is possible to increase the safety of road users through systemic changes in many areas related to transport. The deformation of the vehicle body during an accident has an impact on the loads acting on the passengers. Vehicle body deformation depends on complex parameters, and knowledge of these parameters is essential for designing crumple zones and the accident reconstruction process. Knowledge of the mechanical parameters of the vehicle structure during deformation is also a reference to passenger injury indicators assessment. This paper reports results from the analytical approach for determining the protection level of personal vehicles. The proposed conception is based on the results from the static stiffness characteristic of the Ford Taurus, which gives the possibility of phenomenological and simple body crumple analytical description at a speed equal to 10 km/h, 40 km/h, 56 km/h and 60 km/h, which is an original part of the work. The approach enables us to describe the vehicle crash by focusing on variations of deformation in time, stiffness, vehicle collision time (duration), deceleration and dynamic crash force. Basing on the body stiffness data of the personal vehicle, the length of the deformation zone in the front of the car and the maximum values of force at the crash for a speed of 60 km/h are presented. Results obtained by the authors show that is possible to estimate the overloading level during the crash time of a vehicle based on the stiffness characteristic of the car body. The proposed methodology can be developed and the advantage of the presented procedure is an uncomplicated useful tool for solving complex problems of a vehicle crash.

Opis:
This paper analyzes the fracture of the quill shaft. An investigation of a twin-engine trainer aircraft incident has been reported. The incident occurred due to the right electric generator out and low oil pressure. The main failure based on the warnings and the subsequent incident was identified. The failure involved the fatigue fracture of the quill shaft on the J85 turbojet engine's accessory drive gearbox (ADG) and Input Drive Assembly (IDA). It was determined that the fracture had been originated by the torsional loads impacting the quill shaft that connects the ADG and IDA. The quill shaft was broken as the loads excessed the limit values designed by the manufacturer as a system protection part. Although the main failure was successfully identified, further analysis regarding the reaching to the triggering cause of the fracture was performed. Through the detailed fractographic and metallographic studies, the root-cause of the fracture was determined as the misalignment of the quill shaft between ADG as the driving unit and IDA as the driver unit.

Nowadays we are continuously bombarded with a lot of information, and because of it we have serious problems with accessing the relevant information, that is, we suffer from the information overload problems. Recommender systems have been applied successfully to avoid the information overload in different domains, but the number of electronic resources daily generated keeps growing and the problem rises again. Therefore, we find a persistent problem of information overload. In this paper we propose an improved recommender system to avoid the persistent information overload found in a University Digital Library. The idea is to include a memory to remember selected resources but not recommended to the user, and in such a way, the system could incorporate them in future recommendations to complete the set of filtered resources, for example, if there are a few resources to be recommended or if the user wishes output obtained by combination of resources selected in different recommendation rounds.

The problem of overload control in Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) signaling networks gives rise to many questions which attract researchers from theoretical and practical point of view. Any mechanism that is claimed to settle this problem down demands estimation of local (control) parameters on which its performance is greatly dependent. In hysteretic mechanism these parameters are those which define hysteretic loops. In order to find appropriate values for parameters one needs adequate model of SIP traffic flow circulating in the network under consideration. In this paper the attempt is made to address this issue. Analysis of SIP traffic collected from telecommunication operator’s network is presented. Traffic profile is built. It is shown that fitting with Markov Modulated Poisson Process with more than 2 phases is accurate. Estimated values of its parameters are given.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate functional and structural changes in the lumbar spine. Methods: The research group consisted of 20 male professional field hockey players. Computed tomography scans were collected to define the radiological density of the vertebral bodies and to calculate Young’s modulus. An electrogoniometer was used to measure the range of movement. Geometric parameters, such as Lumbar Lordosis Angle, Index of Lumbar Lordosis, Whitmann-Ferguson Angle and Anterior Pelvic Tilt, were also measured. Results: The values describing lumbar lordosis increased linearly with years of training and were significantly greater than those reported in the literature. Field hockey players displayed a larger range of flexion, side bending and rotation to the right. An analysis of radiological density found significantly high values. An analysis of Young’s modulus showed that the vertebral bodies become more fragile. Conclusions: The results show that overuse changes in the lumbar spine of field hockey players are severe and highly correlated with years of training.

Introduction. Several studies have dealt with the issue of professional risk factors and onset of knee osteoarthritis (OA). In particular, occupational epidemiological studies have provided evidence that activities resulting in biomechanical overload may be linked with an increased risk of knee OA – also among farmers. To our knowledge, no cases of knee OA among chestnut farmers have been reported in the literature. Case report. We report the case of a 70-year-old Caucasian male who has worked for more than 50 years on a chestnut farm. In 2007, an X-ray and a MRI, performed after a workplace accident to his left knee, showed the presence of knee OA. His job required a range of repetitive tasks, such as squatting, kneeling, climbing, walking on sloping terrain, assuming uncomfortable postures, and lifting and carrying heavy loads for the great majority of the working day. All the aforementioned tasks are known occupational risk factors for knee OA. Regarding individual risk factors, at the time of the first diagnosis of knee OA, the worker was 64-years-old with a body mass index of 26.5 kg/m2. He reported no cases of arthritis among his relatives and no sports playing on his part. In addition, his medical history revealed the presence of two minor lumbar disc herniations and tendinitis of the long head of the biceps. Conclusion. Considering the lack of major individual risk factors for knee OA, it is reasonable to suppose that five decades of exposure to biomechanical overload as a chestnut farmer was a relevant risk factor for the onset of the disease.

Research background: The global COVID-19 pandemic created an unprecedented challenge not only for employees' well-being, but also for the nature of their work, as teleworking became the norm for many of them almost overnight. Thus, there is a need to a more fine-grained understanding of the specific job demands experienced while teleworking during COVID-19, and the specific resources that mitigate the detrimental effects of demands and help employees to adopt resilient responses during and beyond COVID-19. Purpose of the article: Drawing upon the job demands-resources model, the present study aims at investigating the link between work overload (a job demand) and employee well-being (i.e., burnout), considering role clarity (a job resource) as a mediator, and task interdependence and self-efficacy as two potential boundary conditions. Methods: In order to examine the link between work overload, role clarity and emotional exhaustion moderated by task interdependence and self-efficacy, we used survey data from 701 Romanian employees at a large information technology company, who worked from home during COVID-19. We employed regression-based path analysis to examine the hypothesized relations. Findings & value added: The results reveal that role clarity partially mediates the relation between work overload and emotional exhaustion while teleworking during COVID-19. Moreover, the results from the moderated mediation analysis show that role clarity, self-efficacy, and task interdependence interact in their effects on emotional exhaustion. This study has important theoretical and managerial implications for employee well-being that go beyond the pandemic. As this study shows, when high levels of workload and task interdependence cannot be avoided, employees' personal (self-efficacy) and job (role clarity) resources might be particularly useful to reduce their exhaustion while teleworking. Based on these results, managers can design better jobs for remote workers and more flexible work arrangements in the future.

The aim of the study was to find out whether among young active people – the future healthcare professionals – there is a risk of developing lumbar spine overload disease depending on the occurrence of the disbalance of paravertebral muscles and to assess the fatigue of the examined muscles depending on the body position during the work. Methods: The study involved 50 randomly selected students of physiotherapy and emergency medical services of a mean age of 21 years. The surface electromyography (sEMG) was used to measure the activity level of spinal extensors of the cervical and lumbar spine. The statistical analysis of the results was made using the RStudio software. Results: Study shows that the majority of the examined students had a slight asymmetry between the bioelectric activity of the right- and left-side dorsal extensor bands, both in the cervical and lumbar sections (right side 118.6 Hz / left side 115.7 Hz / extension and 98.6 Hz / 95.5 Hz /flexion). Depending on the position, significant fatigue in the examined muscles was found ( p < 0.05). Conclusions: The experiment showed a slight disbalance in the average bioelectromyographic activity in the area of spinal extensors during their symmetrical work. This can be the basis for the development of the overload disease in the weaker muscle parts, which generate more fatigue during the activity. It is worth to carry out similar tests in a much greater group, taking the longer-lasting muscular effort into account.

Opis:
In round wood transport, high variability of transported assortments, made of different tree species, and variability of wood moisture content do not allow to clearly determine the weight of transported raw material. This affects the exceeding gross vehicle weight (GVW) of the transport unit above the legal limit. With significant GVW exceeding, forest roads are exposed to high tonnage vehicles, which results in vehicle axle loads above the accepted design parameters for the pavement and cause faster degradation of the forest roads. The purpose of this study was to investigate the real axle loads of roundwood transport vehicles arising from the gross vehicle weight (GVW) of the transport unit in different seasons of the year and depending on the type of transport set and the type of wood assortments. Measurements of axle loads for round wood truck transport units were carried out on the sites of three large wood industry companies from the north of Poland, which process different types of wood. The load on the individual axles of high tonnage truck units was measured using Model DINI ARGEO WWSD portable truck scales with a 3590M309 weighing terminal with 0.01 t graduation. In total, measurements were taken for 904 round wood deliveries, made by different transport units. Dominated was truck and trailer set with 473 deliveries, including 344 deliveries by six-axle sets. The second most frequently observed was truck and semi-trailer, 334 deliveries, where 193 was made by six-axle sets. There is a decrease in the use of truck and dolly and truck and lightweight semi-trailer combinations, which were five-axle combinations, for round wood deliveries. The lowest axle load for all sets occurs on axle one in the range of average values of 7.07-7.86t with a spread of results from 4.49 to 10.20t. The highest average axle loads of 9.15-12.43t were found on axle two for all observed transport sets, where a maximum value of 14.52t was also found. There were statistically significant differences in the values of loads on individual axles depending on the type of truck unit, type of wood assortment and delivery date. The distribution of the total gross vehicle weight of the set is on average 58-60% to the truck (three axles) and 40-42% to the trailer/semi-trailer (two axles) in five-axle sets, and in six-axle sets the truck and trailer/semi-trailer (three axles).

Opis:
Article deals with the field of machinery, namely with the protecting of devices for mechanical driving systems. New construction of safety-overrunning clutch, operating on gearing principle, where safety and overrunning parts are mutually integrated, has been proposed and studied in the article. It has practical importance for building, based on modular principles, machines. As the result of the theoretic studies, the expressions to calculate the following specific clutch torques have been obtained: rating torque, torques of beginning and ending of operation. On the basis of the mentioned studies, the expressions to estimate the clutch main operation characteristics have been obtained - nominal torque exceeding coefficient, accuracy and sensitivity coefficients. These expressions are practically important for proposed clutch calculations. The analysis performed demonstrates that in order to increase the clutch load capacity, the grooves must be made with less inclination angles to clutch axis. Obtained results indicate the advisability of installing the clutch on low-speed shafts. It is shown that the clutch overload sensitivity could be increased by the reduction of the spring rigidity. The calculations performed also demonstrate that balls diameter reduction has a positive effect on the clutch operation parameters. Obtained expressions and numerical results are practically important for proposed clutch calculations. It is shown that in terms of the accuracy of operation, the studied coupling fully corresponds to the level of common and investigated designs of safety clutches.
