Opis:: The paper presents the alternative migration profiles to next generation carrier network architecture. It describes the paths of development of fixed public network in- frastructure for five selected service providers. The carriers are selected as being in advanced stage of migration towards NGN. Moreover, examples of varying strategies ranging from full PSTN replacement and NGN overlay to constructing an NGN network from the ground up as well as examples of various migration strategies, especially based on IMS and softswitch solutions are presented.

Opis:: Based on the IPCC concept, the architecture of the Next Generation Network with the Decentralized Structure Applications Level to improve the quality control of the intellectual services (ISes) provisioning is proposed. It is recommended to evaluate the effectiveness of the control of provisioning ISes by means of the complex criterion, which takes into account the interests of three participants of ISes: process service providers, equipment suppliers and network users. The subcriteria are defined for each participant. The method used for the calculation of each subcriterion has been proposed as well. The problem of the association of subcriteria into the resulting complex criterion has been solved.

Opis:: MPLS architecture for transport networks play the significant role in the development of next generation networks, in particular with regard to the guarantee of continuity of communications "end-to-end" through a variety of heterogeneous segments of the telecommunications network. The article presents the concept of Mobile MPLS-TP with the use of OAM channels to support the mobility of users and optimize "Handoff" procedure in a hierarchical network topology.

Opis:: An idea of a global system for dynamic contracting data paths in the global IP network is presented. System scalability and efficiency is based on the current natural hierarchy of Internet providers. Architecture of the bandwidth market service accomplishing operation of such system is outlined. Benefits from dynamic provisioning of such dedicated paths with QoS guarantees are shown. Utilization of various technologies for this system is discussed.

Opis:: Measurements of performance have always been crucial for the evaluation of telecommunication systems, especially for implementation of network control elements responsible for connection handling which regards to bandwidth reservation, modification and release. That problem also arises in the Automatically Switched Optical Network/Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (ASON/GMLPS) architecture, which is considered as one of the components of Next Generation Network (NGN). The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) proposed a universal methodology of telecommunication control elements performance measurements, which can be also adopted to investigation of an ASON/GMPLS connection control layer. In this paper the application of the ETSI measurements methodology with regard to ASON/GMPLS performance is described. The implementation of a laboratory testbed as well as executed performance measurements according to the ETSI methodology and their results are presented.

Opis:: For the last decades huge efforts of telecommunication, Internet and media organizations have been focusing on creating standards and implementing one common network delivering multimedia services - Next Generation Network. One of the technologies which are very likely to be used in NGN transport layer is ASON/GMPLS optical network. The implementation of ASON/GMPLS technology using open source software and its results are the subject of this paper. The ASON/GMPLS architecture and its relation to the proposed ITU-T NGN architecture are described. The concept, functional structure and communication among architecture elements as well as the implementation of laboratory testbed are presented. The results of functional tests confirming proper software and testbed operation are stated.

Opis:: The IP Multimedia Subsystem is a telecommunications framework with a standard architecture for the provision of services. While the services themselves have not been standardised, standards do exist for basic technologies that can be re-used and aggregated in order to construct more complex services. These elements are called service capabilities by the 3GPP and service enablers by the OMA, both of which are reputable standards bodies in this area. In order to provide re-usability, there is a need to manage access to the service capabilities. Also, in order to build complex services, there is a further need to be able to manage and coordinate the interactions that occur between service capabilities. The 3GPP and the OMA have separately defined network entities that are responsible for handling aspects of these requirements, and are known as a service capability interaction manager (SCIM) and a policy enforcer respectively. However, the internal structure of the SCIM and the policy enforcer have not been standardised by the relevant bodies. In addition, as the SCIM and the policy enforcer have been defined through complementary yet separate processes, there is an opportunity to unify efforts from both bodies. This paper builds on work and standards defined by the bodies, and proposes the design of an interaction manager with features borrowed from both the SCIM and the policy enforcer. To help validate the design, we have identified a platform known as JAIN SLEE which we believe conforms to the model proposed, and we discuss how JAIN SLEE can be used to implement our ideas.

Opis:: This paper shortly describes the IP QoS System which offers strict quality of service (QoS) guarantees in IP-based networks and supports a number of, so called, classes of services. Such solution requires to implement in the network a set of QoS mechanisms and algorithm working on packet, connection request and provisioning levels. Furthermore, we require signaling system for informing the network about new connection request and network resource allocation capabilities for providing required resources to given connection. The IP QoS System is based on the next generation networks (NGN) and differentiated services (DiffServ) architectures and, at least for now, it is designed for single domain only.

Opis:: Currently it is assumed that requirements of the information society for delivering multimedia services will be satisfied by the Next Generation Network (NGN) architecture, which includes elements of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) solution. In order to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS), NGN has to be appropriately designed and dimensioned. Therefore, proper traffic models should be proposed and applied. This requires determination of queuing models adequate to message inter-arrival and interdeparture time distributions in the network. In the paper the above mentioned distributions in different points of a single domain of NGN are investigated, using a simulation model developed according to the latest standards and research. Relations between network parameters and obtained message inter-arrival as well as interdeparture time distributions are indicated. Moreover, possibility of approximating the above mentioned distributions using phase-type distributions is investigated, which can be helpful in identifying proper queuing models and constructing an analytical model suitable for NGN.

Zaproponowano oprogramowanie do zautomatyzowania analitycznego modelu budowy intelektualnej nadbudowy w sieciach następnej generacji. Oprogramowanie jest przeznaczone do automatyzacji obliczania stanów prawdopodobieństwa systemu, konstrukcji wykresu przejścia procesu Markowa i generowania układu równań w celu ustalenia stacjonarnych prawdopodobieństw. Przykład konstrukcji modelu analitycznego jest reprezentowany dla nadbudowy intelektualnej z zasadą scentralizowanej kontroli.
