Opis:
This paper analyzes the relationship between permanent monuments and temporary art projects, as temporality is one of the strategies employed by Romanian artists to counterbalance the support that the Romanian state has shown only towards monuments and memorials dedicated to affirming its value. The complex nature of public art requires a careful consideration of the different dimensions this practice employs, and for that the Western debate on this matter can be a reference point in understanding Romanian public art. We will be looking at possible aspects of the functions of these two main directions in Romanian public art, as they stand methodically one in opposition to the other, in connection with the texts of Piotr Piotrowski (Art and Democracy in Post-communist Europe, 2012) and Boris Groys (Art Power, 2008).

The topic of this paper is the issue of the notion and classification of assemblies in Polish law, while its direct aim is to analyse and evaluate the regulations of the above issue after the changes introduced by the Act of 24 July 2015 on the Law of Assemblies (Dz.U. item 1485). The discussion is divided into two parts: the first is devoted to the investigation of the very notion of assembly, the second to the analysis of the topic of classification of assemblies – from the perspective of the form of decision of an administrative authority regarding the permissibility of holding the assembly. Following this criterion, assemblies are divided into ones which only require notification and the silent acceptance of the administrative organ, spontaneous assemblies which do not require notification, assemblies which require prior permission, and finally assemblies in the case of which it is necessary to agree on the time and place of holding the assembly with the operator of the road.

He is also presented, among other masters and poets, on Isocrates’ grave in a way that appears to be consistent with his pupil’s thought. Thus, the author of the iconographic plan of the grave may have been either Isocrates himself or someone who sufficiently knew his works and properly understood his tempestuous relationship with his master.

Opis:
Performance is usually seen as a transient event. Hamlet calls it a thing. How can an event become a thing? Philosophy distinguishes between things and events. The two orders are different. Their difference is articulated in terms of time. Things are continuous, while events are evanescent. Hamlet calls the play within the play a ‘thing’ (Hamlet. II. Ii. 612). He thus thrusts it into the order of the continuous. Levinas introduces the concept of being otherwise. In order to explain the evanescent continuity, we will make use of this concept. Acting introduces a new mode of being that differs from that of writing. It is „eventive” continuity that we wish to speak about. An actor is only otherwise. By this, we mean that s/he is essentially a difference. An actor is only what s/he is not. By being a difference, the actor survives. Actors do not die. It is true that actors are mortals but the role will survive being acted. Unlike writing, where the word survives as a fixed monument, the role survives through repetition. This repetition is a recreation through repetitive simultaneity. When Iago says: I am not what I am (Othello. I. i. 65), he defines himself as a simultaneous difference. To be only as difference is quite challenging. Indeed, if the only mode of being is being otherwise, we speak about pure difference. Pure difference — total otherness that has no other — is the essence of acting. In the following essay, we intend to explore the generic question of temporality through a comparison between the monumentality of writing and that of acting. We will try to explain how a play is a thing, a continuous mode of being.

The palace in Krzesimów was built in the classicist style at the beginning of 19th century. The building is the part of the palace-park complex entered into the register of monuments because of its historical, aesthetical and landscape values. From 1970s, it is the headquarters of a social welfare home. Over the years, this function enforced many changes in the functional layout of the building to adapt it to the needs of people with various types and levels of disability. Despite many minor renovations and modifi cations, the palace didn’t undergo complete overhaul, which would greatly improve the technical condition of the original fabric. This aim of article is to analyse introduced functional changes, which were supposed to facilitate the use of the building by the handicapped, and to consider what actions must be undertaken in order to improve its technical condition. The authors of the paper underline the need to start renovation works on the basis of the archive documentation, as well as conducted survey and research of its current technical condition.

Opis:
The implementation of the new ideological and artistic concept of the Museum and Memorial in Sobibór on the site of the former Nazi German death camp selected in the 2013 competition is discussed. The winning design is analysed; apart from the arranging of the area of the former camp, it also envisaged raising of a museum, the latter stage already completed with the building opened to the public in 2020. The concept of 'space of engagement' is proposed by the Author as best characterising a memorial site created on the premises of the former Nazi concentration camps and death camps for the people of Jewish descent. As a departure point, earlier examples of commemorating similar sites are recalled, beginning with the early monuments from the 1940s, through the 1957 competition for the International Monument to the Victims of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Camp, the latter of major impact on the process of the redefinition of monuments. The then awarded design of the The Road Monument by Oskar Hansen and his team, however unimplemented owing to the protest of former Auschwitz prisoners, became from that time onwards a benchmark for subsequent concepts. Also the mentioned memorial design on the area of the former Belzec extermination camp from 2004 is related to James E. Young’s concept of a counter-monument. The main subject of the paper’s analysis is, however, the reflection on means thanks to which the currently mounted Museum and Memorial in Sobibór, including the permanent display at the newly-raised Museum, become 'space of engagement' for contemporary public on different perception levels of their multi-sensual activity essential in the process of remembrance.
Artykuł dotyczy realizacji nowej koncepcji ideowo-artystycznej Muzeum i Miejsca Pamięci w Sobiborze na terenie byłego niemieckiego nazistowskiego obozu zagłady, wyłonionej w konkursie z 2013 roku.

Aim. This study examines the characteristics of the individuals who go on the journey to Poland, which is a key element of the Holocaust education curriculum in Israel, their personal connection to the Holocaust, as well as the socio-political developments in Israel that attempt to bridge the gap between the various poles in society – between East and West. Concept. Holocaust education includes the formal part, which is the historical narrative, and the informal part, which is the journey to Poland. This study follows the development of Holocaust education and commemoration of the victims of the Holocaust – from the narrative of the Holocaust of the Jews of Europe to the narrative of the Holocaust among the communities of North African descent. Results and conclusion. The findings of the study indicate a link between family support and ties to the Holocaust, and the journey to Poland, which appears to be in line with findings of Nitza Davidovitch and Dan Soen (2011), who found a correlation between the students participating in the journey and their personal connections to the Holocaust, in contrast to students with no family connection with the Holocaust. For all its importance, the journey to Poland has been found to perpetuate social polarisation. Practical applications. The current study highlights the challenge of Holocaust education in order to build a bridge of shared historical destiny through this seminal event of the twentieth century. Originality. This work sparks the question of how to make the journey to Poland a unifying factor in collective national memory.

The status of natural monuments presently found in the city of Częstochowa was confirmed. Described trees are typically native deciduous species, of which the most numerous are Acer platanoides (18 trees) and Tilia cordata (16 trees). Approximately 60% of them have circumferences from 201 to 300 cm. The health condition of surveyed trees is usually very good (84%). A total of 45 trees were selected with circumferences of natural monuments and characterised by a very good health condition, which may be proposed as worthy of protection as natural monuments.

Opis:
According to the tendency that was observed at the turn of the 1940s and 1950s, each provincial town, including Zielona Góra, was to be expanded. At that time in every area of social life, including architecture, there was a fixed set of values and symbols. Urban planning and architecture were to be adapted to the propaganda needs of the new social-political formation. A decision was made to build an elegant building, the seat of the Provincial Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party. The Central Office for Architectural and Construction Projects was entrusted with the project. The team headed by Mikołaj Kokozow designed a building reflecting the tradition of interwar architecture that linked constructivism and so called quasi-classicist modernism. The building at 23 Bohaterów Westerplatte Street in Zielona Góra is an example of socialist realism, which was a dominant style in Polish architecture in the years 1949-1956. The former Party House was designed in quasi-classicist style, decorated with quasi-historical detail. The building has a permanent position in the cultural landscape of Zielona Góra, being part of post-war history and an important element of the continuity of the cultural heritage and history of the town.

Opis:
This article seeks to analyse the provisions of the Polish Act on the protection and care of monuments related to movable monuments in the context of the object of entry in the register of monuments under the currently applicable law, taking into consideration the provisions of the Polish Civil Code related to movable things. The Author presents a discussion of the status of a movable object under civil law as a self-contained thing, a component part or appurtenance of another thing in order to show the difference between a movable monument and a component part of an immovable monument. Currently, this distinction is particularly problematic in practice regarding the registration of sacred art monuments, constituting the equipment or decorations of churches. The practice of entering wall decorations and other flat surfaces of buildings in the register of movable monuments is not consistent with the law. Instead, these should be captured as permanent equipment of immovable monuments (which applies mainly to churches) in one entry – as component parts or appurtenances attached to the immovable monument. The remarks formulated by the Author may serve as the basis for further legislative work with respect to proposed content of legal provisions of the act on the protection and care of monuments. The final part concerns the way of protecting folklore (intangible cultural heritage) by entering movable assets in the register of monuments along with an immovable monument as movable things conceived as appurtenances of a particular place.

This paper provides a historical and genetic analysis of organizational efforts of the professional community and the public, which were aimed at preserving the monuments of Ukrainian architecture of the twentieth century, and reconstruction of the process of formation of activities that unfolded during the period between the 1990s and the 2010s. The conditions of its development and the main reasons for the stagnation of the processes are clarified: delay in several reforms related to the general development of the system of architectural and urban planning. The determined driving forces of the process are public authorities interested in the implementation of image projects, the research community, public activists, relevant international organizations. The periodization has been worked out, five stages of formation of the practice have been singled out, which differed from each other in the following essential features: support from the authorities, degree of involvement of the public, research community and international organizations, the scale of extension and performance results. The promising areas of development of monument protection activity in Ukraine concerning the preservation of modern architecture are offered: conducting research, popularization of modern architecture, development of municipal programs, decentralization of processes, implementation of international standards, development of themed educational programs.
Artykuł przedstawia historyczną analizę oraz genezę działań organizacyjnych społeczności zawodowych i społeczeństwa, których celem było zachowanie zabytków ukraińskiej architektury XX wieku oraz rekonstrukcja procesu formacji działań, a które miały miejsce w okresie pomiędzy latami dziewięćdziesiątymi XX wieku i drugą dekadą XXI wieku. Warunki ich rozwoju oraz główne przyczyny stagnacji tych procesów zostały wyjaśnione opóźnieniem wielu reform związanych z ogólnym rozwojem systemu planowania architektonicznego i urbanistycznego. Ustalone siły napędowe procesu to władze publiczne zainteresowane realizacją projektów o charakterze wizerunkowym, środowisko badawcze, aktywiści publiczni oraz odpowiednie organizacje międzynarodowe.
