Opis:
The purpose of the article is to draw attention to the issue of movies and comic books relationship. Nowadays we can see numerous cinematic versions of graphic novels. Especially what is so called „super hero movies”. Historical development of both movies and comic books was the same. There were several thematic borrow-ings. Also popular culture had significant influence on these media. It is possible among movies and graphic novels to distinguish inspiration, adaptation and screening. Comic book movies are not a new phenomenon. But its character seems a bit morę complicated.

The modern student is privately a player. He/she spends hours sitting at the computer and experiencing many positive feelings such as joy, surprise, curiosity, excitement. Is there anything more exciting than the adventure in a virtual world and at the game? In our presentation we will try to provide an educational game as an interesting opportunity to teach and study early school children and the students – future teachers. Projecting educational games (both board and computer ones) and testing them, can be a wonderful way to develop students’ interests and to learn and study in an interesting way. We will present our projects conducted with the students of the University of Gdansk, of Gdansk Higher School “Athenaeum”, and of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, which may provide inspiration for educational and teaching activities of other teachers and show that science can also be interesting and adventurous.

In this paper, authors present a new approach to the design of a mobile underwater robot inspired by a fish. They describe a prototype of a self-designed and a self-made mobile underwater robot called the CyberFish, which resembles fish in the way it looks and behaves. In the beginning, a short consideration on fish-like swimming is presented. Then the biological inspiration for swimming robots are described by means of comparison of robots parts to fish organs. In the next section authors focus on electronic control system as well as on applications written in C/C++ that are used to control the robot in three different modes.

Opis:
This article attempts to recreate the image of Jadwiga Łuszczewska from the literary works and letters by Cyprian Norwid. The young improviser sparked controversy not only among the critics, but also among the Warsaw socialites in Romantic period. Norwid, however, considered her personality as original, modern and capable of refreshing Polish poetry. In his poems he describes her as “the tenth Muse” and compares her to Sappho, who was called exactly the same name by Plato in recognition of her poetic talent. Moreover, he depicts her in an idealized manner, like a contemporary sibyl who advises the nation on how to proceed in a tragic historical period. Norwid’s enthusiasm waned at the beginning of the 1860s when it became clear that the poetic works by Deotyma were becoming repetitive, constantly revisiting the same motives, ideas and aesthetic means, unable to go beyond the horizon defined at the onset of her career. He realized that behind the female figure he himself ennobled – as comforter, Samaritan, visionary, and statuesque Muse – there is a human being, imperfect and, in some aspects trivial, affected or even philistine.

The strategies have been assigned the following concepts taken from literary (and cultural) studies: quote, allusion, paraphrase, pastiche and translation. The definitions of these concepts are used as tools for interpreting the ways in which Dutch regional costumes are made present by fashion designers in their outfits. The article discusses the role of distance and similarities between the source of inspiration and its interpretation in the contemporary fashion design.

Ever since the first public seat of learning was founded in antique Alexandria – famed for Euclid, Archimedes and Herophilos – inventors and innovators of diverse orientations have banded together at particular places around the globe. Today, the most prominent of them is the San Francisco Bay area. What make creative people cluster in those places? Numerous studies have shown that they are attracted primarily, not by any material benefits, but by the ambience of the place, where creativity has become a way of life, where inspiration is derived from a heterogeneous environment. In conclusion, the author draws up a psychological portrait of the creative class and considers its development prospects.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to focus on the interpretations of some 20th and 21st century artworks inspired by the painting Las Meninas by Diego Velázquez. The analysis is to show the potential of artistic techniques, the inventiveness of the avant-garde and neo-avant-garde artists, and the meaningful re-readings of the original work. The author concludes that imitative artworks lacking a conceptual dimension are only historical references with no significant role in the history of art due to their submission to the influence of the Baroque model. In contrast, significant conceptualisation and creative attitude towards Las Meninas add to intentionally meaningful interpretations, showing the deeper aspects of the masterpiece, and thus becoming autonomous artworks which could be presumably created regardless of the original source of inspiration. The artworks under scrutiny have been selected with regard to their artistic techniques and their interpretative potential which served as a means to define the level of their creative autonomy.

Many retailers have low sales due to the difficulty in the purchase decision of their customers. Previous research shows the lack of studies on the impact of store interiors on purchase decisions. This study aims to find out various visual merchandising factors that affect purchase intentions at XYZ retail stores and focuses on visual merchandising itself, as well as store environment and customer inspiration factors that affect customer behaviour. The non-probability sampling technique with analysing 140 respondents using an online questionnaire with SMART PLS was used to conduct this research. The results show that customer inspirations directly influence customers’ purchase intentions. Visual merchandising and store environment indirectly affect purchase intention as well, mediated by customer inspirations. The customer inspiration variable is in the good category in the XYZ store. It is recommended to use quick response in visual merchandising and develop a store environment virtually that can be connected to a customer’s device.

Opis:
At the turn of the 16th century due to variety of reasons related to the socio-political, educational, and religious situation in Hungary, relatively many natives from the area of today's Slovakia lived and permanently worked in Bohemia and Moravia. These were mostly Protestant scholars, writing and publishing their work in Bohemia. Due to the authors' origin, their works are also considered to be related to Slovakia. This paper illustrates the circumstances of the Slovaks' activity in Bohemia, and selectively presents the inspiration sources (the ancient sources, the Bible, the Renaissance authors) that these scholars used in their work, published largely in Bohemia or intended primarily for the Bohemian market and audience. It also reflects on societal, cultural, religious, and philosophical trends of Humanism.

The Book of Revelation confronts its readers with the problem of violence and irrationality, thereby putting at stake its claim to inspiration and truth. In a canonical and pastoral approach, the document of the Pontifical Biblical Commission explains this unruly book as an expression of Christ’s “burning love”. However, Revelation offers its reader a dramatic counter-world, in which neither love nor logic may be learnt but the coping with passion and “tears”. The visionary strategy (1) gives the Christians insights into their own truth, (2) establishes their very own, “heavenly” perspective, (3) meticulously provides them with theocentric knowledge of the purpose of their everyday struggles, (4) transforms them by a dramatic experience of redemption, and (5) lets them encounter Christ in an experience of longing and trust.

The article gives coverage on the levels of synergetic interaction between architecture and materials science. There are discussed some main benefits and challenges of such kind of synergism. There are separated different levels of synergy. Upon analysis of the industrial and postindustrial age achievements in both of the areas, there can be determined three main levels of synergetic interrelations: inspiration, application, participation. As novel materials and selection tools develop and the area of their possible architectural application increases, the synergistic effects are predicted to strengthen.
Artykuł daje zasięg na poziomie synergicznego współdziałania architektury i inżynierii materiałowej. Omówiono niektóre główne korzyści i problemy związane z takim synergizmem.

The purpose of this article is to present original philosophical concept by Henryk Rzewuski. This nineteenth century Polish thinker was (and still is) extremely controversial person, accused of national “apostasy” for the Tsarist Russia and the spread of beliefs about the irrevocable end of the Polish state. In this text reveals the complexity and ambivalence Rzewuskiego attitude towards the Polish cause. This philosopher believed that indeed the Polish state will not be standing free himself from the Russian political sovereignty. At the same time, however, was an ardent supporter of building the Polish national philosophy, which would illustrate Polishness and develop in the sphere of the ideal and spiritual. Polish history has to be – within its concept – the material from which the philosopher sees that these thoughts and ideas around which crytallized Polish spirit, and that reflect the basic idea of moral. The spirit of the nation and its moral idea meet, according to this philosopher, the functions analogous to that of the soul to the body – is a condition of life and the unity of its geopolitical “body.”

In this paper I am proposing to investigate some possible connecting points between art, aesthetics and the urban experience, more precisely how the perception and experience of the city as well as the features of urban life can inspire artists. At the same time, I am also curious how artworks can be used to understand this urban experience, as well as how they can be interpreted as not only simple descriptions and depictions, but also as active contributions and modes of suggesting solutions to the most pressing issues of contemporary cities and of city life. Hence my primary aim is discussing some approaches towards the aesthetic analyses of urbanity through modern and contemporary examples. In this way I am focusing less on how the city appears as a mere motive in artworks, or how it is used as main object or background element indicating the context in representations; and I am also not aiming to provide a survey analyses of the numerous ideas of the aesthetics of urbanity. Instead of these, here I am concentrating on how urbanity and the experiencing of the city(life) in itself as well as its multifaceted aspects can become a source of inspiration and at the same time a critically analysed subject, i.e. a concept that is examined through the work itself.
