Opis:
The author analyses two specific communicative events within the political discourse in the current work. The analysis involves a dialogue between two politicians who meet face to face in a TV studio and the subsequent communication taking place on the Internet after the dialogue was made public. The utilization of offensive communicative strategies is a typical feature in political media communication where a communicating party attacks the communication counterpart with the intention of challenging his/her positive face and emphasizing his/her negative character traits in front of potential voters, while at the same time emphasizing his/her own positive values. For this reason, the author analyses the individual strategies employed by politicians with this intention in a particular communicative event. The work provides an entire chapter dealing with strategies used by participants in an Internet discussion. In this case, the communication takes place among speakers who do not know each other, so the aim of the work is to investigate whether attacks against one’s face take place even in this kind of communication, and if so, what personality traits of the communicants are attacked.

The article moves the problem of building customer engagement in social media. Attention is drawn to the fact that in the activities of companies in social media, it's not about building the largest community around them, but above all about making it involved. The aim of the research was to present determinants influencing fans' engagement on the example of analysis of Facebook profiles of the best interactive agencies & PR in Poland. As the main hypothesis, it was assumed that the size of Facebook profile determined by the number of fans does not affect the fans' engagement.

Opis:
The background of the problem analysed in the article is Brexit and its mediatization, consisting of an attempt to shape social reality through the media. The UK’s decision to leave the EU was an important issue for Polish migrants in the UK. This community is an important research field because it is one of Europe’s largest and most active. The reason for undertaking the research was the importance of the impact of information on the decisions of individuals and the diverse policies and information activities of Polish and British authorities. The article aims to determine the sources of knowledge about Brexit and to analyse the assessment of information activities carried out by Polish and British authorities in the opinion of Poles living in the United Kingdom. A quantitative sociological study was conducted in September and October 2019 using a survey questionnaire based on a deliberately selected sample of 620 Poles living in London, Oxford and Swindon. These cities differ in terms of social structure, living conditions and standards, and the nature of the work undertaken by migrants from Poland. The procedure of comparing means (ANOVA) is used in the statistical analysis. It was found that Polish information activities were more often negatively assessed than British ones, and that both media and non-media sources of knowledge influenced this assessment.

The objective of this article is to present major aspects of linguistic studies of emotions. The studies rely on cognitive linguistics methodology, which encompasses both the spoken and written language, as well as non-verbal communication. Communicative aspects are of great importance, making it possible to observe the interaction between language and emotions. Emotionally-charged lexis and so-called “hate speech” are exemplary manifestations of linguistic emotional expressions. Contemporary studies of language used in the media concentrate on an analysis of means of linguistic expression, cognitive definitions and mechanisms which generate emotions. The results of this study can be applied to various types of the media, they can help the media reach their target audience and engage the audience in the presented message.
Wyniki tych badań mogą być zastosowane w różnego typu mediach, mogą pomóc w dotarciu do grupy docelowej i zaangażowaniu odbiorców w prezentowany przekaz.

Recently, the whole of Europe, including Poland, have been significantly affected by COVID-19 and its social and economic consequences which are already causing dozens of billions of euros monthly losses in Poland alone. Social behaviour has a fundamental impact on the dynamics of the spread of infectious diseases such as SARS-CoV-2, challenging the existing health infrastructure and social organization. Modelling and understanding mechanisms of social behaviour (e.g. panic and social distancing) and its contextualization with regard to Poland can contribute to better response to the outbreak on a national and local level. In the presented study we aim to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 on society by: (i) measuring the relevant activity in internet news and social media; (ii) analysing attitudes and demographic patterns in Poland. In the end, we are going to implement computational social science and digital epidemiology research approach to provide urgently needed information on social dynamics during the outbreak. This study is an ad hoc reaction only, and our goal is to signal the main areas of possible research to be done in the future and cover issues with direct or indirect relation to public health.

The paper discusses verbal aggressiveness and (im)politeness in media and online communication. The analysis focuses on transcriptions of communicative acts by participants of the TV reality Spread! ("Prostřeno!", a Czech version of the programme Come Dine with me) and viewers' comments in related online discussions. The analysis indicated that the use of face-threatening acts was determined by a type of communicative interaction and interlocutors' social roles. Striving to construct a positive self-image, the participants in the show did not take the risk of losing their face due to usage of derogatory or vulgar expressions in face-to-face inter- actions. The anonymous online discussions, on the contrary, did not pose any risk for the positive faces of the speakers; therefore, the interlocutors showed clear tendency to either appreciate and support, or attack the contestants as well as other speakers.

Digital literacy and related digital competences are now an integral part of media work. Changes in technology and audience consumption habits have forced media professionals to acquire a wide range of digital skills. These include not only technical skills, such as mastery of digital tools and platforms, but also the ability to communicate and present content effectively in a digital environment. The aim of this study is to explore the level of digital competences of students who work in university media, compared to those who study at the faculty but are not part of its media. It also focuses on identifying the level of each of the DigComp framework’s digital competence areas that future media workers should develop in order to remain competitive. Research has shown that students working in university media have a higher total score in digital competence (75%) than students not working in (university) media (65%). It was also found that the most developed area for both groups of students is Communication and collaboration, followed by Information and data literacy. In contrast, the weakest area for both groups is Digital content creation. In terms of specific competencies, both groups have the same most developed competency, Netiquette, and the least developed competency, Programming. In general, however, students not working in (university) media have a total score in digital competence as well as in individual areas at the same level as the Generation Z average, and students working in university media are above the Generation Z average in all areas, confirming that working in media alongside media studies has a positive impact on raising levels of digital competence.

This article analizes the causes of a dissonance between significant collective civilizational progress and injudicious individual choice. To show these causes, five basic hypotheses are presented, based on inter-disciplinary analyses : viz. political manipulation, media manipulation, an ineffective education system, inadequate scientific communication, and misunderstanding. The possibility of constructing social consensus and harmony can be perceived in the general education of knowledgable and responsible teachers on all levels and spheres of education, who will be able to explain the complexity of the world and transform the educational system.

Media and communication are subjects which are closely related. For quite some time in each public debate references are made to an increasing dependence between media and communication processes. Explicit attention is paid to a changing context of the communication process, and especially the process of political communication. The role of media in the process of public communication is, on the one hand, quite traditional; that is to inform the public, popularize information and mobilize citizens to action, all in the name of the public good. On the other hand, it is also noticeable that modern media play new roles such as providers of entertainment, scandals, sensation, enjoyment. All this brings a question: which of these functions tell us about the future of the media, and – consequently – how do they change the process of political communication in the public sphere? And is this what we want?

During the coronavirus pandemic, one of the main communication channels used to inform citizens was social media. Social media enables people to communicate with each other by removing time and spatial constraints to share knowledge, experience, opinions and ideas. This study provides insights about how government communication through social media is perceived by the citizens during the coronavirus. To analyze this matter, 306 German citizens were asked in an online survey about how they perceived government social media communication. Key findings include the following: (1.) Ci- tizens mainly get information about the coronavirus pandemic on social media channels, (2.) Citizens perceive social media as a communication channel during the corona pandemic between useful and essential and, (3.) Social media is mainly chosen by the citizens as a communication channel because of the possibility to interact with others. These findings will help governments develop future strate- gies to foster communication addressing its citizen via social media channels more efficiently.
