Opis:
The potential of rice husks powder (RHP), for the removal of Congo red dye from aqueous solution was investigated. Batch adsorption studies were conducted and various parameters such as contact time, adsorbent dosage, initial dye concentration, pH and temperature were studied to observe their effects in the dye adsorption process. The optimum conditions for the adsorption of CR onto the adsorbent (RHP) was found to be: contact time (100 min) pH (10.0) and temperature (303 K) for an initial dye concentration of 50 mg/l and adsorbent dose of 1.0 g respectively. The experimental equilibrium adsorption data fitted best and well to the Freundlich Isotherm model for both dyes adsorption. The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 33.88 mg/g for the adsorption of CR dye. The kinetic data conformed to the pseudo second order kinetic model. Thermodynamic quantities such as Gibbs free energy (ΔGº), enthalpy (ΔHº) and entropy (ΔSº) were evaluated and the negative values of ΔGº, ΔHº and ΔSº obtained indicate the spontaneous and exothermic nature of the adsorption process.

Opis:
Removal of water soluble Reactive Black KN-B from aqueous media by means of titanium dioxide/attapulgite (TiO2/ATP) composites was studied in a batch system. The composites were investigated using X-ray diffraction and surface area analysis. Under UV irradiation, the photocatalytic effect of TiO2/ATP composites, pH and reaction temperature on the decolorization rate of Reactive Black KN-B were investigated in detail. The adsorption experiments of TiO2/ATP composites showed that the isotherms and adsorption kinetics were well followed by the Langmuir model and the zero order equation, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity of TiO2/ATP composites for Reactive Black KN-B calculated by the Langmuir model was 20.08 mg g-1. It can be concluded that the TiO2/ATP composites could be good photocatalysts/adsorbents for treating Reactive Black KN-B wastewater.

Opis:
Agricultural waste products including sunflower seed hulls, pumpkin seed shells, walnut shells and peanut shells were used as low-cost adsorbents for the removal of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP) from aqueous solutions. The effects of adsorbent dosage, pH and ionic strength on the adsorption of TCP were investigated. The results showed that the adsorption of TCP was pH dependent and increased upon increasing the ionic strength of the solution. The adsorption kinetics was found to follow a pseudo-second order kinetics. The equilibrium adsorption data were fitted to the Langmuir, Freundlich and Sips isotherms and the best results were achieved with the Freundlich model. The desorption of TCP using deionized water, water/methanol mixture or 5% sodium hydroxide was also studied. The results suggest that the tested materials may be used as an effective adsorbents without any treatment or any other modification for removal of TCP from the aqueous medium.
