In this paper, some issues of building a reliable, distributed measurement system for monitoring of water quality in reservoir Lake Dobczyckie are presented. The system is based on a measurement station that has the shape of a floating buoy which is supposed to be at anchor on the reservoir. Wireless data transmission problems that were encountered during the development of the buoy, modeling a radio link, and measurements of actual signal strength on the reservoir are discussed. A mathematical approach to procedures of early situation assessment was conducted, and specialized procedures were designed for measurement stations of the system. It is also discussed how such computations can improve a qualitative assessment of system performance in terms of real-time messaging.

Opis:
This paper is a presentation of landslide monitoring, early warning and remediation methods recommended for the Polish Carpathians. Instrumentation included standard and automatic on-line measurements with the real-time transfer of data to an Internet web server. The research was funded through EU Innovative Economy Programme and also by the SOPO Landslide Counteraction Project. The landslides investigated were characterized by relatively low rates of the displacements. These ranged from a few millimetres to several centimetres per year. Colluviums of clayey flysch deposits were of a soil-rock type with a very high plasticity and moisture content. The instrumentation consisted of 23 standard inclinometers set to depths of 5–21 m. The starting point of monitoring measurements was in January 2006. These were performed every 1–2 months over the period of 8 years. The measurements taken detected displacements from several millimetres to 40 cm set at a depth of 1–17 m. The modern, on-line monitoring and early warning system was installed in May 2010. The system is the first of its kind in Poland and only one of several such real-time systems in the world. The installation was working with the Local Road Authority in Gorlice. It contained three automatic field stations for investigation of landslide parameters to depths of 12–16 m and weather station. In-place tilt transducers and innovative 3D continuous inclinometer systems with sensors located every 0.5 m were used. It has the possibility of measuring a much greater range of movements compared to standard systems. The conventional and real-time data obtained provided a better recognition of the triggering parameters and the control of geohazard stabilizations. The monitoring methods chosen supplemented by numerical modelling could lead to more reliable forecasting of such landslides and could thus provide better control and landslide remediation possibilities also to stabilization works which prevent landslides

Opis:
Random nature of corona processes in UHV power lines and the accompanying noise is the reason that in practice the best determination of acoustic parameters, necessary for the noise evaluation, is obtained from the continuous monitoring procedure. However because of considerable fluctuations (both the useful signal part and the interfering components), careful selection of monitored parameters is necessary to enable a possibility of automatic determination of the parameters that are required for long-term evaluation of corona noise. In the present work a practical realization is shown for estimation of corona noise parameters, based on the data obtained from continuous monitoring stations, making use of the statistical spectra measurement and characteristic features of corona process acoustic signal. Selected results are presented from continuous monitoring of corona noise generated at a 400 kV power line, with special attention focused on definitions of the measured quantities, which enable automatic estimation of the basic factors required for noise evaluation. Accompanying monitoring of environmental conditions, including humidity, precipitation intensity and fog density, that are well correlated with the corona process intensity, which might definitely increase the filtration efficiency of environmental disturbances and on the other hand, it enables verification of calculation methods applied to corona noise. The paper also contains a description of practical approach to selection signal parameters of corona noise in continuous monitoring stations.

This paper presents the application of a Self-exited Acoustical System (SAS) for monitoring stress changes in the cement plant. The change in the speed of wave propagation, which is associated with a change in the resonance frequency in the system is caused by the deformation of the examined material. The SAS system is based on this phenomenon and can be used for the indirect measurement of the stress changes in the material.
W pracy przedstawiono zastosowanie samowzbudnego akustycznego systemu (SAS) w monitorowaniu zmian naprężeń w fundamencie silosu magazynującego cement.

Opis:
The paper presents the proposal of vibration signal validation algorithms for monitoring of mining machinery. Since several years vibration based condition monitoring is quickly growing, as there is an increasingly important focus on efficient operation and maintenance of very costly equipment used in mining industry. FAMUR Institute, the leading research and development center for FAMUR's Group - one of the biggest producer of mining machinery and equipment, develops machinery monitoring solutions, according to its e-mine strategy. One of key issues in the analysis of vibration signals is the validation of acquired signals. It is a key prerequisite, before any further analysis should be performed. In the paper, a survey of a number of existing validation methods is presented. These methods has been successfully applied in industries such as power generation, wind turbines or railway transport. Presented methods are evaluated from the point of view of heavy industry applications especially for underground mining, where the most important thing is to record correct data without sending useless vibration signals for diagnostic inference. The paper includes a case study, where the real vibration data from high power test stand are analyzed. The object of research was heavy duty gearbox. Proposed methods were also applied for the real data from machines working underground.
W skład tego systemu wchodzi m.in.

The aim of the paper is to present the structure and research potential of the newly created measurement and information system for observing dynamic phenomena occurring in the Earth's crust in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin (USCB) in Poland as a result of mining activities. The structure of the system is similar to the one developed for monitoring the movements of the European tectonic plate under the European Plate Observation System (EPOS) programme. The measurement part of the system consists of stationary devices and sensors working in monitoring mode, installed in various locations of the USCB, both on the surface and underground, as well as data sets from periodically performed measurements using land, air and satellite techniques. The IT part of the system will create a local data centre with specialized and dedicated processing and modelling software in which all measurement data will be archived and processed to a form which enables the analysis of the short and long-term impact of mining operations on the environment. As one of the elements of the system will be observations of the short and long-term gravity and morphology changes, the collected data will enable research in the field of the geodynamics of mining areas to be conducted.

Environmental phenomena have a major impact on our daily lives. These include changes affecting the sources of life such as in the waters and air of our world, which have been degraded in purity. The term ‘smart environment’ is defined as a technology that provides many facilities and solutions for many environmental application issues related to water quality and health, air pollution, weather, radiation monitoring, waste management, natural disaster, and many other environment indicators. Smart environment sensors integrated with ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) technology can provide a new concept in tracking, sensing and monitoring objects of environment. This can provide potential benefits leading up to the possibility of achieving a green world and a sustainable lifestyle. IoT allows environmental sensors to connect with other systems such smart phones through Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to send enormous amounts of data to the network and can allow us to have a better understanding of our surroundings and find suitable solutions for today environmental problems. In this review article, we will provide a brief conception of environment areas of study based on IoT technology and discuss the justification behind using IoT in the field of environmental studies. Moreover, we will investigate many proposed applications of environmental research based upon IoT.

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is a natural extension and supplement of Non-Distractive Tests (NDT). Structure assessment during periodical NDT tests is performed by highly trained human team. However, during long sea voyage, ship crew has no knowledge and possibility for detailed assessment and, what is more, has no knowledge lifetime predicting of ship structure. SHM systems should have good designed sensors types, distribution, and automatic recording unit. However, most important (and most difficult for designing) is autonomous and self-contained procedures for marine structures hazard assessment. In the paper, basic assumptions for numerical algorithms of signal processing, damage identification and localization, threat assessment and forecasting of structure lifetime are presented. SHM systems can be based on several different measurements techniques like: comparative vacuum monitoring, electromagnetic layer, Lamb waves, vibration based methods, acoustic emission, and fibre optics. Last three methods are most promising in the marine environment, according to the author experience. Global ship hull deformation should be monitored as quasi-continuous measurements. Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer method (OTDR) is planned by author for hull global deformation monitoring. Some local strain-stress concentration of hull structure and propulsion system bearings' reactions will be monitored by Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors. Both techniques (OTDR and FBG) have been shortly described in the paper.

Opis:
Effectiveness of the contemporary maritime transport depends largely on already implemented intelligent shipping and maritime environment monitoring systems, which are simultaneously responsible for improvement of the maritime transportation process, management and widely understood safety and security. Recently noticed, diversification of existing shipping monitoring systems is based on a different range of covered areas, direct benefits for end-users as well as technical specifications of modern maritime sensors. Nowadays, a totally new approach has been developed as a response to growing demand for integration of all existing maritime systems and building a common platform for maritime data exchange. This solution is expected to be a cost-effective tool in gathering, transforming and dissemination of an integrated and comprehensive recognized maritime picture and relevant maritime data. This paper represents the holistic approach to identification of important factors having impact on possible implementation of such a system. The working hypothesis stating that there are systematic reasons for implementation of a single, common and integrated platform of maritime data exchange has been positively proved. As an example of efforts already taken by European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) on the EU seas, the experimental Integrated Maritime Data Environment (IMDatE) solutions have been presented.

Modern, highly concurrent, and large-scale systems require new methods for design, testing, and monitoring. Their dynamics and scale require real-time tools that provide a holistic view of the whole system and the ability to show a more detailed view when needed. Such tools can help identify the causes of unwanted states, which is hardly possible with a static analysis or metrics-based approach. In this paper, a new tool for the analysis of distributed systems in Erlang is presented. It provides the real-time monitoring of system dynamics on diferent levels of abstraction. The tool has been used for analyzing a large-scale urban trafic simulation system running on a cluster of 20 computing nodes.
