The condition and activity of PKO BP greatly influences the national economy, and therefore the economic growth. It is an important institution connected to the financial security of the real and financial spheres in Poland. The comparative analysis of the activity of PKO BP compared to its competitors showed the bank’s stable position but also the necessity of changes in order to keep the correct parameters of activity and its position as a leader in the Polish banking market.

The main aim of the study is to show the role of business insurance in the Polish national economy. The first part presents an overview of the insurance market. In the second part the importance of insurance in the national economy is discussed, based on calculated penetration rates, insurance density, activity monitoring, coverage ratio and solvency ratio. Finally the density and penetration rates in Poland were compared with those in other EU countries. The primary research method was descriptive method and the basic indicators of the importance of insurance in the national economy. The main source materials were data from the Central Statistical Office, the Polish Financial Supervision Authority and the Polish Insurance Association. This study covers the period 2006–2014. The study confirmed a good standing of the Polish insurance market and the fact that it systematically reduces the distance that separates the Polish insurance market from the largest European markets.
Głównym celem badań jest ukazanie roli ubezpieczeń gospodarczych w polskiej gospodarce narodowej. W pierwszej części przedstawiono ogólne informacje o rynku ubezpieczeń. W drugiej omówiono znaczenie ubezpieczeń w gospodarce narodowej, obliczając wskaźniki penetracji, gęstości, monitorowania działalności, pokrycia rezerw oraz współczynnik wypłacalności. Na koniec porównano wskaźnik gęstości i penetracji w Polsce z krajami UE. Główną metodą badawczą była metoda opisowa oraz podstawowe wskaźniki obrazujące znaczenie ubezpieczeń w gospodarce. Głównymi materiałami źródłowymi były dane Urzędu Statystycznego, Komisji Nadzoru Finansowego i Polskiej Izby Ubezpieczeń. Zakres czasowy badań objął lata 2006–2014. Przeprowadzone badania potwierdziły, że polski rynek ubezpieczeniowy cechuje się dobrą sytuacją i systematycznie zmniejsza dystans do największych rynków europejskich.

Aim/purpose – The aim of this paper is to examine the impact of structural changes taking place in the Polish economy on the share of labour in national income. Design/methodology/approach – The scope of this study includes a review of the literature dedicated to the issue and an empirical analysis of data available on this topic. The study uses elements of descriptive statistics and the method of induction. Findings – The conducted analysis shows that in the years 2005-2016, a relation contrary to that reported by de Serres, Scarpetta, & de la Maisonneuve (2002), concerning shifts of employee groups between sectors of the national economy, prevailed in Poland. No research results on the impact of the decrease in the share of self-employed on the decrease in the share of labour in the national income have been confirmed. At the same time, the effect of changes in the relation between employee remuneration and the added value, resulting from their transition between sectors of the national economy, was positively verified. Research implications/limitations – The results related to changes in the share of self- -employed in the national economy should be treated with caution, as there are also economically inactive entities listed in the Central Statistical Office (GUS) register. Originality/value/contribution – To date, in Poland comprehensive research into the influence of structural changes on the share of labour in national income has not been conducted.

In order to study the social component of man-made damage in the national economy, an expert model for establishing levels of technogenic morbidity of the population of Ukraine, due to the destructive influence factors (emissions, discharges, waste), have been built by means of fuzzy logic in this paper. The economic evaluation and prediction of the social component of man-made losses – cost of treating patients with tumors due to environmental pollution have been conducted. In the national economy these results should be considered in the formation of public expences on health care and the treatment of patients. This will increase the effectiveness of state regulation of the phenomenon, provide appropriate allocations for their eradication and compensation.

The aim of this paper is to identify directions and dynamics of changes in the role of agriculture in the national economy of EU countries. The time frame of the analysis based on Eurostat data covers the years of 2000–2015. The study fits within the framework of comparative economics. As it results from the presented analyses, changes are found in the proportions between agriculture and the other sectors of the economy. An increase in the level of economic development is accompanied by a decrease in the share of the agricultural sector in the generation of GDP and the labour market. At the same time, primarily as a result in the reduction of the number of persons employed, an increase was recorded in workforce productivity in agriculture. This is evident especially in many of the countries accessing the European Union in 2004 and in the later period. Despite positive changes, agriculture in those countries is still playing a significant role in the links with economy, manifested particularly in its share in the employment rate and owned productive fixed assets.
Celem artykułu jest rozpoznanie kierunków i dynamiki zmian roli rolnictwa w gospodarce narodowej w krajach Unii Europejskiej. Zakres czasowy analizy opartej na danych Eurostatu obejmuje lata 2000–2015. Jak wynika z przeprowadzonych badań, następują zmiany w proporcjach między rolnictwem a pozostałymi sektorami gospodarki. Wzrostowi poziomu rozwoju gospodarczego towarzyszył spadek udziału sektora rolnego w tworzeniu PKB i zatrudnieniu ogółem. Jednocześnie, głównie na skutek redukcji liczby pracujących, następował wzrost wydajności pracy w rolnictwie. Jest to widoczne zwłaszcza w wielu państwach, które w 2004 roku i później wstąpiły do UE. Mimo pozytywnych zmian rolnictwo w tych krajach odgrywa wciąż istotną rolę w gospodarce, widoczną zwłaszcza w udziale w zatrudnieniu i posiadaniu produkcyjnego majątku trwałego.

The article looks into the employment of Russian citizens in Poland in 2004–2018. It presents the legal basis for Russians’ entering Poland and taking up work without having to seek a work permit, and specifies who must apply for such a permit. Russian citizens can obtain refugee status under the Geneva Convention, which grants them the right to move freely, choose their place of residence and undertake paid employment, while guaranteeing social security. On the basis of the Act on granting protection to aliens, citizens of the Russian Federation may obtain subsidiary protection if their return to their country of origin may expose them to a real risk of serious harm. A tolerated stay is granted to aliens where an alien might be expelled to a country in which their life, freedom and personal security would be jeopardised, where they could be subjected to torture, degrading treatment, humiliation, forced to work or deprived of the right to a fair trial. Training and employment can be undertaken in Poland under the bilateral agreements between Poland and Russia: the Treaty on friendly and good-neighbourly cooperation and the Cooperation Agreement in the fields of science, culture and education. In Poland, the entry and stay of foreign nationals is governed by the Act on aliens, their education by the Higher Education Act, whereas the employment of foreigners is regulated by the Act on employment promotion and labour market institutions. The empirical basis of the study was provided by the analysis of data from the Polish Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy and the Demographic Yearbook. Russians constitute the third largest group (after Ukrainians and Belarusians) of the post-Soviet States’ citizens coming to Poland. The analysis conducted showed that employment in Poland was chiefly sought by the citizens of the Russian Federation who arrived in Poland for a limited period and for permanent residence. In 2004, the Russians represented 4.4% and in 2018 – 0,66% of all foreigners who received work permits in Poland. Before 2015 some Russian nationals took up work in Poland as the managers of their own companies. Since 2015, there has been an influx of workers from Russia in three occupational groups: IT specialists, skilled workers and workers in elementary occupations. Most of the Russians were employed in the wholesale and retail, information and communication, construction, transport and warehousing sectors, which were the same sectors where Polish entrepreneurs reported demand for Russian workers. The demand significantly exceeded the number of Russians employed.

The article is devoted to the study of the place, role and regulatory framework of economic security, identifying it as a key component in the national security system of Ukraine. The theoretical and methodological approaches to defining the categories of “economic security” and “national security” have been examined in this article. Objects and subjects of economic security of the state have been defined; the basic threats to economic security have been allocated. The purposes of the economic security system and the measures that must be provided to achieve it have been formed. It has been noted that the national security today is an important attribute of foreign, domestic and military policy of the state. A special place in the system of acts dealing with the ensuring of economic security the program constituent documents have, namely: strategies, concepts, doctrines that constitute a system of officially accepted views in the state, as they are constituent. Indicators of economic security have been identified, which are the most important indicators of the business situation in the economy and the effectiveness of the economic policy of the state. The national economic interests which are necessary to be considered at decision-making on maintenance of economic safety have been listed. 106 Valeriy Hnatenko Ensuring of the economic security is achieved through the development and implementation of a set of measures aimed to neutralize threats to economic security. The article outlines the main directions of the state policy in the field of economic security of the country. It has been concluded that the problem that had developed in the economy of Ukraine requires the development and implementation of economic security strategies for the short and long term, is actual as never before, and needs further researches.

This work focuses on the fact that the realities of today’s Ukrainian economy require not only recovery but also an increase in the volume of production of products produced by energy-intensive enterprises in the industry to the pre-crisis level, which stimulated the following: an increase in the demand for fuel and energy resources (FER); the increase in the cost of imported natural gas and oil, which became an excessive burden for domestic economic entities and the state budget and led to increased dependence on the geopolitical influence of the Russian Federation; the weakening of Ukraine’s position on the global energy market as a transporter of energy resources; increased competition in the global, national and regional markets of FER under the influence of the growth of general demand, etc. It was confirmed through analysis that the priority of the state policy in the field of the energy security of Ukraine will continue to be the stimulation of the implementation of energy-saving measures and the improvement of the efficiency of the use of FER by attracting all possible incentives at all levels of management. A visualized model is proposed which will make it possible to systematically manage the processes of the effective use of FES; an action algorithm has been developed that will allow solving problems that arise in changing external and internal environments, simplifying the decision-making procedure regarding the effectiveness of the use of FER, and reducing their specific costs. The assessment and forecasting of the energy efficiency of Ukraine’s economy was conducted using additive and multiplicative convolutions, which made it possible to forecast the energy efficiency index until 2035 in accordance with the adopted energy strategy of the state. It was determined that the strategic directions of increasing energy efficiency and realizing the energy potential of Ukraine remain the technological and structural restructuring of the economy, social infrastructure, and the creation of the economic, managerial and legal mechanisms necessary for the implementation of the state energy efficiency policy.
Niniejsza praca koncentruje się na założeniu, że realia dzisiejszej ukraińskiej gospodarki wymagają nie tylko ożywienia, ale także zwiększenia wielkości produkcji wyrobów wytwarzanych przez przedsiębiorstwa energochłonne w przemyśle do poziomu sprzed kryzysu, który stymulowały następujące czynniki: wzrost popytu na paliwa i surowce energetyczne (FER); wzrost kosztów importowanego gazu ziemnego i ropy naftowej, który stał się nadmiernym obciążeniem dla krajowych podmiotów gospodarczych i budżetu państwa oraz doprowadził do zwiększenia zależności od geopolitycznych wpływów Federacji Rosyjskiej; osłabienie pozycji Ukrainy na światowym rynku energetycznym jako przewoźnika surowców energetycznych; wzrost konkurencji na światowych, krajowych i regionalnych rynkach FER pod wpływem wzrostu ogólnego popytu itp. W wyniku analizy potwierdzono, że priorytetem polityki państwa w dziedzinie bezpieczeństwa energetycznego Ukrainy będzie nadal stymulowanie wdrażania środków oszczędzania energii i poprawa efektywności wykorzystania FER poprzez przyciąganie wszelkich możliwych zachęt na wszystkich poziomach zarządzania. Zaproponowano wizualizację modelu, który umożliwi systematyczne zarządzanie procesami efektywnego wykorzystania FES; opracowano algorytm działania, który pozwoli na rozwiązywanie problemów pojawiających się w zmieniających się środowiskach zewnętrznych i wewnętrznych, upraszczając procedurę podejmowania decyzji dotyczących efektywności wykorzystania FER i zmniejszając ich specyficzne koszty. Ocenę i prognozowanie efektywności energetycznej gospodarki Ukrainy przeprowadzono przy użyciu splotów addytywnych i multiplikatywnych, co umożliwiło prognozowanie wskaźnika efektywności energetycznej do 2035 roku zgodnie z przyjętą strategią energetyczną państwa. Ustalono, że strategicznymi kierunkami zwiększania efektywności energetycznej i realizacji potencjału energetycznego Ukrainy pozostają technologiczna i strukturalna restrukturyzacja gospodarki, infrastruktury społecznej oraz stworzenie mechanizmów ekonomicznych, zarządczych i prawnych niezbędnych do realizacji państwowej polityki efektywności energetycznej.
