Opis:
The study was conducted in July - August 2018 with the aim of analyzing the concentration of lead heavy metals (Pb) in water, sediment and macrozoobenthos in the Karangsong waters area, Indramayu Regency. The research method used is a survey method with purposive sampling technique that is the determination of location based on the existence of certain objectives and in accordance with various considerations, then observed the content of lead metal (Pb) in the Central Laboratory of Padjadjaran University. The research was conducted in situ and exsitu. Parameters of insitu research include temperature, pH and DO carried out in Karangsong waters, Indramayu Regency. Exsitu research parameters include testing of lead metal (Pb) on water, sediment and macrozoobenthos conducted at the Central Laboratory of Padjadjaran University. The results showed that the Pb concentration in the Karangsong waters had exceeded the threshold, which ranged between 1,05 – 1,33 mg/l, while the Pb concentration in sediment was higher than the Pb concentration in water. Lead metal in sediment has not exceeded the threshold. The ability of macrozoobenthos to accumulate lead metal in water and sediment (Bioconcentration Factor / BCF) is included in the low accumulative category because BCF is less than 100.

Opis:
Molluscs represent a simple and significant model system to test how specific metals can simultaneously affect development and putative mechanisms of defense and/or cell death. Lamellidens marginalis (Bivalvia: Eulamellibranchiata) are the molluscs of Indian freshwater ecosystem and important biological resources. Lead (Pb) is widespread heavy metal that is released into the environment from different sources. Their accumulation in the soils can become dangerous to all kinds of organisms, including plants, animals and human life, causing many adverse effects. Lamellidens are used as reliable markers and bioindicators highly sensitive to environmental changes. The aim of the present work was to determine the toxic effect of lead on the cytomorphology of hemocytes of Lamellidens marginalis and to evaluate its potential as a bio monitor for detecting a heavy-metal polluted environment. Treated cells showed apoptosis and paraptosis (vacuolation) like features. Morphological analyses suggested an irretrievable destruction of normal morphology of hemocyte. However further studies are needed to investigate this topic, particularly in relation to the pollutants reported in this paper.

Opis:
In this research, the batch removal of Pb2+ ions from wastewater and aqueous solution with the use o two different modified algae Gracilaria corticata (red algae) and Sargassum glaucescens (brown algae) was examined. The experiment was performed in a batch system and the effect of the pH solution; initial concentration and contact time on biosorption by both biomasses were investigated and compared. When we used S. glaucescens as a biosorbent, the optima conditions of pH, Pb2+ concentration and equilibrium time were at 5, 200 mg/L and 70 min, in the range of 95.6% removal. When G. corticata was used for this process, pH 3, 15 mg/L pb2+ concentration and 50 min contact time, resulted in the maximum removal (86.4%). The equilibrium adsorption data are fitted to the Frundlich and Langmuir isotherm model, by S. glaucescens and G. corticata, respectively. The pb2+ uptake by both biosorbent was best described by the second-order rate model.

Opis:
The aim of that publication was the presentation of previous and planned research concerning selected vascular plants and soils near Olkusz (Southern Poland). The extremely high concentration of heavy metals in soils from that region was caused by the natural geochemical aureoles of dispersed metals (due to weathering of Zn-Pb-Fe ore sulphides) and mining and processing of shallowly occurring metalliferous deposits (containing Ag-Pb and Zn-Pb ores) since XII century. The condition of stress in metals, shortage of water and some plant nutrition led to formation of some adaptable vegetation features by plants growing in that region. Some species called metallophytes have been already detailed investigated. Moreover some geochemical and pedological research of soil have been already done. However the conditions of habitat of pioneering species such as Koeleria glauca and Corynephorus canescens are not still recognized.

Opis:
Among a number of climate-related factors, moisture has the greatest impact on crop productivity. In recent years, certain changes have been observed under conditions of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine with regard to precipitation – from low to in some cases – abnormally high, which requires the study of their impact on the yield and safety of cereal grain for its forecasted production. The article examined the effect of a high level of soil moisture (256.2–272.5 mm) and a low level (47.4–52.3 mm) during the growing season (germination→earing) of spring barley grain on the accumulation of heavy metals in it and its productivity under the conditions of gray forest soils of the Right Bank Forest Steppe of Ukraine. Spring barley varieties Helios and Caesar were selected for the research. A decrease in the accumulation coefficient at a high level of soil moisture (256.6–272.5 mm) in spring barley grain Pb from 8.3% to 11.3%, Cd – from 35.0% to 35.5%, Zn was established – by 15% and Cu – from 11.2% to 16.6% compared to the low level of soil moisture (47.1 mm – 53.3 mm). At the same time, it was found that with a high level of soil moisture, there is a decrease in the yield of Helios and Caesar spring barley by 18.0% and 14.1%, respectively.

Opis:
The possibility to obtain of ceramic solid solution between barium titanate and lead magnesium niobate by two-step sintering technique through conventional solid-state reaction method has been investigated. In the first step MgNb2O6 has been synthesized. In the second step 0.95BaTiO3-0.05Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 has been obtained using MgNb2O6, PbO and BaTiO3. The two-step sintering technique is effective for the synthesized of 0.95BaTiO3-0.05Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 ceramics. Single-phase (pyrochlore-free) ceramics with perovskite phase were obtained.

Opis:
Mass balance of selected heavy metals (Cu, Cr, Pb, Hg, Zn, Cd) released from waste into leachate during 8 years of landfill exploitation has been calculated. The average release of all analyzed heavy metals did not exceed 1.7%. Heavy metals released in the largest quantities were Cr (0.025 –1.685%), Hg (0.033–1.540%) and Cd (0.082–0.701%). Release of Pb, Cu, Zn was 0.008–0.152%; 0.012–0.085% and 0.007–0.152%, respectively. Cr and Hg do not form an insoluble sulfide precipitate and that is why they are released in a larger amount. Cd and Pb concentrations are positively correlated with the amount of the atmospheric precipitation and the amount of leachates, which means that infiltrating rainfall can leach out these metals from waste. Favorable conditions for leaching of these metals are probably a result of their precipitation as carbonates. A strong correlation between Cu, Zn, and Cr indicates they do not precipitate as carbonates and further they can be subject to desorption processes. In the case of Cu, Zn, Cr and Hg, a positive correlation with the amount of deposited waste was also observed.
