Opis:
In the deepwater exploitation of oil and gas, replacing the polyester rope by a wire in the chain-wire-chain mooring line is proved to be fairly economic, but this may provoke some corresponding problems. The aim of this paper is to compare the fatigue damage of two mooring system types, taking into account corrosion effects. Using a semisubmersible platform as the research object, two types of mooring systems of the similar static restoring stiffness were employed. The mooring lines had the chain-wire-chain and chain-polyester-chain structure, respectively. Firstly, the numerical simulation model between the semi-submersible platform and its mooring system was built. The time series of mooring line tension generated by each short-term sea state of South China Sea S4 area were calculated. Secondly, the rain flow counting method was employed to obtain the fatigue load spectrum. Thirdly, the Miner linear cumulative law model was used to compare the fatigue damage of the two mooring system types in long-term sea state. Finally, the corrosion effects from zero to twenty years were considered, and the comparison between the fatigue damage of the two mooring system types was recalculated.

Opis:
Vessels moored at port terminals may be subject to excessive strain on mooring lines, induced by other ships passing in their vicinity. This phenomenon is called hydrodynamic interaction, and well known in the international literature as Passing Ship. It occurs due to the displacement of the mass of water between the two vessels, which, consequently, induces hydrodynamic stresses on the two ships. Within this context, scale models are a powerful tool for hydrodynamics studies, being able of reproduce the complex water flow phenomena that take place around passing and moored ship. This paper presents a scale model technique to study the Passing Ship phenomenon and its application on a case study developed for the Santos Port. The study was based on the analysis of the results of simulations performed on a 1:170 scale model to compare the effect of various navigations conditions on the mooring lines of a docked ship.

Opis:
In this paper, to improve the mechanical behavior of DeepCwind semi-submersible floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) platform mooring lines, the nonlinear catenary cables of the platform were divided into multi-segment and intermediate buoys. Mathematical formulations of the boundary element method (BEM) governing the dynamics of mooring line systems with buoy devices were described. This study was applied to the OC4-DeepCwind semi-submersible FOWT platform, which is designed for a 200-meter water depth with mooring lines consisting of three catenary steel chain cables at 120° angles to each other. The dynamic response of the multi-segment catenary mooring lines with different buoy radiuses and different positions along the cables was investigated. The full-scale platform was modeled in ANSYS-AQWA software, and the simulations were performed under harsh offshore conditions. The mooring line’s general arrangement, tension, strain and uplift force for different buoy radiuses and their position along the cable are presented and discussed. Moreover, platform motions in three directions (surge, heave, and pitch) were also analyzed. It was concluded that by correctly selecting the buoy volume and position along the cable, the tension of the cable may be reduced by up to 45%. By incorrectly selecting the buoy, the results caused adverse effects.

Opis:
To harness the endless hydrokinetic energy of the Kuroshio current, the joint research team of the National Taiwan University and the National Taiwan Ocean University has developed a floating Kuroshio turbine (FKT) system in Taiwan. In normal operation, the system floats at a certain small depth from the ocean surface to reduce the wave effects and take advantage of faster current speeds. In the present study, the effect of the mooring line on the system dynamics is investigated computationally. Two different auxiliary mooring line designs and, for each design, three different common mooring lines (polyester ropes of neutral buoyancy, iron chains, and 6×19 wires ropes with wire core) are examined. The study makes use of several commercial and in-house packages, integrated to find various coefficients. It is found that the mooring line, the auxiliary mooring line design, and the gravity centre can have a significant effect on system fluctuations in normal operation if the combination of these factors is not properly matched.
