Opis:
Oligocene deposits at Rudawka Rymanowska (Silesian Nappe, Polish Outer Carpathians) contain abundant fish remains. Sandstones and shales, displaying features of low-density turbidity-current deposits, contain isolated fish bones and scales segregated as detrital elements. Fish skeletons occur in laminated Tylawa Limestones (taphonomic Assemblage A), considered to be pelagic in origin, and in laminated claystones (taphonomic Assemblage B), probably also pelagic. Assemblage A contains very well preserved skeletons; Assemblage B contains only 40 to 60% of well preserved skeletons, the rest being partially disintegrated. The very good state of preservation of skeletons in the Tylawa Limestones indicates cessation of decay soon after death. In the claystones, the fish carcasses had arrived at the sea floor in various stages of soft tissue decay, and the carcasses rested on the sea floor for variable lengths of time. Deformations of the vertebral columns in all specimens studied are considered to be natural post-mortem ones. Taphonomic analysis supplements sedimentary data to reconstruct an array of physical/biogenic agents and events that acted intermittently at the Oligocene sea floor in other parts of the Carpathians and of the Caucasus.

Opis:
One of the most intriguing and still rather mysterious water ecosystems are small mid-field ponds. Relatively little attention is devoted to representatives of ichthyofauna inhabiting them. The purpose of this work was the evaluation of the species and quantitative composition of the fish inhabiting several selected mid-field ponds (five), and the analysis of habitat conditions and the possibility of utilising small countryside ponds for angling purposes. Overall, 203 fish belonging to eight species were caught. The highest number was recorded in the pond No. 5 (84 specimens), and the lowest number was recorded in the pond No. 3 (18 specimens), where all the fish belonged to one species - Carassius auratus gibelio. No fish habitation was detected in the pond No. 1. The highest dominance index (Di) was achieved by Perca fluviatilis (33.5%) and Carassius carassius (17.73%), whereas the lowest index belonged to Scardinius erythrophtalmus (2.46%) and Blicca bjoerkna (5.42%). The comparison of constancy index values (Ci) indicates that as many as six fish species out of eight demonstrated high constancy of 60%, whereas two fish species (Blicca bjoerkna and Scardinius erythrophtalmus) reached a low level of constancy amounting to 20%. The studied ponds predominantly featured good or very good conditions for angling. In 2012, the presence of 28 anglers was noted witth regard to the studied ponds, therefore, it can be stipulated that small mid-field ponds contribute to the development of angling in Poland.

Limnological parameter promotes ecological diversity and acts as major key factors of the water body. The portability of water can be determined by planktonic and fish diversity in that water body. Mount Abu (Arbudanchal) is also referred as a place with abode of Gods as it is sated with devotion of all faith. The research site Sant-Sarover Pond has a mythological importance among the localised. In the weather cycle of monsoon (2018), the specific status of limnological characteristic, planktonic diversity and ichthyofauna of Sant-Sarover Pond have been studied through top and bottom water samples. The Limnological parameters of Sant-Sarover Pond showed low mean values including hardness (104.83 mg/l) and TDS (142.0 mg/l)) with optimum alkaline water (pH 7.12), and alkalinity of (98.50 mg/l) Secchi Depth of 80 cm. The average nitrate and sulphate levels were 28.57 mg/l and 122.28 mg/l while average dissolved oxygen levels were at 5.45 mg/l respectively. Based on the results of limnological parameters of water, Sant-Sarover Pond is eutrophic.

Opis:
There is a cascade of hydroelectric power plants built on the Váh River. From a water-management point of view, the natural channel is used to drain extreme discharges. During most of the year, discharges are regulated by water-management structures. These discharges are not used for energy-related purposes; therefore, it is important to determine the optimal discharge that will not negatively affect the ecosystem of the stream. The minimum balance discharge (hydro-ecological discharge) was determined based on the instream flow incremental methodology (IFIM) using the riverine habitat simulation system (RHABSIM). Input data were obtained from direct measurements on three reference reaches in the area between the cities Piešťany and Nové Mesto nad Váhom. Hydraulic flow characteristics were derived from three measurements at different water levels. Habitat quality was represented by ichthyofauna. Data to determine the habitat suit-ability curves of fish were obtained using a diving technique to collect video footage. The modelling resulted in the quantification of the effect of discharge on ichthyofauna as a bio-indicator of habitat quality, which implied the need of 20 m3∙s–1 for a minimum balance discharge in summer.

Opis:
In the Malta Reservoir a total of 16 fish species belonging to six families were recorded in 2008. In the Nordic multi-mesh gillnets 4528 fish belonging to 11 species, with the total weight of 149.5 kg, were caught. The total beach seine catch was 34348.9 kg, which in terms of the reservoir area of 64 ha amounted to biomass density 536.7 kg·ha-¹. Of 11 species caught with the beach seine roach (Rutilus rutilus) was the most abundant species (485031 fish, 7578 individuals·ha-¹) with the highest share in biomass (24283.4 kg, 70.7%). The average electric catch at two sampling sites in the Cybina River running in the reservoir bowl was 105 kg (which gave estimate of 2.6 ton in all), with a marked dominance of the roach, which constituted 65.4% of fish catch in weight and 93% in numbers. Taking under consideration the results of electrofishing the estimated fish density in the Malta Reservoir in 2008 could reach as much as 577.7 kg·ha-¹. The proportion of predatory fish in the fish assemblage biomass was 20.1%.
W Zbiorniku Maltańskim w 2008 r. stwierdzono występowanie 16 gatunków ryb, należących do sześciu rodzin. W wontony nordyckie złowiono 4528 sztuk ryb, należących do 11 gatunków, o łącznej masie 149,5 kg.

Water pollution affects biodiversity harshly. An attempt was made to find out the effect of aquatic pollution on the tissues of the fish, taking two different types of carps from two different areas of West Bengal (Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas and Raiganj in North Dinajpur). The carps used were Labeo rohita (major carp) and Labeo bata (minor carp) and were sampled from two different ponds within 1 km of each locality. The physicochemical parameters of the respective ponds were estimated from which the fishes were collected and comparisons were made. Liver tissues were taken from the fishes for histological and molecular analysis. From histological studies, it was found that there were some irregularities in the liver tissue structures which might be due to water pollution. DNA isolation from fish liver followed by gel electrophoresis was done to check whether water pollution affect the integrity of the extracted genomic DNA of the fish samples.

Urbanization is the cause of many changes which are taking place in the environment, including those found in the catchment. With this in mind, it is an important issue to properly protect water reservoirs and also take action to counter the adverse effects of human activities on the natural environment, including water bodies. To address the increasing degradation of surface waters in the European Union, the approach to the evaluation and protection of water resources was changed. This approach was formulated in the European Union Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC), which calls for the protection of water, as well as an environment-friendly and comprehensive approach to water assessment. Herein, the ecological status of surface waters and groundwater is assessed on the basis of the ecological potential of the biological, physico-chemical and hydromorphological indicators.

Opis:
The monograph presents the results of a long-term research of water ponds biocenosis in the southeastern part of Ukraine. The Department of General Biology and Aquatic Bioresources at Oles Honchar Dnipro National University specialists carried out all the researches. The paper provides a detailed analysis of hydroecological situation in the large and small water bodies, which are used for fishery purposes. It is shown that in the water bodies of different types the total environmental problems are the pollution with organic substances, eutrophication, and anthropogenic pollution with heavy metal salts. Under conditions of increased anthropogenic pressure on water bodies, the biocenoses have gradually degraded. This is manifested in the disappearance of ecologically sensitive species of hydrobionts and the dominance of species with high adaptive abilities. An important problem of current water ecosystems is also the getting and mass distribution of spontaneous fish in fish pools, which actively compete with inhabitat species for the nutrition base and spawning grounds. Separate chapters of the monograph are devoted to physiological and biochemical indicators of industrial fish species, their health status and parasite infestation. In this work the practical recommendations have been given for increasing fish productivity in reservoirs and improving their ecological status at the southeastern Ukraine.
