Architecture is an area of art which, due to its public character, has always interacted with the recipient. It happens also today. Contemporary architects create modern constructions. When we look at them, we create an image of contemporariness. This process is continuous. We cannot say whether the icons of the architecture of our time have already arisen, whether the existing stylistic trends will continue to develop or, on the contrary, they will disappear. But we can be sure that new, even more “weird” structures will be created soon. Surely the inspiration for their creation will be the new civilization achievements of mankind.

In this paper we consider opening greetings and complementary closes (farewells) in emails written in Serbian language that make relatively independent communication entities with the most general purpose of initiating and concluding a correspondence as the form of phatic language function and in the same time with metalinguistic discourse function of indicating the beginning and the end. We examine their structure and lexical, semantic and pragmatic properties, and also stress the occurrence of new characteristics or tendencies in their use caused by this new medium of communication, i.e. email, as compared to traditional letter correspondence. Those are: higher degree of linguistic individualization, expression of creativity in communication, resorting to economy, linguistic reductions and omissions.

Most current concrete design codes include provisions for punching shear of reinforced concrete slabs supported on columns with L, T, and cruciform shapes. Reference studies verifying the accuracy of these code provisions are typically not provided. Empirical data of punching failures of slabs supported on columns with L, T, and cruciform shapes are limited due to the cost and time required to test specimens with slab thicknesses and column sizes commonly used in practice. In this paper, the punching shear behaviour of five interior L-shaped slab-column connections, one without a slab opening and four with slab openings, subjected to static concentric loading are analyzed using a plasticity-based nonlinear finite element model (FEM) in ABAQUS. The FEM is similar to models previously calibrated at the University of Waterloo and are calibrated considering nine slabs that are tested to study the impact of column rectangularity on the punching shear behaviour of reinforced concrete slabs. The finite element analysis results indicate that shear stresses primarily concentrate around the ends of the L, and that current code predictions from ACI 318-19 and Eurocode 2 may be unconservative due to the assumed critical perimeters around L-shaped columns.

This research experimentally investigates the effect of using the perforated steel plate instead of steel bars as a reinforcing system in two-way concrete slabs. The study consists of casting four slabs using self-compacting concrete. Three slabs are reinforced by a perforated steel plate and one slab is reinforced by traditional bar reinforcement. The amount of steel in both types of reinforcement is equal. The slabs are tested under a monotonic concentrated load at their middle point. The results show a significant enhancement in behavior. The ultimate load increased about 43% to 76%, depending on the size of the openings. Moreover, the final crack width in all slabs reinforced by a perforated steel plate was smaller than in the slab reinforced by a traditional steel bar. The results of this study may be used in future research to introduce a method that will lead to an improvement in the overall behavior of two-way concrete slabs.

Opis:
The paper presents precipitation results from cold thermal water deposits that are the main cause of clogging in absorbent geothermal wells and borehole areas. As a result of physical and chemical analysis, laboratory tests and observation of the operation of a geothermal installation, a new method was developed to prevent the precipitation of sludge from cooled thermal water. The method being a modification of soft acidising was tentatively named as a super soft acidising method.

Opis:
Sandwich panels with thin metal sheets and a thick, anisotropic foam core are considered in the paper. While the experiments show a large anisotropy of core’s material, this factor is usually neglected due to elementary assemble of sandwich panels and basically simple boundary conditions. In this paper the problem of rectangular openings is considered. Thus, the influence of two main factors on the response of modelled panels are analysed, mainly: the material model of the PU foam core and openings existing in the panel. Sensitivity analysis with respect to these factors is presented. In the final part of the paper, the conclusions are formulated.

Opis:
A space truss structural system is a three-dimensional arrangement of linear elements in a pyramid pattern forming a Double Layer Grid (DLG) system. Space trusses are an elegant and economical means of covering larger areas such as roof systems, in a wide variety of applications such as a stadium, aircraft-hanger, assembly hall, etc. The major problem encountered in using the space truss as a roofing system is the sudden failure of the whole structure due to critical buckling of the top chord member. Earlier research has shown that the optimal solution to overcome such a failure is by providing a small thickness of concrete slab over the space truss, so that the space truss with concrete slab (Composite Space Truss) will act as a floor system for the multi-storey building. For better ventilation and lighting in the building, the need for openings in the composite space truss is unavoidable; however, providing an opening in the concrete slab will reduce the load carrying capacity of the structure. The analysis of a composite space truss of size 30m x 30m with all possible locations of openings for four different support conditions was carried out using ANSYS in order to study the load - deflection behaviour. Further, the ductility factor and energy absorption capacity of the composite space truss with different locations of slab openings were compared.

Opis:
In the field of metal construction, cellular beams represent an attractive solution to meeting the various technical and economic constraints, especially for large-span buildings. In particular, they allow components linked to the construction to pass through their openings (ventilation ducts, electrical threads, etc.) and thus contribute to significantly reducing the thickness of the floors. However, the use of such beams requires special attention to comply with the regulations in force, in order to guarantee stability and behavior in line with the challenge of preserving the structures. This article focuses on the analysis of the measures of agreement between experiment and computation programs (strength of materials, Robot structures, and Inflexion-EF) results of the beams with circular cuts in their webs (IPE A 100), supported simply and subjected to a concentrated load. The experimental results show that the vertical displacement resulting from transverse compression is induced by various factors: length, cuts in their webs, location of the load, and stiffening of the beams. The comparison of experimental and theoretical results demonstrates the importance of experimental tests in validating theoretical results.
