Opis:
The hydrogen fuelled internal combustion engine represent a promising solution to the issues of global warming, fossil fuel break point and environmental protection. The development of a hydrogen fuelled internal combustion engine for heavy-duty truck has been being carried out at Hydrogen Energy Research Centre (HERC) of Musashi Institute of Technology and National Traffic Safety and Environment Laboratory (NTSEL) since FY 2005 in the Next-Generation, Low-Emission Vehicle Development - Practical Implementation Project (EFV21) of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT). As the most important key technology, the development of the common-rail type electronic high pressure hydrogen injectors is performed. Now the development of a hydrogen fuelled engine with 6 cylinders, the total displacement of 7.7 litters, direct injection and spark ignition is about to start. In this paper, the development concept, the characteristics of the injectors, some performance in the engine output power and the effects of nox reduction catalyst ever obtained experimentally by using a single cylinder engine are demonstrated.

The paper presents the methodology and results of research focused on experimental investigation of combustion of biogas fuels in a combustion piston engine. The study highlights the variability of exhaust gases parameters produced by the engine running in an idle mode and in a generation mode. The experimental analysis includes research about variability of temperature in the cylinders, depending on the composition of fuel used to supply the engine. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of exhaust gases extends on biogas substitutes with different proportions of CH₄ and CO₂. Characteristics of a piston combustion engine were created, including CO, CO₂, NOx emission indicators, for a range of engine load and fuel composition.

Opis:
With the implementation and expansion of international sulfur emission control areas, effectively promoted the marine low sulfur diesel fuel (MLSDF) used in marine diesel engines. In this study, a large low-speed, two-stroke, cross-head, common rail, electronic fuel injection marine diesel engine (B&W 6S35ME-B9) was used for the study. According to diesel engine’s propulsion characteristics, experiments were launched respectively at 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% load working conditions with marine low sulfur diesel fuel to analyze the fuel consumption, combustion characteristics and emissions (NOx, CO2 , CO, HC) characteristics. The results showed that: Marine diesel engine usually took fuel injection after top dead center to ensure their safety control NOx emission. From 25% to 75% load working condition, engine’s combustion timing gradually moved forward and the inflection points of pressure curve after top dead center also followed forward. While it is necessary to control pressure and reduce NOx emission by delaying fuel injection timing at 100% load. Engine’s in-cylinder pressure, temperature, and cumulative heat release were increased with load increasing. Engine’s CO2 and HC emissions were significantly reduced from 25% to 75% load, while they were increased slightly at 100% load. Moreover, the fuel consumption rate had a similar variation and the lowest was only 178 g/kW·h at 75% load of the test engine with MLSDF. HC or CO emissions at four tests’ working conditions were below 1.23 g/kW·h and the maximum difference was 0.2 or 0.4 g/kW·h respectively, which meant that combustion efficiency of the test engine with MLSDF is good. Although the proportion of NOx in exhaust gas increased with engine’s load increasing, but NOx emissions were always between 12.5 and 13.0 g/kW·h, which was less than 14.4 g/kW·h. Thus, the test engine had good emissions performance with MLSDF, which could meet current emission requirements of the International Maritime Organization.

Taking into account all the above features, there are no studies of the NOx emission engines caused by different working regimes of power because engine manufacturers have not measured these emissions across the range of operating power, but usually we only report the pollution produced by its engines to a maximum continuous power.

The article describes the technology of NOx  emission abatement by SNCR method. The scope of research included CDF simulations as well as design and construction of the pilot plant and tests of NOx  reduction by urea in the plant located in industrial pulverized-coal fired boiler. The key step of research was to determine the appropriate temperature window for the SNCR process. The proposed solution of the location of injection lances in the combustion chamber enabled to achieve over a 30% reduction of NOx . It is possible to achieve higher effectiveness of the proposed SNCR technology and meet the required emission standards via providing prior reduction of NOx  to the level of 350 mg/um3 using the primary methods.

The gas microturbines gain significance in various industry sectors. One of their most crucial advantages is the capability of utilizing variety of fuels. At the same time, the emissions regulations become increasingly strict. This is why there is a need to look for a new technological solution to limit the emissions of selected substances, like carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). The internal recirculation of the flue gases is well known to limit the temperature peak and for the homogenization of the temperature field gradient in different combustion chambers. This paper presents a numerical investigation of a novel internal flue gas recirculation system applied to gas microturbine combustors. The ability to perform an internal exhaust gases recirculation by adding a combustor internal pipe system was verified numerically. This paper exposed the numerical investigation methods and obtained results. The study presents the concept and results performed on three cases of internal exhaust gases recirculation systems applied to a reference combustor. The work permitted to demonstrate numerically that it is possible to perform an autonomous exhaust gases recirculation inside gas micro-turbine combustor at a maximum global rate of 0.51%, and that the recirculation system has an impact on the combustion processes without specially modifying the combustor work parameters.

The combustion and emission characteristics of homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) fuelled by methyl decanoate (MD) with different engine speeds and dimethyl ether (DME) mixing ratios are investigated in this work. Engine data of a MAN B&W 6S70MC low-speed two-stroke marine diesel engine were used for the reactor. The results show that a decrease of engine speed has little effect on the in-cylinder temperature and pressure of the engine at constant excess air coefficient of 1.5. Meanwhile, NOx emissions decrease with a decrease of engine speed in pure MD HCCI combustion. The results also indicate that NOx and CO2 emissions decrease significantly with an increase in the percentage of DME in MD and DME mixing combustion at a constant total mole fraction and engine speed of 85 revolutions per minute (r/min).

Opis:
Ecological problems associated with operation of diesel engine in underground excavation areas are discussed. Characteristic features of diesel drives operating in excavation zones threatened by explosion hazard, including technical problems with use of selective catalytic reduction, are presented. The results of stationary tests of flameproof diesel drive, in which selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) was used, are given.
W artykule omówiono problemy ekologiczne związanie z pracą silnika z zapłonem samoczynnym w wyrobiskach podziemnych. Przedstawiono cechy charakterystyczne spalinowych układów napędowych pracujących w wyrobiskach zagrożonych wybuchem, uwzględniając problemy techniczne związane z zastosowaniem metody selektywnej redukcji katalitycznej. Zaprezentowano wyniki przeprowadzonych badań stanowiskowych ognioszczelnego, spalinowego układu napędowego, w którym zastosowano metodę selektywnej redukcji katalitycznej tlenków azotu.

The paper presents a theoretical analysis of the impact of injection timing on the parameters of the combustion process and the composition of exhaust gas from a 4-stroke engine designed to shipbuilding. The analysis was carried out based on a three-dimensional multi-zone model of the combustion process. This model has been prepared on the basis of properties of the research facility. The input data to the model were obtained through laboratory tests. Results of calculations showed that the change of the start of injection angle (SOI) from the value of 14 degrees before TDC to 22 degrees before TDC results in changes in the combustion rate and thus an increase in the temperature of the combustion process as well as the increase of nitric oxides fraction in the exhaust gas. Simultaneously the maximum combustion pressure increases also.

The present state of air quality is determined according to emission and imission situation of basic pollutants. According to the obtained information about the state of air quality, the development of imission and emission presently exhibits a decreasing tendency caused especially by industrial production innovations in European countries, with slight rises in renewable energy sources for electricity production, but especially the effort to improve the condition relates to the use of mandatory quotas and pollution charges in the European Union. The aim of the this article is to review the emission development in the year 1998 up to 2013 for Central European countries – Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland and their comparison to the European average value of the released emission. The NOx and particulate matter PM10, PM2,5 were evaluated as pollutants, which over the last few years have contaminated the air and in particular the main environment.

The paper deals with the study of the influence of various factors, which have an impact on emissions such as NOx, CO, which have been verified by measurements. Biomass in the form of wood chips as fuel of different moisture content from 9% to 25% has been tested at various boiler outputs. The presented work also defines the mathematical dependencies of NOx and CO emission generation by using regression analysis from measured data after biomass combustion in low-power boilers. The paper also describes a mathematical model of biomass combustion. The mathematical model was created to verify the measured data and prediction of emission generation in the process of biomass combustion. This model consists of combustion of stoichiometry, calculation of combustion temperatures, obtained regression equations of NOx and CO. At the end of this paper, the obtained results are compared with the calculated models as well as the results of the defined dependencies from the regression analysis.

The primary methods of reducing nitrogen oxides, despite the development of more advanced technologies, will continue to be the basis for NOx reduction. This paper presents the results of multivariate numerical studies on the impact of air staging on the flue gas temperature and composition, as well as on NOx emissions in a OP 230 boiler furnace. A numerical model of the furnace and the platen superheater was validated based on measurements using a 0-dimensional model of the boiler. Numerical simulations were performed using the ANSYS Workbench package. It is shown that changes in the distribution of air to OFA nozzles, the angle of the air outflow from the nozzles and the nozzle location involve a change in the flue gas temperature and in the volume of NOx and CO emissions at the furnace outlet.

Opis:
The main objective of the work presented in this paper will be to present and discuss the development and implementation of a numerical model to simulate soot formation and depletion in turbulent diffusion flames. The relevance of such model lays on the importance of tying the formation of soot to the ongoing reaction mechanism so that it is fully integrated into the combustion process. The model presented is capable of taking into account the direct effects of turbulence on the amount of soot that is produced in non-premixed flames. This research focuses on the study of an axi-symmetric C2H2 - air turbulent diffusion flame issued from a 3mm round jet with Reynolds number values between 8000 and 16500. The trend observed in the net production of soot with respect to the turbulence intensity is in good agreement with the empirical results found in the literature. These reveal a decrease in soot formation with increasing turbulence. This interaction between particulates and turbulence was then exploited in order to develop a mechanical technique by which a simultaneous reduction in soot and NO x was achieved. The level of turbulence was increased locally by application of a sinusoidal pulse frequency to the fuel stream. Such technique reduced the size of the soot-prone, fuel-rich region, with respect to the equivalent steady state flame, by means of enhancing the mixing between the fuel and the oxidizer. The Realizable k-E model was employed to solve the turbulence transport, whereas the reaction was simulated with a 1-reaction step mechanism and the turbulence-chemistry interaction was solved using the Eddy Dissipation Model. The size of the time steps employed in the unsteady configuration for pulsed flames was 1/20th of the pulse period. The soot model employed in this work observed two different stages in the soot formation process: nuclei inception and particle growth. As a result two transport equations are solved mass fractions of nuclei and soot respectively. The implementation of this model is achieved through user-defined functions that supersede the source terms in the default soot transport equations. Furthermore, the production of NOx was simulated using a classic Zel'dovich mechanism with partial equilibrium assumption for release of atomic oxygen, O, and hydroxyl groups, OH.
Główny cel pracy przedstawionej w niniejszej publikacji dotyczy rozwoju i wdrażania cyfrowego modelowania i symulacji procesu tworzenia i zmniejszania wydzielania się sadzy w turbulentnym płomieniu dyfuzyjnym. Znaczenie takiego modelu opiera się na realizacji modelu będącego w stanie uwzględnić bezpośrednie skutki turbulencji na ilość sadzy wytwarzanej w uprzednio niezmieszanych płomieniach. Istota tych badań skupia się na analizie osiowo-symetrycznych turbulentnych płomieni dyfuzyjnych spalania gazów: C2H2 i powietrza, wydobywających się z okrągłej dyszy o średnicy 3 mm przy wartościach liczby Reynoldsa od 8000 do 16500. Ta tendencja zaobserwowana przy powstawaniu sadzy w zależności od intensywności turbulencji jest w zgodzie z wynikami empirycznymi z literatury, wskazującymi na zmniejszenie ilości powstawania sadzy wraz ze wzrostem turbulencji. Interakcja między składnikami i turbulencją była następnie wykorzystana w celu opracowania urządzenia, w którym zostałby osiągnięty cel równoczesnego obniżenia emisji sadzy i NOx. Poziom turbulencji został zwiększony poprzez zastosowanie sinusoidalnej pulsacji do modulowania strumienia paliwa. Uzyskany model k-ε był wykorzystany do rozwiązania problemu turbulentnego transportu, natomiast symulację reakcji przeprowadzono z jednokrokowym mechanizmem reakcji, a współzależność turbulencji i reakcji chemicznych została rozwiązana za pomocą Wirowego Modelu Rozpraszania. Wielkość kroku obliczeniowego w pulsującym płomieniu wynosiła 1/20 okresu impulsu. Model cząstek sadzy użyty w tej pracy uwzględniał dwa różne etapy procesu powstawania sadzy: etap powstawania jąler i etap wzrostu cząstek. W wyniku dwa rozwiązywane są dwa równania transportu - odpowiednio masy frakcji jąder i masy sadzy. Wdrożenie tego modelu odbywa się poprzez funkcje zdefiniowane przez użytkownika, zastępują one warunki źródłowe w domyślnych równaniach transportu sadzy. Ponadto, wytwarzanie NOx rozwiązano za pomocą klasycznego mechanizmu Zeldowicza z założeniem częściowej równowagi podczas wydzielania tlenu atomowego O i grup hydroksylowych OH.
