Opis:
Within the channel zone of the Middle Vistula River, elevations of the Holocene alluvial basement occur, composed of deposits resistant to erosion. In this paper two kinds of such forms are discussed. Within the Małopolska gorge (an upstream part of the Middle Vistula, near Kępa Gostecka and Zakrzów), the elevations are composed mainly of Upper Cretaceous and Paleogene rocks covered with clayey debris and residual lags. Below this, the elevations are built of Paleogene and Neogene soils as well as of various Pleistocene glacial deposits, and are of ten covered by residual lags. This type of valley stretch occurs in the vicinity of Dęblin. The surface of the erosion-resistant Holocene alluvial basement averages at 5-7 m below the mean water level. It is exposed on the channel bottom during high-water stages, as seen from a residual layer and from the low density of the contemporary channel deposits above them. The morphology of these elevations influences the pattern of the main stream also during mean-water stages. The trend to flood flow concentrations is also seen in the relief of the floodplain.

Opis:
Most of the heterocorals described up to now from strata older than Famennian are of doubtful affinities. Numerous specimens of the new genus and new species here described were collected during a sedimentological study of the Santa Lucía Formation in La Pola de Gordon (León province, Cantabrian Mountains, NW Spain). Stellaphyllia luciensis gen. et sp. nov. is characterized by cylindrical coralla, with a diameter of less than 2 mm and more than 2 cm long, having stellate to more or less rounded outer profile. Four to six septa, less frequently seven, are cojoined axially by a short oblique septum. The few tabulae present are steeply arched. The microstructure of the septa and interseptal elements shows thin elongate microlamellae parallel to a median plate which is granular in appearance. The new genus dated to the lower Eifelian age could be important in understanding the early phylogeny and origin of the order Heterocorallia.

Opis:
Integrative studies of sedimentary and palaeontological topics for unconformity surfaces are useful in basin analysis. A middle Bathonian unconformity surface in the Ammonitico Rosso facies cropping out in the La Mola Unit (Subbetic Domain, Betic External Zone) was studied by integrating ichnological, palaeotectonic, and sedimentological analyses to decipher sea-level, tectonic, and palaeogeographic conditions during its development. The trace-fossil assemblage mainly consists of the Glossifungites (Thalassinoides, Arenicolites, and Gastrochaenolites) and Trypanites ichnofacies elements. Probable Ophiomorpha represents previous softground stages, Thalassinoides and Arenicolites were formed in firmground, Gastrochaenolites reflects an evolved firmground or early hardground, and Trypanites can be attributed to an incipient hardground. The degree of firmness, relative sea-level position, and continuity of deposition were related. The softground stage corresponds to a fall in relative sea level and continued deposition. The firmground (semi-consolidated substrate) probably reflects an extremely low sea level characterized by non-deposition, whereas the incipient hardground stage indicates an initial phase of relative sea-level rise, with an increase in marine current energy. The presence of two neptunian dyke systems reflects significant tectonic activity related to the transtensional deformation that affected the South Iberian Palaeomargin. Lateral variations in sedimentological and ichnological features recorded at similar discontinuity surfaces in nearby areas were considered and related to differences in bottom topography, with associated changes in sedimentation, and to the variable duration of the hiatus.

Opis:
A sedimentary succession in a gravel pit at Niedźwiedziny was investigated in order to determine its origin: kame or moraine. The gravel pit is located in an isolated hill of approx. 600 m long and 250–400 m wide. The succession is built of glaciofluvial deposits: a sandy/gravelly unit in the lower and middle parts, overlain by diamicton. Five lithofacies have been distinguished, which represent two facies associations: (1) a fluvial association evolving from a high-energy to a transitional to a shallow braided river on an alluvial fan, and (2) an association of cohesive deposits representing a glacigenic mass flow. The interpretation is based mainly on palaeocurrent data and differs from conclusions by earlier investigators. The ice-marginal zone is characterised by a large variety of glaciomarginal forms. Their sedimentology, morphology and palaeogeography are determined by successive phases of deglaciation. The results of the present study show that the character of the deglaciation in the study area changed with time from frontal to areal deglaciation.

Opis:
A population of Hydrobia sp. (Hydrobia ulvae Pennant and Hydrobia ventrosa Montagu) was studied in the Polish coastal zone (up to 3 nautical miles) of the Baltic Sea within the open coast of Polish Middle Pomerania. Abundance, wet biomass, and the frequency of Hydrobia were determined in the coastal waters, including estuaries of the Wieprza, Słupia, Łupawa, Łeba rivers and open coastal in the vicinity of Czołpino (Słowinski National Park) and Władysławowo. The frequency (F) of Hydrobia in the open coast of the Middle Pomerania amounted to 39%, while in the coastal zone of the open sea (Czołpino and Władysławowo) there were no snails. The abundance of Hydrobiidae, in the coastal zone surveyed, ranged from 0 to 398 specimens per m-2 of the bottom ( x = 33.7 spec. m–2). Wet biomass of this bivalve ranged from 0 to 12.0 gww m-2 ( x = 1.0 gww m-2). Apparently Hydrobia sp. has found better conditions for living and development in the estuary Middle Pomerania coast compared to open coastal. The abundance of this gastropods in the estuary zone was 27-fold higher than in the open coast and the wet weight was about 1.5-fold higher, respectively. Hydrobiidae plays an important role in the monitoring of benthos of the Baltic Sea, not constitutes a distinct food base of animals (fish and other hydrobionts).
Badano populacje ślimaków Hydrobia sp. (Hydrobia ulvae Pennant i Hydrobia ventrosa Montagu) w polskiej strefie przybrzeżnej Bałtyku (max. do 3 Mm) w otwartym wybrzeżu Pomorza Środkowego.
