Opis:
The formation of small ammonia clusters is investigated experimentally with a supersonic free molecular jet of NH$\text{}_{3}$-X binary mixtures (X = Ar, He, N$\text{}_{2}$), with a special attention paid to the effect of second species X on the cluster formation. The ion currents of protonated ammonia clusters (NH$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{n}$H$\text{}^{+}$(n=2-6) were measured with a combined cluster source system and a double focussing sector field mass spectrometer. Experiments were made both by changing the species concentration at a constant total pressure and by changing the total pressure with a constant composition of each mixture. The NH$\text{}_{3}$ mole fraction in the tested gas mixtures ranges from 10 to 100% (pure ammonia). It is observed that the formation process of ammonia clusters strongly depends on the nature of the carrier gas and its percentage in the gas mixture. The most likely explanation seems to depend on the unique properties of the free jets; the thermal anisotropy, the spatial cooling, and the mass separation effects.

In the present communication, a new relationship for the temperature dependences of elastic constants are developed using a new expression for the temperature dependence of bulk modulus and the formulation derived from Tallon's model. The proposed relationship is applied to study elastic constants of NaCl, KCl, CaF$\text{}_{2}$, MgO, CaO, and Mg$\text{}_{2}$SiO$\text{}_{4}$. The result obtained for second-order elastic constants are found to compare well with the experimental data.

Opis:
(Ki)Nubi is an Arabic-lexifier creole, spoken in Kenya and Uganda. Its substrate includes a wide range of languages, of various genetic affiliations: Nilo-Saharan (Acholi, Avokaya, Baka, Bari, Belanda Bor, Bongo, Didinga, Dinka, Jur, Lendu, Lotuho, Lugbara, Luo, Ma’di, Mamvu, Moru, Nuer, Päri, Shilluk) , as well as Niger-Congo (Mundu and Zande). The adstrate languages, all Niger-Congo, are Bangala, Swahili and Luganda. The present paper looks at a number of selected features of (Ki)Nubi which can be attributed to substrate and adstrate influence and which are attested in the earliest extant records of the language: Wtterwulghe (1904), Cook (1905), Jenkins (1909), Meldon (1913), and Owen & Keane (1915). Since (Ki)Nubi is believed to have creolized by the end of the 19th century, the records examined provide insights into the earlier stages of the language. The issues covered are developments in the phonology, calques, and loanwords. The analysis of the phonology of early (Ki)Nubi focuses on instances of substitutions of consonants and vowels, the occurrence of variation, “imported” phonemes, and the repair strategies employed for syllable restructuring. The calques recorded in early (Ki)Nubi are shown to be indicative of the existence of areal features, cutting across genetic affiliations. Wherever possible, loanwords are traced to their source languages. Also examined is the possibility of multiple etymology in the case of lexical items attested in several of the substrate and/or adstrate languages.

In this paper, a new isothermal equation of state is developed based on an approximation for the volume dependence of the Anderson-Grüneisen parameter $δ_T$ along isotherm. The values of interatomic separation r with the change of pressure for nine alkali halides and periclase were investigated with the help of the new isotherm equation of state. The compression data are used to predict the pressure dependence of the coefficient of volume thermal expansion. The results are compared with the available experimental data and other theoretical results.

The pathologists follow a systematic and partially manual process to obtain histological tissue sections from the biological tissue extracted from patients. This process is far from being perfect and can introduce some errors in the quality of the tissue sections (distortions, deformations, folds and tissue breaks). In this paper, we propose a deep learning (DL) method for the detection and segmentation of these damaged regions in whole slide images (WSIs). The proposed technique is based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and uses the U-net model to achieve the pixel-wise segmentation of these unwanted regions. The results obtained show that this technique yields satisfactory results and can be applied as a pre-processing step for automatic WSI analysis in order to prevent the use of the damaged areas in the evaluation processes.

Opis:
The paper presents a psychoacoustical evaluation of selected acoustic signals, which according to Polish and international recommendations can be applied at pedestrian crosswalks. The aim of the study was the optimal adjustment of parameters of the signals emitted at pedestrian crosswalks, and to meet the expectations of persons with vision impairments as well as nearby residents or workers working near the crossing. The psychoacoustical evaluation of acoustic signals consists of determination of the hearing threshold of signals in the quiet, detection of signals presented against a background of various types of traffic noises (estimated signal-to-noise ratio) and annoyance assessment of signals. Three types of intermittent sounds were analysed: signals with rectangular time pattern filled up with rectangular wave, signals with rectangular time pattern filled up with sinusoidal wave and signals with triangular time pattern filled up with sinusoidal wave. Four fundamental frequencies (550 Hz, 880 Hz, 1580 Hz and 2000 Hz) and two repetition rates (5 Hz and 9 Hz) were tested. The results of the study have shown that the most suitable signals which can be applied at pedestrian crosswalks are the intermittent sounds with rectangular time pattern filled up with rectangular wave of fundamental frequencies 880 Hz and 1580 Hz and repetition rate 5 Hz and the intermittent sounds with rectangular time pattern and triangular time pattern both filled up with sinusoidal wave of fundamental frequencies 1580 Hz and repetition rate 5 Hz.

Opis:
The present study was performed for the period of one year from June 2012 to May 2013 in order to understand the level of toxic heavy metals in the water of Mahim Creek near Mumbai. It was observed that the annual average concentration of heavy metals like Pb, Cd, Cr, Fe, Zn, Cu and Ni and Hg was found to be 0.68, 0.28, 0.15, 0.04, 2.93, 0.64, 1.29 and 0.31 ppm respectively. The average concentrations of Hg and Pb were found to be above the maximum permissible limit of 0.01 ppm and 0.1 ppm respectively set for inland surface water by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) of India. The results suggest that there is a need to have such regular scientific monitoring for longer time period in order to understand the variation in level of these toxic heavy metals discharged in to the creek water. It is feared that the existing problem if ignored may increase the pollution problem of the creek due to the toxic heavy metals resulting in threat to the biological life of an aquatic ecosystem. From the results of the present investigation it seems that the time has come to move towards ecosystem specific discharge standards to maintain the health and productivity of natural resources on which the majority of human population is dependent.

Opis:
Thermal decomposition behavior of bis (4-nitrophenol)-2,4,6-triamino-1,3,5-triazine monohydrate (BNPM) has been studied by means of thermogravimetric analysis at three different heating rates 10, 15 and 20°C min¯¹. Non-isothermal studies of BNPM have revealed that the decomposition occurs in three stages involving dehydration and decomposition. The values of effective activation energy (E_{a}), pre-exponential factor (A) of each stage of thermal decomposition for all heating rates were calculated by model free methods: Arrhenius, Flynn-Wall, Friedman, Kissinger and Kim-Park method. A significant variation of effective activation energy (E_{a}) with conversion (α) indicates that the process is kinetically complex. The linear relationship between the A and E_{a} values was well established (compensation effect). Dehydration stage was governed by the Avrami-Erofeev model (A2) and decomposition stages were governed by the Avrami-Erofeev model (A4).

This paper presents a new model of the multi-channel sound synthesis system. The research objective was to design and construct a sixteen-channel sound control system located in an open area with dimensions of 23.48 m×17.48 m. The main goal of the system operation is to provide, for the controlled acoustic field, the uniformity of the parameters distribution while minimizing the sound pressure level in the protected area. The modeling and simulation researches have been performed using the Finite Element Method (FEM). The results of the analysis include distributions of the sound pressure levels and phase angle for the selected frequencies. The paper presents results of sensitivity studies and optimization for different variants of the sound synthesis system.

The paper is an analytical and experimental study of a smart structure consisting of steel plate with bonded piezoelectric transducers and porous elastomer layer. Active control of sound radiation from a plate clamped at the edge square is examined. Simulations and numerical computation of the experiment are performed in Ansys environment. Calculations of plate vibration and sound radiation under stepped harmonic force are performed. The experimental setup consists of two rooms with the test opening in between. A variety of test cases were studied for three different configurations: steel plate + piezoelectric transducer, steel plate + elastomer layer, steel plate + piezoelectric transducer + elastomer layer. The aim of the paper is to illustrate the possibilities of using piezoelectric materials as an active control with elastomer layers as passive methods in one structure to improve the transmission loss.

Amongst the multiple treatises and documents that a chanoyu history researcher has at their disposal, the Yamanoue Sōji ki (Record of Yamanoue Sōji) holds a special place. First of all, written over the period from 1586 to 1590, it is a document written within the timeframe of the life of Sen no Rikyū (1522–1591) – the very person to whom the accomplished form of wabicha – tea in the style of the “beauty of noble poverty”, is attributed. It is the first tea document written with at least an attempt to record the history of chanoyu. Mostly focused on lists of noteworthy utensils, it is also a tea treatise that in a detailed manner describes the tearooms of Takeno Jōō (1502–1555) and Rikyū, including drawings to illustrate the descriptions. The Record relates the teachings of Murata Shukō (1423–1502), Takeno Jōō and Rikyū. Sōji became Rikyū’s disciple in 1565 and studied with Rikyū for over twenty years, therefore the Record is a source concerning the style and essence of Rikyū’s tea based on first-hand information. The article describes the contents of the Yamanoue Sōji ki and includes a closer analysis of two out of many aspects of the world of tea mentioned: the status of a tea jar among the widely described must-know tea utensils, and Sōji’s categories of tea men. It is the author’s belief, that study of the Record can provide a fresh insight into the nature of tea in Rikyū’s times, and can turn out to be of invaluable help for today’s tea practitioners in finding their approach to the essence of tea.
