Opis:
Results of Quaternary aquifer flow calculations are presented for the Vistula Delta Plain and the southern Kashubian Lakeland edge zone. The Quaternary level is one of the most important water supply resources for the city of Gdansk. The numerical simulations of groundwater flow were performed using the Modflow and Modpath codes and the Groundwater Modeling System (GMS 3.1) package. Calculations representing the state prior to the launch of the Lipce intake were performed under steady state conditions. The model was calibrated, which enabled simulation of groundwater flow under transient conditions. Calculation for the years 1969-1985 have shown the evolution of a Quaternary aquifer depression cone. The inflow from river Dead Vistula to the Quaternary aquifer is recognized through particle path solution for a selected water particle. The numerical solution has confirmed the observed increase of Cl- ions in the Grodza Kamienna intake after 1969.

Opis:
Iran, being located in arid and semi-arid regions, faces an increase in human demand for water, and the global climate change has led to the excessive use of groundwater. China, India and Iran were ranked from first to third, respectively, in excessive groundwater consumption in 2005. The effects of effective parameters on groundwater recharge such as precipitation, surface recharge and well water harvesting in the Karvan aquifer are assessed. Groundwater flow models have typically been and are being adopted since the beginning of this millennium to better manage groundwater resources. The decrease in groundwater level and the potential environmental hazards thereof have made the researchers here to apply the Groundwater Modelling System (GMS software) in 3D in the subject area. This modelling is calibrated and validated for 86 months at steady and unsteady states. In this study, six scenarios are defined as both an increase and a decrease of 30% in precipitation, both an increase and a decrease of 30% in surface recharge, an increase of 10% in well water harvesting and a decrease of 30% in well water harvesting. The best scenario is selected for the subject area water management.

Opis:
This article concerns the calculation of the Groundwater Protection Zones (GWPZ) of the Pozharan/Požaranje wellfield. It shows the methodology of delineating water source protection zones with a hydrogeological computer model and serves as an example for further work in this field. The wellfield is located in the south-eastern part of Kosovo, about 1 km west of Viti/Vitia and is an important water supply source for the neighboring villages. The wellfield is located 35 km southeast of Prishtina/Priština, the capital city of Kosovo. A total of four public water production wells have been drilled into the aquifer for which the protection zones will be calculated. In order to delineate the Groundwater Protection Zones according to the Kosovar regulations, a groundwater model was set up to calculate the groundwater flow in the well field. Data has to be collected to create such a model. With help of previous studies and own investigations, the aquifer was identified. A large part of the work is finding observation wells (piezometers) in the study area and measuring its height and groundwater level. Afterwards, the model was calibrated. The model is capable of calculating flow paths and by means of particle tracking, it is possible to visualize where the water comes from. Adding the speed of groundwater flow, the time dependent zones can be drawn. Finally, the three protection zones were described as well as the proposed land use restrictions and the recommendations for land use planning were described. Several hazards to groundwater were identified and described inside those zones.

Opis:
Results of the Vistula Delta Plain Quaternary recharge analysis are presented in this paper. This region is situated south of Gdańsk city near the Bay of Gdańsk. There are two municipal intakes situated on the Vistula Delta Plain: Lipce and Grodza Kamienna. Different exploitation of the municipal intakes is considered. The numerical calculations are made for the pre- 1969 period before the Lipce intake started discharging the Quaternary aquifer in the steady-state conditions and for the 15 years period after the opening of the Lipce intake, in the transient conditions. The results of calculations of the natural state of the Vistula Delta Plain Quaternary aquifer are also presented. The numerical calculations were carried out using the Modflow and Modpath code in Groundwater Modelling System (GMS 2.1) package. Presented results of numerical calculations show that the Quaternary aquifer exploited by groundwater intakes Lipce and Grodza Kamienna is connected with inflow from the Martwa Wisła River into the Vistula Delta Plain Quaternary aquifer and confirm the Quaternary aquifer groundwater flow evaluation based on Cl– ions concentration in the observation wells.
