Opis:
This paper presents findings from an extensive study into factors that impact upon the high rate of injuries due to mechanical equipment, especially in small manufacturing firms. Issues relating to knowledge of health and safety issues and to management practices have been shown to be extremely important with regards to safety in smaii businesses. Knowledge and awareness of hazards were found to be relatively low and few respondents, especially managers, had received adequate safety training. Managers did not regard the identification and control of risks as a priority. Workplaces generally lacked effective safety management procedures such as safety rules and regulations, procedures for recording and learning from accidents, and clearly defined responsibilities for safety. Some issues requiring further investigation, and some recommendations for improving safety in small businesses, are presented.

Opis:
The paper aims at determining the relationship between age and degree of wear of selected technical fixed assets in farms. The correlation and regression analyses were performed for age as an independent variable and physical wear and functional wear as dependent variables. The research comprised 90 farms in southern Poland and focused mainly on farm buildings and mechanical equipment used in the farms. The results indicate, inter alia, an average or strong correlation between age and physical wear and a significantly weaker correlation between age and functional wear.
Badania przeprowadzono w 90 gospodarstwach rolniczych Polski południowej. Zakresem badań objęto najczęściej występujące w gospodarstwach obiekty budowlane oraz sprzęt mechaniczny. Stwierdzono m. in. w przypadku większości obiektów budowlanych i wszystkich obiektów mechanicznych przeciętny lub silny związek korelacyjny pomiędzy wiekiem a zużyciem fizycznym oraz znacznie mniejsze zależności korelacyjne pomiędzy wiekiem a zużyciem funkcjonalnym.

Opis:
Expert Systems can be defined as computer programs, whose main task is to simulate a human expert, usually in a narrow field of expertise. Expert Systems have experienced tremendous growth and popularity since their commercial introduction in the early 1970’s. Today, Expert Systems are used in business, science, engineering, manufacturing and other engineering applications such as planning, scheduling, diagnosing equipment failures and are used in almost every stage of the manufacturing process and also in medicine and many other fields. Expert Systems belong to the field of artificial intelligence. An intelligent computer program that uses knowledge and inference procedures to solve problems that are difficult enough to require significant human expertise for the solution. The purpose of this paper is to present an Expert System which assists with the design of yachts and supports the selection of mechanical equipment for yachts and includes knowledge in the field of yachting engineering. Using the presented Expert System reduces the time during the design and production preparation process.

Opis:
The article was inspired by information in the literature regarding damage to medium-pressure diving hoses, which, as a result of the crystallisation of material on their inner surface and the detachment of particles, caused significant interference with the output of the pressure regulator. A dangerous consequent 'clogging' of the airflow in stage II of the breathing apparatus and an increase in the effort in the diver's lungs to overcome the increased breathing resistance resulted. This problem was investigated in the paper. Nozzles with reduced diameters were fabricated to simulate the deterioration of the automaton conditions. A suitably selected regulator from a domestic manufacturer's was used for the tests. A series of measurements was carried out in a breathing simulator for the established experimental conditions specified in the standard PN-EN 250:2014. Following the test, the results obtained were analysed and interpreted based on statistical description methods.

Opis:
The author undertakes to systematise and compare various types of losses of the technical and functional properties of equipment related to diving with other areas of human activity in which technical equipment is used. The basis for this is the extensive literature describing, inter alia, the issues of wear and tear of machine parts, their damage, failures, etc. a phenomena occurring in the “life” of virtually every technical object. The specificity of diving techniques makes it a relatively little analysed segment of activity from the perspective of exploitation. Based on the analysis of publications and own materials, the author has reviewed and matched them in terms of similarity of loss of technical and functional properties of various elements of diving technology in relation to the divisions and criteria used in generally understood utilisation.

Opis:
The field of personal protective equipment (PPE) has led to several high technology innovations. Indeed, improved protection against the various possible encountered risks is looked for, in particular at the workplace. This has generated the development of new materials and new manufacturing technologies, as well as the introduction of new applications for existing ones. However, the remaining challenges are numerous. This paper presents some of the new technologies introduced in the field of protective clothing against heat and flames, mechanical risks and chemical aggressors. It also describes new challenges that are currently worked on, in particular the effect of service aging and the need for testing methods that reproduce realuse conditions. Finally, it discusses various existing and potential applications of nanomaterials and smart textiles for PPE.

Opis:
The operation of various types of machinery and equipment constituting a material work environment exposes employees to many different hazards (especially mechanical hazards). According to the Polish law, the basic duty of both machine manufacturers and employers is to limit the level of these hazards and to provide employees with broadly understood safety. The article presents the basic issues related to the technical safety of laser cutter operators on the example of a selected industrial plant. Technical and organizational solutions used to reduce the level of risk associated with the use of the selected machine were assessed.
